So I just got off the phone with their customer service rep. Here are the steps: 1- add 500 ml of water to your tank 2- add descaling solution 3 - place water tank in its place on the machine 4 - turn on machine * the coffee button should be white and non-blinking* 5 - Open the lid and close it but DO NOT LOCK IT 6 - press the coffee button for seven (7) seconds (or until the coffee button turns orange and blinks rapidly) 7 - Lock the machine 8 - Unlock but DO NOT OPEN the machine 9 - press the coffee button for 7 seconds again - *yes , you have to do it again* (the coffee button light should turn off and come back on orange and blinking) 10 - lock the machine once more (I know... redundant) 11- Press the button normally and the descaling process should start. *once descaling is finished, the water tank should be empty* 12 - wash water tank with soap and water then add fresh drinking water (fill it to the top) 13 - press the coffee button once (light should still be blinking orange) and it'll rinse the machine. ***Important: if your tank runs out of water and the light is still orange and blinking, REFILL the water tank and press the button one more time. Keep doing this until the light becomes stable and white. (I had to do this process twice, so hang in there.)*** 14 - Once the machine is still and the light is white and non blinking, congratulations, you have successfully descaled your machine and survived to tell the tale. :) 15 - Let the machine air dry before you use it. Voila! Best of luck to all of you!
I started the descaling when my son had 1year old and finally it ended. Now I can make coffee to my son 7 years old birthday party. Thank you Nespresso
I would like to thank all of my fellow Vertuo Next machine owners for their comments on this thread. I have watched this horrible video 5 times, pausing, rewatching...and questioning my own intelligence. After heading to the comments, I realized it's not just me - you are all helpful, comforting, and often hilarious! THANK YOU!
I watch this video, followed the instructions and nothing worked as the video said it would. My self esteem is destroyed. I’m going to get some instant coffee now…
If I die in the next 24 hours please hold this company responsible for poisoning me. Since there’s no descaling button who knows if I did this right or if I’m just poisoning myself Heather’s style.
READ THIS if you are having troubles. 1.-Put descaling solution in and add 500ml of water. 2.-Turn on Machine. (open and close lid I guess) 3.-Put in lock position. 4.-Put in unlock position where the lid stays down but lifts a half inch. 5.-Press Button 7 seconds. IT WILL BLINK ORANGE FAST! (REPEAT THIS AGAIN!!!) 6.-Put in lock position. 7.-Put in unlock position where the lid stays down but lifts a half inch. 8.-Press Button 7 seconds. IT WILL STOP BLINKING AND IMMEDIATELY BLINK ORANGE FAST AGAIN. 9.-Put into lock position. 10.-Press Button once. It will now start descaling. -Once it's run through, it'll blink orange again, rinse container well, fill with water and press button once. It'll rinse the machine. ET VOILA. Hope this helps you to not have a hissy fit. Just got grey hairs trying to figure this out and ended up calling the number in one of the comments. (Turns out it is a US number and they aren't very helpful unless they find your membership number. Since I live in Canada, this took a very long time)
We are truly sorry to hear that and we apologize for the inconvenience. Be assured that we have technical support available. We invite you to call our Canadian toll-free number 1.855.325.5781. Our Machine Specialists will be happy to further assist you. Thank you for your patience!
FINALLY…! I tried like everybody says, and listened to people who said Nespresso was showing it twice for no reason. But I just tried like the manual says (and the video) and it works. 1: half lock but not close and press 7sec or until it blink orange 2: then close and lock it 3: then open again and turn it back and half close and press 7sec and wait for orange blink, it can shut down, but hold it. 4: then you should be ready for turn it back to close and just press 1 time for descaling
Nespresso an idea for your next model would be to have 3 buttons. 1 :Brew 2: Rinse and 3 Descale. Get your product manager and design team to figure it out.
@@nespresso please take this feedback seriously onboard. This descaling process is absolutely utter nonsense! The video is not at all clear, I had to read another users comments to figure it out (and I even work in IT).
@@nespresso worst fu¢king machine ever. All I want is a cup of f’ing coffee this morning. My wife is mad because I took your awful contraption and punted it out the door. How can I find out who’s on your development team? They need to be pushed off a cliff.
@@nespresso your machine also shunts itself into cleaning mode after maybe 2 coffees, even if its already been cleaned just following. Oh, and every week it does the same thing, regardless of usage in the prior week. And none of the steps in the video work or address when the machine does this, and its just pure insanity as you have to continue to try and input any of the steps in order to get it to clean itself so you can actually make your coffee. Oh, and it wont exit cleaning mode so even if you dont care about cleaning an already cleaned machine and just want your coffee, tough luck. Im surprised that, with the amount of issues this machine has, that you even let it hit the shelves at all. Just take a look at any of the reviews online. Average of 3 stars, which ive come to know as poor quality since a lot of people make an initial review before the issues arise. The fact that this costs as much as a brand new video game console capable of storing hundreds of GBs, playing games, movies, and shows, and can even be used to surf the web, yet this machine ONLY makes coffee and it can hardly even seem to do that when you want it to?! Its shameful, honestly. This was the one product weve gotten, and it will be the only product we will get.
Thank GOD I ended up here. I was thinking of buying this machine but after looking at this video, i realized i dont have a PHD in coffee cleaning. Lock/unlock, press 7 seconds, do a backflip, find a new planet, repeat.
First, I am grateful for the Vertuo Next descaling support group here. I couldn't have got through it without you. Who knew that when I received that unassuming rectangular box with two freezie-like tubes of descale juice, that I would be actually embarking on a new journey - a new part of my life. Sad that it's all over now, but at least I'll be back! I look forward to receiving my diploma in the mail Goodbye, until I can't put this off any longer again 🙃
Couldn't have made it any more difficult even if you had wanted to. It took me half a year to gather my courage to begin it and another 15 minutes to rewatch it again and again to understand the whole procedure.
I purchased my Nespresso machine about 8 months ago and enjoyed many cups of coffee. Last month I followed the instructions in this video. Today, my doctors here at the Institute say I'm making good progress and that I can now use a spoon to eat my jello!
@nespresso - this is impossible. Please consider remaking your tutorual video so it doesn't repeatedly reference taking out the used capsule and unlocking and relocking more times than necessary. I have been at this for over an hour and I still haven't successfully started the descale cycle.
Or add a descale, clean, and reset button. Minimal buttons just means more complicated button combinations. Hell, add a descale command through your phone. They already do phone notifications.
