Just found you today while searching for coloring tutorials. Your voice is soothing, explanations are clear and gave this ol' anxiety ridden brain something more to think about as I'm learning to color!
WOW..love It!!! I am very new to all this and I keep watching videos, but scared to really get my feet wet with my supplies. Nothing like buying books and pencils and not using them. Your videos are a lot of motivation....m a y b e...I will sign up for the Skillshare.....lol...that would probably do the trick. Anyway. Thank you for sharing your talent and creative genius with me. I will be watching more and hopefully pick up my pencils and color.
My only complaint with your tutorials is that you don't do enough of them. I'm so impressed with what you impart in such short time. So many colourists take up to two hours to get the same message across. Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing many more. Oh, the Hanna Karlzon books are excellent and I'd love to see your take on those 😀
For a real challenge, try the Disney Dreams Collection by Thomas Kincade. You really get to use all the lessons about shading and highlightings with complementary colors that you learn about in the Skill share classes on colored pencil art.
THANKS.. Your honesty.. I haven't been coloring.. yet, after watching and listening..I'm getting excited to get back into it..And watch your videos more!!
I was loving the picture in the beginning but then you started adding all those little details & just made it a beautiful piece of artwork! Thank you for explaining what you were thinking & what you thought would make it better!
LOVE all of the techniques you applied. The changes were subtle but created a gorgeous somewhat realistic approach that really amped up the coloring. Beautiful work!
Hi Rachel , I would love for you to do a tutorial in one of Tomislav Tomic books . Villan San or Dromenvanger . I fell in LOVE with his line art , beautiful but now I want to gain confidence to color in it . Lots of intricate detail and double spreads . Kind of like when you said How do eat an elephant, one bite at a time . ❤️
I think I might be able to start adding texture now! The Mouse Guard Coloring Book is great fun, the paper is high quality, the illustrations are, of course, wonderful - you can't go wrong.
I'm so glad you are feeling better! Gotta take care of yourself. You did an amazing job adding dimension to that page! As always... I love your channel, your work, and your lessons. And of course can't wait for next week's video.
I am absolutely excited about your approach here. Now that I think I have mastered shading....I will start learning to add texture. You sure make it look easy
I love the Coloring Heaven magazines. I can find them usually at Barnes and Noble. The new Hanna Lynn one should be showing up soon. Colored pencils work well in these magazines. I have been wanting to color fairies. I have a few on my wish list. I am thinking the first I will order is Fairies in Dreamland.
Glad you're feeling better. I enjoy your videos immensely! This picture is gorgeous and I agree that putting the extra touches make the picture more realistic! I recently got The Magical City by Lizzie Mary Cullen. The book is whimsical and is out of my comfort zone for sure.
Really appreciated the video, it's helpful and to-the point. For coloring books -- while I enjoy my books by Johanna Basford, Daria Song, Kinuko Craft and Hannah Karlzon, for a change of pace (or page), I picked up Beauty of Horror by Alan Robert.
Coloring books I wish you would get and color in, in a color along, or a tutorial, or anything: “Blue Willow - A Coloring Book Story” by Patty Vadalia. And “Rainforest Escape” by Jade Gideon.
This turned out so pretty! I've really been enjoying hannah Lynn books, and Chinese coloring books I order from aliexpress. Also Fabiana Attanasio is one of my fav illustrators. Happy coloring.
Great job! I need to get the 3rd book. One thing I would have liked to see is a side by side before and after to really see how much difference it really made.
Another great tutorial, Rachel, thank you. I am really loving Colorit coloring books. I started with Dogs and liked it so much I also got myself Colors of Nature and Mythical and Fantasy. I love the images and the paper is nice too. I also love the top-bound spiral, left hand friendly and no spine. Enjoy :)
In regards to a different colouring book a beautiful one is : Colouring Heaven Collection: Flora & Fauna. ( not sure if you have used this one before). Glad to see you back I look so forward to your videos you have such a wonderful calming voice & take time to explain everything. Keep up the great work!!! 💐
Loved the final outcome. I am working on Hanna Lynn and Heather Valentin books they fun and whimsical, Maria Trolle is on my wish list love her illustrations. Glad you're feeling better take care.
i love your chanel I have learned so much from you no matter how I try my work is very flat can you help I have watched your skills tutorials a number of times but am not there yet thank you so much for all you've taught me please keep the tutorials coming
I really enjoyed this video! I've also been in a rut for creativity and as well just not feeling well like today especially! I really am glad you did this video today! Best regards, Christina.
Beautiful and inspiring! I too have been feeling a little flat with my colouring. I recently bought two books by German artist Rita Berman that I love and would love to see you colour. Her books are available on Book Depository. Also anything by Hanna Karlzon.
Hi Rachel! First, I'd like to thank you for your tutorials. Since I'm new at coloring, I'm finding that they are so valuable in my learning process. It's amazing what can be done with a pencil! About one month in, I discovered Edward Gorey and treated myself to a coloring book featuring his drawings. He had a unique sense of humor and it shows in his work. I'd like to recommend it to you and if you'd like to see it first, there are a few flip throughs right here on youtube. Something different! Again, thank you! I'm looking forward to learning from ALL your work! Mary Louise Good
I love your videos , they are informative , entertaining, and all out enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your talent , knowledge , and time with me and everyone else
