people just dont realize the upkeep and chores 365 days a year when it comes to dairy farming unless they were brought up on a farm, barn at 4 am milking cows and feeding calves in negative temps along with other chores
The best place in the world is in a warm milk cow barn when the weather is nasty outside... Makes for beautiful childhood memories🥰 what a great way they're raising their children. I hope the world wakes up and realizes we need to support our farm families! 🙏
Yes.. I hope things are all good with the cold... cold weather has its way of really messing things up.. thanks for sharing... hope you and your family are all safe and healthy.... keep warm... out there...
Just want to say "thank you" for your hard work producing food for America's tables. You and families like yours are the backbone of this country. God bless you and keep you all warm and the equipment running. 5:28
Good video. Educational for dealing with the cold. We got to 12 below few days ago. Warm front today 45 in western Iowa. First calf born few hours ago. Nice bull calf on a heifer. God bless
Back when I was in Wisconsin on the farm we didnt call it a polar vortex.....we just called it flippin Cold!!!.. save the waterpipes... someone needs some silver paint for those bright yellow rims.... they dont belong on that tractor... cows put out 5500 BTUs each
Will be thinking of you and your family and the farm. Hope the cold snap doesn't cause any problems for you. It is rather obvious how concerned you are especially for the animals. Having been raised on a dairy farm, I can understand the uncertainties that must be going through your mind. Hopefully you will be able to sleep with both eyes closed the next few nights. We are experiencing the same cold here in upstate New York on the Canadian border on the St. Lawrence River.
Glad to see the manure pump is working, makes, Life a lot easier. If you can, will you include in one of your videos how the wood boiler heats your water and transfers the heat for your house. I’m just interested in how it works. Cold here also in northern CT. Single digits the past few days. Wishing the best to you and your family. God Bless.
You can just bolt a piece of board on to the top of the trough, or plywood. Covering 1/3 of the trough over the section with the heater below. This will keep the heifers from reaching the cord and heater while drinking, and with part of the trough covered over, the heater won’t have to work as hard to keep the water from freezing, as the covered area will help hold the heat better. Yet the 2/3 or even half of the trough uncovered will provide plenty of access to the water for the cattle
Cold enough in Virginia we fired the wood backup heat a couple days ago, the heat pump is great till about 25F, below that gets expensive. On the chicken farm these real cold days I tried not to run any equipment I didn't need to, I can't swear there are more equipment break downs due to the cold, but it sure felt like everything was more of a fight the colder it got.
In talking with my girlfriend around Christmas, and their farm in North Dakota, she mentioned winter seemed to be the time to rest and visit neighbors after planting and harvest. Dad would be in his shed, couple of pick ups of neighbors parked outside, guys chattin'. He would buy used US government pick up cab and chassis vehicles and mount stake beds on them, paint, pinstripe the beds. Quite idyllic sounding. Again, a time to visit friends, neighbors, relatives.
Yup. I'm from south central ND, and a lot of that goes on in the winter. Drive over to the neighbors just to see what they are up to, or maybe just to be a little nosey. Lol! All of a sudden another one shows up. Lots of BS'ing, stories told, and world problems solved in farm shops. Before you know it's evening, and time to head home for supper or evening chores if you have beef cattle to feed. There are no more small family dairy farms around here anymore. There used to be a lot of them. Familes that milked anywhere from 30 to 60 cows. A few that were up in that 100 area. Unfortunately, those days are gone. Pretty damn sad that the small guys that worked hard and had good milk cows and were good operators have had to hang it up because the economy doesn't work for small operators anymore. Lots of nice big barns and silos paint the horizon that haven't seen a cow or a ton of silage for years, and never will again. That's what greed and chasing the almighty dollar have done to small farmers in America.
Great job to the new camera man👍 Try to stay warm and Hope everything goes well with these frozen temperatures. Stay well be safe and God Bless the Trinity family and farm.
This was a cold one. I just wish we had the snow cover that went down south. It will be interesting to see how far down the frost goes. Stay warm, and God bless.
Here in NYS it was twenty below this morning- a wintry January this year! Heifers and cords are a bad combo- I know some folks who lost a Guernsey show heifer when she bit through a cord. That did not have a steel coil on it- but they could probably still bite in between the coils if they worked at it! Good luck with it all.
You could sprinkle your calf pen manure into you gutter while your cleaning barn leave it in the gutter let the cows crap in then put that in the lagoon. I used to work on manure pumps and barn cleaners you can never have to much water when pumping into the lagoon. God bless
LOL - stupid heifers will not leave the tank heater plugged in. SO typical. We have a couple of heifers that think it's a joke to escape the pasture and come to the humans looking for fun. Twice today they were at the back of the house looking in (and licking) the kitchen window. Winter not too bad here. I believe the coldest we saw was only -15 for one night. No snow. Good thing we don't live in Florida. I think they've had more snow than we've had this winter.
Bei uns in Deutschland war es jetzt mal 14 Tage Frost und heute 9 C° + und Regen. Mir wäre es lieber wenn es Frost gäbe und vielleicht noch bisschen Schnee und nicht immer der Regen
Well, what you're doing is I guess real life. Pretty much a struggle. In this case a basic struggle against the cold. Getting rolling here in NE Wisconsin I was grumbling to myself about the fact I have to do something today that's I'd rather not do and it came to me that if I wasn't struggling I'd be dead. Such is life. But it still irritates me that while I'm struggling in the cold there's some old godless rich fat geezer in Washington taking advantage of everything I do. And doing it someplace where it's nice and warm. And he's using my tax dollars to have someone run to McDonalds and get his cheezeburgers for him. While he and his kids keep getting fatter and fatter while I'm getting colder and older. I've been where you're at but when we didn't have a Patz barn cleaner and shoveled out the gutters into a wheel barrel and pushed that up a plank to the top of the manure pile. Life's a struggle.
Life can be a struggle, that's for sure! But I cannot agree with your comments on president Trump and his family. They have money from the companies they built, not stealing it from the taxpayers like the previous president has done for over 50 years! When I was a kid, I saw milk prices go under 11 dollars a hundred, never thought I would see that again, but I did under Biden, and the cost of everything else I need to operate went through the roof! And as far as Godless, I would say that title belongs to Biden also, not Trump!
Stay warm and healthy, thanks for the video.
The 806 sounds good, man the extreme cold make’s everyday chores just so much harder
Stay warm Sir!
Good job! Stay COZY!

