*1:55** Nothing to do with the game, just thought id’s mention it. In the original Sonic.EXE story. X (Sonic.EXE’s canon name) isn’t a demon possessing Sonic. In fact Sonic is just a game brand in universe. Basically this being made of anti-matter discovered the Sonic series and was like “oh cool I wanna do that” and created a disc modeled after a Sonic game. Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik are the souls of real people (ok not real but you know) inside the bodies of Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik. There nearest are Alan, Dave and Paul respectively. Sorry I* REALLY *wanted to get that off my chest. Though something I will say, fun fact! **5:59** The rotten Sonic (who’s name is apparently named End according to the files)’s jump is a reference to Sonic’s jump animation in older builds of Sonic 1 after completing a level. And finally, Sonic isn’t “weird looking”. The entire game has a shader on it. Removing it reveals that his eyes are simply closed.*
to this day it impresses me that the author took a pretty bad story and somehow made it even worse by retconning it into all this dark matter stuff lol
20:16 the original tails was 8, maybe something happened and the original tails was shot in some sort of hunting accident, only realizing that they shot a little boy on thier birthday, making them become intensively scared by the consequences of shooting a kid. therefore trying to hide the body somewhere and causing sonics intense grief that he tried to attack at some convient time, making one of the accomplishes limp, and sonic was shot only causing injuries. This is a theory me and my best brother made up while watching this video 🤑
This kinda reminds me of “pet cemetery” or at least that episode of South Park where the kids fake butters death. Where people bury someone (potentially sonics friends burying sonic or the characters being just representations) and due to the body being put into cursed ground it’s reanimated into essentially a cryptid. With my guess being the boss fight at the end of the game is the cryptid attacking one of the guys who buried it and potentially turning them into another version of itself. With the second game being witness reports of the cryptids creating more of itself by attacking people inside a town.
13:47 it looks like a deeply disturbing sonic on all fours if you see the arm and extended leg like I do. and if that’s the case than it’s face (the pink with an eye and a jaw) is terrifying and way too human for a hedgehog.
I think the lamp scene is a symbolic version of a car crash. It looks like some kind of gate you would see on a country trail, the broken lamp most likely one of many along said trail to help drivers see at night. I think whoever the body in returnal belongs to died via a car crash and the police investigation is seemingly the aftermath.
13:25 from what i can make out, it takes place on the EXACT SAME mountain inside the exe file, the green mountain. The face is of a person that is now sonic…or a version of him that is, it’s face is definitely broken and deformed a bit, meaning they did indeed bury someone, alive, or dead.
I think so too because if your look at the image you see grass and the night sky with a little dot I think is a star and then there's the "sonic" as we believe might be a body there was a light or torch that looked a bit red? Maybe it was the two guys burying them
something I like about this ARG is that it really feels like an old video game creepypasta, like if sonic exe never took off and thus sonic creepypastas ended up being more unique
19:06 Some people mention a hospital... But what if its not? A bus stop in a white void comes across as too familiar before a sudden Game Over... And that got me thinking... What if its not just a normal bus stop, but a reference to the legendary work of Guillermo Del Toro, and the spirit bus. What if this is the bus stop of dead souls?
I love the music and sound effects you used when editing this video. I love the silent hill sounds, wry comforting, along with postal 1 soundtrack which really sets the mood.
Don’t know if it means anything but also the DTMF numbers were 811 and he was once again active on August 11th. August is the 8th month and the 11th day… I don’t think it’s a coincidence
Well at least this game doesn’t have a certain screen in it that causes a seizure… Wink wink Edit: This really reminds me of the MARIO Rom hack and its sequels
16:45 I actually found out something about the Billboard. Diddling around with some Contrasting and Brightness and you can actually view its contents... but said contents are just a bunch of lines, with only a few "letters" spelling the word "GAME"... Not sure what this means tho. Perhaps it could relate to the Game Over?
