Sally Green I know, right? The guy's living a hard life on the bad side of the tracks, gets the short end of the stick because he's "dumb" AND the middle child, his parents die and he doesn't get to say goodbye, his brother runs away, he loses not one, but TWO of his best friends, and his girlfriend breaks up with him, possibly because of an unwanted pregnancy. "Poor kid" is an understatement.
I like this ending better. I wish they had included this in the original version with the original music. Also I wish they had included the opening scene where Ponyboy gets jumped by the Socs walking home from the movies.
Listen to Rob lowes audio book stories I only tell my friends he talks about the entire process if auditioning and the making and how it went down so good
Wildcock23 i think Rumble Fish is probably one of the most underrated movies ever. and Mickey Rourke was great as The Motorcycle Boy. The Motorcycle Boy Reigns... that ending still moves me.
This is the real ending to me. Every time I see this movie, I always remember this part. I just watched it and it ended with Dally's death then cutting straight to Johnny's letter and I was like wait... I know I didn't accidentally miss the scene between the Curtis brothers... but it just wasn't in that version. This should always be in the movie.

I just wanna give Soda a tight hug when he has his breakdown. He's so broken feom his parents dying, Mickey Mouse being sold, and Sandy cheating on him and moving away, poor baby deserves to be happy and not be so hurt. His life should be filled with joy
@@cocoistoocuteforyoy634 Yeah, I’m the books he had a horse names Mickey Mouse that he absolutely loved and saw everyday, but eventually the horse got sold off since he didn’t own it
What a gem of a scene! Too bad a majority of those audiences in the 80's didn't have this to watch! It's a shame, too. Rob did great work that no one got to see...until 2005 anyway.
You know what's worse the author of the outsiders S.E hinton said to rob Lowe after he said what happens sodapop to after and she said that he gets drafted to vietnam and dies there...
I have the complete novel film version and my parents claim there is too much crying in it and that it's "gay" they're showing emotions like normal human beings it's not gay.
Some things from the movie and book might be gay today too. I remember Darry calling Ponyboy "honey" and "baby" in the book, in one scene Soda Pop fell asleep in Darry's lap, it's just the time it took place in.
Crying is actually really healthy. It releases chemicals that help you feel better when you're done crying, and it actually releases the thing that causes stress. I never understood why people treat it like it's a sign of weakness. It's a natural response to things that make you sad.
I really wish they had included these scenes. Especially the scene of Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy. That scene where Sodapop snapped was really important because we got to see how Sodapop truly feels from his perspective. Rather in the book we got to see things like this about Sodapop’s overall character I would have liked to see the movie focus on Sodapop a little more like the book did.
This ending ain't rare. It's the original ending from the complete novel version. Cause I watched the movie with my class and it had this ending. I later found out that there r two versions of The Outsiders because I had gotten it at walmart and I didn't have this ending. This my opinion but I like this ending better than the other one.
It actually is "rare" in a way. Even though this ending has now been included in the complete novel edition of the movie, the line when Soda talks about being dumb and being okay with working in a gas station for the rest of his life is worded and acted differently in the complete novel edition.
+gracy M Yes. If you watch The Outsiders the Complete Novel Edition it has this ending and about 20 minutes of deleted scenes put into the beginning of the movie as well. There is also new music throughout the movie plus, the DVD has 2 commentary tracks. One of the tracks is the director, Francis Ford Coppola and the other track has almost the entire cast: Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, C Thomas Howell, Ralph Machio, Diane Lane, and Matt Dillon. There are some other features too I think. I highly recommend buying and watching that version as it is a much better film, in my opinion, with all of the deleted scenes added back into it.
*"IF WE DONT GOT EACH OTHER WE AINT GOT NOTHING, WE GONNA END UP LIKE DALLAS"* true quote man. Rest In Peace Patrick S. never knew he was born in Houston Texas im proud for my city NOW.
I wish this was in the version I just rented off of iTunes! I'm reading Rob Lowe's autobiography "Stories I only Tell My Friends" and this monologue was the whole reason why I wanted to watch the movie!! It's what made him get this role! I wish it was in the original version, it's so good!!
It doesn't make you sound like a bitch, it takes more to be a man and be able to admit emotion than to just pretend to be a cold heartless person. So kudos to you, man.
