      I think his fight scenes were my favorite in this movie. Those fight scenes seemed so brutal because it was mostly hand-to-hand combat vs Ana and/or Ryan with some weapons available. And as mentioned in this reaction, Dhanush has this natural charisma that just elevates all the different scenes that he's in.

He didn't need to fight Ana if he ultimately wanted to give back the drive. They should give this guy more action scenes in Hollywood if they say he's as good as he is.

    Even though the plot was something we’ve seen before, I honestly really liked this movie. I thought the action sequences were some of the best I’ve seen and most of the performances were good. Don’t get me wrong Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas were awesome as Six and Dani, but I thought the real MVP was Chris Evans, I just couldn’t get enough of Lloyd (hopefully sometime in the future we get a spin-off of how he became such a psycho). All in all, I thought this film was a solid 8/10.

    This movie was such a surprise. I think it doesn't deserve that low of a RT score. Is it cliched? Yes. Is it executed well? Arguably, yes. This is probably Chris Evans' best roll to date. He's such a charismatic sociopath and I love it. This movie was the ultimate modern day 90s action movie.

      @@cwilliams7630 well John Wick is a different kind of movie. At it's core, it's more steeped in martial arts filmmaking than your average blockbuster. As far as blockbuster movies go, The Gray Man is probably one of the more entertaining ones as it remedies that of those 90s pulp action thrillers like Air Force One or Die Hard just done in the modern day. Knowing what style it's emulating, the movie's a good time. Is it as good as those movies, no, but it is certainly a good thing to spend 2 hours of your time on.

    It's so much The Winter Soldier and Civil War trademark with the whole title logos and even the actions with the whole street assault that takes place with the police and the organization that's hunting Sierra Six. The action sequences are the highlights of this film and at times it felt they used Bruce Lee's fighting methodology Jeet Kun Do as the main style of fighting between Sierra Six and Lloyd Jensen. Another thing I really enjoyed was the Henry Jackman score with that crazy tempo music that felt a lot like the score from the first Terminator film. Also Sierra Four is played by Callan Mulvey who played an operative in Captain America The Winter Soldier, KGBeast in BVS, and one of the 300 soldiers in 300 Rise of the Empire. You really get a sense of The Equalizer meets The Human Target meets Safe House with Sierra Six.

    I loved this film. It’s a traditional, classic Hollywood action movie. It was refreshing that they didn’t put “the message” into it or politicize it. I also thought Ana De Armas did an amazing job and may be the new female action star in Hollywood. I thought she was a million times better at action than Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde. It was refreshing that her fight scenes were “realistic” in the sense that they didn’t have her kicking the crap out of 200+ lb men. She got her butt handed to her in almost every fight but she held her own in a “realistic” way. Two thumbs up for that! And I actually like Ryan Gosling as an action star. He has a subdued presence, makes quirky and snarky comments which don’t go over the top like Ryan Reynolds. I thought the whole cast was great. I can see why it has a 90% viewer score.

    I’ve heard some crazy reviews bashing this but it’s honestly entertaining, both leads were fun and charming and I’m really enjoying this 3rd time for me seeing Chris Evans as a villain, he plays it well. I read one review complaing about the action being over the top and how unrealistic it is that one guy just keeps taking out large groups of gunmen all while staying calm and collected…literally the premise of all 3 John Wick movies

    • @joshshobbrook9546

      @@joshshobbrook9546 does it though, personally the only John Wick film that was great was the first after that each film has just been rinse and repeat action beats. Entertaining sure, but for me they’re no more entertaining than this movie.

      @joshshobbrook9546 2 роки тому +1

      @@Wezt334 I kinda feel that way about those films as well in terms of the first one was the best one but the rest are still incredibly well choreographed, edited and it has really good cinematography and the writing is decent with very little cgi used🤷‍♂️. While this had a $200million budget and felt cheap and poorly made in some places.

    • @Wezt334
      @Wezt334 2 роки тому

      @@joshshobbrook9546 I disagree with the cinematographer, I will concede the choreographer is better but the writing of 2 & 3 is the same if not worse than this. As for the CGI, I would suggest you not do a John Wick CGI search on UA-cam it might change your thoughts on that as there was a lot especially in 3. But your entitled to your opinion, my original point was someone complaining that the action was over the top and unrealistic which is no different to a film like John Wick. Whether you think it’s better in John Wick doesn’t diminish the fact that both have over the top unrealistic action which in itself does not make a bad film.

      @@Wezt334 yeah that's fair enough I respect your opinion as well. I'm just more inclined to not like the gray man film as much because I'm a fan of the book series so I've got a whole load of reasons why I'm not a fan of the film haha.

    I think the flashbacks to Six’s father was to explain why he had a high tolerance for pain and was so calm. His father, while burning him with the car cigarette lighter, said something to the affect of taking pain like a man.

    This definitely felt tonally weird in some parts and the development was a bit rushed, I couldn't buy the girl having this connection with Six from the one flashback, but at the same time I was never expecting a compelling dramatic story. It had everything I wanted out of it. The action was intense as hell and it was a great popcorn flick

Chris and Ryan carried the movie so hard, the story was weak but I didn't mind except for the last part (Ana being caught out of nowhere and the bad guys not actually stopped when that's the whole point of the movie). I understand why Chris Evans rejected the lead role for the villain, he looked like he was having a hell of a time.

    A good couple video game references:
    When Six is falling from the plane, it is very reminiscent of the second mission in Saints Row The Third when you have through the cargo bay of an A-130 and then skydive through debris (as the plan was carrying vehicles and such).
    The final sequence is a reference to Battlefield 1, being set at Château de Chantilly, which was used as the map Ballroom Blitz. Many elements of a round of Conquest made it into the scene, including the long corridor shootouts, the destruction of an entire wall to the grand ballroom (destruction is a staple of the Battlefield franchise), the gun fights on the ramparts of the court yard and yes... rooftop campers.