The Fix for the Orange Blinking Light! This was for my Vertuo Next machine. I went through the descaling process in this poorly made video above (has a bunch of random clips pieced together that don't fit), and then somewhere near the end it all went wrong and I couldn't get rid of the orange linking light. I tried everything. There's no way to reset it. The Fix - You need to let it run through tons of bins of water, until eventually it stops on it's own. It went through between 6-8 for me, I lost count and it took ~40min. - You fill the bin with water, re-attach to the machine and press the main button (the one blinking orange) just once. - It will then heat up and start spewing out more of the fresh water - You repeat this continuously (It took 6-8 full bins of water for me) - Eventually the machine will completely stop and you'll see a white light! (instead of the blinking orange one)! - Then you are done and everything is back to normal!
I can’t thank you enough for this !!!! Honestly I lost count (maybe 7-8 full bins of water) I was soooo happy when I saw the white light.. god bless you 🌹🌹
I would like to say thank you, I have been googling and researching how the heck to get the light to go away. After 8 TIMES, the white light finally came back
For anyone who is having trouble brewing and cant pinpoint the issue Sometimes the spinning mechanism on top that punctures the pod gets stuck look out for that.. If so unplug the machine and spin that puncturing mechanism and it'll brew once again Once I figured that out It made my life so much easier hope it helps.
The descaling process is not only unjustifiably complicated and very poorly explained. The video is actually wrong, or at least going through several unnecessary steps. It's basically doing everything twice (except for the rinse cycle, which is the only thing that you actually have to do twice, and they only show once). I had to listen to this video five times (at 1.5x speed, to be able to actually perceive the slow instructions as coherent sentences and not just as incomprehensible strings of words), write down the instructions, spend several minutes trying to puzzle out what to actually wanted me to do (as the literal instructions are obviously nonsense), and then try and fail twice before getting it right. I'm a theoretical physicist, and this was the still the trickiest thing I had to do all week. Tip to Nespresso: Try giving us some proper written instructions. A simple bulleted list. And include it with the descaling agent. Making videos is obviously not your thing.
Would you like them to provide written instructions for every type of machine in the packet with the descaling solution? Perhaps, as a theoretical physicist, the practicalities are life are beyond you. 😂
No matter what I do this machine won’t descale or clean. I’ve watched this video on repeat. Done all the steps. This is such a brutal machine. Had it for one month.
absolutely hate this machine; I've had so many problems with it, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't in spite of descaling it 6 times since I purchased in January 3 months ago!
Sometimes the spinning mechanism on top that punctures the pod gets stuck look out for that.. If so unplug the machine and spin that puncturing mechanism and it'll brew once again Once I figured that out It made my life so much easier hope it helps.
Same ! So frustrated still won’t stop flashing orange. No mention of this involved process when I purchased it and maybe they should include a descaling sachet with product.
Process isn't as difficult as the video makes it seem, watch from 1:49-4:20 the rest is useless. Pour descaling liquid along with water until about halfway full. Unlock, hold button 7 sec, lock, press button. That's it. Video has you doing everything twice for no reason
What do you do when the light blinks yellow/orange/green(I don't know which color it is, I am colorblind) and the machine won't do anything beside draining the whole water tank??
@@markostojanovic1454 I've had mine do some weird things like that. Usually I either unplug it then plug back in, or sometimes the spin part at the top of the lid to the machine is jammed and I've had to free it up by forcing the spin
I finally made it! ☕ When you finish this 'easy procedure '🙃 you have to put water over and over again for many times and pray it finally works!😅😉 Someone on the comments wrote 7-9 times? I didn't count! I threw away three coffee capsules and after doing this with the water over and over again I finally made a cup of coffee!☕
i was like "come on, why people find it that difficult to descale a coffee machine?", until the lock-unlock-press for 7"-unlock-triangle-square-R1-R2-start-select-enter nuclear passwords hit the fan
Here are the actual descaling instructions: 1. Whatever you do, do NOT watch the video above. 2. Pour the descaling agent into the water tank, together with 0.5 liters of water. 3. Unlock and empty the machine head of any used capsules. 3. Close the lid, but leave it unlocked. Press and hold the button for 7 seconds. 4. Once the button is flashing orange, lock the lid and press the button once. - The descaling cycle starts, the machine will empty the tank, then stop. 5. Refill the tank with fresh water. Press the button once. - The first rinse cycle starts, and then the machine will stop. 6. Refill the tank again, and press the button once again. - The second rinse cycle starts. 7. As the machine stops after completing the rinse cycles, it will automatically exit the descaling mode and resume normal operation. (although, reading through the comments, it seems other users require several more rinse cycles than I do. And some only seem to need one. So perhaps keep that in mind.)
After so many times of listening to the video and failing. I decided to search UA-cam. I agreed with one person the video needs to be redone. Then I read the person’s comment of the one who graciously wrote the steps. Thank You. But got stuck again on how to end the process. But by trial and error from reading the book and pressing button a few times, the orange button disappeared. Also I wasted a descaling unit because I miscalculated the amount of water to use. Live and learn. Now I’m enjoying a cup of coffee. Thanks @Steffan Silferberg
@@miaw.5819 Im willing to put some money on that the machine will start blinking for rescaling regardless. It probably starts blinking after x amounts of cups of of coffee
I bought the descaling solution and thought I was on my way. Then I watched the video and I was about to watch it again when I decided to read the comments. I think I will watch it again tomorrow and try it then. I don't feel like being frustrated over the coffee maker today. They could have made this easier.
When i got my first nespresso machine i thought the descaling was crazy. Had to read and follow the directions several times before i got it to work, then do the same each time i descaled. Just bought the NEXT because i thought my other one was getting too loud, and had to read and watch the video several times and i have a Masters , no PHD. Maybe that’s the problem. Really people, this should be that difficult.
If you’re stuck on this, took me a while but I finally got it to work, just unplug it and start over. Once it turned back on, I held it half shut in the unlock mode and held the button for 7 seconds. Locked it. Unlocked and held in that half closed position and held for 7 more seconds. Locked it. Pressed the button. The flashing orange button flashes a whole lot faster when you’re actually on the right track. I got the flashing orange button but couldn’t get it to work but it wasn’t the FASTEST blinking orange button lol. Goodluck guys! Edit: once it starts descaling correctly it starts brewing immediately. Didn’t have to wait around. Atleast it did for me.
