Hello from the Netherlands . I know this comment comes much later, but still. to really be able to buy in bulk : take the right size pallet , screw a playwood plate between the reels so that it is close to the bottom , place the amount of pallet rings you need , place a lid on the top pallet ring . and ready you can now buy and store a complete pallet of feed at once and because of the pallet rings you have closed sides. and when you go lower in the pallet with your feed stock you can take off rings so you don't have to bend over in a box to get to the feed
I used to use a wooden feed storage bin. It was pretty large, and even though it was in the insulated tack room, the feed molded during the wet spring and fall months. I changed over to large metal garage cans and haven't had the mold problem. I suggest you either paint or line the inside with something to keep the moisture out.
I loved watching the video, messing up the measurement on the box where the lid drops in brings back memories, like "Yes, I remember doing that myself a couple of times " . Same with the hinges , no mater how many you have laying around non will fit the project and when you do go out and buy some you still have to modify them to work. Thank you for putting videos on You Tube, I sure love watching them.
Longer hinge screws, with more meat than one layer of plywood offers. Laminate plywood or 2-by on inside to give long lasting support to hinges. Thx for your wonderful attitude regarding setbacks when building these simple projects, which always turn out to be less simple than we thought.
Hey Evan and Rebekah, great way to save on gas and sales for sure ! We enjoy watching your videos, building, gardening, hunting and cooking well just about anything you can share morally and legally 🤗 . You both do a fine job around there and figure things out so they work for you and correct your job. Keep up the good work and videos and thanks for sharing with us!!!
Evan, you need to add a couple different sized pneumatic staplers to your stash of tools. A 1 1/8” or a 1” stapler should be the right size for stapling cattle panels to posts. Much faster and easier than hammering and no more mashed fingers. If your compressor is too large to conveniently move around to support air tools for different jobs around the farm you can get a small air tank that holds 20-30 gallons capacity and just fill it and bring it to the work. Another option is to run some 1” or 1 1/2” schedule 40 PVC from the compressor to your other air storage tanks. An old 60- 80 gallon water heater that doesn’t leak is a great air accumulator. They can be found for free and most will hold up to 150-175 psi. Air tools are substantially cheaper than electric ones. 40 gallon tanks for water heaters is the most common size. If that’s what you end up with, just use several of them. They aren’t as durable as regular metal air tanks so it’s wise to stage them outside a few feet from your shop or barn so when they blow out the sudden change in air pressure doesn’t hurt you or an animals ears.
Great build. I would look around for a gallon of paint or even left over sealant from the house build. Even though the box isnt out in the weather , the humidity and such could over time cause warping issues Could also check local paint stores for mixed paint they screwed up the shade on, Lowes for example will sell a $20 gal for $5 just to get their money out of it
@@CountryViewAcres looking at the box I'd say that's a pretty easy job to knock out in under a hour . So you'd need a widow of approx 2-3 hrs when the temp was 45 or better
Nice build, should do the job against small critters like mice. However, if you start to see any rats around you'll have to beef it up. I've seen rats chew through thin metal!
Very nice work. I know what you mean by not having much time. I'm trying to get "caught up" with watching some of my favorite youtubers. It's been busy around our homestead with the well going in this week.
These building videos are great . Love watching you do a project . Good luck for the remainder of the deer season . You have a nice blind that you and your wife can sit in.
1/4 inch mesh hardware cloth and cover the entire bottom on the outside of the box, let the mesh run about 4 or 5 inches up all 4 sides and electrify it with a 12 volt power converter...excellent deterrent for rodents to stay out of the feed bags inside the storage box...lol
That looks very neat, but mice or rats will eat through it in no time. Galvanized garbage cans with TIGHT lids are the only way to keep rodents out of your feed.
We had a large sealed wooden box and the Rats nod holes in the corner. Found two old chest freezers at the dump put the feed in it and never had the problem again.
That is what I had to do. A 20 gallon can will hold 2 bags. I guess a 30 gallon will hold 3 bags (maybe 4). As I buy the bags I pour them into the cans.
There is about 1 trailer load left. But I keep adding more metal to it. I am supposed to meassage the guy when I am ready for him to get the last of it.
Totally off topic, but what happened to your drone? I’ve been watching some of your older vids and you had some drone footage, I don’t recall seeing it in any of the videos from the last few months.
the whole problem was you did not have pretty miss there to direct you and give you support. i know i cannot do anything right unless my queen is around. thank you for your humble attitude.......g

Wrapping this box in hardware cloth would be a great upgrade.

