Which deli do you feel deserves to be #1?
2nd Ave in NYC. Katz’s is only for tourists. Who makes your lists?
Shapiro’s is next level, never quite seen anything like it
Katz deli; manhatten/ny ,& stage deli, west bloomfield
Star deli, southfield, mi
Zingerman's - Ann Arbor - I wish I had some now. Their Rueben is iconic and thick, but their chicken sandwiches are slapping
My Cardiologist called and yelled at me for watching this video. I think I will go to Slyman's for lunch today.
first thing to do is to bring a container and place 14/15 o the meat inside and eat 1/15 of the meat at restaurant. and use the rest of the meat for the next 2 weeks....... how much meat do you need in one sitting. no more than 3/15
Heart attack
🤣🤣🤣💯
YOLO!
Excellent comment my friend. Happy Thanksgiving (perhaps with a side of pastrami)
When I was a kid - before all the chains - I would either go to an independent sub shop or the Jewish Deli. Two blocks distance. Absolute heaven. Thanks.
Love love love Slymans in Cleveland!
Slyman's and Danny's on St. Clair are my favorites.
Glad Slymans is getting the love for my city. When I got back from deployment first spot I went to was Slymans.
Slyman's and Danny's on St. Clair are my favorites.
@@rking3724 man when I was at CSU id walk after class on Friday get a jawbreaker walk right back to my dorm and chill
I used to work on Hamilton Avenue about 2 blocks from Danny's. I probably went there at least 3 times a week.@@DevontaTravis
its MY city
Zingerman’s Deli in Ann Arbor, Michigan absolutely belongs on this list. It’s not any ordinary deli but a not so hidden gem that goes to extraordinary lengths to source ingredients from around the world. Katz’s definitely belongs first up on the list though, as does Langers. But Zingerman’s is not to be missed.
I am a legit expert of the subject....you are not lying. I'm lucky that its 20 minutes away....so much better than those bigger is better joints. Tells you its cheap corned beef.
@@ElectroOverlord That's not much of an expert. I'm 5 minutes away. Oversized, overpriced, and overrated. If you want a good Jewish deli in Michigan go to the Stage.
Yes, i still live 20 mins from Ann Arbor and used to work in Ann Arbor. Went there for lunch at least once a week. Top notch. Some great delis in Southfield and Oak Park as well.
@@gatedancer17 Haven’t tried the Stage, will check it out next time! That said, I did agree with you in the past about Zingerman’s (and still agree it is overpriced, they have great marketing) but later changed my mind on the overrated: they do go to great lengths to maximize quality, and it is why they are recognized by foodies nationally who otherwise would not have Ann Arbor on their lists.
@@gatedancer17 if you limit yourself to just looking at a sandwich you are missing so much more of the place. I am fully aware of all of Detroit's Jewish Deli history (Its a the twice baked rye as the secret).
Yet I only wrote the rules for Charcuterie Masters, Been written up by First we feast and a bunch of other crap...but you keep rocking on.
I've only eaten in two of these: Katz's and Manny's. Grew up in Brooklyn and loved going the Katz. Amazing food. Had business at University of Illinois Chicgo and Manny's was recommended. WOW!! Food was excellent and the banter of the men behind the counter was hilarious, just like the NY delis. Whether with customers or among themselves their chatter added so much to the ambiance.
You got to come in Montréal to Schwartz smoked meat restaurant. Simply the best...
When my buddy and I would go to Colts games in Indianapolis...Shapiro's Deli was a real treat before the game! The food and old school atmosphere are top-notch!
Yes!! I forgot about Shapiro's. Went to the Peyton vs Eli Sibling rivalry game with my brother and we ate at Shapiro's. Great food.
My home town.
I’m so lucky that I live close to Harold’s in Edison. I go there a few times a month and it’s always worth it.

👄 Hey 🙋🏽♀️ neighbor I have property in Woodbridge 🙂
I've lived in the greater StL area for many years, and hadn't heard of Gioia's before this video. It's now 2 hours later, and I'm STILL saying DAMN, that was a good sandwich.
