I Highly recommend 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi not a lot of people have reacted to this movie but it’s an apolitical movie about the brave American men who fought during that attack.
Harvey Dent's character is underrated. before his fall i love the poetic symmetry between Dent and batman. Batman believes in Harvey more than he believes in himself, and Harvey believes in the batman more than himself. They both fully believe that the other is what is truly necessary for Gotham's survival

This movie is hands down one of the best movies ever made. Its unfortunate that Heath Ledger died before he received his academy award for his portrayal of the Joker in this movie THE DARK KNIGHT. Its also unfortunate that he past away because a second Joker vs Batman movie would of been nothing short of EPIC.

@@chrismalik1579 No offense, but this is pretty easily in the minority. So maybe there's a chance that you're looking for something that isn't there? What plot holes were there? As for the writing being subpar, any screenwriter will tell you that you are objectively incorrect. At this point, it isn't even funny anymore. As for character arcs. The only character arcs in this film are Bruce's and Harvey's. One of which is a flat arc, so he doesn't really change at all. Harvey has a negative arc, which is, in my opinion, shown well.
The scene where Rachel first meets Joker is the first time the actress playing her and the actor playing Alfred saw Heath Ledger in the Joker makeup. That's why their reactions are so genuine.
Bruce Wayne's Lambo in this movie is a model called "Murcielago" which the Spanish word for "bat". Even his civilian car was a Batmobile. So much for being subtle.
Fun fact, the Joker scene where he is videotaping himself with the fake batman was all improvised by Heath. Chris Nolan gave him the camera and free reign to whatever he wanted. Apparently, he even scared the hell out of fake batman while shooting the scene.
Also the interrogation scene with Batman and Joker Ledger wanted Bale to actually hit him to make it more real. During the jail scene when Gordon gets promoted Ledger improvised the Joker clapping and Nolan liked it so much he kept it in. Another thing when the Joker has Dent holding a gun to his head the Joker has his thumb between the hammer and the body so the hammer wouldn’t make contact if Dent did pull the trigger. Also when the hospital explodes and there is a little lull between explosions due to a timing error Ledger improvised hitting the remote like the remote malfunctioned. Ledger and Nolan were truly a great team.
@@johnny9000 That's not a little thing. Heath so embodied the role That I feel this movie should be used as a master class in method acting. The only person whom I feel comes close to this level is Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. Thank you for pointing that scene out, it was a phenomenal scene (but then every scene with him in it was in my opinion.
Also the scene with Joker and Rachel in the apartment with the knife was improvised, the actress who played Rachel didn't realize they were rolling yet and her fighting against Heath was real.

