I almost did this job last year for my Tundra, but I noticed that one of the clamps wasn’t holding the grease in so I just replaced the clamp with another and so far no more grease is coming out so I think I’m good for now. 👍
@MrCalifornia1234 I think Vincent could have gotten away with a clamp replacement, too, but then we wouldn't have this video.
Thank you for the video Timmy! I recently did this job myself on my 200 series and found it interesting to watch how you tackled it. I really appreciated your using the pry bar technique on the lip of the inner half of the CV to drive it back into the differential - I had a lot of trouble with this. I managed to keep my UCA, speed/ABS sensors and rotor housing bolted together by manipulating the CV back and rotor housing forward and up to free the outer spline of the CV from the rotor housing. I was then able to tie all of that housing up somewhere high in the wheel arch - maybe this saved me some time? Although I'm not sure if there any specific differences between the Lx470 and the 200 series. I really enjoyed watching this video and seeing how you did this job - it was extremely helpful and will use your techniques in the future. Especially your German torque spec of 'gud 'n' tight' ;) Many thanks! Sam. Sydney, Australia.
@SamueLordcrumpet When we were doing the job, it seemed necessary to us to remove the whole hub and knuckle assembly off the vehicle to get the CV axle out. We tried to completely free the lower balljoint from the steering knuckle without disconnecting the upper ball joint like I've done with other models, but even at full droop, I couldn't free the ball joint stud of the steering knuckle. The Factory Servixe Manual did instruct us to remove the whole hub and knuckle assembly, so we finally did just that instead of messing around trying to keep it connected to the vehicle.
I'm glad you learned something from the video. Thanks for commenting.
@@TimmyTheToolman Well I think it was a wonderful job done and great learning for me! Thank you again. Sam.
@@SamueLordcrumpet Thanks Samuel and you're very welcome.
Great video man, thanks! This helped me with the reboot process.
I followed your video and used the brown grease for the outer joint and the black grease for the inner joint. Several folks on the forums say it should be opposite though and now I'm wondering who is right? Haha hopefully it doesn't make much of a difference either way but I'm curious what your thoughts are on it. Thanks!
@andrefraslin4477 We're glad you liked the video. We found conflicting information with the grease, too. Using common sense, though, the outer joint boot is bigger than the inner joint, and there is more brown grease than black grease, so it would make sense the brown grease goes with the outer joint and black grease with the inner joint. One other thing that led us to believe we were right is the CVJ aftermarket boot kit came with its own grease packs that we didn't need, and that grease was black and the same consistency of the Toyota black grease. So, I'm fairly certain we got it right.
But, let me throw more confusion into this. I've used the brown grease for the inner joint and the black for the outer for 3rd Gen Toyota 4runner axles, but the boots on those axles seemed the same size if I'm remembering correctly and the volume of grease for each color was the same as well. The information we had at the time specified brown grease for the inner and black for the outer. And, this information most likely came from a Toyota forum, so who knows if that information I got years ago was correct. The thing that sucks about the reboot kits from Toyota is that they don't specify what grease goes where.
So, like I said, I'm pretty sure we got it right, but there's no way for me to 100% know we did. And, something else tells me it doesn't really matter. As long as the joints are lubricated with grease, they will last.
@TimmyTheToolman Thanks for the reply! I also thought about boot size and that the amount of grease provided should correlate with the size of the boot. I think you got it right as well! Your content is appreciated, take care!

The dealership sells that boot kit for $58 vice $114....? Is there a difference?
Where are you getting $114 from? The reboot kit we link in the video description sells for $85 on Ebay. We provide part numbers so people have the opportunity to do their own parts search and buy from their preferred seller. Also, here's a suggestion, read your comment before hitting send. You said "Board Kit" which doesn't make sense, but I assumed you meant to say "Boot Kit".
@TimmyTheToolman cool man, that link charges $30 in shipping, so maybe...I dunno read that...? I'm not arguing with you dude I was just thinking there was a difference in the ebay link YOU chose to use. Perhaps it was more complete or something. Thanks.
@@BigBluePile I didn't think you were arguing with me. I'm just trying to understand your comment. I looked at the Ebay link and it says shipping is free, so I don't get where you're seeing $30 for shipping,.
@@TimmyTheToolman when I click your link it shows the shipping cost. If I copy the item number into my ebay app it shows free shipping. That's bonkers.
@BigBluePile Weird.