I'm getting hungry for a deli sandwich ,now 😋
Yeah! Thanks a bunch, Mashed…
Two great New York Delis that made great deli. Carnegie and Second Avenue, both no longer exist. But I used to go both of them. And I plan to finally try Sarges.
I used to go to the Carnegie deli. I really liked there sandwiches.
Second Ave was great. I live on the UES and then on 47th and 2nd for 10 years and would hop in the car and head down to get once a month. Sarge's is ok
I stood on line for 4 hrs to eat @ Carnegie the week they closed. Well worth it! 🎃
I lived a couple blocks away from the 2nd Ave Deli years ago. I'm sad to hear that it closed. After hearing about the Gem Spa (best egg creams in the City) closing, I guess anything is possible.
@@sarafstop32 those were good egg creams
You missed Zingerman's in Michigan, awesome place. Manny's is a great choice, but there are so many good delis in the Chicago area, they could be a list of their own.
so true about chicago
Zingerman's is an overdone pretender. But what you gonna do......GO BLUE!
The best deli - before they went out of business - was The Carnegie Deli.
RIP Carnegie Deli
Those of who truly love deli miss you!!
👁 👁
👄 Been to Carnegie Deli 6 times food always good🥪 😋😋gonna be missed for sure😔
Carnegie was the best of best Katz is second best sarges has the best pastrami
The one in Vegas was pretty good too!
Is there a Carnegie Deli in Vegas at one of the Hotels?
@@michaellalli7693 there used to be one in the Mirage. I think it’s closed now. There was a Canter’s in Treasure Island that too is gone. Both were pretty good.
Brent's Deli in Northridge, California...Art's Deli in Sherman Oaks, California
I was shocked at how bad the matzo ball was at Arts. Not the broth, the ball itself. Great pastrami tho. Brents is top notch
Slyman's. damn right. REALLY good corned beef.
Slyman's and Danny's on St. Clair are my favorites.
Art's Deli in Studio City and Canter's on Fairfax are my favorite in L.A.
Proud to see Gioia's and St. Louis mentioned!
At Harold's, their "neesh" may be good, but I'll bet their "knish" (pronouced "kuh-nish") is even better. Unless that's just a niche menu item
I came for this comment!
@@captaincrunchey I think it's ignorant.
@@jayscholl4193 🤣
@@jayscholl4193 not everyone would get it; it's kind of a knish observation.
Next time have em make you a pastrami knish😉
Star Deli in Southfield, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit) is a great deli with delicious corned beef sandwiches, etc.
I live in Southfield, I'm wanting a Good Reauben
❤️ star deli , pastrimi & cornbeef, sandwich, great cashiers
The pickles
Star deli got great grill chicken sandwich too & super great cornbeef & pastrami sandwich 🥪
I can vouch for Slyman's on St Clair! One of the best Corn Beef sandwiches in the country!
Worked on E31st for a few years. Weekly visit to Slyman's was a given!! Had I been paid better it would have been daily !!
I checked the comments for Slymans. Here, here!
FACTS💯💯💯
Danny's on ST Clair down the street comes in a smoove second.
Slyman's and Danny's on St. Clair are my favorites.
In Arizona, you got Miracle Mile Deli, and Chompie’s, both worthy of this list.
Went to nyc for the 1st time in august and have to admit sarges deli on 3rd avenue was awesome by far my favourite pastrami sandwich I had in NYC
Very fond memories of Katz in the 50’s, matzo ball soup, corned beef or ruben with sauerkraut and pickle on the side. Being in uniform the kraut and pickle were gratis.
Loved the place and the folks who operated the establishment, very generous.
My goodness I forgot to mention the pickled tongue.
Its a diffrent wourld now its staffed by mexicans and they give you two or three slabs of meat on stale bread at a ridiculous price..
@@mikewilliams9889 That’s the way of the world today, just saw on the news, the San Francisco council is debating whether or not too fire the election director because he is a white male.
When I was at Katz, they hand sliced the bread from an enormous boule of Jewish Rye. Oh Well.
Kraut & Piclkes are always free in NYC Kosher delis
Even though it didn’t make your list, we are grateful to have Sherman’s Deli in Palm Springs.
Those look delicious!!
Australia sure could learn something about making a sandwich!
