Amazing how the AF/MF focus switch has become such a rarity nowadays that it became a feature. I remember the days shooting with DSLR cameras and almost all lenses have those.
Love your video man... Can you please do a video detailing your SLOG3 settings and color grading process in one video or in parts if not already done....thank youuuuuuuu
huh? The switch is because the lens has macro capabilities hitting the switch adjusts one of the elements internally for macro shooting. Its not an auto focus distance switch.
I have the Batis 18 and 135. The 18 isn't amazing and frankly the 24 GM is much better to my eyes. However....the Batis 135 is magical. I forget that magic, thinking I Need to get rid of the 135, until I use it. Is the 40 like the 18 or the 135? I have been wanting to reduce the weight of my kit from the heavy Sigma lenses to something that makes me want to go out and shoot again.
hey , very nice content . I have 1 question , i have to buy a 40 mm focal for my work and the thing that matter the most is the autofocus . Do i have any other option in this range ? sony 40 2,5 no it is not good in the autofocus , samyang ? nah . sigma ? too havy
I've never used other 40mm lenses before, so I'm not sure which is the best. But if you want a secured AF, Tamron 20-40mm is good although it's a zoom lens.
How many times have you been in a lane way composing your shot. The 35 takes in to much, and the 50 is far too tight. And correcting either, looses the shot.
The Zeiss Batis 40mm 2.0 may be very good, but I have the much better Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which have outstanding optical image quality and it is small, compact and built like a tank, I can very highly recommend the Voigtländer which also have an aperture ring.
@@auxmike718 The Zeiss Batis 40mm is autofocus in Sony E mount, he Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical are manual focus like all other Voigtländer Lenses, it have Sony E mount with electronic contacts, so there are focus help in the Camera !
40mm is really close to how the human eye sees the world. Definitely one of my favorite focal length.
Thank you for a great review! The Zeiss Batis lenses render in a way no other lenses do. The character and the pop are priceless.
Thank you for taking time to do this video Kensei. It was very helpful in understanding the lens and I appreciate your sentiment.
Thanks for digging in!!
This is a pretty sick lens. Picked up the 85 1.8 zeiss, And now im wanting to check out their other focals.
I love to use this lens for fashion photography on the Sony A7III! I generally rent this setup, but maybe one day I'll buy it!
Great review mate!
Nice!
I can imagine how Zeiss lenses are great for a fashion photo!!
Been holding off getting the 85mm Batis, thanks for the sweet video I just ordered it.
You should have gotten the new Sigma 85mm DG DN
Good choice!

Exactly!
It is a “C” button away, I have a few lenses with such Switch…. I never ever used it.
In the production of the lens was used led, that is why it has contrast

Hi Kensei, great video. I got a secondhand copy of this lens, but the focus sounds is significantly loud. Is this normal?
Yeah, its AF is loud
@@KenseiAkatsu thanks Kensei.
How about the LOMO OKS 40mm 2.5
I didn't know that.
I'll check it out!
@@KenseiAkatsu it even covers full frame. Most Lomo OKS series 1 cover super-35 only but they are my favorite lenses.
Amazing vid!
Thank you!!

I've never used Batis 18mm, but this gives you something special that Sigma or Tamron can't give.
Muahahahahaha haha!
My Japanese brother is drooling so much, he can barely speak.
Bwahahahahahahahaha!

Not making my life easier here, I was decided on this, then went heavy on the loxia 2/50, now back to this again 🤣
This is at a really good spot!
