I think Lloyd has more knowledge about the bombers than Caro ever will

maybe when he was playing,that was a long time ago,and he often says he's not down there anymore...
& afl footy in general especially as he's played it at the elite level and she's just a journalist. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Wasn't the biggest fan of Lloyd in his playing days, mostly because he always seemed to kick bags of goals against the Hawks, and I won't even mention Brad Sewell, but I always respected him because of how great of a player he was.
He is VERY knowledgeable when it comes to our great game.
Good on him for firing back here.

I agree. Last year he suggested a one off super season played over 2020/21 with 17 games last year and 17 games this year + finals and he was mocked by a few people for that idea. Seeing Covid is still ongoing it might have made things a lot easier for fixturing.
He is like Cameron Ling, they both love their clubs but when it comes to commenting on the game they put away their club loyalties. I have seen no Essendon bias from him whatsoever. Wilson is only doing this because she is nervous she might not see her beloved Tigers playing finals. I don't know why Lloyd sticks around with this mob. He is one of the better footy analysts going around.
To me he is my #1 trusted opinion in AFL media. Absolute jet.
Honestly has never come across as a "journo" through his time at nine.
Always seems to have a level head on his shoulders and doesn't "go after" anyone.
We need more people like him on the panels. Not pot stirrers, making more drama for ratings.
I could only dream of having Lloyds calmness and composure, the way he handled that was impressive. Good on him for sticking up for himself

I agree with Lloydy...he's trying to keep it low key...we've played out of our skins this year when most had us bottom 4...with a young squad you don't want that to be the thing you're focusing on...it's about cups and sustained excellence...by all means enjoy the wins and if we get there, the experience of a finals series but maintain the hunger...it's not negative to think we're not winning it this year, it's realistic...missing out on finals might be just the thing to keep them fired up...make it or not I'm super proud of the boys...they look to be building something special...
@@andrewrogers5962 we were picked by some to finish as low as 18th and bottom 4 for most, and the fact is that we r in a pretty good spot to finish 8th or even 7th if things go our way, so yeh id say we had played out of skins considering the list and the development of players. For example if u said a the end of last season that darcy parish would finish potentially in the top 5 of the brownlow u would have said ur insane. So massive development for an extremely young team.
Can't think of a player I hated more but respect as much as a commentator and good guy as Lloyd. Shows how bias for your team affects your judgement (Hawks fan).
He was proven to be right as well, whether the club got ahead of itself or not, the Bombers have definitely declined big time this year and last year is looking like more of an aberration than natural progress.

I reckon these journos sometimes forget they're sitting with one of the greatest forwards of all time. Not an Essendon fan but Matthew Lloyd has forgotten more football than these journos will ever know.
Caro was being a knob. Lloyd is one of the sharpest commentators in the game - and certainly doesn’t comment through Essendon tinted glasses.

Lloyd is so level headed. One of my favourite AFL media personalities.
She's so used to saying whatever she wants and other person saying nothing back so was nice to see Lloydy put her in her place

Lloyd hates "sarcasm". The only other time I've seen him like this is when Hutchy applauded him sarcastically for helping a player with goal kicking
He is right on most stuff he says and I agree with him on most things. One of the better footy heads out there that gives unbias opinions
Caro was being pretty condescending there. Instead of building her own counter argument with evidence or insight, she essentially just belittled his opinion. Fair call out from Lloydy.

He played in our last winning grand final with some of our finest players, then played in a losing grand final with the same players. He played in the greatest comeback win. He was apart of our last winning and losing finals team in 04. He then became our captain. Broke his leg. Copped criticism. Retired then 2 or 3 years later had to watch our club go through utter turmoil. Watched one of his best mates nearly neck himself because of it. Watched special players leave. He's seen, done, watched and bitten his tongue long enough.
He is right in every aspect, if we set ourselves up with unrealistic expectations then if we don't reach it we have greater disappointment which may lead us further away from our end goal. Caro hasn't liked the club since 2012. She does have good points but at times she goes too far. When people do it to her she doesn't want to hear it so well done lloydy for standing up for himself about time someone did.
Wilson’s ego is bigger than the MCG, have never understood why any TV channel would want her so called expert comments & opinions.

Well done Lloydy!! Called out Caro for her hypocrisy. Stuck to his guns even when she demeaned his feelings on her attitude towards him and then she had a go at Hutchy for backing Lloyd up.
I am a Carlton supporter. I hated Lloyd as a player, for obvious reasons. However, he is my number one go to commentator. He doesn't lie. He knows where players are at. Always gives honest feedback. I don't mind Kane either, but does get it wrong at times. Roos is very good, too. Everyone else is very ordinary.

Lloyd is 100% right. Brisbane 2009. Surprised made finals. Did well in the finals. We backed the team too much and traded key players, didn’t make finals for 10 years. (Yes the Suns expansion taking some Ket lions players didn’t help) but the point still remains false positive finals births aren’t ideal
Once again the difference between players and non players is clearly on display. Non playing analysts will never truly understand a true football mentality. Get rid of them.

As an Essendon supporter, we never had high hopes this year, we expected to finish bottom 4, so the fact that we've done as well as we have is great, if we make the finals, absolutely fantastic! if we dont, we've had a great year as is, so as usual Caro is wrong and well done Lloydy for not backing down, he knows what the go is

The Eagles midfield has been pedestrian for two years now how on earth did they make this list????
On reputation and past form, this WC fan would place them 3rd on that list behind Bulldogs (Honestly, Bulldogs and Demons are a coinflip). On 2020 form alone, they probably don't belong on this list.

Every Bombers fan I've spoken to has said pretty much exactly what Lloyd is saying here. We would actually prefer to miss finals this year and build on it than make them and get humiliated in the first round and think we are better than what we are. We've had a very nice draw this year but haven't really beaten any top club other than the Bulldogs and a very up and down West Coast. We've seen enough first round finals losses in the last 15 years. Falling into 8th spot might be good for the club but it might be damaging to the team

Why is Caro allowed to act like such a child and still be given a voice? Lloydy did the right thing and I hope more people call her out for being such a cow so often. Cornes does almost exactly the same thing, he’s just a little less personally belittling to people.

As a Bombers fan, this season has been a complete bonus. Certainly didn't expect us to be winning many games. Next year or the year after, I expect us to be seriously in finals contention.

I like both of them here. I think Caro is right in that Lloydy as a baked on Essendon fan can be a tad pessimistic at times - but I also agree with Lloydy that where we finish this year is largely inconsequential. It probably didn't need to get as heated as it did, but it's good tele!

If you read between Caro's words she does apologise and recognise Lloyd's reasons for his stance. Sensitive and well handled at the end
I think Smithy has been banged up this year, his last 3 weeks I think has been good as far as effort is concerned he just hasn’t been the tackling machine he was when he first came over. Shiel has played well the last two his first week back against the giants was a shocker but he was coming back from injury.