Can’t be as bad as London! ;)
Katz's is the only reason I can think of that would compel me to visit NYC!
Then don't. It's a total tourist trap.
@@hfhifi6878 total tourist trap and utterly amazing. people who dont like nyc are weak humans with no class
@@hfhifi6878 Given that Katz's hasn't changed since the 1950"s (except for the prices) I'd hardly call it a tourist trap. You don't have to like it but it's the real deal.
@@emintey Not true. All the tourists go because of the orgasm scene in "When Sally met Harry". It's the only Jewish deli the know about. They have a friggin sign hanging from the ceiling to point out the table. The last time I went with a friend (8 years ago?), he whispered to me "I think we're the only Jews here". I think he was correct.
A friend of mine used to live in New York City, and he made a point to his friends who came to visit him to at least pay a visit to Katz's Deli. The sandwiches and soups are amazing, according to my friend. And they usually take him up on paying them a visit.
It's a total tourist trap: New York Jews go elsewhere.
@@hfhifi6878 They don't go far enough. Out of the country would be nice!
@@michaelgates7178 Unless I’m reading this wrong, this sure sounds racist.
@@michaelgates7178 : Wirklich, Herr Gates? Warum hast du das gesagen?
Your reply is absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed
All the sandwiches looks great and delicious and taste great I believe ☺️
THANK YOU, YOUR THE BEST
Molinari's is wonderful, glad they are on this list as they should be.
Shapiros is great!
In the category of great delis that are gone: Belden Deli in Chicago was my favorite. It closed about 20 years ago and I still miss it.
Good thing we still have Manny's,
Best corned beef in the world.
Awesome !!!!!
David’s on Geary Street in San Francisco has the best meatball sandwich, the best barley soup and the most divine pastries imaginable!
I can vouch for Harold’s as being fantastic. I don’t live anywhere near New Jersey but visited once and it was fantastic. I will remember that sandwich forever.
Some complain about the price, but the smallest serving which was $29.99 easily feeds two and the pickle bar is great! Love that claremount salad.
im about to start working there, kinda nervous it wont be busy... was it busy when you were there?
Pleased to see Kenny & Ziggy's on this list!
Absolutely. The amount of menu items alone, is worthy of notice.
Wilmington NC!!!!!! awesome to see a taste of Italy on here
Nobody beat's KATZ! this place has the best pastrami sandwich.
Shapiro's. It's the rye bread they use. Fragrant, soft, crusty. It just elevates the pastrami, corn beef or smoked tongue to the next level.
Harold’s is amazing
Not one mention of a good lox, cream cheese, and fresh bagel! I was surprised!
Nothing to be surprised about
We have a great deli in Indianapolis, Shapiro’s. An institution for over a century. I initially didn’t think this wasn’t going to be mentioned in this list. But as they say, they’ve saved the best for last. But this best list has no real particular order.
Here here
I've been there. As a New Yorker, it have to give it a thumbs up.
Thank you! I usually go to Shapiro's at least once a month if not for the Matzo Ball soup, corned beef or roast beef, but also the desserts. Incredible. It's a great place to go before a Pacers game.
There can be good places in some unexpected locations.
Shapiro's has an outlet in the Indianapolis Intl Airport! Outstanding pastrami on rye for those waiting for a flight.
Absolutely 💯
I live near Indy. Shapiro’s is great! Corned Beef Sandwich on rye with a side of their unique mac-n-cheese is all I get and all I can ever eat. The Sandwiches are piled high. I usually walk out with a loaf of their rye bread if they have any left.
Sandwhiches are overrated. Slymans blows Shapiro's out of the water so does Danny's (Didn't make the list but definitely competes with Slymans) in Cleveland.
Shiloh's in San Antonio!!!! A true long time classic, and it's totally legit.
You missed Hobby's Deli in Newark, NJ. Family-owned and operated with terrific food. In addition to excellent pastrami and turkey, they have great tuna salad. The dining room has wood paneling on the walls, formica tables and red vinyl chair. You can't get much more classic than that.
Yummy yummy
So what is Canter’s Deli... chopped liver?
Canters rate higher than that attitude ridden Langers.
Right?
