I knew the series wasn't for everyone but I can't say I expected this reaction 💀💀💀 I think its fun but you're free to dislike it. I do appreciate the feedback though
I actually agree with you for the most part. I generally don’t enjoy analog horror and I find it infuriating that series like The Mandela Catalog, Walten Files, and Greylock are labelled “horror.” They’re boring, cliche, unoriginal and not scary.
@@tidal3153 I really hope that you're joking cuz ain't no way you call these series which by the way, 2 of them literally shed light to this horror genre and call them "cliche and unoriginal". I don't know about the horror part since that's objective but to say that these series are unoriginal and cliche is just straight up wrong. Since when did you seen a concept where alternate beings came to our world to take over our world insidiously?
I dont think its bad but it definitely needs some work, I put it as its good work right now, but it could be great! The edits that BB does are absolutely phenomenal
@@B.N_Chicken I want you to name the analog series I’m talking about: In this series, there’s evil entities that look human, but the catch is they actually aren’t human. They smile at the camera with a grainy filter over the screen, and say obscure things like “I’m inside your home.” Mandela catalog? Vita carnis? Greylock? Gemini Home Entertainment? Happy Meat Farms? Etc? That, or it’s about FNAF. It’s insulting to call these horror when the most they ever amount to is a poorly edited PNG jumpscare and a poorly written story.

@@brunettebi4111 For what it is I don't find it that bad. Like this analog horror what it's got is really good horrifying art (For the like.. 3 in this South Park one) But at least Urban Spook is much less telling a compelling narritive and more just giving a small story to piece together an excuse and theme for their paintings, and those art pieces are realllly good.
Another sticking point for me, aside from the occasional typo in what are supposed to be official statements, is the list of counties called out during the emergency notification. "South Park" is not a real county, the real South Park exists within Park County, which is called out in the show as well. St. John's County is in Florida and Robinson County is in Wales. Long Road, like "South Park County" also does not exist.
I was going to say: this is extremely bad. Like, they get the format wrong, they get the dates wrong by a mile, and they even get the medical terminology wrong. Like to some 12-year-old, they might not understand this, but as an adult this is just horrible. Whoever made this should feel bad. It doesn't take that long to Google and look up stuff, especially when there's such a wealth of resources on all of this. The Mandela catalog seems to get stuff right for the most part. There's unanswered questions, but there's an internal logic and rationale to all of it, And it's very well put together.
I feel like the main issue with the series itself is that a analog horror based on SOUTH PARK is trying to take itself seriously. This would work so much better if it was parody. Like another comment said, write it how the sp writers would of done it, jokes and all.
I couldn't help but laugh at that first jumpscare... this is the modern low effort creepypasta. Shame, I love South Park and analog horror... the execution just seems shoddy here
i was wondering if this video was even fr after seeing him critique the shit out of the analog horror scene and then immediate wrap around into BLACK EYES! BLOOD TEARS! DEAD PEOPLE!
Honestly this feels very much like a re-creation of some form of creepypasta, like the folks who made stuff for sonic.exe and the like. Hyper-realistic blood and gore included even, along with the edgy max and ruby faces lmao
Man, I watched that ARG and followed it quite thoroughly together with my friend. Every day we would talk and theorize about it, being big South Park fans. We'd constantly wonder who those bodies belonged to and who distributed the tapes. One night, however, he actually became affected by it, having night terrors and seeing weird shit like the children did in the series. I kept telling him none of it was real and that he should just stay awake through the night watching some movies or shows, not the ARG since it was Saturday anyways. Around 2 AM I went to bed, my friend still staying awake, I told him to call me if anything happens and to not do any irrational things. I got woken up at around 4 AM by my phone ringing, I see it's my friend and I instantly go into that "OH SHIT" mode if you know what I mean. I picked it up and kept saying his name frantically. Just static but then suddenly I hear a voice asking "You got about tree fiddy?" It was then that I realized it wasn't my friend who called me but a crustacean from the paleolithic era. "I ain't giving you no goddamn tree fiddy! Get your own damn money!" I shouted, hanged up and went back to bed.

This is a perfect compilation of things people poke fun at in analog horror. The mindless use of vintage filters, cuts and "spooky lost VHS/PSAs" and the cheap use of distorted, spooky imagery.
I mean, it's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but this ARG reminds me ALOT of the very early creepypastas that had "found footage" attached to the story for immersive value. I have to recommend one that I really enjoy and has many "screenshot" images to add to the immersive value of the story: the Godzilla NES creepypasta. Yes, I know the ending to the original story was kind of...meh, but the rest is really good in my opinion. Not sure if it counts as an ARG, but I'd love to see your take on it, Peter. It has an ongoing sequel as well that is currently almost complete.
