I’m fine with this not being directly modular compatible because when have you ever seen a lovely greenhouse with a large lawn immediately blocked off by concrete?
True but I think they should make some kind of modular compatible line with more specifically outdoor style sets like parks and gardens, which would give you somewhere to put this and fill out a modular town with variety instead and of just buildings. I think those types of places would go well with sets like the museum and assembly square
I don't mind the prob lens shots at all. It might not be how we as fans can realistically view the set, but it is almost certainly how us as fans will imagine the set in our minds, even when viewing it from more real-world angles.
In addition, that "impossible" shot done through the body of the building is obviously not a way that an actual human being could see it, so I have no problem with it. I don't criticise Jang for giving his thoughts on it, though. I feel like his videos work a bit like a good film review: they give you enough information to judge whether the product would be worth your time. Also, in a world of sponsored reviews (and I had no idea that Lego was even *scripting* reviews?!) it's good that he highlights and discusses potential issues with how Lego operates as a company.
That's the first set that makes me think "I'm officially priced out of lego". I really feel that this kind of set (non-IP (like LOTR) non-super-premium (like the lion's castle)) shouldn't be this expensive. They could've kept it *at least* below 300 (or even 250) by removing minis and a couple of archways but they didn't. I'm not okay with them deciding that $330 was a good starting price for that type of product.
A sad, but common phenomenon, where as fan you just say, "Enough is enough." I would recommend trying the alternative brands, which often offer some really outstanding sets at way better prices, so you can still have fun building.
You can literally get 4x of the friends botanical garden for the price of this set, get way more pieces, and it's got way more interesting water features and seems better to me as a whole.
Definitely needs more botanicals in this botanical garden. Also it's just not worth getting while the Friends set is on shelves, it's way cheaper to just buy multiples of that and have a solid competitor.
While im not the biggest fan of this because of the price and design being similar to the friends greenhouse, I do think the fuss people are making about this not being a true "modular" is just silly, and its giving too much power to the way lego presents its products to consumers.
There should be more of a fuss about it not actually being a botanical gardens - it’s merely a singular glass house. It’d be like calling a single tyre a car.
I prefer the look of the actual set, over the original design. To me, these sorts of buildings *should* be long rather than just tall. I'm sure someone will say there are real-world examples of the latter, but to me, when I think of a main building in a botanical garden, the actual set is the sort of thing I picture. The original set does perhaps do a better job of conveying that it's "made" from iron and glass, but at the cost of it feeling visually intrusive and dominating.
I think the proportions are way, way off on the Lego version, compared to the fan design: notable real-world Victorian-style conservatories do have a lot of height, at least in their central areas. The Lego version looks far too squat, and the bold green accents also don't fit, though I can see why they included them, so people wouldn't complain it's too white or monotonous! :)
I'm curious to see all the plants up close - so far it's not quite living up to my (admittedly very high) expectations set by the Friends greenhouse and the botanical sets. I added a few plants from the tiny plants set into my friends greenhouse to get a quite substantial carnivorous plant section and I love how instantly recognisable they all are. The few plants they highlighted here look good, but the total image isn't quite hitting the same spot even though the building looks a lot more impressive than the small Friends greenhouse.
I think this set is gorgeous but my fear is similar to others - the lego friends garden just felt so creative and diverse in its plants and it makes me feel less enthralled with this one.. i think about those saxophone plants so often LOL Ill def be watching ur review when it drops jang!! I just feel too on the fence rn 😔
I appreciate you Jang, for continuing to fight the good fight as an unsponsored reviewer. Despite what Lego has been doing to push you out of the space.
it's beautiful, I think the biggest thing I wish was more like the original design is the width-to-height ratio. Two whole baseplates is a lot of counterspace for this, even if I had the funding for it, I certainly don't have the space. Having it be taller but narrower would mean it could fit onto more display surfaces. But all designs are compromises in some ways, often especially the ideas releases.
This reminds me so much of the Royal Palm House at Kew Gardens in London, which I went to loads of times as a kid. Especially those wrought iron steps up to the balcony. Love this set. Feels like a super peaceful thing to put together.
While the interior shots are heavily edited and perfected, I feel like they help give the consumers a clear look at the details and insides of the builds. Kinda like how tech or snack commercials show stylized depictions of the insides of a product. However, I do feel that Lego should attach a clear disclaimer in each shot, indicating that they are taken in heavily optimized conditions
I absolutely love this set. Lego made it better and with more details than fan design. I cannot compare this to the Friends set, it’s on another level…more mature and you get actual mini figures and not mini dolls. The architecture is more refined and realistic vs the friends set (which I have too) that is more cartoonish. Day 1 buy for me.