Nice to see Gonella's on the list. In the heart of an old Industrial area of Detroit, it's near the Marathon Refinery, the Ford Rouge Complex, and multiple other smaller industrial businesses. Every day at lunch you see workers in sooty coveralls with the oval name patch, and others, lined up for a sub. You order by the number of layers of meat.
I've probably had hundreds over the years - 6 layers of meat - and still haven't learned that you can't eat it while driving without making a mess of shredded lettuce in you car.
LANGER'S is the best! Old school as it gets when the MacArthur Park/Westlake area of L.A. was mainly Jewish. The difference in LANGER'S sandwiches is the Rye bread. They are known for the # 19 🥪 but the other sandwiches are just as good. Oh, and the Pastrami Chili Cheese fries and Potato Pancakes are not too shabby either.
Langers is probably the best in LA, but I have a soft spot for Canters also. I like their Old Hollywood vibe.
The rye bread is made by Bea’s Bakery in Tarzana.
In Seattle there is also Zylberschtein's up in the Pinehurst neighborhood. I've been to Katz and it does have the best Pastrami Sandwich in the world, but Zylberschtein's is a close second in my book.
LOL no it doesn't. Langer's in LA has the best pastrami, even East Coast publications have said as much.
Harold’s rule!
Glad Slymann's was mentioned for Cleveland but I prefer Superior restaurant...
I concur.
Slyman's and Danny's on St. Clair are my favorites.
Lived in LA for 3 years and never went to Langer's. Kicking myself. I went to Canter's, but not Langer's. I'll have to go one day.
Katz’s is one of my all time favorite delis… Harold’s is a close second! 👍🏼👍🏼🤩
Have you ever been to Chompie's Deli in Arizona? They are a family business simce 1979. Their portions are huge, as named Mike high sandwiches. My favorite is the pastrami. They also have fish, breakfast and a bar. Delicious.
Centre Street Deli is indeed still there! And still great!
Shapiro's is absolutely amazing.
I haven’t had really good Jewish deli food since I left Da Burgh. Mmm, cabbage soup, big thick Reuben, garlic kosher dill, blueberry blintzes! Can’t beat it!😊
By Da Burgh, do you mean Pittsburgh? Yum !
@@conniecrawford5231 yep! Though my fave deli there, the Gazebo in Shadyside, has closed. Best cheesecake on the planet, used to drive 2 hours there from Cleveland for it!
What's on a Reuben? Is it superior to corned beef or pastrami?
i know this might sound weird, but Elwoods Shack in Memphis TN. insane awesome.
I was glad to see Harold's in edison nj listed. It's delicious.
Attman’s Deli in Baltimore.
The Langers pastrami sandwich with set you back $18 today-11/04/22.
Rein’s Deli in Vernon, CT deserves recognition on anyone’s top ten! Just because the town is small doesn’t mean the food isn’t great! How can you even attempt to limit the scope to ten? If you didn’t taste it you shouldn’t exclude it.
Attman's in Baltimore is pretty darn good. Amazing corned beef.
Defontes sandwich shop in Brooklyn should be on this list . Best Italian deli in NYC
Herschel’s in Reading Terminal in Philly amazing !
Famous 4th st Deli in Philly is great!
We did a lot of work at essene market before Howard sold . Would always hit up famous deli around when there . Between the Jews the Italians the Greeks the Espagnol and China town Philly has all the worlds favorites . The there was Levis and a cherry champ old building also ,child hood memory with my Pop , that turned vegan pizza which is actually pretty good also , hell I just love food.
4th St is the real deal, I live 2 blocks away from it. Pastrami is my fave.
@@briand2614 nice go to with Spicy mustard ? The cakes and cookies always crack me there humongous .
Houston has a Katz’s on a street called Westheimer and I only went there once because it is crazy busy at lunch. I was staying at a hotel nearby during Harvey in 2017 and I went there for dinner…it took them 30 minutes for a to go sandwich, at 8PM (it was worth the wait but).