Great video!
Well it got to 21 today in NW Indiana heat wave! Been single digits for a few days here .🐃🐂🐄 😊
It's cosmetic but I'd spray bomb the yellow silver and the silver paint red when warm weather comes back

Love watching your videos, thanks for sharing. Hoping we all get a break from the super cold.
Great video. Rember those days of close to zero. Fill for you my friend. You have a beautiful family. Thanks for the ride.

Please take it easy in the cold weather. I live in Wisconsin we had -35 very ❄️🥶. Keep warm 🥵.
Be safe and stay warm
those children will be very sucessful in life because you are teaching the value of work stay cool
-27 is about as polar vortex as it gets. I ground enough feed to last about 2 weeks. Fortunately we have enough storage space for that.
Praying for your family to get through the winter ok . God Bless

It seems like that has died out around here these days. It's sad, people don't get together and visit like they used to.
Yup. I'm from south central ND, and a lot of that goes on in the winter. Drive over to the neighbors just to see what they are up to, or maybe just to be a little nosey. Lol! We call that "tryin' to kill you weather." Anything below zero qualifies.
Please be safe in the weather
Great video thanx!!
Trinity Dairy I really enjoy your videos😊😊😊😊

Thanks for your channel. It’s excellent
Always a great feeling when the barn cleaner and pump works in the winter!
Yes, you certainly can’t run one of those old corn binders down the road in high range loose steering! Up and down weather is hard on the cattle.
Good stuff guys
That was an excellent video. You have a solid camera presence. Well laid out story line too.
Stay warm. 👍
Just went through some below temps but luckily no wind here in mckean pa . Just sick of snow still have two feet on the ground. Having to pile manure
Yup, she was a cold one that week
We are very cold here in Central Indiana
hello alan and family enjoy all your videos how many cows are you milking
32
28 right now. We have one that is overdue right now, so waiting on her. Thankfully she didn't decide to calf during the cold.
How do you like the bag of chopped straw? My in laws have been bagging oat straw for years. They swear it's an awesome way of storing the straw.
It's working great!
❤😊 WHAT SALVAGE YARD ???? ❤😊
Jensen tractor in Askov MN.

Do know if you heard or not Rod Fluegge past away on Friday the 17th 71 years young
I usually do that with the calf manure, but with that sleeve being worn so bad,I want it to pump as easily as possible.
@ i understand that for sure
Squeaky walking cold ! If there isn't enough room around a feeding wagon for all the cows do they push each other around competing for a slot?
Yeah, they will.
Have you considered the use of some hard coal?
Like your videos!
I have, but this furnace isn't designed for coal.
Good luck that’s to cold for a North Carolina guy
Do you still have a deal with a rubber boot company? I am looking into some insulated ones.
Yes. At Hisea boots, you can get a discount with DAIRY15.
@trinitydairy thanks
I had some heifers giving me the same grief with a tank heater cord. I ended up clamping it to the wall next to the tank, problem solved.

Yeah, we don't have much snow, but we hit -29.