I was so mad when I purchased the DVD and a lot of the scenes that really tied the movie together were cut! I need to buy the complete novel version of the movie ._.
I use to hate reading until I had to read it for a school book report. Loved it so amazing it reached me when not much else could. From that book sparked a wonderful journey and a love for reading. Amazing cast of underrated actors.
That would've been a great addition to the movie, but man I would've been a wreck by the end of the movie, I mean I cry when Johnny and Dallas die, and then I begin crying watching this? This got me emotional so.
They should've never changed the soundtrack in the 2008 re-release. Just release the extended cut and this movie would've been Gold...Platinum even. Same with the deleted Intro with Ponyboy getting jumped by the Socs and the Gang coming to save him. Deleting it just made it hard to follow for those who never read the book. (I read the book in 7th grade reading class and then my teacher showed us the movie, but otherwise I would never have been able to follow this film.) Deleting the court scene in the theatrical cut just created a plot hole in the movie. They bring up Juvenile Court the day after the Curtis Brothers re-unite, but then we never see what happens. You can draw your own conclusions about it, but there's really no official closure on it. All that aside though anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet: I strongly suggest you check it out. It's a great film that really plays with your emotions and remains true to the book. (Despite the deleted scenes and plot hole.) It even had an all-star cast of actors including, but not limited to, Patrick Swayze (from Dirty Dancing and Ghost), Tom Cruise (from A Few Good Men), and Ralph Macchio (from the original Karate Kid) Oh and let's not forget that it's directed by Francis Ford Coppola (also directed The Godfather)
We read the book then watched the movie too in 7th grade but it wasn't like the hook they should have kept this seen it shows that they really love each other I want to watch the version of the movie that has all the scenes for the book!:)
Thank you so much for this upload!! I’m currently working on an Outsiders edit of the Complete Novel using the music from the original cut and I was stumped on this scene until I found this video. It’s hard to preserve since it’s an older tv airing, but it works for the part I need!
Pony runs off: aw whatever *proceeds to run away with Johnny, almost drown, stabs soc, hides in church, gets burned in church etc. Soda runs off: No the hell u ain't. *both Pony and Darry run after him then tackles him, then they have a group hug, then run off into the night together.
This will always remain as one of my favorite movies of all time. Saw it for the first time in high school for a literature class. I remember this clip. Brings back lots of good memories. Thanks for sharing :)
After all they have been through, I think the court would want to keep the Curtis family together. Sodapop was 17, and one year from emancipation as an adult at age 18. Ponyboy was 14, and it would not be financially beneficial to the state of Oklahoma to put Ponyboy in an orphanage for 4 years.
Thanks for posting this. I saw this ending twice before on CBS in the 80's. Once on the TV premiere & once on CBS Late Night. I was so disappointed, when I bought the video cassette years later & I realized that this scene was not in the theatrical version, I gave the tape away.
this is my favorite scene. it shows what i love most about the book and that's the relationship between the brothers. they're different from each other, but without each other they'd be lost. it's sweet. now i'm going to go re read the book.

I grew up with this version because my parents bought it for me when i was a kid as a present. When i found out that this wasn’t the theatrical version I felt so spoiled 😂
This is my favorite movie but I've never seen this version only the original that was on VHS then DVD in the snapper case! I know they have a blu-ray and I definitely need it. This movie has helped me through some hard times due to my handicap and sometimes I couldn't do anything besides bedrest as I have a brittle bone disease but this was a movie that I watched several times a day sometimes and it's been a movie I've had over the years and still watch but knowing there's another version is driving me crazy. I need to get it.
I wonder why the novel version didn't include the WHOLE scene because there were some parts that were a bit choppy in the novel version ending. But at least Rob Lowe got the credit he deserved for this performance!