This is by far my favorite comment section on UA-cam!🤣 Congrats to those who made it through this ordeal👏 I'm thinking of adding this accomplishment to my resume lol
This is basically repeating the first step twice, do not give up on holding the button the second time until it blinks orange! Release capsule Pull down into unlocked position Hold button until it starts blinking orange rapidly (for me it was about 8-9 sec) Lock it Put it unlock again Hold button again for as long as it takes until it blinks orange just like the first step (keep pressing even if light turns off after a couple seconds, do not give up it will eventually go back into the orange color as long long you keep pressing until it does) Lock it Press button once to descale P.S. I tend to hold the button down with my finger nail so I can see the color changes, when I did it with my whole finger I couldn't see. Maybe try doing it with a pen or edge of your finger so you can see :)
Thank you so much, basically their info is wrong, it's not 7 seconds but 9 seconds, if you hadn't pointed that out I would never have figured it out. Also when you hold the button down how can you see the color if your finger is covering the light.... Anyway, thank you so much!
Sweet Jesus! I literally would not have been able to complete the descaling process without all of your support. Thank you all (especially @savemarla!).
For those of you who are confused, I don't really understand because it's pretty self-explanatory lo...here is a simple tutorial for the smoothbrains in the comments: On your controller (plug into the usb port inside the bottom of the water tank), do the following combination within 5 seconds: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and Start on a controller to activate the Konami coding of the Vertuo next (not to mistaken with the special coding from the Vertuo Next-Plus). Then you must have you child baptised within 5 business days, which should make the machine illustrate the rest of the individual machine-exclusive instructions in morse code (warning that the spelling is going to be in old celtic, which does not have an accurate translator online, Fortunately, Nespresso sells little celtic boys for 10k a pop who are world-class translators. Don't worry about their cries for help and release from imprisonment, its just an inside joke from their home country. Nespresso always practices safe and fair trade, including in the human trafficking market
Followed this process, now my machine is broken. Continues to blink orange really quick. Tried everything. Thanks Nespresso for turning a simple thing into the most complicated process on the planet.
We are really sorry for the inconvenience. Please, report your problem to the technical department of the Nespresso Club in your country. The fault you describe does not necessarily mean descaling. Kind regards.
Thanks for writing out these instructions. It is very difficult to follow along with the video while you're trying to clean, descale or empty the machine so I really appreciate you.😊
So, just like with my regular coffee maker, I used cleaning mode twice to descale. 1/2 tank water, 1/8 cup white vinegar for first cycle, 1/2 tank water for second cycle. Worked wonders!
Has this vinegar method continues to work for you? Nespresso doesn't recommend using vinegar, but I kind of believe they say that so you purchase the descaler. Lol
At the very least. you all have me chuckling as I backflip and press 7 seconds… I’ve done all hints including turning machine upside down and twirling the cap punch. I’ve had the damn think for 7 years and only descaled once maybe 4 years ago. I’m done with that.
I found the solution on how to get off descaling mode , I was stuck on it and all the comments complain about it, here is how: once the descaling cycle is completed, the orange light will blink rapidly , then add another full tank of water and press the brew button once, it will finished and then stop when the tank is empty, now add another tank of water and press the brew button once, and it will rinse again and stop, keep doing these steps like for 5 to 7 cycles , the machine will stop rinsing by itself and noticed that the machine is truly cleaned and it will automatically stop and exit descaling mode by itself. Trust me it took me 3 hours to finally figured it out. 04/25/21 is my comment date.
I am happy to read all these replies. And comments. I was feeling like a bit of an idiot. It only took me two hours though to finally descale my machine. I had to call their helpdesk because the tutorials online didn’t match my machine. I had to do the descaling process twice with a guy online. He then had to send me the video that was perfect for my machine. So dumb. What are those people thinking who came up with this brilliant idea on how to descaling an Nespresso machine.
I love how the "Instructions" that come with the descaling liquid have a list of things *not* to do, and then it just repeats those in other languages. I straight-up had to just search this online, and then I get this convoluted mess? I'm still confused, because the machine doesn't close all the way when it isn't "locked," yet the video shows it all the way closed. *Now* not only do I not really know how to descale the machine, but I I don't know if my machine is also defective. It might just be that the people who didn't think to include actual instructions in an instruction manual also didn't bother to shoot more than one side-shot of the machine to show how this actually functions... Fancy coffee isn't worth this bullshit.
This is really confusing. How about we just press the coffee button after we put the descaling solution in. Rinse everything, add more water and press the coffee button again. Now your machine is clean! BOOM!
There are two people I need to meet in life, First is the 70’s porn producer that choose the music for this instructional video. And second is the design engineer that thought adding a second button for a process that needs to be preformed as frequently as descaling, complicated the visual ascetic and refused to incorporate it! One I will pat on the back and thank them for their service to humanity, the other I will punch in the face!!
I was not expecting this highly supportive help today! I was seriously going to throw it. It’s finally doing its thing. I don’t know y’all but I appreciate you.
@@nespresso LOL - please report to management that the video tutorial is confusing. I appreciate your personal efforts; you are doing your job. The video is not leading to happy customers, and money should be spent by Nespresso management to improve the tutorial. Other customers, I say other customers, are providing the support, and for a luxury product, that's not good.
The amount of rage I felt inside of me when my machine just stopped working and I realized I wouldn’t be able to use it again until I bought this special cleaner. Wouldn’t it be nice to include a sample when you buy the machine? So ridiculous all these extras you have to buy
I have this machine, and I have the Breville Precision Brewer, one of the most advanced drip brewers in the market. The precision brewer required you to just brew water with a descaling agent, and then brew with plain water to rinse. That's it. Why the heck does this need to be so complicated?