I like it a lot. It's super pretty and charming! But, I'm officially priced-out from LEGO products. It's been a great and fun hobby the past 8 years, but the cost for these sets continue to increase in both actual price figure and the sheer number of sets becoming more expensive.
It seems like a nice set but i think the only issue is its own competition. The Friend set is on sale for like $69 i think (10 off whatever the retail is). You can buy 2 for half the price of the set. You have options.
I got to see the interview from the Designer that did this Idea Set. This is very well made, and sadly yes, does have more Minifigs compared to X-Mansion, lol. The designer did some great features in this one. The 2 big plants inside are easy to take in and out, and they are slotted into the structure so you easily access the middle section. Those wall panels are a nice feature. I think many sets in the future can benefit with this one. Including some future Advanced Model Builds. And there's alot of character fun in this one. Like the kid accidently causing trouble by picking a Rose for his Mom, as seen here. The DOG that is in this is actually a replica of "Original Idea's Creators Pet" she has. If you purchase this within a time frame, you will get a "Bonus" Set that is the Garden Entrance. This set, and the Entrance will be a nice add to my City I am building.
This is the first $300 set. I have ever wanted to buy from Lego. I was watching store employees assemble one yesterday at the Lego store in Boca Raton Florida. It is even more beautiful in person. And I absolutely will be purchasing it.
I have mixed feelings about this. Maybe the botanical gardens in Europe are different, but al the ones I've been to in the US Aare 75% minimum outdoor space with only a tiny greenhouse or two for specialized or indoor plants. Lots of different gardens for different types of plants outside. So this set reminds me of a conservatory or a greenhouse and not a botanical gardens. It's also incredibly small to me for that price tag. But I'm biased and don't buy Lego sets that msrp above $199.99 as much as I can. Especially for the city. I got cheaper on City sets than Star Wars. This set must have a lot of small pieces. It feels a lot like the friends which I already purchased 2 copies of (easy to get sales to reduce the price further). So I'm comparing this $330 set, to 3 Friend's Botanical Gardens combined for a total price of $160 max thanks to easy to get sales. And it's rough to justify that price to me. Even with the new flower molds. The gwp is nice but not great and apparently not wide enough to line up with the front entrance. My pet peeve is Lego adding extra stuff that jacks up the cost that isn't great. in this case, the cafeteria space in the front is super tiny, and would have just been better to cut it entirely and lower the price. Same with the front register to buy your tickets. It looks lazy and half finished for a build area. So this set is average. And I get frustrated because I feel like Lego has gotten lazy or greedy offering us less for more money, and than rely rely on Rebrickable to fix and improve all of these sets to make them the way they "should" have come in the first place, for even more money for parts or a second copy. More of these Shenanigans may just push me over to Funwhole for the city. I'm getting burnt out of the prices, release day gwp selling out fast, and constantly chasing increased prices and waiting for Walmart clearence and sales which feels cutthroat competitive these days against flippers and scalpers (I won't call them investors). Between the Afol community and the Lego company, I am gradually losing my interest in the hobby sadly.
You're right about the name of the set, but I think if they called it a conservatory, that would confuse a lot of people, who, if they knew the term, would probably associate it with something like Juilliard. I feel your pain regarding Lego. They've really taken a lot of joy out of the hobby for me, until I started building the alternative brands, which made it fun again because some of the themes and designs are really cool and not available from Lego, and I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of every time I make a purchase, unlike with Lego.
A single glass house DOES NOT make a botanical gardens. As a horticulturalist I’m irritated by the deliberate misuse of terms. Aside from that, it’s outrageously expensive for what you get. As has been the case with most LEGO sets for a few years now which is why I’ve stopped buying LEGO sets.
To be honest, anybody who is not new to the LEGO game, would be able to look at those ideas' renderings and build something similar. It might be fun to challenge ourselves from time to time.
7:33: to be fair, old European train stations and old greenhouses generally tend to have quite a lot in common. But I get what you mean, I have that same feeling too.
1:02 My main *nerd* critique is that the original set balanced the horizontal and vertical axis really well, however the LEGO Set is too horizontal IMO, again I am a nerd so don’t take this when considering buying the set. But I feel the set is missing a ‘crown’ at its main entrance portal.
It's not nerdy at all: it's an architectural set, so the architecure should be critiqued. I think the original fan submission was way more esthetically pleasing in its proportions and details and more accurately called to mind the Victorian conservatories the set is clearly inspired by/paying homage to. I would have bought that version in a heartbeat, but this one I'll likely pass on, particulary since I already have the Friends set.