Nolan confirmed this to be the case in the special feature Gotham Uncovered: Creation of a Scene that was part of The Dark Knight's home release. Here's what he said: "[Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould] was able to come up with a scenario in which Heath could actually be walking out of the building because what Chris worked out is if we put in a little beat where the first set of explosions stops as if something's gone wrong, and the Joker just takes a second to look around surprised like the audience is surprised, then the major demolition comes in and he jumps straight into the school bus. In that way he was able to come up with a practical scenario in which we could actually take a principal actor, walk him out of a building that's about to be destroyed, and literally drop the building to the ground." Although the idea that Ledger managed to save a broken scene does make for a great story or piece of trivia about The Dark Knight, it is definitively not true. Not only was the scene executed exactly as Nolan and his team wanted, but it also came after extensive practice. A sequence of this size and precision could not be done well or safely without rehearsals. This way, everyone on the set was on the same page.
Ive watched the dark knight well over 150 times and can recite every single line from the entire movie lol. It is and has remained my all time favourite movie since I saw it around 2012. I love watching new people experience this masterpiece.
This movie was so good! I actually watched it opening night on iMax! No other movie will be the same! Maybe the new Avatar can match it? Here's hoping! James Cameron is a genius!
Yeah, same here. This movie and Lord of the Rings trylogy are movies which I can tell every single line from beggining to end, even after years. I watched each hundreds of times. Absolutely perfect works of art, the type of which no longer exists today
Loved both of your reactions. Every time I hear the lines "But he didn't do anything wrong." "He is the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now." breaks my heart every time. A hero choosing to be labeled the villain.
One touch that I love about this movie is that in the opening bank heist, Joker is shown admiring the sawn off shotgun as he gets onto the bus. He is then using that same shotgun when he appears at the fundraiser. He wasn't kidding about being cheap.
I don't think any scene put the fear of god into an audience more than the moment the Joker screams "LOOK AT ME!" In the video recording. You could hear a pin drop in the cinema, what a special performance Heath gave.
I remember being in the cinema and the first time I saw that scene it made me so uncomfortable but also captivated. Heath's performance truly is tremendous.
Joker having the hostages look like the bad guys and the bad guys looking like the hostages is genius and terrifying. Imagine being in a situation like that
Heath Ledger really put his heart and soul into this role. He put himself in isolation in order to experience a taste of madness. A lot of his lines in this movie are actually ad libbed. They did have a professional clown makeup artist there, but Ledger applied the makeup himself because he didn't want it to look professional; but rather that the makeup had been smeared on by a madman. In the interrogation scene, those are real punches and glass getting smashed. Ledger wanted to really embody the Joker, and laughing in Batman's face with every punch is something he felt the Joker would do. A lot of the cast and crew were actually disturbed when first seeing him, and even a few felt traumatized during scenes when he'd tell a story about how he got his scars.
This movie is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes and I swear so many lines are so quotable. The actors line deliveries are so good and is the sole reason I know this movie like the back of my hand. Obviously Heath Ledger played his role as The Joker masterfully but Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, and Gary Oldman really shine in this film too!!
What's so brilliant and sad about how Harvey rips his bandages off and screaming is that he remembered giving Rachel his coin and thinking that she's still alive and left it in his hospital room....only to see that it's burned on one side and realizing she's dead😭💔
In the comic, if Joker gonna choose a past, he prefer multiple choice all at once. That's why this Joker tells different stories to others in this film. No one knows the Joker background in the comic, is what makes it scarier in this movie. Love your reaction!
I saw a video on a theory if his origins and SUPPOSEDLY the joker is some type of ex special ops. And it makes sense because of how good he is at planning his heist, kidnappings, and bombings, his good use of every single weapon he picks up, his hand tk hand combat, how he's able to hide with such distinct scars and that one line " where a truck load of soldiers gets blown up, nobody panics" meaning he might have been a survivor of that planned explosion. Pretty cool
Plus, the different stories help perpetuate his myth as something mysterious and unknowable. The people in the room with Gambol "he said his father cut his face" but the people who heard him at Dent's fundraiser are like "I heard him say he cut his own face up." And no one really knows anything..

Some people think the guy who was going to give away Batman’s identity, Coleman Reese, was supposed to come back for the end of the trilogy as a stand in for the Riddler because I’m pretty sure it’s actually Lucius Fox that calls him “Mister Reese” like “Mysteries” and it works because Riddler’s real name is Edward Nygma, or E. Nygma like “Enigma” which was a code machine used in WW2. It would’ve been cool but I’m pretty happy that it ended up being Bane though-not to mention Paul Dano kills it as Riddler in the Matt Reeves Batman movie
Lol nah he was never in talk to be in the third. The original drafts of the third film had a joker trial pre Heath’s death. Mister Reese is just a nod to the riddler just like officer Blake is a nod Robin in the third film.

I wish I could experience this movie for the first time again.... It really is a masterpiece and I don't think any other "Superhero" movie has ever quite surpassed it.
Watching two people who literally had NO IDEA what was happening next, NO IDEA about how this movie unfolded was so satisfying. Perfect reactions, they thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated and got all the key moments. Loved watching this. 😎👍🏼
I have watched "Dark Knight" for the first time this year this summer.I am not a fan of superhero movies(And never was),but this film is truly amazing.Heat Ledger is a brilliant actor.

