I came to USA in 1994 with the intent to stay here for 5 years and go back for sure. Once you get married , have children and children start to goto school, it’s impossible to go back during working years. Children have no emotional connection with India.
Just like if you tell an Indian child , he belongs to Tanzania and that’s where he needs to go.
So, after retirement returning for few years till health permits is a possibility with eventual return back to USA. almost always USA visit for anyone is a one way migration.
Basic things like quality of air you breathe, easy access to clean water , access to nice roads with no potholes ( in last mile ) are absent in India. And these won’t change if you have billions of $s of money ., you still breathe same air. Need to traverse in same roads.

If you hv own house in India & it’s better to settle in India. If the kids r small, we can migrate. If they start growing, difficult for them to accept.

Now a days in India alots of changes once your kids strted to go school and they adapt in USA means it’s hard to change and you going to put them in risk ur kids are little so you can move and more over we can bring our parents offen and spend time with them in USA initially ppl or relatives welcome you a lot then they strtd to get money all kind of dramas just there thought we get money from heaven countless it’s hard for us to survive. I still remember my abroad relatives bring chocolates that too they give to special persons 20years now I’m in USA but my relatives expecting too much branded bags, cosmetics and apple stuff I did that too for many years.. so dnt think right now suituation ppl will change a lot

You will never go back to India to settle there permanently. Millions of people who come to the US all come with the same mindset- to earn good money and then go back and settle in India, me and my husband included. But it never works out that way. Once the kids start going to school and gets used to living here, they will not like going back and studying in India. And once the kids live and grow up here, parents have to choose to be here whether they like it or not. People who have lived very luxurious lives in India, have a big family business and make tons of money are the ones who go back to India-provided their kids are too young to object. Life here should be tougher here than in India by many different factors, for anyone to go back and settle in India. Welcome to every NRI's club who all go through this.

One of my relative who was working in U S A., consoled his family members (Wife and 2 girl child ), left his service there,, settled all his establishments and returned back to India. Of course, his elder girl child is having some problems in adjusting with her school mates, some how making herself to local conditions. The people who are going to U S A are first creating some liabilities and had to work for clearing this debt. In due course, they are bound to local conditions, and started to buy a house, second car, and so many things for which they are forced to continue in work. In the mean time the children grew up and adjusting to local environment, are not ready to leave U S A., This is prevalent in the present scenario.

7:22 Am surprised that no one even talks about needing to come back to India to take care of parents. I am seeing a lot of comments about comfortable life in USA but nobody talks about parents unsaid needs. They would tell you in front of your face that they don't need help , but they struggle everytime they go to hospitals in India with no children to understand the doctors advice.

  • @sreuben2006

The reason you have this mindset is because we are stil connected to india in every way. (Food, news, events, movies etc.,) Ppl who came in early 80s and 90s had few connection and hence they continued here and made a firm desire to stay here. The more we connect the more we feel that way. Nothing wrong in it.

Surprising to see. No subscribers have identified you in India so far except for that one. Too good to be true ;)) Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts.. we are always thinking of going back. As you said, Prem, I am tired of IT and quit IT in the US itself, finished my PhD, and am working in a Top 10 public university now. But something is still missing!! After listening to you both talk... I was self-reflecting on why we are in the US. I don't think it was comfort or money... Definitely for kids' primary education, but I think the main reason is peer pressure from Relatives. Good to know that Indian IT job pay is competitive. Everything will be good when we are young. But will it sustain after 45 or 50 years old candidate.. Pyramid shrinks as our job band grows. As for as I know it’s not easy unless you are exceptional doing good. But in USA I see people working in technical role until 70. What’s your opinion ?

