I've been a fan of Parliament Funkadelic since the 70's. Lots of talent in that band.

It is a longer song. The album version I'm used to has probably three minutes more of an outro that includes a really fantastic lead vocal where he just fully loses it (in a soulful way) "I'm just gonna sit right down here and this ground and wai-ai-ait!" as the whole thing just builds into a ridiculously funky jam that fades out while it's still rising in intensity. Track it down, totally worth it.

Yeah, it was cut short, for some unknown reason, on the remastered CD.

Eddie Hazel was a guitar beast! He screams on the track "Red Hot Mama" from Standing On the Verge. Their big hit was "Tear the Roof Off the Sucka" from the Mothership Connection album.

From about 1969 to 1974 you can't go wrong with any of these rock influenced Funk bands...Funkadelic, Isley Brothers, Cameo, Bar-Kays, Con funk shun, Slave, Brass Construction, Narada Michael Walden, Mandre, Ohio Players, Curtis Mayfield, Temptations, Parliament. Thanks for the reaction. 'Funk is it's own reward'

Funkadelic had a fantastic run of albums in the 70s. Super-proggy on top of the funk. Though run, do not walk to Maggot Brain. ESSENTIAL LISTENING.

One of Eddie Hazel's crowning moments is Maggot Brain, a gorgeous psychedelic guitar workout. I was lucky enough to hear him perform it in September 1992 in New York City. The band's performance that night was so intense that exhausted crowd just sat down, everyone literally sitting and laying around on the floor of the club (I think it was the Ritz) after a huge climax of dancing. At that point, the lights went down low and the band played Maggot Brain, which you will love, Justin. It seemed like everyone was in the same moment. The performance later ramped back up in intensity to where everyone was on their feet and it felt like the building itself was shaking. Eddie Hazel died of liver failure a few weeks later.

MAGGOT BRAIN should be your next funkadelic track !!!

Here's a guitar oriented piece you might like from around the same time. It is the almost 12 min. "Prince Of The Sea" from RTF drummer Lenny White's first solo album from 1975. It starts out really slow, and then develops into a guitar dialogue between Larry Coryell (1st solo, etc.) and Al Di Meola (2nd solo, etc.) :

Reminds me a bit of early Springsteen. Jazz/Funk/Rock hybrid. It’s too bad that the mid seventies Disco craze basically made Funk a niche genre.

@@JustJP Nothing specific, nothing I can point to and say "This. This is what I don't like." I dislike any music like this. It does nothing for me. I think it sounds plodding, lazy, just the same very basic sound going on and on and on. And then when some "vocalist" starts wailing as if he (or indeed she) thinks he/she's the greatest voice in the world but really it's just painful to listen to (more negative points if they start doing vocal gymnastics)? Oh hell, just put a sock in it, please!
It's not emoting to me, it's not being soulful for me, it's just torturing me. And it gets the "Skip, dammit! Press skip already, Adny!" treatment every time.
(Sorry to anyone who genuinely likes this stuff, but I WAS asked.)
