You have very quickly become my favorite UA-camr. And one of the only channels where I have gone back and watched all past episodes. Keep up the great work
This video length is perfect for your metal refining series, especially for someone (like me) who has no clue what your doing half the time. Now I will watch your videos fully without getting somewhat bored and confused.
Another great video Cody! Thank you for sharing your love of the sciences with the world. My son and I love your work and we wish you good luck with school and finals. Brian
Cody my name is Dave I have no interest in using all the chemicals to extract gold .I would like to find a buyer for my 40 lbs of gold pins .who do you sell to .can you recommend some one that's not going to rip me off. Most of the refineries say just send it in and we will send you a check .it ain't hapnin. Some of them won't even tell youtheir adress. Theirs no adress on their web site I dont mess with them I got alot of time and cash in my collection to just send it in and hope for the best .I have good quality cut offs and fingers. Their is some debris but not much .maybe less than 1% I've pain stakenly seperated and sorted . I've got parts from old computers , new computers everything under the sun .some military 8% old cmp.40% new comp laptops 30% and misalaneous .I e been collecting for 4 years .this is a exalent quality collection.and I expect a good buck .I've taken 3 years of elevtronics and I've done math every day for ever .I know about what this stuff is worth I'm aware it's 10 k plated .and some is solid gold but rare. So if you can point me in the direction of some one ohonist enough to give me a fair price it would be greatly appreciated . A kick back would be on the way to you for your time .thank you Cody. I can be reached at 478 733 8595 mid Georgia. Tanks man
Time is precious, thanks Cody for the information. Sometime in the future you should write a book or video on processes on extracting precious metals. I think it would be very useful and would sell very well. Thanks again buddy.
April 8, 2016 - talks about a 250k subscriber special. July 12, 2016 - Currently has 585k subscribers. Holy shit that is some serious growth in just a couple of months man! Congrats on that. You deserve it, your videos are great.
you do you man, school is very important. your videos are worth the wait. don't rush yourself to get the videos out and make the quality ones you've been making! good luck with school!!!
Hey Cody, I don't know if you'll see this, but thank you for making videos. I'm a student as well and am working on my undergrad in chemistry. I'm about 3/4 done, and school is pretty stressful. Seeing videos like this reminds me why I love science and chemistry. So, thanks for giving me motivation and indirect encouragement! (P.S. My username is from many many years ago, lol.)
Keep up the good work on the videos Cody. Hi my names Archer and I've been a Codyslabaholic for 9 months now. I don't know half of the chemistry you're talking about most of the time but I still watch every video.
I just wanted to say, I love your videos. I think this is the sort of thing everyone should be getting interested in! How materials are gathered and formed, how to make the most out of what we find in the world :D
Silver fuming on glass uses very little silver to achieve a mirror coating; I've worked as a glass blower for almost 12 years, a tiny piece of silver like that is more than I thought you would get back.
I love watching your videos, and I always find everything interesting, but I wish I could actualy remember what all of the compounds and elements are that you talk about and where they come from.
been going back and watching all the bee video's. I got a hive, and its baited for a swarm. I got a nuc reserved for the end of the month, but hopefully I wont need it and will be able to pick up a couple supers instead. Got into my local bee club and going to take my certification test in a couple days. Cant wait to see some of your vids after you pick up the 5 packages. GL this year with the beekeeping. Try to keep those girls compressed and warm during the winter, looks like lots of your losses of over the past few years have been due to cold. Bee's gotta maintain that 95 degrees.
holy shit cody! youve grown so much, this vid has been oout foorrr 50miins now and over 4k views n 600likes!11 so awesome to see this advancemennt keep up the vids, i wwatch everryone:)
Love the video! I had a good laugh, as the cost of the electricity required to tape this video cost more than the value of the extract silver, but what a ride!
You should keep adding to a list of possible experiments for once school is over with, then you can have everything mentally planned out for some awesome videos/series
thanks everyone should understand how amazing chemistry is.and how much we take for granted we wont really understand until we are without somthing we need.
Cody, I had a question. I live near an old thermos plant and there's a huge refuse pile absolutely filled with broken thermos walls. the plant was thermos on Thames if you wanted to research it. my question was could I do this with that trash?
03:28 Where does that explosion sound come from? xD Sounds like one of the explosions you have in the video featured on the front page of your channel.
Hello Cody greetings from Colorado, whats the best way to extract the THC from trim in the leaves of plants, right now they are using butane which is very expensive and not healthy for consumption. We need an alternative solvent that is cheap safe for human consumption.
+superdrizzle7 The point of butane is its it it will outgas at room normal temps. I would think if you let it sit for a bit knowing the boiling point of the solvent, you would get more from a lighter while hitting a pipe then your bubble hash or whatever folks are calling it. I can think of ways using chemicals that are far worse then butane and require far more work, a distillation apparatus and a heating mantle. Super critical CO2 that has it's own acute DIY hazards and is still much more expensive to run, and has even more hazards. I would stick with butane if purity is a concern. It is the safest, and cheapest method, that also requires the least amount of time, and work, and equipment. It does have a fire hazard, and I would not take deep breaths of the stuff. But it is as safe as you make it. But still safer then using say, DMC or DME.
kris reddish Co2 is so cheap and readily available, its about 15x cheaper than butane. Which would be ideal. Even if its more work, having the process cost $10 instead of $150 is a good thing. Butane is also a bitch it requires a heating apparatus is flammable and its expensive. It also requires a vacuum to degas the shatter, wax, bho, full melt, dab thats what they call it here. It depends on the processing temp as to what consistency you get in the end result, like hard candy. Coconut oil would work well for food, but you would never be able to smoke it. Back in the day some people used ice water, but it negatively effects the quality, I guess butane is the way.... for now.
Thinking about fractional distillation. But I worry the heat required may give you a product that has changed. It is a very delicate chemical that quickly changes to to other cannabinoids in the presence of heat and UV light. You can try to build a supercritical extractor, but the pressure seems a bit to risky for me to experment with in my small apartment. Last thing I want is a face full of broken pressure vessal and CO2 undergoing a state change. If you do try it just make sure the device you build or buy is up to the task. It would be a fun build. Just be safe.
I might have the dangers of cyanide wrong but why are you able to move around the charcoal after washing it, is it safe enough to handle without gloves after just rinsing it. as I said I might have it wrong though
Out of curiosity, i have a ton of old electronics laying around. How, where or who should i have reclaim the precious metals from them? Is it expensive to have done?