I always heard from the cast in interviews how truly frightening Heath was as the joker. I never really thought about it but imagine how intimidating it must have been to act along Heath in some of these scenes. Michael jail white literally said Heath would show up on set, even if it wasn't his shoot, and just be in full joker character just mumbling off in the corner by himself and just being unhinged. It makes so much sense why so many of these actors were actually afraid of him in their scenes because you quite literally never knew what he was gonna do. He lived, breathed and died as this character unfortunately 😞 rip legend

33:26 - a masterstroke by the makers of this film to create Lucius because in the old batman movies we never got an explanation as to how Batman got his gadgets... And this moment elevated my respect for him! He knew that even Batman was crossing a line here because he was spying on innocent people but knew it was for the greater good to stop the Joker! And he said to Bruce "so long as we are doing shady shit like this, I won't be on your team..."
It’s so awesome to get to experience this for the first time when it came out in 2008 and then to watch others do it 15 years later. This was one of the most hyped movies of all time. Literally a year of commercials websites everything promoting this movie. And it went above the bar and delivered.
It was such an amazing moment. I went to a midnight premiere, and i remember correctly, midnight premieres weren’t really a thing at the time so i was wondering if anyone would show up. Ours had 10 theatres all playing TDK and every single one was sold out. It was epic

@@b33fsupe Yeah, we've been initiated into the group that has seen these films. The uninitiated are the newcomers who are becoming initiated. It's a figure of speech spanning generations. I mean, I hope everyone in the comments has seen the movie being reacted to, because that's the whole fun of watching someone else react - you get to feel like you're re-experiencing it, something you can never do unless you only saw it once a long time ago and don't really remember it, or at least re-experience from a new/different perspective. I tried watching a reaction to something I hadn't seen yet, and it just wasn't nearly as fun because I had no idea what was going on.

The guy you recognized from the bank with the shotgun, William Fitchtner, played SGT Sanderson in BlackHawk Down. The Delta Operator you see with Grimes, Ewan McGregor, a lot in the film. He also did some video game voice acting in MW3.
The reason for a different Rachael is because, at the time of filming this movie, Katie Holmes was married to Tom Cruise, and Tom wasn’t comfortable with Katie playing a romantic partner to Aaron Eckhart because they played lovers in a previous film (Thank You for Smoking) which was also previous to Tom and Kate’s relationship.
Fun Fact: That one scene where Joker had Rachel at the party if you watch closely at watch her trying do hard to look away it wasn't part of script she was absolutely terrified took look at his face during the shoot 😳

Greatest movie of all time, best Batman movie, best comic book movie next to Spiderman 2 . I love the living hell out of The Dark Knight, Batman Returns and Batman Mask of the Phantasm. This was such a treat seeing it in theaters for the first time
I hear a lot of people talk about how worlds with heroes like this invited the kind of chaos their villains bring, the very strength of the heroes demanding challenge, even Marvel commented on it in the MCU, but I'm more interested in a world so dark it needs people like Batman just to counter the crazy with more crazy.
When they first announced Batman Dark Knight and that Health Ledger was going to play the joker people were pissed because they said he was going to ruin the movie but now he is one of the greatest jokers of all time.
This was one of the few super hero movies I truly like. Was never a fan of majority of super heroes but the Dark Knight was just so different that it is basically my favorite of the few super hero movies I enjoy.

Couldnt have said it better 👍 Also the inside joke between the two, since Fox knows what Wayne means by "sonar", but what do you tell appropriations for the funding? Military tech sounds better to a committee than animal experiments.
Deservedly, Heath Ledger, who played Joker, won the Oscar for Best Actor post-humously for the role. The first time ever an actor had won an Oscar for a superhero film. This wouldn't be repeated until 2019, when Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for the film Joker, where he also played the title role.
This is definitely one of the best Batman movies next to The Batman which was pretty good too awesome reaction you two. Heath Ledger joker is one of the best Joker.