Philippe's in LA should be in this list
OMG Phillipes!!!👍👌😋
Not even close
I lived in NYC, not far from Katz Deli, and ate there many times. I had to say that to give credibility to a Jewish Deli in Youngstown, Ohio, believe it or not. It's Kravitz Deli on 3135 Belmont Ave. It's a multi generational family establishment, started in 1939. It's well worth the 70 miles drive from Pittsburgh to enjoy this Deli!
Canters in L.A was left out of this list!
Because someone else in the comment section said it went out of business
@@wildlifewarrior2670 It's still going strong.
@@bsheinberg1 yea I looked it up it's still there
Canter's in L.A. is opened and around for decades, however authenticity is at Katz's by far...my Dad's employment and mine provided flight benefits...so while traveling around USA, I had a jewish deli at every port....Enjoy wherever you get deli delights...
If you've never had a hot salami sandwich from Gioias then you are missing out. Every single person I've taken there becomes obsessed.
@Mashed Clearly you have never heard of Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Number 2 on this list at Slymans looks the best, like how the corned beef is sliced thinner and stacked then at Katz`s or others.
The best deli I ever ate at was the Centre Street Deli in Thornhill, Ontario, just north of Toronto. Their Montreal smoked meat, cole slaw, potato salad and cherry strudel were "to die for." I don't know if it's still there.
Yup, still there
Crap. Rainbow meat with holes in it.
I’ve been to Manny’s, Langer’s and Cass Street in Tampa. I really wanna do Katz in New York.
Harold's is my spot
Mines also.
Criccas Italian in Woodland Hills California is pretty good. I always stop there when I’m in LA.
I've eaten at Harold's for over 30 years. 12 egg omelettes, matzoh balls the size of softballs, and layer cakes well over 14" tall. I"m not even mentioning the humongous sandwiches and all the accoutrements. It's a Ripley's Believe It Or Not type of place.
2nd best is black forest ham! YUM
Dearborn market near Holmdel nj is great too.
Only mentioning Langer's Deli in Los Angeles is a vast disservice to the robust deli culture in this town. Angeleno Jewish deli lovers also love Brent's, Cantors, Nate and Al's, Art's, Wexler's, and Greenblatt’s.....while LA's Italian deli fanatics go for Eastside Market, Mario's, Marconda’s Meats, Claro's, and Cortina's.
Agreed, but in Orange County gotta hit Kattella Deli !
Yes I agree, they knew she was coming and it was time to show case a bigger sandwich on tv to get people in. We had a business down the street from Canters, small world.
I loved Canter's Deli in LA. If they are open they deserve a spot on the list.
The Radin’s didn’t Found or Open The Famous 4th Street Deli in Philadelphia in 1923!! It was 4 Auspitz Brothers from Philadelphia!!
It seems this video was more concerned with getting deli representation from all over the country. When in fact, the best deli’s are in NYC, New Jersey, and Philly. I’ve traveled all over the US.
Not true
For those of us in Las Vegas, the one to go to is The Bagel Cafe. Excellent food, bakery, no long lines when you're hungry.
Harold's deli in Edison NJ is insane, I work nearby their portions are almost comical.
Quantity doesn't equal quality
@@JimmyBlues99 oh it's delicious don't worry
You totally missed one of the best opened in 1967 Brents Deli with the BLACK PASTRAMI REUBEN
Brent’s is as good, if not better, than Langer’s. Definitely a huge oversight.
👍
Safe Journey!
CHOLULA!!!
Landis pork store and pastosa in Brooklyn NY are great Italian places.
Slyman’s has excellent corned beef. The best I’ve had since Alfred’s in Houston closed years ago.
Katz’s is still great, I grab a Rubin to go when ever I’m in alphabet city nyc. Wash it down with a chocolate egg cream 😮😊
Who every is reading this if your in Cleveland s Lyman’s is DA TRUTH I live in Cleveland and they ALWAYS have a line out the door even in winter place is bomb AF
Ok, Mashed. After watching this video and I lived in NY for a few year and moved back to DFW, TX.. I have a challenge for you.. Where can I find those sandwiches in DFW, TX.
If anyone is in jersey , Hinze’s deli on Harrison Ave is 🔥… owner has been there for 46 years… it’s a hole in the wall but the sandwiches are amazing!
Brent’s Deli in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) deserves to be on this list. It is as good as any deli in the country!