Hi Rachel, I loved your ideas. Stone walls are just an invitation to improvisation, aren't they? I always have a tendency to leave my shadows to the last minute and then I find my paper has run out of tooth and end up using felt tip pens to make it darker. As far as recommendations go, I have just ordered myself a copy of Olivia Whitworth's Dreamweaver Colouring Book, it looks like it will be fun!
Hi Rachel! I have been a subscriber for a long time. If you are looking for other awesome coloring books, I suggest the following artists: Rita Berman, Grazia Salvo, Nicholas Chandrawienata, Sabine Design, Klara Markova, Maria Trolle, Emmanuelle Colin, Bennett Klein, Hanna Karlzon, Denyse Klette, Peggy Jo Ackley, Leila Duly, Aeppol, Zan Von Zed, Tanya Bogema (Stolova), Kanoko Egusa, Jane F. Hankins, Daria Song, Annie Stegg Gerard, Tomislav Tomic, Mariola Budek, Gugeli, and Dea Lenihan.
I loved this. You have such a relaxing voice :) the new Hanna Karlzon book ‘Spirit Animals’ has just come out and its amazing! Also you should check out Chaki Ida - her style is very similar to Eriy from Romantic Country so you’d love her. Chaki’s books (My Colorful Town, My Dream Room) are a little tricky to get and a tad expensive but well worth it.
Awesome video Rachel! My favorite books are by Johanna Basford; her new one is World of Flowers. I also like Maria Trolle and Rita Berman. Thanks so much for your videos; I always learn so much.
Hi Rachel! This turned out lovely! As with regards to colouring books, maybe you would consider taking a look into Sagolikt by Emelie Lidehall Oberg. It is such a fun and cute book. I am also currently into Hannah Lynn mode as well =)
I’ve hit a wall with coloring for awhile now. I look through my books, look online for something that speaks to me and I can’t seem to find it. The Romantic Country? the book you are coloring in is speaking to me, so I think I’m gonna order it and give it a whirl 😎 Your picture turned out very nice.
Rachel. First of all, you succeeded; it’s wonderful. What colors did you use in the beginning on the wall and the buildings before you went to town on them? I’m stumped.
Great work! What kind of pencil sharpener do you use? Manual or electric? What brand? I would love to see you tackle “Floating World-Japanese Prints.” I just got it and can’t wait to get started.
I recommend "Everything's Shiny" Serenity Firefly class adult coloring book by Dark Horse publishing, it has multiple ilistrators . And anything by Kerby Rosanes i do like Tribal Animals by ArtZone too. If you're still looking! Have a great day!
I really enjoyed this video.. coloring suggestions are The Ink House by Rory Dobner, or maybe one of the Coloring Heaven magazines from the UK (via Anthem Publishing)...
Wow, it really turned into a French Grey kind of day. Love the lines on the buildings. That made a world of difference. For scenic moods I’m drawn to Johanna Basford (Ivy and the Inky Butterfly or Lost Ocean). For whimsical times, Misfits by WhiteStag. For realism and portraiture I’ve been rotating between Circle Portraits by Laura Rafferty and Mysteria by Anastasia Elly Koldareva.
I really like your channel. But... I would love to see you do something bright and BOLD. Your style is very safe, muted. Kick it up a notch girl! Show us what those pencils can really do!
Ah...realism....I guess I didn't realize that area was one that you struggle with. For me, personally, I struggle with "doodles" or other things that don't really exist, for that very reason....they are NOT real and so I struggle with knowing what to do with them. So, for that reason you will never see any of the "Morphobia" (spelling) type coloring books in my stash. I would be completely loss on what to do with them. My best coloring is when flowers and leaves are involved, especially if they are real because then I have at least a basis on what to do with them. By the way, Rachel this turned out looking great!
I love all the added textures, but its not a place I would want to live, you haven’t done anything more colorful, brighter, all your pages are the same. every video I think 💭 is this the one time she is going to bring out the color 💭 please more layers, and more color!
I also kept waiting for more color and vibrancy. The houses were brick and could have had reds in them. The shutters in that village would be painted instead of left bare wood. There was no shadow in the arch, and there wasnt enough rounding of the corners in the blocks of stone in the wall to give it more of a worn and aged look. The moss was a good idea, but there could also have been cracks for texture and realism. The winding trail needed to be darker and more small stones to provide the correct perspective.
Gail Williams absolutely, we just have to keep after her, lol, if we nag her long enough maybe she will get the nerve, even if it’s one color at a time.
Hi Rachel, I have been a subscriber for a long time and really enjoy your videos. My recommendation for a new book would be Fantastic Zoo by Kameichidou which you can by on Amazon. It has lovely illustrations that are fairly quick to do and so enjoyable. I have a flip through on my channel of it if you are interested. Hope this helps! Imogen :)
Have you heard of the Wildergorn giant posters? I have one and just bought another five (get one free if you buy five in one purchase) as I'm going to have a lot of free time on my hands. These posters are truly exceptional. Look up Wildergorn.com and check out the gallery. I'm new to your channel and picking up some tips & techniques. Your videos are a big help and an inspiration to me!
You added the gift of charm my dear :)
I love the changes you made!

Love what you added to the wall with the grey and green.
Wow! What a fantastic recovery. The little details in the brickwork, the sky and shadows propelled the bland look to something magnificent!
Excellent tutorial! I especially love the adding of the bricks!
Wowza! You brought this art to another level. Thanks for sharing
I really enjoy most of the coloring cafe books. Al so the Dreamliner books are very cute
LOVE all of the techniques you applied. The changes were subtle but created a gorgeous somewhat realistic approach that really amped up the coloring. Beautiful work!
This video made me smile, Rachel. Well done on perservering with this page 💚🌿

Kelly Weston I absolutely agree!
Hi. Very nice tips ! I am currently enjoying Enchanted Forest and Lost Ocean by Johanna Basford.
Fantastic.
Love this vid and will use this as a reference. Be well. ;)

I recommend coloring in a book that does not have different pictures side to side. It's too distracting and unharmonious.
You should have made all the colours dull and then made a big, bright sunset on the sky