Heath Ledger also improvised most of his lines for that scene, which only adds to Maggie Gyllenhaal looking uncomfortable.
So serendipitous that he had to keep licking his lips to keep the prosthetics in place... I think it's one of this Joker's creepiest quirks.
Michael Caine/Alfred had a line with Joker, but he was so baffled that Heath just took over and jumped that little dialogue!

Nolan confirmed this to be the case in the special feature Gotham Uncovered: Creation of a Scene that was part of The Dark Knight's home release. Here's what he said:
"[Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould] was able to come up with a scenario in which Heath could actually be walking out of the building because what Chris worked out is if we put in a little beat where the first set of explosions stops as if something's gone wrong, and the Joker just takes a second to look around surprised like the audience is surprised, then the major demolition comes in and he jumps straight into the school bus. In that way he was able to come up with a practical scenario in which we could actually take a principal actor, walk him out of a building that's about to be destroyed, and literally drop the building to the ground."
Although the idea that Ledger managed to save a broken scene does make for a great story or piece of trivia about The Dark Knight, it is definitively not true. Not only was the scene executed exactly as Nolan and his team wanted, but it also came after extensive practice. A sequence of this size and precision could not be done well or safely without rehearsals. This way, everyone on the set was on the same page.
Ive watched the dark knight well over 150 times and can recite every single line from the entire movie lol. It is and has remained my all time favourite movie since I saw it around 2012. I love watching new people experience this masterpiece.

One touch that I love about this movie is that in the opening bank heist, Joker is shown admiring the sawn off shotgun as he gets onto the bus. He is then using that same shotgun when he appears at the fundraiser. He wasn't kidding about being cheap.

I don't think any scene put the fear of god into an audience more than the moment the Joker screams "LOOK AT ME!" In the video recording. You could hear a pin drop in the cinema, what a special performance Heath gave.
I remember being in the cinema and the first time I saw that scene it made me so uncomfortable but also captivated. Heath's performance truly is tremendous.

Joker having the hostages look like the bad guys and the bad guys looking like the hostages is genius and terrifying. Imagine being in a situation like that
Heath Ledger really put his heart and soul into this role. He put himself in isolation in order to experience a taste of madness. A lot of his lines in this movie are actually ad libbed. They did have a professional clown makeup artist there, but Ledger applied the makeup himself because he didn't want it to look professional; but rather that the makeup had been smeared on by a madman. In the interrogation scene, those are real punches and glass getting smashed. Ledger wanted to really embody the Joker, and laughing in Batman's face with every punch is something he felt the Joker would do. A lot of the cast and crew were actually disturbed when first seeing him, and even a few felt traumatized during scenes when he'd tell a story about how he got his scars.
Bale did actually hit Ledger but he definitely pulled his punches, for legal reasons
This movie is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes and I swear so many lines are so quotable. The actors line deliveries are so good and is the sole reason I know this movie like the back of my hand. Obviously Heath Ledger played his role as The Joker masterfully but Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, and Gary Oldman really shine in this film too!!
What's so brilliant and sad about how Harvey rips his bandages off and screaming is that he remembered giving Rachel his coin and thinking that she's still alive and left it in his hospital room....only to see that it's burned on one side and realizing she's dead😭💔

In the comic, if Joker gonna choose a past, he prefer multiple choice all at once. That's why this Joker tells different stories to others in this film. No one knows the Joker background in the comic, is what makes it scarier in this movie. Love your reaction!
I saw a video on a theory if his origins and SUPPOSEDLY the joker is some type of ex special ops. And it makes sense because of how good he is at planning his heist, kidnappings, and bombings, his good use of every single weapon he picks up, his hand tk hand combat, how he's able to hide with such distinct scars and that one line " where a truck load of soldiers gets blown up, nobody panics" meaning he might have been a survivor of that planned explosion. Pretty cool
Plus, the different stories help perpetuate his myth as something mysterious and unknowable. The people in the room with Gambol "he said his father cut his face" but the people who heard him at Dent's fundraiser are like "I heard him say he cut his own face up." And no one really knows anything..