Creepypastas were so funny and over the top cheesy back then. I like the concept of cursed games and old blurry grainy NES game footage, but they always go overboard with demonic possession and weird stuff lmao
lmfao and a typo too, "your fixed" at 11:00 edit: watched further and found even more typos and syntax errors. at least run your shit through grammarly first bro 💀
At this point I don't even know what analogue horror creators could do to make something cool. In retrospective, Gemini Entertainment is kinda cringy and bad too, not disturbing, not super unsettling, lots of grainy filters, funniest creature editing or just filming a dude running towards a camera saying "woah this is one of THEM". Most analogue horror is like that, maybe something like the new Ningen one could be better. tbh I'm not even picky, I like most of the found footage stuff as long as the monster isn't too lame. I wish there was something new. Idk, lost research facility with dinosaurs, medieval stuff, more of the eerie deep sea footage, stuff like that. Something like Spongebob or South Park is just silly.
This series does something I despise in bad analog horror: misunderstand the medium. These are supposed to be old tapings of episodes from South Park, but then add things like "THIS TAPE IS CORRUPTED DISCARD IMMEDIATELY" which a tape player couldn't do! Even IF a VHS player could tell a tape was "corrupted," it couldn't edit the video and add a warning into it. It breaks the immersion so hard because they're using a bad format. If you want something advanced enough to add warnings like that, go a generation up and use dvds. A computer reading a disc could *potentially* add a message like that, but VHS? No way!
Reminds me of when you see old Looney tunes shorts where they cut the film or shoot an audience member. Probably worked great in the theaters but not so well on t.v and definitely not well on streaming services.
@@angelinacamacho8575 or old youtube videos where they make meta jokes about where the title of the video is or edit in old UI features like annotations or the old buffer animation. not quite the same as people misunderstanding how reel to reel film works lol but i have a similar reaction to it
yeah honestly when horror series start treating mundane technology like it's magic, that really kills it for me the "horror" of these found footage/analog-style series should come from the idea that you're seeing something you're not supposed to see, not that the video tapes themselves are magic or something edit: this series takes place in 1998 but the episode "Kenny Dies" premiered on 2001 💀
A lot of the stuff in this feels like that. Like it feels less like analog horror, because so much of it is based on corrupted digital media in a lot of ways. Like the multicolored bars, the warnings, stuff like that.
yeah, arg become another buzzword, surprise surprise. people label every analog horror as an arg. Saw people praising the mandela catalogue for being such an amazing arg. And this, paired with this south park analog "horror" is the reason why you should always gatekeep.
@@zoltanbojan8035 It is though: ARG has come to mean horror video series, with or without interactive elements. That's how the acronym is used, so that's what it means.
I think watching this video showed me why so many analog horror series fall completely flat on their face tbh. As another comment pointed out, they completely misunderstand the medium they're in and end up doing wild nonsense. Obviously there's always going to be some level of suspension of disbelief with horror stories, because the real world isn't very scary and there's gotta be some unrealistic element to bring the fear, but works like this push it way too far. Someone else already pointed out how the "THIS TAPE IS CORRUPTED" message makes no sense, it's *analog* horror for a reason, it's not digital, tape players couldn't do that kind of check for "corrupted data" because there is no "data", it's not digital. But that kind of lack of understanding is everywhere in this. The parts with the hospital and police tapes are especially frustrating for this. I get why those segments were done as tapes; UA-cam is a video sharing platform so doing it as a video makes the most sense, right? But from an in-universe perspective it's completely bizarre that they'd decide to edit together a VHS tape when a folder with a typed letter and a few children's drawings would've accomplished the same thing way faster. Like, in the modern age you can put together something like that relatively quickly - take pictures of the drawings, put it all into a movie maker software, export an MP4. But in 1998? That would've taken hours of extra work for a less convenient method of viewing the pictures. Just imagine a cop at the police station putting that tape together, having to edit together all that in an era where all editing had to be done by hand, all so... they could put a few pictures and a brief text preamble before the video they found. Adding sound effects every time a new piece of evidence pops up, for some reason. Also the video game was just unbelievably stupid. Video games are stored on ROM cartridges that can't edited at all, and if they did make their own carts from scratch, why would the console show a "THIS CARTRIDGE IS CORRUPTED" message? The N64 has no frame of reference for what a video game is _supposed_ to be, it doesn't care what's on the cart so long as it doesn't crash the system and it passes the lockout check. All of this nonsense for a message that's fundamentally no different from what they put in their television hijackings, so I don't know why the video game aspect is here at all. It might seem silly to nitpick over all these details, but analog horror lives and dies by the style. It'd be like if a found footage movie suddenly cut to professionally shot and edited film recorded with super high end movie cameras, it just completely breaks the immersion and turns the style into a failed gimmick. And the sad part is that even if these issues were fixed, the actual story behind this isn't great either. The fundamental concept is a classic (some would even say cliche), but this series does nothing unique with it. Some unseen force is killing the characters and turning them into monsters, but we don't have even the foggiest clue who's behind it or why they're doing it. Cartman swears revenge after being humiliated, but the very next time we see him he's a monster with no implication of what caused him to be transformed; how is there a plot hole in such a minimal narrative? The parts outside the show are similarly bad. If these episodes are killing people in the real world, and the CIA is involved, why hasn't Comedy Central been shut down for public safety? Why is the CIA forced to issue public statements saying people should _call their cable provider and politely ask them to drop the channel?_ If a situation like that happened in the real world, the channel would be off the air almost immediately. Idk, I hate being this harsh on a series, the creator seems really passionate and putting all of this together no doubt took a lot of work. The drawings and gore effects (unless those are taken from somewhere else) are super well-done. But almost everything about this series misses the mark by a country mile. I hope the creator takes the criticism to heart and makes something better in the future.