1:52 - bit of a misconception here. Exe isn't the actual Sonic the Hedgehog possessed by a demon. Sonic is just a game series in the creepypasta's lore- he isn't actually real. Exe is a demon in a haunted Sonic rom, using Sonic's likeness since he sees himself as having permanent dibs on the Player One spot in the "games" he plays with mortals.
Dude, I think the dead body might've been the 9 year old boy... And I think "Her" is pointing at his mother. I think she said: "He turned 9 year old yesterday" might imply that the victim is simply presumed to be missing. I just dread knowing what might have happened to the child before being killed...
This cryptic Sonic fan-game also is one of my favorites, no jumpscares, no bullshit, just an unnerving environment that even an experienced horror player could be slightly disturbed of.
14:24 I don't know why you'd assume that Sonic could have been one of the characters burying the body. The conversation between the two individuals, assumedly burying a body, sounds like two characters burying a body of another character while talking about having a conversation with a third, female, character. Based on this, and the graphic style, I'm assuming that this is supposed to be based around the second Sonic the hedgehog game. That could mean it is Tails and Knuckles, the only two other male playable characters in the second Sonic game aside from Sonic himself, burying the body of Sonic based on what happens to him in the game, and the picture assuming that actually is a picture of him, while talking about needing to talk to Amy who, even though showing up previously, was introduced as a playable character in the second Sonic game.
It would also make some sense for this to be the case since Tails can fly the body and equipment up and Knuckles would have an easier time burying it with how strong he is.
Amy wasn't in Sonic 2, you may be thinking about Sonic CD, which was made concurrently by a different development team. Knuckles wasn't in Sonic 2 either, but you could plug it into the top of the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge and insert him into the game.
Yeah. I recently started playing through the old games to double check and I completely mixed the games up. I was going off of memory at the time so that's on me. Probably should have fact checked myself before I commented just to double check but I was way to confident that what I was spittin was facts. I was talking about cd when talking about Amy but thought she showed up in Sonic 2 and I was talking about Sonic 3 with knuckles but, again, thought he showed up in 2. If Knuckles showed up in any of the earlier games I either didn't notice when playing them or it's in a game I don't know about.
3:54 oh neat, it was made in GameMaker Studio. 9:07 Look at that, I was right lmao. It’s easy to tell, GameMaker is very characteristic with its small executable file size and a larger data win file accompanying it, which essentially is an emulator and the “ROM” for that emulator respectively.
13:15 if you are still wondering what that is,its a rotting corpse of sonic OR its sonic with his head upside down the theory that the "body has come back to life" isnt so impossible now,but i think *THAT* is a creature that seeks something, something in the green mountain. Sonic fought that thing, the rotting corpse. In the second game,it might be that Sonic/David (i think) goes on to kill people because of the recent events (the kid dying and having to do something with the girl) after he finds that "coffin",it might be his son
The picture is obviously just a photo of a car at night in a clearing with a broken rear brake light, with a child's bike laying next to it, between the boot and the camera perspective. The outline of the bike is really clearly defined.
I feel like the challenging thing is that there's actually a couple of images superimposed. You have the original image of the car next to the abandoned bike, then you have a translucent image layered on top that looks like someone wearing a blue bike helmet, but not remotely at the right scale. It looks like they may potentially be getting lifted up by someone wearing a hoodie who is only seen from behind, so we see the kid's head over the other person's left shoulder as they lift them up and move them from the scene. Then it's solarised and bit crushed to hell and back to make it as obscure as possible and to mask the overall wonkiness of the 'ghost' wearing a cycling helmet with the eye lined up with the glow from the rear light of the car. I feel like it's clearly not intended to be a literal depiction but instead is supposed to convey that the car hit the bike at night on a mountain road with limited visibility, presumably setting off the story, and that the body was moved from the location of the collision.
I cackled like an actual Halloween witch at this. Coronation Day is my favorite "spooky romhack" and now I'm going to start calling it Correlation Day. That's really funny.
At least the presentation is infinitely more interesting than "Sonic haunts my COMPUTER.... and he goes 'RAAAAH I am Le God of this World!'". But it's no different in premise.