Have to agree with people, we never see lines of buildings stuck together. Buildings should have spaces, sometimes large, between them so no problem with non modular. The inside is super beautiful and the stairs is so clever
No mention about the steep price haha which is usually a big deal for our friend Jang, but not this time as he desperately wants this and so he will dish out the moneyz just ike the rest of us if we want an overpriced set. It's a beautiful set but it's VERY expensive.
I much prefer the new design! My wife and I are huge fans of botanical gardens and building Lego (usually modulars) together while watching Christmas movies. I know this set isn't a modular, but it fits the vibe of one and we're super excited.
Didn’t see the original fan idea until now. I definitely like it better. Most of the foliage outside of the remade building jus seems like a waste of parts.
A really beautiful set and definitely better than the original submission imho. BUT - this is more expensive than 4 Friends Botanical Garden sets put together...and less pieces. I do not like the price. It feels way overpriced.
This Lego structure is exactly the same as a local ruins near Me of a Victorian Orangery, almost exactly the same. All that remains of these ruins is the brick and stone structures.
I think the thing people forget about when designing a Lego ideas set is color. Take a look at the original designs of the A-frame cabin, this, etc and the OG designers always forget about color.
The all-white color of the fan design is much more realistic actually, when you look at real-world Victorian-style conservatories. The details in the original kept it both more realistic and more visually interesting, despite being monochrome.
The new corner window pieces I wonder how lego will use this in future sets I love the larger pieces compared to tiny pieces. Makes the sets larger in scale
The balcony shot at 4:00 will always bother me to no end the fact that Lego produces new pieces constantly, but we can’t get a tile that follows the same radius as the element below it… just like when they had the road plates and every curved section had no way to follow the edge with curbing
It reminds of the Hortus Botanicus in in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sure it isnt a copy of it, but it has the same atmosphere amd is also curvy. Also reminds of the old Hortus Botanicus in my hometown Utrecht. Not the building, which is more like a late 18th century industrial greenhouse, but the inside does.
Not a set to buy on release day, but gift with purchase is a nice touch. They could give it for everyone that buys it directly from Lego, because let's be fair, retailers are going to sell it for at least 50 less...
The focus has shifted from flora to architecture too much in this set vs the original for me. You can hardly see any plants looking from the outside in on Lego's version
I think it is based (the orginal submission and the production set) On kew gardens botanical gardens in London. Search it up and you'll see what I mean
I totally agree with your opinion concerning these prob lens shots. They give a complete irregular view that you will never be able to experience for yourself. I agree that they should stop this. Concerning the set itself: It´s to much building to me and less botanical things. I like the Friends set more and also there are some great moc´s at rebrickable using two of the Friends sets that suits me better. So I won´t buy it. Thanks for this great video - as always. Best regards from Munich, Europe
This is night and day when you compare this to the x-mansion at the same price. In fact I think I would rather stick the x-men in front of this and call it a day.
First glance and I love it, but the comments are ripping it apart😭 Okay update: I will also be getting this. It is really expensive (it will be my largest set yet) but I love it🙂
Hey Jang, since you keep calling well lit photography/renders "deception in marketing" even thought it´s the most benign way of making your product look good: What is your suggestion for "honest marketing" that shows off those hard-to-reach places?
how can I stay on top of when you're going live on twitch? I enjoy your youtube content and would like to check out your streams! I already followed you over there I just never catch when you're online haha
🤬 lego keeps making stuff i want. I was tempted to buy a couple of those friends butterfly sanctuary sets to build this sort of thing. Also the x manssion is coming out too
I am beyond dissapointed. You can get 4 Friends gardens for that price. that over TWICE MORE BRICKS. Friends set also had WAY better pieces overall. Yeah here you have new flowers, but Friends garden has amazing NPU flower builds, unique animal (brown duck x2) and KOI fish tiles!
I’m fine with this not being directly modular compatible because when have you ever seen a lovely greenhouse with a large lawn immediately blocked off by concrete?
Yeah I imagined this as a central park area with streets surrounding all sides.
True but I think they should make some kind of modular compatible line with more specifically outdoor style sets like parks and gardens, which would give you somewhere to put this and fill out a modular town with variety instead and of just buildings. I think those types of places would go well with sets like the museum and assembly square
Putting it in the “Wow what a set I’ll never get” category.
6:55 Jang lore drop
jangs always talked about his history in plant bio
hahah. Honestly I feel like he knows stuff about everything it's crazy
I don't mind the prob lens shots at all. It might not be how we as fans can realistically view the set, but it is almost certainly how us as fans will imagine the set in our minds, even when viewing it from more real-world angles.

