Our 886 bought new from the factory had 18-4-34 rubber on the back. It’s been on the farm since 77 and is now the biggest horse still there. Dad turn it up to about 100 hp and it never had one lick of problems. Good tractor
Nice looking 886. You should probably check the vent tube, opposite of the fuel fill cap. They tend to plug up with dirt and cause the tank to suck in. Blow it out with an air compressor. Hope the tractor does well for you.
That tractor looks like it's in great shape for it's age. I think you made a wise choice in buying it. There'll be some things you fix or replace, but that's to be expected with just about any older tractor you buy. I think you got a good one.
I think you got a nice tractor, it's the horsepower you were looking for and it has a cab with working ac and heat, plus plus! I think you're gonna enjoy running it, and who wouldn't. Have a nice week!
Looks like a nice tractor. I had a 1086. Turned over 10,000 hours before I retired. The PTO is the same from a 706 to a 1486 so should be solid for 886. Fairly easy to rebuild if needed. Yes, the shifting isn't the strong point for the 86 series. As others have said, get everything adjusted properly, including the clutch and TA, and keep everything lubed. The cab ISO mounts can be an issue that causes the clutch to not be properly adjusted. They can let the cab move in the field and cause the clutch linkage to not be correct when it is correct sitting still in the shop. The aftermarket steps are a great improvement. Probably a good idea to change the antifreeze. Change the coolant filter on a regular basis. The 300 and 400 series engines were subject to cavitation erosion on the cylinder sleeves if you didn't keep the coolant filter changed. Good luck
I have both a 2-85 white and a 886 that are my primary haying tractors. Ive had the white for over 30 yrs no issues. but the 886 is my go to tractor. They say its 85 hp, but it will out perform the white fuel usage wise. I suspect that the ac on yours has had the compressor upgraded from the york syle to a rotary one and it will make a noticable difference in cooling ability. My 886 has the German 358 motor, which I had to have rebuilt about 2 yrs ago, no issues since. The added wts on the front end will be appreciated. As far as the shifting, clean the linkage, oil the linkage, grease the linkage and they shift smoothly, just remember the 3 count rule.
Man yeah, that is a sweet 886 my friend!! Really like the looks of it!! Might have to be looking myself for one to repalce the 180 😉 The shifter can be a love hate relationship for sure!! But a few good tweaks and some patience...it will work like a new one!! Thank you my friend and look fwd to seeing more on this one!! 👍🏻👍🏻
You’re right about the shifting on the 86 series. If they’re set up by someone who knows what they’re doing they shift just fine. It’s good that the AC has been upgraded to a rotary compressor. Definitely get the aftermarket steps, they make a big difference getting in and out. Looks like a pretty clean unit.
That’s nasty weather for your world! Sweet IH. The black stripes were said to be a big improvement back in those days. A buddy’s dad had the IH dealership in our hometown. 83 is a perfect size for all purpose farming.
Before you get too worried about the shifting, make sure you shoot some lube down on the shifting mechanism hitting all the pivot points. And go through the clutch and T/A linkage, also the clutch brake. I have the same tool box on my 986 and it holds my 180 lbs just fine. If you decide to put a new SMV emblem on don't bother trying to put another one on the fuel tank. I made a bracket to mount one where the top link hooks into that little shelf right there.
I believe 86 hp from the factory. We bought one new when they came out. No cab just the ROPS. Very good tractor. You will be pleased. We pulled 5 16" plows in clay with it. As others have said, keep the shifting lubed and adjusted it will be fine. Also keep the TA adjusted. They are solid. They get a bad rap, but you will see it is not the case. The rust you have is pretty normal for those tractors. I have all red tractors here and just like anything else, if you keep them maintained they will run forever.
Congrats on the new to you tractor. I have been eyeing an older Massey or IH in this size range and do almost all square bales. How well do these tractors take to the road getting to various fields. All of my fields are spread out over a 20 or so mile radius from the home farm. Currently I just trailer my 50hp tractor to save time and tires and curious as to how well a bigger tractor would work.
There ok tractors only problem is the high cost of operation. My 886 has been the most expensive tractor I own in cost per hour. Just remember it's a dry clutch and wet sleeve engine.

I believe 34’s were correct from the factory - at least from the brochures I’ve seen. Thanks for watching… 👍
Humble: that thing is immaculate- it’s outstanding for a 40+ year old tractor. Looking forward to seeing it in the field😊
@@reppfarms4493 Thanks! Hopefully it will do well once we start putting some hours on it.

@@pagrainfarmer Thanks! I’m sure once I start using it there will be repairs, etc. I think I’ve got a good “foundation” of a tractor to build-on.

That’s a nice tractor bud. I have a super A 140 230 and M on my channel. Love the IH tractors ❤

Good luck with the tractor

Nice tractor. The shifters on the left is definitely a disadvantage on the 86 series. But there still good tractors.
Thanks! I think I can get along with the shifters… 👍

Thanks for watching. Our tractors stay on the farm, so I can’t comment on how well they drive on the road.
Look forward to see how you like the 886 compared to your 1105. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

That’s a straight old IH, given the condition I would say the hours may be close to right.
Thanks!
Go big or go home!