I feel like people aren't hard enough on analog horror when it's objectively shit. Some are passion projects even if they fail, yes, but acting like they're ALL made with love is just a lie. Some like urbanspook or monument mythos are made by creeps who can't handle criticism or abusers, others are very much made to cash in on the genre. If no one tells you you've made something bad and you can't recognize it yourself, then you won't improve. Frankly, there's already really nothing to improve upon with a genre as terrible as analog horror, there's a reason other genres like digital horror have been leaving the "scary jerma sus face with vhs filter meets invasion of the body snatchers" videos in the dust.
I lowkey feel a bit bad for the creator as someone who used to watch his older non-South Park related work. Imagine being excited that someone covered your work only to find the comments riffing on it. That being said, this series does unfortunately fall into the multiple pitfalls most inexperienced analog horror series fall victim to. I do hope the creator can take these comments as not mindless bashing but needed criticism in order to improve their work in the future.
Yeah, it definitely reminds me of some of the really old creepypastas. Complete with the "And then the person watching the footage died a horrible death OHNOSOSPOOKY!" endings.
I support this arg like any other but i think it's ironic for you to critique other series then show one with the same or arguably worse tropes 😭 i think it wouldve been adequate enough to say that other projects just arent for you but this is. And honestly i think that setup is why the response in the comments is so generally negative - you built it up on ridiculous standards. It's absolutely a good thing that anyone can make an analog horror because self expression should be accessible. I think this was a good video but in the future i hope you would think more about framing and dissing other artworks
Couldn't have said it better myself. Complaining about the cliches of the genre is valid, so is showinb bias to an example you enjoy more than the rest, but trying to build it up by tearing the pther examples down as if it doesn't fall in similar issues is a bit eyebrow rising lol. At least he's being open to criticism so I can't fault that.
@@oliviastewart601 of course! I've been a fan of horror for a long time, and im an artist myself, as well as a queer person who's been exposed to a lot of "weird" queer art, so i do my best to understand that even if something isnt for me it's a good thing that that person was able to express themselves. It's extremely hard to budget and be seen as an artist so i think it's overall a positive thing that modern analog horror is so accessible to everyone. I think it's important to give creators constructive criticism specific to them rather than to tear everyone down for being inexperienced or repetitive
@@zoey_2538 That's what I think too. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of not very good Analog horror series, but there are some REALLY good ones hiding among them that a lot of people unintentionally brush off. Like Vita Carnis. That is a good example of a not so popular Analog series, being put with the not as good ones. Even though it has a lot of effort for a series and a lot of world building. So I appreciate when someone else thinks the same.
I remember seeing the Cartman one a little while ago and thought it was interesting, didn't realise that there were more in the series. However after seeing the others, I can safely say that I'm not a fan. There's a very loose story that barely holds it together, it definitely gives me more crappypasta vibes rather than ARG vibes, i.e. Seeing a spooky haunted tape with warnings, hyperrealistic blood, spooky faces and real dead bodies that causes entities to escape and kill people. It seems like it doesn't have the Game part of an ARG. It doesn't have mysteries that people come together to solve, it really just tells you what's going on. I don't like shitting on people for doing something creative but there is huge room for improvement here! All in all though, I did enjoy your analysis!
I thought this was a shitpost when I first saw this but i think I was incorrect. People will do literally ANYTHING but come up with original ideas anymore.