Soda Pop has always been my favorite Rob Lowe role (close second would be Chris Traeger ofParks 'n' Rec fame). the whole movie is rightly known for its impeccable casting, and mr. Lowe truly embodies the dreamy but tough Soda Pop. Every time I revisit I'm reminded again of how effective he is at acting as the glue for a fractured family. There is another deleted scene that was removed beacuse (so I heard) of fears that pony and soda cuddling in bed might be to close to homosexuality for theaters at the time of release, but viewing the scene only portrays brothers that care deeply for one another and a bond strong enough to help through the toughest time of either of their lives. I believe the scene is included in the director's cut, and its a shame that it wasn't a part of the wider release. I highly recommend any fan of the story or Mr. Lowe watch said director's cut, as it not only follows the book more closely, but allows for a better understanding of the bond between Pony and Soda Pop. Sidenote, Patrick Swayze is also flawless as the over protective and rigid eldest brother who struggles to communicate his want to shield Pony from the outside world. maybe my favorite role of his as well.
Other than the all-star cast, the best thing about this film is the directing. Coppola worked off of a pretty pedestrian script. But his directorial style gives it a certain stylized look that other movies just don't have.
I watched this movie a few years ago back in middle school and I cant believe I'm just now finding out there were more scenes and footage. This is such a tender, heart warming scene. I know this is just a movie but GUYS, there is nothing wrong with showing that you FEEL. That you have FEELINGS and showing a little weakness, a tear, bromancing is NOT considered being a pussy or being gay. I think its so admirable when a guy isn't afraid to express his more vulnerable side. Dont bottle things in
OMG THIS REALLY MADE ME CRY! And I swear it takes A LOT to make me cry. This was the first time I cried over a video since MJ. Rob Lowe is such a good actor and amazingly beautiful. They should of kept the ending like this. It's soooooooo freaken sad! :'(
This is my favorite scene from the movie. It always makes me cry. My DVD is the extended edition so the first time I watched the movie it had all the extra scenes like this one in it. The extended edition follows the book pretty well.

That's the best comment for this video that I've read in YEARS... you should be proud! :)
AWE I wish they kept it in the movie that was adorable!
It was in the book they should have kept it!!!
And the one part where soda gets a big taking part they cut it😐😒😞
Alexa Leigh it is in the movie just depends what copy you get
Soda: dont be balling to pony one ball baby in the family is enough
Pony: i aint cryin
Me:pahhhhleas
Thanks for posting this!
Other than the all-star cast, the best thing about this film is the directing. Coppola worked off of a pretty pedestrian script. But his directorial style gives it a certain stylized look that other movies just don't have.
I'm currently reading this book in my second grade reading class and I love it
I'm crying the description
This is the way I remember it too. The "newer" ending felt like a piece of the heart missing...
They should’ve kept ALL of the scenes from the book in the movie.
This was the ending... I remember watchn it... Such a good flick. Iconic actors...
Actually it was the book ending....
ok dally is sexy, ponyboy is cute, Johnny is adorable, and sodapop is all 🥺💜
I REMEMBER READING THIS PART! THANKS FOR UPLOADING IT :D
Soda has every right to be upset
I know but at the close to the end Ponyboy was about to cry & he hug his brother to let his emotional out 😭
I watched this movie a few years ago back in middle school and I cant believe I'm just now finding out there were more scenes and footage.
Dont bottle things in
Does any one think sodapop is HOT❤❤
Yes,
A hundred times yes, soda is so cute
How you you even ask this question?! Yesss
Yeah your grandmother.
What a beautiful scene.
One of Patrick Swayze best movie. R.i.p big homie
I love this scene 🥴. This scene and many other scenes are in the Complete novel version☺️!
Soda is my favorite character. i feel so bad for him when he is crying 😢
he’s more than just a pretty face
I love when he tells darry and pony boy not to fight and they listen because fighting is killing him and it hurts him so bad
I wish they added this to the actual movie
There should be a version with it in - because when I first saw it in class, it was in there. Then when I watched it by myself, it was out.
@@SimsAllAround it was the other way around for me. My whole class was pissed with the one that didn't have this ending.
It is, on the novel version
My 2020 people where they at? I know y’all are coming back to this because it’s amazing 😉
Oh no wonder today at school we didn't see those scenes
I remember going on UA-cam and watching both versions of the movie - with the different music, of course
awww Sodapop is just adorable!!!!!!!!SODA IS BAE
This is my favorite scene from the movie. It always makes me cry. My DVD is the extended edition so the first time I watched the movie it had all the extra scenes like this one in it. The extended edition follows the book pretty well.
I cried at that part when I atched this for class
This scene made me cry u can tell how broken Sodapop was 🥺
