Chills when I heard til one day you was found hung dead in the cell.. it was plain to see that your life was lost you was cold and your body swung back and forth… No rap today can give you those chills
I appreciate how you paying homage to the old school. Alot of people your age aren't even really ope to diving in the the old school gems. Keep doin' your thing babygirl!
I was 21 when this song premiered! I was a nurse in the Army and this song was played daily for years! ……I feel it’s the number 1 original rap song as millions of other rap lovers feel the same way………and 2nd rap is Sugarhill Gangs , Rappers Delight.❤️
Melle Mel is cedited with THE MESSAGE but my favorite by Melle Mel & The Furious Five was Beat Street Breakdown in 1984. From the movie Beat Street. I went to the movies to see Beat Street in 84' I was 11 yrs old in 1982. I had this record. I have played piano sice age 4 in 1975. I am 51 now. I had Sugar Hill Gang records from 1979 when i was 8 years old. My dad collected records so i started collecting in 1977. I miss school talent shows in the 70s & 80s both middle and high school. Shout out Class of 1989 !!!!!
I remember listening to this song and planet rock in 1982. Planet Rock was the song that made me fall in love with rap music. It's still one of my all time favorite songs.
First rap song I ever heard. I was 12 and was hooked for life. I had grown up in the inner city and when I was 11 years old we moved out to the middle of the country. I felt very out of place. Then my best friend found this album and her parents were out of town and she played it and it felt like home!
At that time in Germany we didn't know what rap was until Grandmaster Flash was played in German discos. Absolutely good music and sounds at that time. Greetings from Heidelberg / Germany
Hey great trophy classic 1 up HUGE SHOUT OUT To all my Brothers and Sisters in N.Y.C. especially to the Bronx 3rd avenue, Fordham rd. ,The grand concourse, Patterson projects 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🤎🖤
I was 14 years old when "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and Furious 5 played on WBLS, WRKS and WKTU radio stations on a daily basis. Still love ❤️ the joint now like I did back then! 41 years later, the song is relevant now as it was back then. Thank you for the reaction.
This one going way back. One of the first Rap tracks I heard where I was like "Damn, Hip Hop is what's up!" I feel like popular Rap is more like Pop music now rather than Hip Hop but at least the culture still lives on. Good to see the new Skool can still appreciate this classic.
@@waligibson240 Yo, I didn't think that deep on it till I read your comment but I'd agree. Honestly, I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head that comes close. I thought "La di da di" by Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick but considering the lyrical content of "The Message" had to say that doesn't come close either. 🤔🤷🏾♂️
Reminds me of theTemptations Masterpiece, I think on the vinal they all get arrested at the end as well, hah mabe Flash was throwing a bit of a tribute their way. The Message, mad track good react liked subscribed
The Epidemy of hip hop. When I used to go to yhe jams in the parks back in the days and you could hear this jam from blocks and blocks away. Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5 are some of the fouders of Hip Hop. they paved the way. Salute to them cause with out them there would not be Hip Hop. They were doing Hip Hop Before There Was Hip Hop Records.
Way to make a man feel old 😂 I loved this track when it first came out. I knew every single word and still do. Sat here listening and singing along This goes back to a time when blacks truly had issues rather than the perceived issues the media pumps nowadays
This was in 1982- so this is the 40th anniversary of a legendary song and as people have said- rap/hip hop slowly started to change after that- check out New York, New York(big city of dreams)
stumbled across this, i was just starting high school when this dropped. "The Message" back then was a cry for equality in a way, but it was also a warning to the next generation (us, Gen X'ers) on what could happen if the cycle of lost generations isn't broken. there's a lot to be learned from Flash and the 5, even for a hardheaded white boy from the country like i was then, while i couldn't understand the "Black experience" for obvious reasons, this and other similar music made me aware of there being a difference in perspective. you have to be aware it exists to be able to try to understand it. Flash and Cash (two major influences for me) probably as diametrically opposite as any two artists can get, would probably understand each other more than most folks these days would believe. good music makes you think.
The first conscience rap. Melle Mel and Flash. Game changers. They had a lot of hits. White Lines . Scorpio . It's Nasty . Step off rap . To name a few.
This is an BONIFIDE CLASSIC!!!! the song is actually the only rap song Archived and cataloged in The Library Of Congress National REgistry for its impact on American Music
This is one of the most significant songs of the last 30 years. The social conscience message was like the Bob Dylan of hip Hop you know what I mean and unfortunately it all went in a different direction.
The message is nice but everyone forgets some of the best other songs. For example: Freedom, Nasty, The Adventures of Grand Master Flash, New York, New York, Beat Street, Step Off,, etc. Then you also have Funky 4 Plus 1. Dammm Gina
...that last verse. Mercy.
This came out in 1982 and is still relevant for today. This song is the very definition of timeless
Still hard🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
and what happens when you vote for democrats...check out "in the ghetto" by Elvis
Or a failed System
That last verse is one of the greatest verses in hip-hop history!! back when it was rappin and tappin....
Chills when I heard til one day you was found hung dead in the cell.. it was plain to see that your life was lost you was cold and your body swung back and forth…
No rap today can give you those chills
How you lived so fast and died so young 😢
The more things change the more they remain the same
This is 1 of the most important raps of all time. Everybody listened. Life is the Bronx NY
Born and raised in the South Bronx. Made my break after high school and ended up helping to spread democracy in SE Asia. 😉
😂😂😂 LOL" Everywhere you go your going to smell some piss." You said with a straight face.I busted out laughing.😆😆
I appreciate how you paying homage to the old school. Alot of people your age aren't even really ope to diving in the the old school gems. Keep doin' your thing babygirl!
She's one of the best. A lot of our music is ignored on some of the other channels.
And P.S. I’m now. 52 year old white lady. I just love your energy and love of music. Music is life!
I was 21 when this song premiered! I was a nurse in the Army and this song was played daily for years! ……I feel it’s the number 1 original rap song as millions of other rap lovers feel the same way………and 2nd rap is Sugarhill Gangs , Rappers Delight.❤️

The greatest song in hip hop history. Everything that came after was influenced by this. The mentality of survival.

This song turned an English suburban school boy into a B boy
The social commentary on this track is phenomenal !
GMF also have another song call New York New York with a similar message. Both songs are still relevant to this day. Especially now.
You Have to do New York New York by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five another great song with equal social commentary.facts🌃🌃🌃...💯💯💯
Peep at the end when he say you know we are Grandmaster Flash and the cop say who's that a gang
Still probably the most important song in hip-hop today.