Nice. That will save you a good deal of money over time. I am all for buying in bulk and reducing the number of trips to the store. Good job Evan.

The feed box looks nice 👍🏻
There is never enough good storage!! Looks like a great project and hopefully it serves you well for years
You are so gifted. I love watching your videos and learn so much.
Great job Evan! Have a wonderful week end!
Love the dewalt tool set.... its every mans dream set
Nice work, thumbs up !!
it came out fantastic! you can pretty much build anything!!
I have one of these on my project list as well. Thanks for sharing!
Nice looking box for storing feed. I use an old chest type freezer to store feed in. Stay safe.

I almost bought some paint, but I felt it was too cold for the paint to dry. So I may paint it later.

In the middle of the underside of the lid put a brace across the middle otherwise in 2 months its gonna warp in the middle just my 2 cents
Yeah I thought about bracing the middle. I have enough wood left over to do that.
Country View Acres hope you didn’t think I was calling you out just some friendly advice
great store box, thank ya fer the tips an video
Very nice feed box
Should paint it will help it last longer 👍👍👍👍
I was going to paint it, but it has been below freezing. When it warms up I will paint it.

@@CountryViewAcres 👍 Hope you never do! 👍
Yes, I've seen heavy gauge galv metal trash cans with big rat holes in them.
Very nice work.

Glad you are getting your well put it. Sounds exciting.
Great work's. That food storage well keep out the mice.
Nice build, if mice/rats do start chewing, maybe you could wrap the box in metal. Tin or maybe corrugated metal.
that was a great idea
These building videos are great . Love watching you do a project . Good luck for the remainder of the deer season . You have a nice blind that you and your wife can sit in.
if you could can get a hold of some kind of furniture or old car trunk piston to hold it up would be super practical
Great video man! Think I might have to build one of those for my horse feed. Love the videos! Keep up the good work!
Hi..I personally enjoy the building projects you present. Keep up the good work.
Good job! Did you think about putting cross-bracing in the lid (like a big X)?
Yes, I thought about bracing the middle of the lid.
Could you fit more by standing the bags upright
I was wondering the same, cause then they could open the bags as they go to get the feed out ? I don't know, but your suggestion sounded good !
Yeah I think you get an extra bag or 2 in.
Thx
I’d put me some casters on the bottom. Maybe 😁
👍
😍😍😍
You should video your deer hunts as well.
Hello Rebecca & Evan
Get rid of the gloves while using the tablesaw, if the blade catches the loose fabric it can suck your hand into the spinning blade.

hinges put on inside use carriage bolts to fasten
Need to line the box with thin tin, mice, rats will knaw a hole through the wood..CM in Louisiana
Deer hunting----Can you get any movies etc on it?? Can be just a short........
Nice! Have you gotten a deer yet?
Rebekah has gotten a doe. But I haven't got anything yet.
i have been looking for an old freezer
Well done, Great team work. Were you able to get the metal removed from your homestead?
There is about 1 trailer load left. But I keep adding more metal to it. I am supposed to meassage the guy when I am ready for him to get the last of it.
@@CountryViewAcres Anything that can be used to reinforce the new feed bin?
I hope you don't have problems with mice or rats getting into your feed storage box
Totally off topic, but what happened to your drone? I’ve been watching some of your older vids and you had some drone footage, I don’t recall seeing it in any of the videos from the last few months.
I crashed the drone and the gimbal and camera broke off. I have a new drone now, so drone footage will be showing back up
HAVE YOU LOOKED INTO A WHEELED CART AND GETTIN BULK LOOSE FEED ANYWHERE IN YOUR AREA
What are the measurements for the sides??
Or a porch package box by your door.
Could you have drilled new holes in your original hinges? Looks to me like there was room.
I probably could have, but I preferred hinge to overlap more
Do you have a flag on the property?
No, we do not have a flag, but it would be a good addition
no sealer or paint on your new bin
I almost bought some paint, but I thought it was too cold for the paint to dry.

Just when you think you can whip something up right quick, math rears it’s ugly head 😖
rodent issues? what about humidity?
Lots of rodents like to chew through wood. I’ll give it a few years
LOL, some hardware cloth will solve that.
Rats might be able to penetrate the wood. Why don't you put some kind of metal/aluminium covering it especially in the corners.
Luckily I haven't seen any rats here.