@@nespresso this coffee machine just sucks “contact our customer service” you shouldn’t have to contact customer service for something so simple like cleaning the machine. It’s just over complicated and trash.
Okay after a year of using my Vertuo Next I finally descaled it. You happy now Nespresso!? I can't wait until I can do this with a touch of an app connecting to the unit. These steps were rather ridiculous.
I have always considered myself to be a relatively intelligent person (after all, I do have an honours MBA). But after watching this video and attempting the descaling process, I started to wonder if I was suffering from old age syndrome. Then… I read the comments from the other viewers, and I breathed a sigh of relief. The video is horrible -- not only because the video is badly written and muddled, but also because the actual descaling process created by the Nespresso team is very complicated. Especially for a machine that was created so that making good tasting espressos would be very easy to make. If I was in one of Nespresso’s focus groups and I was asked “how to make the product better”, my very first response would be to add 2 additional buttons: one for cleaning and one for descaling. These are very important procedures and they should be simple to do.
I’d be fine using the same button, but just holding it for 7 seconds. I don’t get the hold it, lock it, unlock it, push button 3x fast, then lock again. Fill jar, unlock, re-lock, turn off, unplug while pushing button like you’re playing Twister, then doing it all over again? Where did the 2 pods come from if you were supposed to have emptied the machine before starting the whole process? Ack!
It’s not that hard. Unlock it, hold 7 seconds. Lock and unlock, hold 7 more seconds. Finally lock and press. Light should blink yellow both times you hold
damn, and i thought the descaling on the vertuoplus machine was confusing... nestle should add a warning on their machine, “Only PhD graduates should operate machine”
Idk I have a PhD and I got it to clean but not to descale. After I hold the button in unlocked position and then lock it and press the button, it just flashes orange. This machine is a hunk of junk!
Thank you,Valencia. Just about to bin machine or never descale ever again! Painful experience trying to follow Nespresso web site guides. Aged 10 years need more than coffee now😂
I DID IT!! ok so my machine refused to enter descaling mode and it wouldn't brew because it needed to be descaled and so I got desperate and found that if you use the cleaning mode but fill the tank with descaling solution it still achieves a similar result! Just follow it up with another cleaning round to remove any chemical residue
How does a coffee capsule keep getting in the capsule holder? She keeps saying to empty it, but is there supposed to be one in there when you’re cleaning it ?
@@nespresso How often do you have to do this because I just bought the machine and based off all the comments about the difficulty for this I’m considering returning it . I literally just took it out the box yesterday and haven’t made a cup of coffee yet and I just tried the descaling process yesterday with my Vertuo Next with just water (just to see if I could do it) by following the steps in the manual and nothing happened when I would get to the last step. Which tells me when I actually have to do it, it’s probably going to give me problems as well. Not to mention mine would not connect to the Bluetooth even after I followed the troubleshooting steps of resetting the machine and trying again.