@Steiveplays I get tired of hearing this as a rebuttal for criticism. Just because I haven’t made a film myself doesn’t mean I can’t point out the flaws in a movie. Just because I’m not a professional cook doesn’t mean I can’t taste a dish and say it tastes like crap. If you can back your criticism with arguments for why you feel that way in the first place, those criticisms are valid. Are you going to sit there and tell me I can’t rip apart Onision’s “novels” because I haven’t written one myself?
@@sacredsin7282the main issue I think here is the fact people are saying it's unoriginal while completely ignoring the fact this person may just be uneducated and instead of actually giving constructive criticism it's just. Criticism. Nothing constructive about saying "this is shit" and then not explaining how they could improve.
This ARG is exactly like the ones you were describing earlier tbh this reminds me a lot of something trying to rip off Squidwards Suicide or something like that
This comes off as a GenZ that hadn't experienced the 90's and is guessing this is what the medium was like, in conjunction with setting the themes of this ARG.
I can't say I'm a fan of this one. Firstly this isn't an ARG, it has no information/lore to be found outside of the videos and no expectations so far to look for anything like that, its just an analog horror/VHS series, so the title is a bit of a mislead. In terms of the actual videos, there's a lot of flaws, most of the visuals don't seem particularly scary beyond fairly generic creepypasta stuff, the sound design doesn't pack much of a punch and some of the sounds seem to be lifted from video games, like I think one of them is just a song from Pokemon and there's a few spelling/grammar mistakes. Not wanting to be completely negative and critical, a few of the visuals were very nicely edited, especially Ike and the torso shot of Adam Ford, and the story in general does have some good potential in where it could lead, but overall I'm fairly underwhelmed so far. Also not wanting to compare it to the FNAF VHS tapes by Squimpus McGrimpus but some of the visuals and themes did seem to be fairly inspired by it, but it's not like they were the first or only ones to use those devices, it's just a series I do hold in quite high regard as it does well to get the unsettling tone without going too over the top. To give the creator some credit, the videos did seem to increase in quality in many aspects as it progressed, so I can see good potential here still if they keep learning and improving, and just to create something and upload it on here and be telling a narrative and gaining a fanbase is a tremendous accomplishment still and I do hope they continue to make things and develop their skills. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more uploads still and hope that they take this in an interesting direction to stand out from the tropes that have been done to death already.
@@Slendermangaming666 Its just a spooky tape than Disney apparently made then hid but some intern sees it and kills himself. It's the same as the rest.

Bro, the point of horror is to scare. To make a person feel terror. This analog “””horror””” completely fails at doing this at an unobjective level. The only people who would find this scary are 12 year olds. I want analog horror to actually be scary again, without having to rely on the same people over and over again, like Martin walls or battington.

Ok I’m so glad the comments have the same opinion I do. The only good thing I can give this series is the Ike Jumpscare. That image was genuinely fucking creepy to me. Other than that, this one kinda sucks
And literally the the horor looks like a black and white film because it refuses various creepypasta images the rusion sleep experiment the smiling lady etc with some unique 3d things
it feels like maybe this is the arg creator's first attempt at the medium, which would explain a lot of the issues I have with it. I won't go into it, because many other people here already have, but this feels like Baby's First Creepypasta. That's not a bad thing! I hope the creator can take what they learn from this arg and take constructive criticism and use it to make something even better in a future
I'm starting to wonder if the show itself (South Park), is sentient. The characters are aware of what's going on, but are ultimately powerless and have no way of defending themselves from the threats posed by the hijackings.
@@Steiveplays All I'm saying is that Local 58, Mandela Catalogue, Gemini Home Entertainment, and Monument Mythos aren't called Local 58 ANALOG HORROR, Mandela Catalogue ANALOG HORROR, Gemini Home Entertainment ANALOG HORROR, and Monument Mythos ANALOG HORROR. Honestly series like this are why digital horror has been leaving analog horror in the dust for a long while now This falls into too many of the cliches I did find the premise and ideas interesting and the gore and shock images are super well made but the major problem I have with this is the loud and constant jumpscares through out the series. Also if the author or anyone plans on doing any more South Park Horror series like this one just a minor critic but please do research on the episodes that you're going to use and what the release date they came out on. Its a bit of an immersion breaking but I still kinda enjoyed this even if the jump scares got too annoying
⚠️contains spoilers for this series⚠️ Tbh thinking about this series’s missed potential makes me sad. The idea, plot and some of the imagery in this series is actually pretty good, I heard some people even thought the body in cartman’s revenge was a real corpse (it was just a Halloween decoration lol) but the way it’s scares are executed are complete donkey. Even tho it’s had its genuinely disturbing moments (that scene in cartmans revenge where butters’s mom Linda finds her sons mangled body and the blood curdling screams she produces genuinely made chill run down my spine, but maybe if it wasn’t for me absolutely adoring butters as a character, it wouldn’t have affected me so much) most of the times it feels like it’s trying too hard to be scary. Like “Oh HeReS a BlOoDy CaRtMaN! AnD nOw HeRe’S a RaNdOm SpOoPy ScReAmEr!ThIs’Ll SuRe GiVe YaLl NiGhTmArEs” 😱. I especially thought this was apparent in the second video of the series where after showing us a blank screen for nearly a minute, it puts up a random mouth image and puts a scream over it despite the fact that it had nothing to do with anything in the video, and nothing like that was ever brought up in the series ever again. I rolled my eyes when that came up because I knew that was only there for the cheap spooks. This series honestly reminds me of some sort of UA-cam parody making fun of analog horror nowadays or something. When the first video in the series came out (stan’s grieving) I actually liked it and thought it would be an amazing series. But than again the next episode is coming out in 2 days so maybe it’ll actually be an improvement (very little hope tho). (Btw sorry if I say anything stupid it’s because I haven’t watched this particular video yet, I just saw a ton of comments shitting on this series and thinking I’d share my take on this analog horror. Hopefully I don’t offend anyone, and if beyond birth somehow sees this comment I hope they can use this as a way of improving the next episodes) Edit: beyond birth actually made a video based on a creepy pasta called “gateway to the mind” and it’s actually really good. I suggest you watch that video.
