Good video. I own both watches and I will tell you one huge issue I have that you didn't mention. Samsung Pay. The Galaxy watch actually went backwards. Can't remember the tech term but the S3 has the ability with Samsung Pay to pay by swiping over the magnetic strip of a credit card reader just like the phone. The newer Galaxy Watch does not. It will only work on a cc reader that supports the readers that you tap to pay. So, I used to always use my watch to pay. Now I rarely do.
It's called MST. Galaxy watch only uses NFC. Since you own both watches, do you notice any difference in user experience? Anything the new model has that the old one doesn't? Except for battery life?

Frontier does everything the "Watch" does AND it has Magnetic Strip support. In rural areas of the US where chip is not yet adopted this has proven very helpful.

I have the gear S3 frontier and active watch 2. I had to get active watch 2 because my gear S3 frontier stopped tracking steps and the heart rate monitor stopped working all sensors died on my frontier. Overall I personally like the S3 more. But need working sensors.
With the galaxy watch you loose Samsung pay and the battery doesn't last 4 days, it last 3 at the most and you can get the gear s3 for 150 on the Samsung app store I paid only $100 for mine using my Samsung pay points
I still have my Gear S3...Don't have any issues with it...It does what it needs to do...At the end of my work day I'm usually at around 80 %...I take the watch off and put it on my charger when I get home. When I heard that they dropped the MST from the Galaxy Watch it became unacceptable. I understand that MST is a stop-gap technology and that a smart watch only has so much room for stuff, but this was its unique feature that nothing else had. Also here in the United States they practice the policy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If magnetic credit card readers have worked perfectly well for small mom-and-pop stores in the past, they'll continue to do so and not upgrade to NFC until forced to.
@@dannulik I think people are confusing a card reader machine with NFC terminals. Mfc is not a terminal thing, it's the same chip found on your credit/debit cards that makes it work as if you were sliding your card through the reader. It's like sliding your card, without actually needing to do that. That's mfc. Everyone with a card reader uses that technology. Unless they went full on NFC instead
Nice video! Just a side note on using the Gear on a non-Samsung phone, some apps won't show up at the store, such as Uber (one of the biggest turn downs for me when I bought it), as some of them require another companion app only available for Samsung phones
Samsung pay on my Gear S3 Classic with LTE was one of the reasons why I got it, since I wasn't using a Samsung device at the time. MST makes it easy to use in stores where their point of sale machines don't have NFC. Other than a dead battery (which I may even try to replace if needed), I don't see a reason to upgrade mine.