Love your videos, I always look forward to them, thanks.
Good luck with the rest of your semester, thanks for the fun video.
thanks for the quality content cody, I love your videos.
Spring is near. Your tulips look nice.
Watching these extraction videos of yours I can't even imagine the amount of metal we keep on throwing that is infused with our electronics...
"crud" is my favorite scientific term.
This seems like the easiest process out of all refining videos so far!
love your vids.
good luck with the rest of your semester.
Your my number 1 science dood. Cheers keep then coming.
Do your neighbors ever come over to ask, "why are you filming a jar of broken glass?" or are they pretty used to it by now?

+Ryan Cook so, how does one aquire lidocaine? You know.... For science...
good luck on the rest of the semester!
Someone said my name on the internet! I'm famous! Have fun with the silver!
Stuff like this always catches my interest. I always end up wondering where people get all these chemicals and what not. Not to mention the cyanide.

Absolutly! if you could get literal tonnes of it you might be able to turn a profit.
+Cody'sLab
"litteral ton" = 2000 lbs :)
+Cody'sLab Thanks for the reply! I wasn't looking to make a profit off of it, I was going to say I could send you some of you wanted!

Great video as always Cody, best of luck in your final four weeks in school.

+BillyPilgrim i've been waiting for that too...
Cody's mine part - infinity
This channel's awesome plus I love science!!!
SUBSCRIBED!!!
why can't you just boil off the liquid and then melt the cyanide silver?
+Guy Fawkes
people seem to get nervous when you post videos of boiling a cyanide solution in town.
+Cody'sLab not if you don't tell them that you're boiling cyanide, but they will probably ask you why you are dressed in all that safety equipment.
+Cody'sLab where is the mining video?
+Food 2411 he says at the end, he has school stuff
***** roger that
I love these episodes

+Cody'sLab Dear Cody,
I think getting together with Nile Red and NurdRage would be amazing! don't forget to make another one of your amazing videos when you are with them!
I can not wait for those for weeks to go by.
Cody, I heard if you take two electrodes attached to silver or gold rods, and put them in a jar of water for a few hours you can make some sort of solution (I forgot the name of the process). It's supposed to be very benificial to your health. Is this true?
That's what you call electrolysis. And the only thing you'll get from electrolysing water is Hydrogen and Oxygen sooo no.
Saleh Al Marei It's called a Colloidal solution
am I the only one that noticed he kept saying charcoal when it was activated Carbon? XD
I was confused at first but I would've made the exact same mistake.
Absolutely incredible videos by the way! I've been on a binge watching them from the beginning.
+Ulkreghz Draugr well yeah you are correct. It was just the fact of going from carbon to charcoal that was mixing me up. (in my head that is.)
Good luck with all the school work that is more important and we can wait :)
Cody, do you keep a cyanide antidote kit around when handling the salts?
Given how rapidly it acts, I'm always a tad nervous around the stuff!
+gemdash62
I do actually
Did you weigh the shards of the Dewar flask, and then the glass shards after the silver had been dissolved? So you could know how much silver youo lost in the refining process...
I love your videos :) keep on this good work!
I'm sure you've been busy with the end of school, but really looking forward to more mine videos!