It's alright. But would've been cooler if it was based around Mysterion. And had alot more effort put into it. I mean Mysterion's a pretty tragic and kinda brutal character. I mean Kenny's the only person who can remember his deaths. So...
Scott tenorman could also work, as his character is tragic in a way, as eating his parents and getting sent to a mental asylum definitely had an effect on him
This feels like someone having fun with Analog Horror tropes. Just getting a little creative without actually setting out to make something particularly good or meaningful. The jaunty theme at the end with the CIA message telling the viewer to call their cable provider to remove comedy central just drives it home. It was a fun second monitor watch.
Unlisted gang... I'm assuming its unlisted due to the comments but tbh I did still like this video and enjoyed your thoughts on everything even if it was a bit "memey". I was confused when I couldn't find it again. Either way, keep up the work.
Ok so at first when I saw the crappy sonic.exe Stan in the beginning I had very low expectations but this arg is actually getting good and interesting now, the art for like the closeup of skeleton Kenny and Cartman is suprisingly well done
I dug how Ike looked, looking like some creepy clay figure creation But I'd prefered the art seperated from the terrible story that tried to use them as just poor jumpscare shock material
Everything wrong with this ARG: 1. Most of the clips from the show are from episodes aired after 1998 2. “Is death is” 3. Butters should be replaced with Pip 4. More something wrong with this video, but Butters showed the video of Cartman going “touch my body” to US Goverment agents, not the school
People keep calling this an ARG, but ARG’s and Analog horror stories aren’t the same thing. This isn’t an ARG either, since that would mean it requires irl interaction to continue.
This doesn't work only because there are episodes from the mid 2000s being pieced together for a story in 1998. Simply abandoning the VHS schtick and making this a hijacked broadcast or even DVD would work better
It sits in the "Schrodinger's Humor" valley for me. Not sure if it's a joke or serious, and it makes it hard for me to engage with it. I don't know if it's trying to take itself seriously or not
"H-hey peter? I think... you're scared of the wrong series..." I think with how popular South Park is right now, the idea of a South Park Analog Horror would be pretty neat! However this one really isn't it... Clearly the Maker put work into it and the goreish pictures used are pretty unnerving, but it depends solely on that for its horror and it gets a bit tacky after a while. Just my own personal opinion tho!
Yeah, Kenny has the same "infinite death" thing as Emesis Blue, and there's a lot of horror to be found there. Kenny Dies, being a temporary end to his suffering, is probably the worst episode you could use as your jumping off point.
Can't wait for south park to catch wind of this and meme on the south park analogue horror arg in an episode. It would be southpark-ception. Southpark memeing on an arg memeing on southpark, a show about memeing on current culture.