I wonder how much money they saved by instead of giving the machine a dedicated descaling button, they came up with this insanely complicated procedure.
haha , after watching this i was already smiling in antisipation as i scrolled down to the comments section - the best part was at some point in this most convoluted procedure they actually said "hold down the button while plugging the device back in".
On the 6th of February I decided I wanted a coffee before my 7:45 AM train - the machine said it needed descaling - it's now the 9th of February and I have spent a total of probably 60 minutes trying to descale this thing and it seems like it's just on a perpetual water drain cycles that will never stop.

I’ve had my machine for a while now, and have purposely put off descaling it again because of this idiotic video and the experience I went through trying to clean my stupid machine. Well, it’s that time again because the dumb thing keeps flashing it’s little orange light at me when I try to make a cup of coffee. I will try to follow the instructions people have been kind enough to list here this time. I learned my lesson.
What a bad experience! First, I went to buy descaling agent. After that, a shop assistant tell me to scan a qr code and self-study from the VDO. Then I went home and tried to do it. I found that the machine in the VDO was different from my machine. I contacted to the service by phone and he sent me another VDO that was compatible to my machine. I got stucked during descaling process. I recontacted to the technician service and resolved the problem using approximately 30 minutes. Finally, I’ve enjoyed drinking Starbucks since then.
I went through this ridiculous process and now my machine has water pooling in the capsule holder, and when i press the coffee button with a pod in it goes to start up then stops and the light starts blinking orange. hasn't made a coffee since. So frustrated with this machine.

