    You said the words mechanical advantage when securing fasteners. In this case you chose a smaller ratchet having less mechanical advantage. Good definition for fastening

      @georgecranston4351 Thanks. It's something everyone turning wrenches should understand. The longer the lever, the more mechanical advantage it offers.

    I have definitely watched a ton of your videos and a few directly apply to the few things I’ve fixed on my tundra. I was more thinking of how to grow your channel. You could put out a lottery for subscribers/patreons who have other Toyotas who need maintenance and build content that way. I also have a 15 highlander but the only thing I’ve done is fluid changes and brakes so far. Damn thing just keeps going.

      You and I are on the same wave length but I'm a few years ahead of you on this thought process. Around 5 years ago, after making a ton of content for 3rd Gen 4runners, I knew we had to move to different generations and models to keep growing as a channel. We have worked on the following:
      Early Toyota Pickups
      1st Gen 4runners
      2nd Gen 4runners
      4th Gen 4runners
      5th Gen 4runners
      1st Gen Tacomas
      1st Gen Sequoias
      1st Gen Tundras
      2nd Gen Tundras
      FJ Cruisers
      FJ80 Land Cruisers
      100 Series Land Cruiser
      Lexus LX470s
      Lexus GX470s
      So Bro, I totally appreciate you thinking about our growth. I really do! However, I'm been trying to grow our audience for quite some time, and maybe it is working because of the sheer fact we're still gaining subscribers and not going backwards.
      I'm game to work on any Toyota/Lexus SUV or Truck. Like I said, it depends on who I meet that's interesting in turning wrenches with me and going through the pains of filming for the content I can create for our audience. Right now, my buddy Vincent has lots of content for 100 Series Land Cruisers and LX470s we can film. My business partner Sean mainly concentrates on working on 3rd Gen 4runners, which is fine. Content is content. I've invited loads of total strangers over my house to work on their vehicles to get a large percentage of the content we have created.
      So, trust me Bro. I've been trying for years to grow our channel. The problem with our content is it's very practical. Nobody is tuning in just to kill some time and be entertained. If someone wants to actually complete a job on their rig, they come to us because they know they''ll be successful following one of our video tutorials. If they want general knowledge about Toyotas or click bait videos, they go to other channels for that.

    Nice Tim! Not a LC owner but have used many of your vids for my 4R. Another guy I follow (The Car Care Nut) does a nice video replacing the steering knuckle on an 80 series LC. He has a nice trick for removing the inner bearing and seal without any tools. Checkout "This is a Messy Job! 80 Series Land Cruiser Knuckle Rebuild" at timestamp 13:10. Maybe something you or others could use for this job!

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Місяць тому +2

      I know the technique you're referring to. I was curious if the amazing Car Care Nut guy had anything to add to the knuckle rebuild I filmed on my 85 4runner over 5 years ago and that trick was one thing I noted. Pretty cool trick. I have to admit, I'm pretty f@cking jealous the views his channel gets. We do just as hard of jobs, even harder than he's willing to document, like transmission replacements and engine replacements that are super detailed, but we struggle to gain subscribers to our channel and views for our videos. Oh well, it is what it is. I know what we provide for the Toyota/Lexus SUV & Truck DIY Mechanic Community. The Car Care Nut might be kicking our ass in subscriber and view numbers, but I honestly think we put out better videos for the DIY Mechanic to be able to successfully complete jobs on their rigs. Not many channels match the detail we offer in our videos.
      I guess jealously does me no good, but it's hard not to be when I know the quality we put out for people doesn't show in our subscriber and view numbers.
      Here's my version of the Car Care Nut's Knuckle Rebuild video. It's two parts. This is Part 1. ua-cam.com/video/_JBRqOH6Am4/v-deo.htmlsi=XmyrLfHjHW9VA2Rg

      @@TimmyTheToolman I’ve always felt your channel is more geared to the skills and knowledge of doing the jobs, whereas his seems to be more industry commentary. Regardless of the purpose, I find both valuable and when I need to do some work on my 4Runner the first place I go to is your channel. My brother recently bought an old Tundra and I’ve sent him your way already! Love what you do Tim and wish you continued success!

      We're doing that as best we can. Our content is dependent on who contacts us for help. If you analyze our channel content, we have done videos for lots of different model Toyota/Lexus SUVs and Trucks, a lot more than you probably think. Do a search for "Tundra" on our channel and see what you come up with. Some videos we make, even though performed on one model, relate to different models as well. For example, anything related to the 2UZ-FE engine crosses over to multiple models.
      For your wheel bearings, I'm pretty sure you have the same steering knuckles as 3rd Gen 4runners and 1st Gen Tacomas, and thus, same wheel bearings. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/Dj-2IzO9RFk/v-deo.htmlsi=RTwDMUboN5U6HEqU At the time we shot the video, I didn't know early 1st Gen Tundras had the same steering knuckle.

    I have a couple of ideas for you and some of them may just be related to click bait that unfortunately sometimes does work. I know the car care nut exponentially grew his channel after he bought that beat up old Lexus and restored it. I’m sure that would produce some views if you had some older truck and restored it in a series of videos.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Місяць тому +3

      The Car Care Nut has a plethora of click-bait video thumbnails and video titles. The only video we did a click-bait title for was the video we made about my retirement from the fire service - "Timmy is Retiring."
      Sean and I did toss around the idea of restoring an older Toyota truck of SUV, but I honestly don't think it would have moved the needle much. We have put out incredible content that almost nobody else will do to the level we have done. The documentation of the engine swaps we've done has not been matched or surpassed by anyone. The same goes for our transmission swaps, R150 transmission rebuild video, 80 Series transfer case rebuild video, and the differential rebuild videos we filmed at East Coast Gear Supply. We have offered content nobody else does to the level we do, and still, we don't attract that many subscribers. The only thing I can think is the reason is our content is just too damn practical. There's not much about what we do that qualifies as general automotive knowledge. If a person has a need and we have a video for that need, then the person watches it and probably doesn't subscribe to our channel. Around 85% of our views are from people not subscribed to our channel.
      At the end of the day, I'm proud of what we offer. We have saved people millions of dollars with our videos and we have educated people in auto mechanics that can be passed onto others.

      It might be low on refrigerant but it could be another issue. I would start by recharging the system and see what that gets you. We have a video for that. ua-cam.com/video/zlRE0Zeeyrc/v-deo.htmlsi=-rR8f-0oEuRDoFVx