I'm pretty much repeating what everyone else literally already said, but the "this tape was corrupted" part was kinda repetitive, the jumpscares were ok, and the lore and info was pretty inconsistent. On a positive note, I do like the art horror art because it was pretty cool and unsettling (except Stan and Kyle). The videos were put nicely together and I don't really mind the flaws becuase I love South Park, and I didn't really notice the inconsistencies until people mentioned it in the comments 💀I might check it out later! I also really liked the video btw! I hope you post more in the future and don't get too discouraged by these comments :>
If your goal was to be like Wendigoon, do not just gather all of the analog horror clips and paste them together. What makes him so interesting to watch is his attitude, he never tries to scare anyone nor is he pessimistic or insulting to other analog horrors. He points out what he likes, dislikes. He makes jokes and actually dissects the stories he is talking about. Creating theories and an actual discussion. He purposely refuses to show clips sometimes, encouraging the viewer to support and watch the original creator which is SO important. Regardless if its good or bad. UrbanSpooks for example is known for one of the most controversial analog horror stories ever. Everyone was bashing on it. Yet Wendigoon was able to STILL point out the good and potentional. Ofc he still pointed out the tropes but respectfully. He never hated on it for that alone. Thats how to create a video about an analog horror. Make it intresting, give your own thoughts and opinions on the story itself, support the creator. Don't just paste multiple clips together and call it a day. You talking about your connection to the store while giving thoughts and opinions would have bee SO much more interesting then the entire story clippd together. Also instead of just showing the clips, let them play while summing up the story, only pin pointing the important parts. Even NightMind who does play a LOT of clips still is able to only show enough to peek interest, but never to much to basically steal views from the orignal creator. No disrespect ofc. I just hope your channel grows and improves because I want to more of you content.
This is literally what every bad lost episode creepypasta is, take an episode from a show, change it to have spooky text and undertones, and all the blood and hyper-realistic gore you could ask for.
The clips from the episodes that are used in this arg come from different eras of South Park, which killed the mood the arg was going for. Like, how did the TV station get an episode that was aired in 2006?
the language used in the safety warnings and stuff especially on the comedy central segments really take me out of it lol they wouldnt word it like thag
Also there's no way in Hell the CIA would be involved in this situation. I could believe the FCC or maybe even the FBI getting involved, but the CIA has way more important things to do than worry about a weird TV broadcast.
12:53 This scene is most likely depicting what torment he is going through in the afterlife. This is because the episode is called Kenny’s Torment and because of the “This isn’t real” text. The “This isn’t real” text means that Kenny isn’t actually alive, but he is being tormented in the afterlife. This would not only match up with the title of the episode but also the disturbing voice while Kenny is laying in bed. Kenny has died and is being tormented in the afterlife

In this series, there’s evil entities that look human, but the catch is they actually aren’t human. They smile at the camera with a grainy filter over the screen, and say obscure things like “I’m inside your home.”

That, or it’s about FNAF.
It’s insulting to call these horror when the most they ever amount to is a poorly edited PNG jumpscare and a poorly written story.
Also, “shed light to this horror genre” is hilarious.

Oh yes, back in the analog 90s when News Channels delivered the news via text, on television. That takes me back!
No way!
exactly, that's a huge pet peeve of mine because it really breaks my immersion
Reminds me of when you see old Looney tunes shorts where they cut the film or shoot an audience member. Probably worked great in the theaters but not so well on t.v and definitely not well on streaming services.

yeah honestly when horror series start treating mundane technology like it's magic, that really kills it for me
the "horror" of these found footage/analog-style series should come from the idea that you're seeing something you're not supposed to see, not that the video tapes themselves are magic or something
edit: this series takes place in 1998 but the episode "Kenny Dies" premiered on 2001 💀
A lot of the stuff in this feels like that. Like it feels less like analog horror, because so much of it is based on corrupted digital media in a lot of ways. Like the multicolored bars, the warnings, stuff like that.
This isn’t an arg as there’s no interactive or game component to it, it’s just a video horror series.
yeah, arg become another buzzword, surprise surprise. people label every analog horror as an arg. Saw people praising the mandela catalogue for being such an amazing arg. And this, paired with this south park analog "horror" is the reason why you should always gatekeep.

@@marcovalentini863 it is not really a language change
I thought this was a shitpost when I first saw this but i think I was incorrect. People will do literally ANYTHING but come up with original ideas anymore.
go make your own original analog horror series, then.
@@sacredsin7282Kay but onion boy is literally a pedophile. Literally no one would tell you not to. Or at least no one sane.

You can say that agian
This ARG is exactly like the ones you were describing earlier tbh this reminds me a lot of something trying to rip off Squidwards Suicide or something like that
Not an ARG. ARG = Alternate Reality Game. There is no interactive element to this. Analog Horror does not equal ARG. Words have meanings.
@@WhackalopeReddit is to the left sir
“Drought” from Pokémon Ruby plays at 18:40 ! Undoubtably a creepy track but still a goofy horror series
This was never an arg, it’s just been analog horror.
You brought up the sounds being lifted. I know one of the EAS alerts was lifted from Analog Archives from Tempest Productions
"This isn't an ARG"
FUCKING THANK YOU!
You have no idea how many comments I came across calling this an ARG, shit was pissing me off so much.