Yes, I was wondering why they do the same step twice with no mention of why or if it needs done twice. Whoever compiled this video needs the axe. I almost shot my machine with a rifle.
Hello Nespresso, I wish I could say "great tutorial", but a lot of steps are repeating and/or redundant (we emptied the capsules like three times) and it becomes a head scratcher, as in ... "which step are we now?"

@Nespresso I cannot fathom why you let this model hit sales stores with this cleaning procedure. I splurged on myself and bought this coffee maker because I’m a mother of two under two & I wanted a convenient pod coffee maker because my life with my littles is already absolute chaos, daily. I have loved my Nespresso maker more than any other coffee since having it, but this cleaning process makes me wish that I had never “splurged” on myself for it at all. My machine is unusable until I figure it out, meaning that I’m without ANY coffee & I have no idea when I’ll have time to spend over an hour on cleaning a coffee maker when I can barely keep up with the laundry, although I don’t sit down all day. Thanks for absolutely nothing Nespresso! Definitely didn’t need the disappointment or the stress.

My advices: 1- Don't call nespresso= waste of time (they'll read you the manual) 2- Don't listen to the video; read the comments instead 3-To exit descaling mode continue to add water in the tank (could take you 8 loads or more...) until the button stop flashing. (That was my problem personnaly and I found the solution in the comments thank you)
Holy crap. Just did this, and for the love of coffee drinkers everywhere, "add a dang descaling button / rinse button." Heck, put it on a toggle switch on it. "One way descales, the other rinses/runs water straight through." You made this way too irritating to do. I feel like I'm doing the infinite lives cheat code on Grand Theft Auto 3. ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️➡️⬅️⬆️
My vertuo next overheats after I’ve cleaned it so then I had to wait for it to cool down before descaling it. Cause right now when I try and enter descaling mode it blinks orange twice then white and it does nothing
If I had seen this video before making my purchase, rest assured, I'd have not bought this machine. You pay for the descaling kit and have to jump through hoops to clean the machine?! Seriously?!
So I just got off the phone with their customer service rep. Here are the steps:
1- add 500 ml of water to your tank
2- add descaling solution
3 - place water tank in its place on the machine
4 - turn on machine
* the coffee button should be white and non-blinking*
5 - Open the lid and close it but DO NOT LOCK IT
6 - press the coffee button for seven (7) seconds (or until the coffee button turns orange and blinks rapidly)
7 - Lock the machine
8 - Unlock but DO NOT OPEN the machine
9 - press the coffee button for 7 seconds again - *yes , you have to do it again* (the coffee button light should turn off and come back on orange and blinking)
10 - lock the machine once more (I know... redundant)
11- Press the button normally and the descaling process should start.
*once descaling is finished, the water tank should be empty*
12 - wash water tank with soap and water then add fresh drinking water (fill it to the top)
13 - press the coffee button once (light should still be blinking orange) and it'll rinse the machine.
***Important: if your tank runs out of water and the light is still orange and blinking, REFILL the water tank and press the button one more time. Keep doing this until the light becomes stable and white. (I had to do this process twice, so hang in there.)***
14 - Once the machine is still and the light is white and non blinking, congratulations, you have successfully descaled your machine and survived to tell the tale. :)
15 - Let the machine air dry before you use it.
Voila!
Best of luck to all of you!

I purchased my Nespresso machine about 8 months ago and enjoyed many cups of coffee. Last month I followed the instructions in this video. Today, my doctors here at the Institute say I'm making good progress and that I can now use a spoon to eat my jello!
😂
@nespresso - this is impossible. Please consider remaking your tutorual video so it doesn't repeatedly reference taking out the used capsule and unlocking and relocking more times than necessary. I have been at this for over an hour and I still haven't successfully started the descale cycle.
That the same thing I had in my head. If you ignore the capsule part it gets a little easier
Or add a descale, clean, and reset button. Minimal buttons just means more complicated button combinations. Hell, add a descale command through your phone. They already do phone notifications.
Agree! It's maddening!
Yes. This is ridiculous
Love how Nespresso’s team ignored this comment🙄
I never knew that I would have to risk my life for a cup of coffee. Why does entering descaling mode have to be complicated like this?