Some people think the guy who was going to give away Batman’s identity, Coleman Reese, was supposed to come back for the end of the trilogy as a stand in for the Riddler because I’m pretty sure it’s actually Lucius Fox that calls him “Mister Reese” like “Mysteries” and it works because Riddler’s real name is Edward Nygma, or E. Nygma like “Enigma” which was a code machine used in WW2. It would’ve been cool but I’m pretty happy that it ended up being Bane though-not to mention Paul Dano kills it as Riddler in the Matt Reeves Batman movie
Lol nah he was never in talk to be in the third. The original drafts of the third film had a joker trial pre Heath’s death. Mister Reese is just a nod to the riddler just like officer Blake is a nod Robin in the third film.

I always heard from the cast in interviews how truly frightening Heath was as the joker. I never really thought about it but imagine how intimidating it must have been to act along Heath in some of these scenes. Michael jail white literally said Heath would show up on set, even if it wasn't his shoot, and just be in full joker character just mumbling off in the corner by himself and just being unhinged. It makes so much sense why so many of these actors were actually afraid of him in their scenes because you quite literally never knew what he was gonna do. He lived, breathed and died as this character unfortunately 😞 rip legend

And this moment elevated my respect for him! He knew that even Batman was crossing a line here because he was spying on innocent people but knew it was for the greater good to stop the Joker! And he said to Bruce "so long as we are doing shady shit like this, I won't be on your team..."
It’s so awesome to get to experience this for the first time when it came out in 2008 and then to watch others do it 15 years later. This was one of the most hyped movies of all time. Literally a year of commercials websites everything promoting this movie. And it went above the bar and delivered.
It was such an amazing moment. I went to a midnight premiere, and i remember correctly, midnight premieres weren’t really a thing at the time so i was wondering if anyone would show up. Ours had 10 theatres all playing TDK and every single one was sold out. It was epic

I mean, I hope everyone in the comments has seen the movie being reacted to, because that's the whole fun of watching someone else react - you get to feel like you're re-experiencing it, something you can never do unless you only saw it once a long time ago and don't really remember it, or at least re-experience from a new/different perspective. The reason for a different Rachael is because, at the time of filming this movie, Katie Holmes was married to Tom Cruise, and Tom wasn’t comfortable with Katie playing a romantic partner to Aaron Eckhart because they played lovers in a previous film (Thank You for Smoking) which was also previous to Tom and Kate’s relationship.
Michael Jai White's character, the gangster who announced a reward for killing Joker, starred in his own comic book movie, "Spawn."

I hear a lot of people talk about how worlds with heroes like this invited the kind of chaos their villains bring, the very strength of the heroes demanding challenge, even Marvel commented on it in the MCU, but I'm more interested in a world so dark it needs people like Batman just to counter the crazy with more crazy.

When they first announced Batman Dark Knight and that Health Ledger was going to play the joker people were pissed because they said he was going to ruin the movie but now he is one of the greatest jokers of all time.
I watched the dark knight trilogy the first time this year and now it’s my all time favourite trilogy.
This was one of the few super hero movies I truly like. Was never a fan of majority of super heroes but the Dark Knight was just so different that it is basically my favorite of the few super hero movies I enjoy.

Deservedly, Heath Ledger, who played Joker, won the Oscar for Best Actor post-humously for the role. The first time ever an actor had won an Oscar for a superhero film. This wouldn't be repeated until 2019, when Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for the film Joker, where he also played the title role.