U may have less experience about schools. . . If kids study till 5th grade they will like to stay in the USA. They will start expressing what they want. For now they will listen to you blindly as a kid.
She was expressing her temporary happiness. Get a ration card, will need a car for around 10lc, school fee around 1lc per kid per yr. avg 10k for petrol during each trip to Chennai or any + accommodations if no relatives, jewelry charge min 60k, family function gifts, house renovation, buying land if u got money. . .
Initially I was able to enjoy them for a year by transferring dollars then struggled in 2nd yr then moved to the USA
Relatives will be welcoming initially then they got work to do, we may not see them often. U may feel bored.

I am also from Mayiladuthurai. I want to say one thing, before leaving U S A, please consider the freedom you are enjoying in
U S A after your office hours, availing full rest during week ends, congestion in indian roads, absurd drivers in India, education and discipline for children in U S A., etc., Of course, in India, you can get good medical facilities which of course exorbitant in cost, decent textiles, and costumes, public transportation facilities, cheaper vegetables, and good investment avenues. When you are gaining one thing in one place, you have to lose some other benefits in the other end. I also used to visit Portland very often, and compromising myself with what i will get there.

I think we should be in US to claim the benefit. If you are an US citizen you can claim from foreign countries. But for non immigrants we should visit once in 6 months to field office to continue the benefit. It's helpful in case kids settle in US and at old age we can come and enjoy the benefit. But from India it's tough to get the benefit continuously after first 6 months..

When I first came to US in 2004, we used to rent VCDs and Video Cassettes. In Edison, NJ Telugu, Tamil and Hindi guys used make Home videos using handy cams and rent it out for $.50 cents. Some of them had interesting story. In one story, the movie starts like, a Telugu old man will be sitting in a park, behind him two Telugu guys will be walking and saying “just 2 years raa… I will go back… who can live in this country…” the old man will laugh on hearing it and flashback opens… he will be saying the same words while walking in the same park… its 20 years passed, now I’m becoming that old man 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 but from U.K. instead “Who will stay in this country raa… will go back in another 2 years….”😂😂😂😂😂

I like your videos and mostly informative. But this video seems your are confused and went to India without doing any ground work. Most of the people return from India mainly due to finance and environment problem. I wondered how you went to India with just 60 lac in hand and planning to start business. Not sure how u plan to stay India with house/mortgage loan still on US because even for 6 months emi without US income, it is a nightmare. You said that you still have plan to back to India when ur kid goes to 5 th grade, if so you have to prepare your kids emotionally now itself. Also if you plan to go back in 5 years, you have to invest there wisely and make sure you have some passive income like rental houses, etc, so that you are totally not depend on salary and work area politics. Also many people will return as kids dont like the environment there including class rooms(No offence, my kids faced these issues). It will take time for them to accept it too. Also main thing is people must be really careful on taking decision moving back to India, bcs transferring money from US to India is very easy, but bringing back the money from US to India is complicated and may loose the earning in taxes like capital gain, TDS, decreasing Currency value and GST on bringing money from India. Talk to you auditors regarding this. Above all is just my experience. Again No offence.

Opportunities are Unlimited. here a re a few that are potentially TAX FREE.
      1. Buy a Lawn mower and mow the lawns. You will make $40-50 min. Dont seek Desi customers. They will low ball you and say $10 and it is Rupees 835 lot of money etc. or settle with you for "Roti and Sabzee to go" for your work.
      2. If you know Priest hood or know how to conduct Poojas it is one of the Best. You can do Ganesh pooja, new home pooja, new car pooja, and other general purpose pooja called "Prosperity pooja etc. The min rate for any Pooja service at home is $200 and up with free meals. If you are not familiar and have a flair for it do a crash course on priest services and become one. Be sure to wear a scared thread. If you have a half shaved head and beard your value will be higher.
      3. If you are good cook, can visit Desi homes and cook for an hour and leave or cook in your home and meal pick up.
      4. Become an sfter school baby sitter and kid drop and pick up services from school to your home. Good money. If you cn help with the kid's home work after school thats even better. One stop service.
Oppoortunities are PLENTY..... GO AFTER IT.