The Fix for the Orange Blinking Light!
This was for my Vertuo Next machine. I went through the descaling process in this poorly made video above (has a bunch of random clips pieced together that don't fit), and then somewhere near the end it all went wrong and I couldn't get rid of the orange linking light. I tried everything. There's no way to reset it.
The Fix
- You need to let it run through tons of bins of water, until eventually it stops on it's own. It went through between 6-8 for me, I lost count and it took ~40min.
- You fill the bin with water, re-attach to the machine and press the main button (the one blinking orange) just once.
- It will then heat up and start spewing out more of the fresh water
- You repeat this continuously (It took 6-8 full bins of water for me)
- Eventually the machine will completely stop and you'll see a white light! (instead of the blinking orange one)!
- Then you are done and everything is back to normal!
having same problem rn, already went through like 5 jugs of water. when will it end :O hate this machine
Tried descaling and following the instructions in this video to no effect. Went with your approach and it worked out after three cycles!
Thank god for you! I was ready to biff this stupid machine
I can’t thank you enough for this !!!! Honestly I lost count (maybe 7-8 full bins of water) I was soooo happy when I saw the white light.. god bless you 🌹🌹
I would like to say thank you, I have been googling and researching how the heck to get the light to go away. After 8 TIMES, the white light finally came back
For anyone who is having trouble brewing and cant pinpoint the issue
Sometimes the spinning mechanism on top that punctures the pod gets stuck look out for that..
If so unplug the machine and spin that puncturing mechanism and it'll brew once again

Omg!! I Love you!!!
Thank you this helped!!!
You saved my life!!
I punched it when it started making the first angry noise, but didn't carry on with the usual whiring. Probably this
The descaling process is not only unjustifiably complicated and very poorly explained.
Wtf kind of confusing ass instructions are these?? You’d think for as much as this costs, they’d have the decency to make it easier on us.
Confusing AF - which they wrote that in the bluethooth program on your app. save use alot of trouble if that was that easy.

YES!!!
Here are the actual descaling instructions:

Pull down into unlocked position
Hold button until it starts blinking orange rapidly (for me it was about 8-9 sec)

up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and Start on a controller to activate the Konami coding of the Vertuo next (not to mistaken with the special coding from the Vertuo Next-Plus). You know what I mustered the courage to do this, it cost me 20 minutes of my life and boy it was an emotional roller coaster.

@@nespresso she’s talking to the people of the comments Nespresso, not you
@@nespresso LOL - please report to management that the video tutorial is confusing. I appreciate your personal efforts; you are doing your job. The video is not leading to happy customers, and money should be spent by Nespresso management to improve the tutorial. Other customers, I say other customers, are providing the support, and for a luxury product, that's not good.
@@nespressoAmber is not talking to you. I seriously considering smashing my Nespresso machine.
The amount of rage I felt inside of me when my machine just stopped working and I realized I wouldn’t be able to use it again until I bought this special cleaner. Wouldn’t it be nice to include a sample when you buy the machine? So ridiculous all these extras you have to buy
You can use vinegar and water
I have this machine, and I have the Breville Precision Brewer, one of the most advanced drip brewers in the market. The precision brewer required you to just brew water with a descaling agent, and then brew with plain water to rinse. That's it. Why the heck does this need to be so complicated?
Hi Christopher, we appreciate your feedback regarding our descaling process. If you do require assistance with descaling, please contact us directly at 800-562-1465 and a Machine Expert will be happy to assist.
@@nespresso this coffee machine just sucks “contact our customer service” you shouldn’t have to contact customer service for something so simple like cleaning the machine. It’s just over complicated and trash.
@@nespresso Provided you speak Spanish
My goodness- I need a doctorate degree and 87 years of experience to do this
Yesss I’m about to throw it in the trash
Okay after a year of using my Vertuo Next I finally descaled it. You happy now Nespresso!? I can't wait until I can do this with a touch of an app connecting to the unit. These steps were rather ridiculous.
Thank you for your feedback!🙂
Ack!
@@ckpetrillo Exactly my question - first they say empty the machine and then a pod pops out. WHAT???
Yet they don’t care and don’t reply to anyone. I bet we could start a class action lawsuit.
It’s not that hard. Unlock it, hold 7 seconds. Lock and unlock, hold 7 more seconds. Finally lock and press. Light should blink yellow both times you hold
Mine flashed orange but this worked thanks :D
Thank you Jesus. This man deserves a Nobel price
Ya doesn't work. I unlock it, hold for 7 seconds, but it just turns off and back on with the blinking yellow light.
@@malcolmrff so mine sometimes shuts off and I have to do it again. 7 seconds. Lock. Unlock. Lock. Tap the coffee three times. Repeat. Tada!
Zetar, you are probably a genius ... the rest of us, mortals, are still trying to descaling the coffee bot.
damn, and i thought the descaling on the vertuoplus machine was confusing... nestle should add a warning on their machine, “Only PhD graduates should operate machine”
Imagine being that stupid lmao
Imagine making this take most of your day on your day off work? 😂
Idk I have a PhD and I got it to clean but not to descale. After I hold the button in unlocked position and then lock it and press the button, it just flashes orange. This machine is a hunk of junk!
A BS in engineering must be equivalent to almost any PhD because I don't find this any confusing at all.
I have never seen worst tutorial, I feel like I need to graduate from Harvard to complete this process properly! 😂
How does a coffee capsule keep getting in the capsule holder? She keeps saying to empty it, but is there supposed to be one in there when you’re cleaning it ?
Hi Luis, it is just a reminder to ensure there are no capsules in the chamber when you are descaling the machine.
Hi Luis, we recommend descaling your machine every 2-4 months. We are sorry for the issues occurring with your machine. We would recommend contacting our Technical Team directly for further assistance. You can reach them by calling 0800 442 442(UK) or 1800 812 660(ROI), and selecting option 3. Many thanks.
@@nespresso Thats not a reminder! Just say REMINDER THERE SHOULD NO LONGER BE A POD, BECAUSE WE REMINDED YOU DURING EACH OF THE LAST THREE STEPS SO NOW IT WOULD BE HIGHLY IMPLAUSIBLE THERE IS A CAPSULE IN HERE and press on. What a silly confusion to create.
@@BlueNGold09 Make sure your phone has bluetooth turned on in the settings folder. If that doesn't fix it, try changing the airplane setting. I have not tried downloading the app, but it seems like a lot of work for no benefit.
I wonder how much money they saved by instead of giving the machine a dedicated descaling button, they came up with this insanely complicated procedure.
I bet it is not even about money or usability, but design and "elegance" . :)
haha , after watching this i was already smiling in antisipation as i scrolled down to the comments section - the best part was at some point in this most convoluted procedure they actually said "hold down the button while plugging the device back in".
On the 6th of February I decided I wanted a coffee before my 7:45 AM train - the machine said it needed descaling - it's now the 9th of February and I have spent a total of probably 60 minutes trying to descale this thing and it seems like it's just on a perpetual water drain cycles that will never stop.
I've just wasted another 30 minutes adding water to the tank for it to never actually finish the process. I'm going to return it now👍