GEAR S3 Classic - most beautiful Smartwatch
Just testing a 430mah battery for it. 100% - 90% 3 hours so far. I also remade the Chronograph+ on Wear os. Made it pushed me other the edge to get it. I made the tiny dials Battery, heartrate and month. Also made the stopwatch hand into a seconds hand like I always thought it should.
I have the S3 Classic. It's still going strong for me. I won't be upgrading.
Same for me 😁
I even bought a spare battery for later.
I have 2 and a half years and it lasts a little more than 2 days.
Very good review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I agree. The Gear S3 is a better choice.
Had the S3 for a couple of years now. Currently have a black silicone case, glass protector and apple style watch band, still a great watch. I get 2 to 3 days usage
The real struggle is the 46mm diameter.. I need a 42 but I can't find any smartwatch that's like the s3😩
You get used to it fairly quickly
@@kirkdyer89 I tried in a store personally but it's too big, I can't get use to it.. I replace it with the Galaxy watch 42mm
Great video dude! You just said everything. Didn't had to search for 1h for information. Ty !
Thanks for watching Rui!
have been using it for past 3 years battery sucks since new UI( holds for 24h sometimes less) wish I can charge it through the phone but it doest work. other than that its a solid watch and you can buy some nice straps on ebay
I'm very pleased that I found this comparison because I'm going to buy one of them tomorrow and as you probably quessed I have not decided yet ;) The only thing that stops me for buying Frontier is battery ..
I really love this watch!
Agreed!
Me 2 I just got mine along with galaxy Z Fold 2
I have subscribed, watched a couple of your videos and they are really well put together, you stick out from the crowd of those copycats, you have original material, thanks.
Thank you Dr G!
December 2020 N still it runs so smoothly 💙
Frontier does everything the "Watch" does AND it has Magnetic Strip support. In rural areas of the US where chip is not yet adopted this has proven very helpful.
the newest software update on the s3 frontier really revitalized it
It's definitely a great refresh
Would be nice to have option to downgrade also.
Excellent video.. as always
Thank you!
Pls make a review on one ui.
S3-Frontier❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
I just bought it by your review LOVED IT
Glad you love it!
How's your experience so far
Sept.2021
I found my Gear S3 Frontier off Amazon Refurbished for $100!! Looks brand-new, performance is like new & 2.5 days battery life! 🤘 It's extremely comfortable to wear also. I even got 1 update & a couple of security patches in 2021!
I have the gear S3 frontier and active watch 2. I had to get active watch 2 because my gear S3 frontier stopped tracking steps and the heart rate monitor stopped working all sensors died on my frontier. Overall I personally like the S3 more. But need working sensors.
Loved your review man! Also note9 squad! I have the same phone and color lol. Keep up the work dude!
Thanks for watching!
Shane Symonds bro do you recommend me to buy the note 9
With the galaxy watch you loose Samsung pay and the battery doesn't last 4 days, it last 3 at the most and you can get the gear s3 for 150 on the Samsung app store
I paid only $100 for mine using my Samsung pay points
Gear S3 for good dollar to value, galaxy watch for the best
From my usage i get ~4-5 days average with the Galaxy watch. Depends fully on how much you use it.
Wait, the Gear S3 has Samsung Pay, but the Galaxy Watch not? Really?!
I dont see that price for the s3 on the samsung store. I got the galaxy watch for 240 at costco but id get the s3 if it was 150
@@MartinPaoloni The galaxy watch doesn't support MST, the gear s3 does
Awesome 👍 thanks for the good insight..
Galaxy Watch. Love it so much! long battery life. normal usage up to 2 days plus
I still have my Gear S3...Don't have any issues with it...It does what it needs to do...At the end of my work day I'm usually at around 80 %...I take the watch off and put it on my charger when I get home. There are no HUGE leaps in tech with the Galaxy watch...It just has longer battery life. With the recent One UI update...Samsung has put the G S3 right up there with the Galaxy watch. I just don't see any reason to upgrade at this point in time. 😉
Do u recommend still buying the S3 frontier, or should I get the Galaxy Watch?
@@oliver720
I would get the Gear S3 if you're on a budget...If you really need a smart watch that lasts for a few days without having to recharge it, and can afford to pay more money...Get the Galaxy Watch. Since I have had the Gear S3 when it first was first released, and the battery lasts me through a whole day, there's just no reason for me to upgrade right now. 😉
@@E_Stew alrigt. Yeah it would be my first smartwatch, do I don't want to pay more than 200€ if I don't have to. So I guess I'll get the S3. Thanks mate ;)
It's that in most of developed world doesn't use MST anymore.
Fir you’re battery is draining fast, reset the watch, worked for me
I use gear sport and Galaxy S4 just because
Edit: My Galaxy S4 died Today. R.I.P my old freind
Rip indeed, S4 was my first phone I've ever gotten. Was such a great phone during that time as well.
I've gear s3 frontier about 2 years ago & I still surprised.. it is powerful and life living..
Very pleased with the S3! Doesn't feel dated at all (minus the battery life)
I just like my gear s3
I've had the Gear S2 the past 2 years and loved it, just ordered the S3 Frontier and I am so excited!
I am not fond of tracking my fitness, but want a smart watch, so i dont need the galaxy watch for that extra tracking exercises and small updates,
Nice video! Just a side note on using the Gear on a non-Samsung phone, some apps won't show up at the store, such as Uber (one of the biggest turn downs for me when I bought it), as some of them require another companion app only available for Samsung phones
Galaxy Watch doesn't support MST payments
Galaxy Watch is useless
Samsung pay on my Gear S3 Classic with LTE was one of the reasons why I got it, since I wasn't using a Samsung device at the time. MST makes it easy to use in stores where their point of sale machines don't have NFC. Other than a dead battery (which I may even try to replace if needed), I don't see a reason to upgrade mine.
What upgrade did you use?
R760XXU2CRK2 wants to install on my Gear S3 Frontier. I'm holding off due to so many reported battery eating issues. Have you experienced any issues?
I'm still happy with mine in 2020.
I'm fine with watch as long as it help me to cheat in exam
I have the watch 6 classic now, but this was my dream smartwatch couple of years ago. I was still at school back then so I couldn't afford things and such. Still a good looking smartwatch in 2024 tho.
