Got to admit I would love it if they buffed the Cromwell's gun handling bc it is absolutely putrid - but if they did it would be an absolute beast and def lower the skill cap. It's one of those tanks where if you don't know how to play it you can see some brutal games. But if you do know how to play it you can carry games up to tier 8, much like the VK 30.02m. Even with 135 alpha
Bounce after bounce, being top tier, against tier 6, thats a NONO, for me at least. Buff is not even mediocre, better than nothing but more likely to be nothing than anything. This kind of vehicles which are just "the same but one tier higher", I would pick the Cromwell if I want to play this thing.
The comet was a horrific tank for me. It was the first line i started playing and it was really bad line to start with. Slowish tank, no camo, with flat thin armor and a gun that has meh alpha low pen. You need to expose the tank alot to put dpm to use, but its incredible hard to do so. Back in the day shooting gold was rare and i think the gold ammo might make the difference now days.
I didn't need to witness this N&I Comet to still not bother with it. Obviously WG didn't go far enough with meaningful buffs. But I still gave it a thumbs up on general principals, and you have to eat.
This is still my most played tank historically, coming from times like 8 years ago when i was f2p and stopped playing, i have 2 MoE on it from then. Now i returned, bought some prems to be able to enjoy the game with less time, but Comet has special place in my heart, i loved it.
Strongly disagree. This tank is below average or rather bad. Let me explain: The gun is simply (very) bad with one of the lowest shell velocity of any tank (except he), laughable damage and below average penetration. It has dps on paper but this is mostly useless since you have to expose your tank for it, but since you don't have any armor you will most likely get team-shot before you can win the trade. The mobility is solid but the tank is not nearly as swift as the Cromwell. Consequently, you are better of with the latter.
It's not just stats have changed. This looks more like a propper tank now when it's driving. If you check back 2 years ago smaller tanks like this were like go-carts.
Before hd model the Comet turret was really strong, they should make it like it used to be It used to have 220mm or so protection and they nerfed to current paper

Comet had before stabilization of 7 Tier meds with alpha 240. Cromwell is much better tank Tier to Tier - probably top2 tech-tree meds with T-34-85 (BUGI is better with gold, Strv 74 is better at sniping, using gun-depression), Cromwell now is probably even the best 6 Tier medium - can brawl, can spot; if it will get better gun-handling it would be just as good as T-34-85M. Comet, on the other hand, in comparison to other 7 Tier meds - was at best average, for me bad on 7 Tier meds (25-30 days ago Comet has one of the lowest requirements on 3 marks from 7 Tier meds). It had so bad stabilization, similar to Cromwell, much slower and bigger with almost the same gun. 12 degrees of depression is always helpful, but with that stabilization it was so hard to connect shots even hull-down. With 140 aplha playing with it was kind of painful vs 8-9 Tiers. That buff is really good.
Good points. I disagree about the BUGI...imo gun alpha doesn't make a tank good or great, and setting the gun aside the rest of the BUGI platform is awful. I would say the Cromwell, T-34-85 and VK 30.02m all share the top spot at tier 6, all with a bit different play styles. Can't speak to STRV 74 much bc I don't own it, but the gun seems to really hit.
Your comment about The cromwell is on point, it feels like they got the wrong tier in this line. WG should have applied this buff to the cromwell, instead of the comet. But hey the never fuck up, looking at the progetto tx 😢
Cromwell is already one of the best T6 in the game tho, it doesn't need any further buff (t6 gun being derpy is kinda the norm, that is how t6 meta works)
Skill: it is a good tank. Me: lay of the drugs mate. Its one of the worts tanks in the game. No armor, tier 6 gun with no alfa or pen. No chance against tier 9. And you will play against tier 9 5x more often than tier 5.
Over half a year late, but I'd say the easiest and almost surefire way to spot a bad mid-tier tanks in World of Tanks are the following check marks; - Is this tank saw mass production and service in real life? - Is this tank's best gun is the one that used in the mass production, not a fictional gun, or one-off prototype gun, or gun that's historical but never mounted on the vehicle. Why is it relevant? Well, World of Tanks seems to subscribed to "Super Prototype" cliche, where one-of-a-kind, limited production, or prototype protagonist vehicles are always superior to the mass produced junks used by mooks/goons by a significant margins. So Comet, ticking both check marks above, means its below average performance is inevitable. Cromwell didn't get shafted because its best gun is non-historical. At least that should make it easier to 3 mark, I guess? Unless you face platoon of cheaters in throwaway accounts that try to overinflated their actual account's stat by being a dummy pinata on the opposing team for said account to farm as shown in several videos years prior.

I think the comet needs a penetration buff at least? The gun pen is kinda low

I liked and performed Leo better because of better gun handling so I think buffing Comet's gun handling is a good thing.