Yeah since I own the friends set I feel biased and don't like this larger set yk. The friends set is too perfect imo.
I didn't think about it like that. I'm actually reconsidering my options now.
Finally someone not crying about it not being modular
Jang being goated as usual
Definitely needs more botanicals in this botanical garden.
Also it's just not worth getting while the Friends set is on shelves, it's way cheaper to just buy multiples of that and have a solid competitor.
Their prices are so insane now.
I like the set, can never afford it, but look forward to your review!
Sticking with my friends set
While im not the biggest fan of this because of the price and design being similar to the friends greenhouse, I do think the fuss people are making about this not being a true "modular" is just silly, and its giving too much power to the way lego presents its products to consumers.
I agree, but this is also the same reason why X-men Mansion shouldn't have been a modular set. The back of the building looks awful
There should be more of a fuss about it not actually being a botanical gardens - it’s merely a singular glass house.
It’d be like calling a single tyre a car.
I prefer the look of the actual set, over the original design. To me, these sorts of buildings *should* be long rather than just tall. This looks more realistic than the original IDEAS design, so I think this is an improvement.
I'm curious to see all the plants up close - so far it's not quite living up to my (admittedly very high) expectations set by the Friends greenhouse and the botanical sets. The few plants they highlighted here look good, but the total image isn't quite hitting the same spot even though the building looks a lot more impressive than the small Friends greenhouse.
Yeah its all basic flowers. Really disapointing for ADULT Set.
The most confusing are new tulips not on stalks.
Ever since I saw the lego friends botanical garden, I wanted a fully enclosed version of it. I’m so glad I waited!
I didn’t wait, but I’m still going to buy this and add my friends one to it somehow haha
I think this set is gorgeous but my fear is similar to others - the lego friends garden just felt so creative and diverse in its plants and it makes me feel less enthralled with this one.. i think about those saxophone plants so often LOL
Ill def be watching ur review when it drops jang!! I just feel too on the fence rn 😔
Looks amazing botanical garden set will go nice with the natural history museum great preview jang 👍
I appreciate you Jang, for continuing to fight the good fight as an unsponsored reviewer. Despite what Lego has been doing to push you out of the space.

I was thinking of Kew's Palm House too when I first saw it
While the interior shots are heavily edited and perfected, I feel like they help give the consumers a clear look at the details and insides of the builds. However, I do feel that Lego should attach a clear disclaimer in each shot, indicating that they are taken in heavily optimized conditions
I literally spit out my drink when i saw the price, unreal...
the fan design is significantly better because you can see more plants through the glass.
It was also more architecturally and proportionally pleasing and realistic.
I think it is beautiful. One of, if not the best looking sets of the year.
I laughed out loud when I saw the price. I have no idea what LEGO is thinking at this point. Or is it not them, everyone just has money now?
As long as people are willing to spend, Lego will keep jacking up prices as high as they can. Vote with your wallet.
I like it a lot. It's super pretty and charming!
But, I'm officially priced-out from LEGO products.
It's been a great and fun hobby the past 8 years, but the cost for these sets continue to increase in both actual price figure and the sheer number of sets becoming more expensive.
Same. I'm just priced out. Been doing LOZ sets and they're fun for a 1/3 of the price of lego.
It seems like a nice set but i think the only issue is its own competition. The Friend set is on sale for like $69 i think (10 off whatever the retail is). You can buy 2 for half the price of the set. You have options.
It's a great set for those who can afford it.
The price seems outrageous, or is it just me?
I like the plant biology talk!
The floor tiles are link to the little flower shop in the assembly square. That's lovely detail!
Been looking forward to this set for months. I already have 2 MILS plates ready and waiting. Excellent preview as always.
always love your commitment to real advertisement
I have mixed feelings about this. Maybe the botanical gardens in Europe are different, but al the ones I've been to in the US Aare 75% minimum outdoor space with only a tiny greenhouse or two for specialized or indoor plants. Lots of different gardens for different types of plants outside. So this set reminds me of a conservatory or a greenhouse and not a botanical gardens.
It's also incredibly small to me for that price tag. But I'm biased and don't buy Lego sets that msrp above $199.99 as much as I can. Especially for the city.
A single glass house DOES NOT make a botanical gardens. As a horticulturalist I’m irritated by the deliberate misuse of terms.

Its not nerding, more vertical building looked way more intricate also with all the ornaments
Totally agree with u. That’s exactly what i thought too. U have put it really well. The original set is aesthetically much more pleasing.