What the FAWK!! All this just to drink coffee? I thought I bought this machine for convenience to stop going to Starbucks !
Who else feels like they’re on a damn bomb squad when trying to follow these instructions?

@@nespresso these instructions are ass.
I went through this ridiculous process and now my machine has water pooling in the capsule holder, and when i press the coffee button with a pod in it goes to start up then stops and the light starts blinking orange. hasn't made a coffee since. So frustrated with this machine.

To start descaling:
-Preheat (either unlock and lock or press the button once)
-unlock lid press and hold button 7seconds the light will flash red
-lock and press 3 times in 2 seconds
Voilà!
Thank you so much!
That will start the cleaning cycle and NOT the descaling mode
Thank god! You just did it for me
Thank goodness for your instructions…it finally did the descaling! Struggled the whole day ,followed Nespresso video all day without success . Not good Nespresso!
Thank you that video is terrible
This is the most convoluted guide I’ve ever seen!
it’s truly amazing that the machine needs to complete the full cleaning process and there is no way out of it. I did this by accident and had to waste two full liters of water just because?????
why am I forced to do the whole process and can’t cancel it? amazing

@@nespresso or maybe avoid us calling you guys twice (one to help with these horrible videos and a second to suggest) when your team is already reading these comments.
How about a switch on the bottom of the machine that enters descaling mode. And idk the light is like blue or something to verify you’re in it. And then boom just press that and it does it. Rather than needing to go through the SpongeBob sequence of blowing the perfect bubble.
I followed these instructions and still having problems! I’m sending this back. Drip coffee machines wouldn’t tell you to do this.

Just now reading all the comments. If it weren’t so sad it would be hysterical.
I pressed the button for a minute and it never blinked and no water is coming out. Regretting this decision.
WTF??? I’m just going to buy a new machine when it’s time to descale it. So much easier 😂

I am sure what made most people confused, as me, was that Nespresso collected ALL different maintenance, descaling and cleaning tutorials in the SAME video...
Yes, I was wondering why they do the same step twice with no mention of why or if it needs done twice. Whoever compiled this video needs the axe. I almost shot my machine with a rifle.

@@nespresso if there is a way to descale with fewer steps than this guide, then yes.

My advices:
1- Don't call nespresso= waste of time (they'll read you the manual)
2- Don't listen to the video; read the comments instead
3-To exit descaling mode continue to add water in the tank (could take you 8 loads or more...) until the button stop flashing. (That was my problem personnaly and I found the solution in the comments thank you)
Oh my gosh it’s still taking me so long I’ve had to fill the water up like 5 times so far and it just continues to stay on descale?
@@RonDMC85 Continue to put water! It's weird, but the button will stop flashing eventualy. I hope that it will work for you too.