@labooba9142 i Thought thats what that was! i was like "that sounds like lavander town so im guessing pokemon"
Brodie just self snitched that he likes .exe horror more than analog horror
then again, at least people can say .exe horror is bad without getting swamped by kane pixels, gemini or mandela fans.
Madela Catalogue was my intro to analog horror, and while watching it, I checked 10 times to make sure my door was locked!
I can’t tell if he knows that South Park is a real town in Colorado; where the show is set
wait IT IS

OP taking this series so seriously when it’s the textbook definition of a silly and cliche analog horror video
Personally, when I can tell exactly what filter/app these types of series use, it immediately takes me out of the experience
Honestly, I can't say this is "good"
But it's enjoyable because it reminds me of early creepypasta days
This hurt to watch lol its legit the og squidward suicide style
18:24 when you get the bubble shield in sonic 3
i actually unironically enjoyed this? sometimes its nice to just sit back and watch cliche analog horror and look past its flaws and enjoy the story its trying to provide. sure it isnt perfect, but its evident that the creator put their best effort into it. great video covering this man, i never would've known about this series if it werent for you!
@@dogeboithedoomslayerthis channel, and most people who idolize analog horror youtubers(as well as the youtubers themselves) genuinely believe that story>being horrified. another symptom of chronically online losers being able to find eachother thanks to the internet

If you genuinely thought Mandela Catalogue was scary when it first released I'd think something is wrong with you.
Play Alien Isolation instead.

@@Yahoo-eI’m sad seeing all the MC hate on this comment section, MC got SUCH A GLOWUP.
"oh no, a person committed suicide. Now they have 13 year old creepypasta creator powers"
Ok I’m so glad the comments have the same opinion I do. The only good thing I can give this series is the Ike Jumpscare. That image was genuinely fucking creepy to me. Other than that, this one kinda sucks
Ike's big chalky grey crater like teeths really amps up the fear factor
Naa looks just like ike would in a live action south park he's cute
And literally the the horor looks like a black and white film because it refuses various creepypasta images the rusion sleep experiment the smiling lady etc with some unique 3d things
it feels like maybe this is the arg creator's first attempt at the medium, which would explain a lot of the issues I have with it. I won't go into it, because many other people here already have, but this feels like Baby's First Creepypasta. That's not a bad thing! I hope the creator can take what they learn from this arg and take constructive criticism and use it to make something even better in a future
Would probably be your first arg as this doesn't have any game aspects at all
Honestly, I'm just glad to finally see someone acknowledge Local58 as the first true big Analog Horror, and not Mandela Catalogue.
I'm starting to wonder if the show itself (South Park), is sentient. The characters are aware of what's going on, but are ultimately powerless and have no way of defending themselves from the threats posed by the hijackings.
If you have to call something Analog Horror then it is not Analog Horror. You really polished a turd with this one
"if you have to call a song a metal song, it isnt metal!" me when i gatekeep
@@Steiveplays All I'm saying is that Local 58, Mandela Catalogue, Gemini Home Entertainment, and Monument Mythos aren't called Local 58 ANALOG HORROR, Mandela Catalogue ANALOG HORROR, Gemini Home Entertainment ANALOG HORROR, and Monument Mythos ANALOG HORROR. The creators make projects that speak for themselves instead of projects that need a big flashing sign to tell you that it's supposed to be analog horror.
@@Steiveplays i think my primary issue with this series is that it mislabels itself as an arg. it has no interactive game elements. it's an unfiction, which is okay! unfiction is great! but it's not a arg.

Honestly series like this are why digital horror has been leaving analog horror in the dust for a long while now
This falls into too many of the cliches
I did find the premise and ideas interesting and the gore and shock images are super well made but the major problem I have with this is the loud and constant jumpscares through out the series. Also if the author or anyone plans on doing any more South Park Horror series like this one just a minor critic but please do research on the episodes that you're going to use and what the release date they came out on. Its a bit of an immersion breaking but I still kinda enjoyed this even if the jump scares got too annoying
⚠️contains spoilers for this series⚠️
Tbh thinking about this series’s missed potential makes me sad.
Hopefully I don’t offend anyone, and if beyond birth somehow sees this comment I hope they can use this as a way of improving the next episodes)
Edit: beyond birth actually made a video based on a creepy pasta called “gateway to the mind” and it’s actually really good. I suggest you watch that video.
My man I think you are hyping this up way too much when it...really isn't much different than the bad analog horrors you describe of
It's alright. But would've been cooler if it was based around Mysterion. And had alot more effort put into it. I mean Mysterion's a pretty tragic and kinda brutal character. I mean Kenny's the only person who can remember his deaths. So...
