What amazes me is that Naughty Dog had always intended on making the series go in the direction it headed from Jak & Daxter to Jak 3. They planned on the whole future time loop thing from Jak 2, and had planned on the dark/light in Jak 3 (not to mention the ottsel = precursor joke) from the very beginning. The fact that the series did so well is a testament to Naughty Dog's planning and foresight abilities.
They didn't planned it from the start or the uncle character from Jak & Daxter wouldn't have just vanished and Jak's from the future he can't have an uncle from the past
It wasn't planned. Naughty Dog chose to go in a darker direction for Jak II because of the rise of more mature/edgier games. Jak has an uncle in the 1st game, who isn't even in Jak II and Jak 3. That's how you know Naughty Dog didn't plan this from the start.
Are you entirely sure about how they planned Jak 3? Because the developer himself said on an interview while they were making Jak 2, that he didn't know where the series was going to go from there. I personally felt that, what he said was true as the story wasn't as strong as the first two. However, if you did hear it from somewhere reliable that they did know where they were going with Jak 3, then I guess they were pretty sneaky lol.
I got my information from the Naughty Dog interviews at the back of my Collector's Edition Jak 3 Strategy Guide. I want to say that the Creative Director said it? I honestly cannot remember. I'd whip the guide out and re-read what they said, but I can't, 'cause I'm not sure where I put the book....