heres how i interperate the first game, including the boss fight: there are two guys, one of them killed someone and asked the other to help bury them the faceless sonic is the first guy, the one who did the murder, his faceless look represents the sin of having commited the murder you play as the other guy, who is represented by sonic the other guy agrees to help bury the body, still horrified by what the first guy did they go to the green mountain to bury the body and when they get there, the first guy loses it from the pressure of it all and they both begin fighting the other guy/sonic kills the first guy by accident you cant leave because HE doesnt leave, because hes frozen in shock, sonic begins to turn into the faceless sonic, this represents the first guy becoming a murderer/realising hes become a murderer maybe the game over could represent suicide...? i dont know about that part but yeah thats my representation
I think Returnal is whoever (or whatever..) the anonymous people buried coming back, but perhaps a metaphorical sense of someone being a monster? Someone, who think they are a evil force. Someone that thinks they need to be buried, deep below the earth.
Loved this game to death, such a good idea for a story, i mean sonic arg with a dark feel under the sonic feel. No character death every 2 seconds, its based on atmospheric effects and tone other then up in your face jumpscares and such. My favorite part of it is the fact its psychological not anything else much. I think that sometime this mountain will grow. 637/10 horror fan game 👌
15:20 Theory from this far what if the pair are friends, one of the friends is visiting the grave of a love one who was burried on the mountain, they didn't know where so they had to mark it for it to be dug up later and returned the protagonist (sonic) later goes their on his own to speak to his dead lover which turns out to become corrupted because of the digging
The conversations seem to revolve around a young boy dying at a young age, probably eight. The conversation in the first one makes me think of two people discussing the body's burial, not necessarily being involved with the death itself. Maybe funeral coordinators, and the child's body is being buried on Green Mountain, somewhere that doesn't sound like a graveyard to me, making the organizers need to make that 811 call. The 'he turned nine yesterday' line reminds me of a mourner. Someone who just realized that yesterday was that child's birthday, something I speculate they forgot which is why it's mentioned. It reads to me as, "I can't believe I forgot his birthday. He was so young." An alternate, and more traditional theory, is that there is some sort of monster (the picture that might be sonic) that the two or more people in the first game mention having to bury. This example explains the gameplay more and the second game's dialogue less. I theorize that when the dialogue in the first game is said, the creature isn't actually dead yet. They lure it up to Green Mountain so that they can kill it. This doesn't fully explain the line of 'he turned nine yesterday.' Though, maybe 'he' is a victim of the monster? Maybe he became the monster somehow, and the cyclical nature of Green Mountain represents the child becoming it and thus dying? Maybe it represents some sort of Lycanthrope thing? It's really hard to say.
I kinda figured it might be a pet cemetery type deal. Like, the father couldn’t accept the kid died and tries to revive him by burying him on the mountain, only for the kid to come back as the monster. Children are often buried with toys and memorabilia so that might be why it takes the form of sonic, he was possibly buried with something sonic related. Btw, I completely agree with you, I feel like the over all tone is a bit too somber for it to just be another murder story. Plus, I feel like people over look the deliberate detail that sonics eyes are closed the whole time. It feels like he is trying to avoid seeing or acknowledging something. This fits a bit better with the grief narrative as denial is usually the first stage of grief and fits the idea of bringing something back to life instead of letting it go. Hell, I am pretty sure returnal is a combination of “return” and “eternal”, implying that the creature keeps coming back, over and over again. It’s even possible that they keep reburying the boy to revive him again, only for him to become so distorted that he turns in to the creature, hence the cycle at the end.
I don't know why their is badniks in Green mountain 2 But I have a theory.. What if Sonic was killing and eating animals outside? it kinda make sense, in Green mountain 1. when 2 people were trying to "Buried" Something, maybe like a animal that sonic killed.. And no wonder why there is some structures in Green mountain 2 that looked like homes. 18:34 "