Mysterion is Kennys superhero persona
@@Krusty_bot63 yeah
Scott tenorman could also work, as his character is tragic in a way, as eating his parents and getting sent to a mental asylum definitely had an effect on him
@@Krusty_bot63 I agree! It also could've been based off Cartman's Decline..
But no. It's just another mid and basic Analog Horror.
Jee, man.
The way Butters' Mother screams gives me legit chills.
Baby's first analog horror.
I hate when args relly on jumpscares to create horror
I would like if a ARG builded up to a jumpscare with the tension but it doesn't release it
this is what I thought would happen if I watched southpark as a kid
nahh this gotta be ironic💀💀💀
Dude, when Kenny was sleeping it plays the "waltuh" sound effect repeatedly. This is obviously for shits and giggles
Unlisted gang... I'm assuming its unlisted due to the comments but tbh I did still like this video and enjoyed your thoughts on everything even if it was a bit "memey". I was confused when I couldn't find it again. Either way, keep up the work.
Ok but the fact the first jumpscare looks like its called cartman.exe 💀
Nah that’s Antarctic recreational ground 💀
Ok so at first when I saw the crappy sonic.exe Stan in the beginning I had very low expectations but this arg is actually getting good and interesting now, the art for like the closeup of skeleton Kenny and Cartman is suprisingly well done
I dug how Ike looked, looking like some creepy clay figure creation
But I'd prefered the art seperated from the terrible story that tried to use them as just poor jumpscare shock material
its not even an arg it does nothing outside of the videos
Everything wrong with this ARG:
1. Most of the clips from the show are from episodes aired after 1998
2. “Is death is”
3. Butters should be replaced with Pip
4. More something wrong with this video, but Butters showed the video of Cartman going “touch my body” to US Goverment agents, not the school
25:10 How does bro have a flatscreen TV in 1998 😭
Eyyyy RPTV! Just don't question it
tbh I enjoy this cause it gives me a sence of nostalgia from the old days of creepypastas. A sort of vibe thats hard to describe.
"Bad"?
People keep calling this an ARG, but ARG’s and Analog horror stories aren’t the same thing. This isn’t an ARG either, since that would mean it requires irl interaction to continue.
I mean..if they wanna take Cartman I say we just let em.
They’ll probably give him back after two minutes of hearing him talk
This doesn't work only because there are episodes from the mid 2000s being pieced together for a story in 1998. Simply abandoning the VHS schtick and making this a hijacked broadcast or even DVD would work better
Ironically, i bet the next part of this series is gonna be about Beavis and Butt-Head
this has to be satire right? like this analog horror at it's most stereotypical
28:31 like it even has a emergency broadcast with text to speech
This is exactly the corny analog horror you were talking about in the start
the description of bad analog horror at the start leading into the exact description is beautiful to me actually
It sits in the "Schrodinger's Humor" valley for me. Not sure if it's a joke or serious, and it makes it hard for me to engage with it. I don't know if it's trying to take itself seriously or not
This would be a hilarious Halloween special if they took old episodes and made them into shitty analogue horror videos
"H-hey peter? I think... you're scared of the wrong series..."
All seriousness though, its not inherently too bad, honestly its better than what mandela is/became in my opinion- theres definitely worse but its a nice series to watch if theres nothing else thats interesting to you
Im gonna start talking to myself cause i currently have nothing to do but reading some of the replies from the pinned comment made me giggle, gemini made a whole ass playable game for you to play, taking genuine *inspiration* from from local58 rather than copying it and turning it into its own actual thing 😭 this world is crazy
21:15 GET CARTMANED!
fun fact: stans grieving and erics revenge i think are retellings of smiling cherub and erics revenge
I think with how popular South Park is right now, the idea of a South Park Analog Horror would be pretty neat!
Like UrbanSpook with it's snowflake creator
10:26 I thought he was going to say “I will put you back together,” for a second
This ARG got quite a bit of mileage out of the “Dead Celebrities” episode
Was that a Guilty Gear Analog Horror at the begging?
The theme at 18:39 is fire to me
It’s strange, they use a already gory yet goofy series to scary you, it’s interesting.
"Some assholes are messing with the cable and putting weird shit on the screen."
Also there's no way in Hell the CIA would be involved in this situation. I could believe the FCC or maybe even the FBI getting involved, but the CIA has way more important things to do than worry about a weird TV broadcast.
SPY SAPPIN MAH SOUTH PARK
I was expecting this series to be good based on how he described it in the beginning. Oh how i was wrong
Same and i was confused about the hate until it kept going and i was like "ahhh that's why."
this ARG is pretty cliche but for some reason i really like it? like i can’t wait to know what happens next.
yeah nah this series aint it
“Howard the coward, dean the devil,” cosmonaut 1.
I'm sorry but this video is better than the entire analog "horror" series