It's not nerdy at all: it's an architectural set, so the architecure should be critiqued. I think the original fan submission was way more esthetically pleasing in its proportions and details and more accurately called to mind the Victorian conservatories the set is clearly inspired by/paying homage to. Awesome job Jang!
A really beautiful set and definitely better than the original submission imho. BUT - this is more expensive than 4 Friends Botanical Garden sets put together...and less pieces. I do not like the price. It feels way overpriced.
The spiral staircase is a redo from te one at the back of the diner modular from 2018.
Delightful video as always
This Lego structure is exactly the same as a local ruins near Me of a Victorian Orangery, almost exactly the same. All that remains of these ruins is the brick and stone structures.
I did the double Friends botanical garden, and that is a great design. Still I do like this one. So looking forward to the review.
A version that looks almost identical was submitted to Bricklink Series 3, down to the coloring of the tiled floor.
Like every big set nowadays, this feels at least 20% overpriced.

As a toy photographer I appreciate your thoughts on the lighting in the product shots
Love it!
The price is simpIy too high, end stop. And every excuse I've seen is 'It's on TWO basepIates!'. So? A basepIate is $7.
The focus has shifted from flora to architecture too much in this set vs the original for me. You can hardly see any plants looking from the outside in on Lego's version
One issue with the GWP is it's built on plates while the garden is on baseplates.
I think it is based (the orginal submission and the production set) On kew gardens botanical gardens in London. Search it up and you'll see what I mean
At least, it's a very lovely set for those who are into botanical stuff.
Correct it's Lego idea's IE a fan gives them the idea of a set to bring to market bassed off of fan support and interest.
05:50 you can see the spotlight in the background :D
Beautiful set 😍, the price 😢
The digital displays are do move in 360 degrees, just not all on the same axis
I totally agree with your opinion concerning these prob lens shots. They give a complete irregular view that you will never be able to experience for yourself. I agree that they should stop this. Concerning the set itself: It´s to much building to me and less botanical things. I like the Friends set more and also there are some great moc´s at rebrickable using two of the Friends sets that suits me better. So I won´t buy it. Thanks for this great video - as always. Best regards from Munich, Europe
Looks beautiful & I’m a Star Wars guy haha
I already bought the friends botanical garden twice, but I'll get this one as well, it looks nice.
Hahahaha!! Dangit Boomhauer!
Anthurie is the name of the plant, that you are looking for 😊
This is night and day when you compare this to the x-mansion at the same price. In fact I think I would rather stick the x-men in front of this and call it a day.
First glance and I love it, but the comments are ripping it apart😭
Okay update: I will also be getting this. It is really expensive (it will be my largest set yet) but I love it🙂
Unidentified plant - bird of paradise?
LEGO STOP OVERPRICING THOSE SETS.....
Unfortunately I feel that this set is very expensive. It looks like one of the plant houses in Kew Gardens, near Richmond London England
Huh, how will the Friends one fit alongside this?
Hey Jang, since you keep calling well lit photography/renders "deception in marketing" even thought it´s the most benign way of making your product look good:
What is your suggestion for "honest marketing" that shows off those hard-to-reach places?
Way too expensive does not feel substantial enough and the thin base plates does not feel good
I just dont have the real estate to display this. But overall it's a nice set.
It looks good, but it's out of my scope of collecting and i just don't have space.
how can I stay on top of when you're going live on twitch? I enjoy your youtube content and would like to check out your streams! I already followed you over there I just never catch when you're online haha
Lol they forgot to put studs on the 360 render 😂
This looks so nice, but it doesnt really "spark joy" for me. I wish I knew why that is. Maybe its the bland, "adult" 18+ presentation (black box etc)
Beautiful set, terrible price.
Too big and expensive. I'll probably just buy two of the friends sets now and integrate with the lunar park
Why is this not $175?
Because it's Lego.
Yes 😢
I really like the look of it but i feel like this is a waste of a lego idea set it should be a modular building
It basically is a modular. If you put it between 2 modulars the base plates will line up you will just have a 3 stud gap and no technic pins.
No the new one is better then fan version
...I just don't see 330 dollars of value here, if I'm honest.
🤬 lego keeps making stuff i want. I was tempted to buy a couple of those friends butterfly sanctuary sets to build this sort of thing. Also the x manssion is coming out too
Looks like a good set but not one I would buy
I am beyond dissapointed.
You can get 4 Friends gardens for that price. that over TWICE MORE BRICKS.
Friends set also had WAY better pieces overall.
Yeah here you have new flowers, but Friends garden has amazing NPU flower builds, unique animal (brown duck x2) and KOI fish tiles!
👍🏻