That's interesting so why did the creator choose him to basically run blind?
The story about Sonic Exe you have tell is the rewritten one. The original is just what the game shows.
This didn't need to be entirely in bold.
@@phoenixtail901studio9 Maybe to signify blinded by guilt?
to this day it impresses me that the author took a pretty bad story and somehow made it even worse by retconning it into all this dark matter stuff lol
Ig
This kinda reminds me of “pet cemetery” or at least that episode of South Park where the kids fake butters death. Where people bury someone (potentially sonics friends burying sonic or the characters being just representations) and due to the body being put into cursed ground it’s reanimated into essentially a cryptid.
With my guess being the boss fight at the end of the game is the cryptid attacking one of the guys who buried it and potentially turning them into another version of itself. With the second game being witness reports of the cryptids creating more of itself by attacking people inside a town.

Some people mention a hospital... But what if its not? A bus stop in a white void comes across as too familiar before a sudden Game Over... And that got me thinking...

@Duckbærd Are you high? On crack perhaps?
I have a Sonic 2 game on my phone, but I'm not sure if it's the one you're talking about
If Knuckles showed up in any of the earlier games I either didn't notice when playing them or it's in a game I don't know about.

this song is enough to make me reaaally regret hearing it at 12;12 AM
the video's still awesome though
3:54 oh neat, it was made in GameMaker Studio.
9:07 Look at that, I was right lmao. It’s easy to tell, GameMaker is very characteristic with its small executable file size and a larger data win file accompanying it, which essentially is an emulator and the “ROM” for that emulator respectively.
13:15 if you are still wondering what that is,its a rotting corpse of sonic OR its sonic with his head upside down
the theory that the "body has come back to life" isnt so impossible now,but i think *THAT* is a creature that seeks something, something in the green mountain.
Sonic fought that thing, the rotting corpse.
In the second game,it might be that Sonic/David (i think) goes on to kill people because of the recent events (the kid dying and having to do something with the girl)
after he finds that "coffin",it might be his son
3:26 YOOO THAT'S MY FRIEND THATFEDORADUDE
She's amazing, y'all should totally check her games out. She's really talented!

@@pulsekinesis You're right about that. The presentation IS a lot better here.
Your voice, when filtered like this sounds like the Original Postal 1 Dude down to the quality.
Keep that up!
heres how i interperate the first game, including the boss fight:
there are two guys, one of them killed someone and asked the other to help bury them
the faceless sonic is the first guy, the one who did the murder, his faceless look represents the sin of having commited the murder
you play as the other guy, who is represented by sonic
the other guy agrees to help bury the body, still horrified by what the first guy did
they go to the green mountain to bury the body and when they get there, the first guy loses it from the pressure of it all and they both begin fighting
the other guy/sonic kills the first guy by accident
you cant leave because HE doesnt leave, because hes frozen in shock,
sonic begins to turn into the faceless sonic, this represents the first guy becoming a murderer/realising hes become a murderer
maybe the game over could represent suicide...? i dont know about that part
but yeah thats my representation
Everytime i see this game i immediately think of the quote “we become what we behold”
Also “81183” can also be a date “August 11th 1983” and when did green mountain 2 come out?
"he turned 9 yesterday" is definitely in reference to a dead child imo.
16:19 everyone hates that stage, it’s so fucking annoying

Theory from this far what if the pair are friends, one of the friends is visiting the grave of a love one who was burried on the mountain, they didn't know where so they had to mark it for it to be dug up later and returned the protagonist (sonic) later goes their on his own to speak to his dead lover which turns out to become corrupted because of the digging
he turned nine yesterday.

"They put fall damage on a 2D platform game?" JonTron before quitting
He was so young."
An alternate, and more traditional theory, is that there is some sort of monster (the picture that might be sonic) that the two or more people in the first game mention having to bury.
Been here since your coronation day video. Keep doing what you love man, I'll always support you!
