    Wow! it's been a while since I've seen such a detailed and well-made tutorial. Instead of just listing algs, you've shown plenty of example solves, resources, and explained things in an easy-to-understand way. My favorite part of all however is the structure you provided, a feature which seems to be lacking in most tutorials. The effort in this video is clear: You've provided all the steps and plotted out a structured roadmap. I couldn't wait for this video to come out after your initial video on APB, and I must say it did not disappoint! worth a sub ;).

      @@kyh148 I'm not tracking time yet. But before I left this comment a month i tried a few timed solves and got like some sub 40 solves by knowing 0 of the APB's algs and not being used to block build at all. My goal is to learn apb in this order: pair creation, lexus, misoriented eopair, oriented eopair, zbll. And I'll start officially tracking time after I finish learning lexus

    I've been experimenting with APB OH for the past day and after just one day of practicing, I average around 25 with it, while being around 13 with CFOP. So far it has been interesting and I think it might be good for OH so I will probably try to get fast with it.

    Is this really the best way to follow after the 2x2x3 block? Why not solve the last cross piece along with eo and then solve the other 2 f2l pairs? Also, how far into the method can a really experienced solver realistically plan during inspection?

    • @piershanson1784
      @piershanson1784 Рік тому

      while only time will tell how good this follow up is, Petrus users can plan the 2x2x3 in inspection, and possibly more. Solving eo pair into lxs is about 15 moves. Meanwhile inserting the dr edge with eo is 719 algs (source: trangium batch solver) with an average move count of 6.6(similar to eo pair), after which you need to insert 2 pairs in the same number of moves as lxs takes (around 8). I believe that the petrus method of eo, the square then pair is a bit more movecount efficient, but is usually done intuitively as it would otherwise be a lot more algs with harder eo recognition (since you have 2 edges rather than 1 without white or yellow)

    • @piershanson1784
      @piershanson1784 Рік тому

      I said it was 719 algs, but I typed something wrong, and it’s actually 135. The new average movecount is 5.7. Then you solve the two pairs which is around 7 moves each if you’re good at influencing pairs which, in conjunction with 3 auf’s is around 22 moves total. Eopair lxs is around 15.2 moves + 4 to make the pair and 2 auf’s is around 20.5 moves with better eo recognition.

    A fun method and a great introduction to APB.
    Q. Would it not be a little more efficient to solve the BR pair in Roux style rather than int F2L and then do DFDB; if not why not?

    • @bruce4139
      @bruce4139 Рік тому

      so I'm not a roux solver but I'm thinking that its because it gives you less places to look while you're trying to find 2 pieces as oppose to finding one piece at a time and yes I'm aware that we're solving both edges but I'm not sure if its the same but this is just my hypothesis

  • @jerryq1837
    @jerryq1837 Рік тому +2

    Would doing EO first be any good? I’m a ZZ solver and I’m wondering if you can do APB like this:
    EOLine
    Left Block
    Make and insert pair
    LXS
    ZBLL
    Would doing it like this be any good? It avoids the difficult slice finger tricks in EOPair and also give a more ergonomic first step?

    • @skwerl_y
      @skwerl_y Рік тому +1

      Doing EO first could limit how far you can plan during inspection, there are my two cents

    • @LiamHighducheck
      @LiamHighducheck  Рік тому +2

      We have considered this and short answer: it’s worse. Doing EO first does limit how far you can plan in inspection. You don’t want to avoid the slice finger tricks because they become very fast and allow for some very efficient solutions (so much so they even get used in CFOP OLL and PLL nowadays). There are also problems with switching between R/L turning which is a common thing in ZZ solving. Making and inserting the pair without solving anything else is more wasteful and at that point you’re better off just doing regular ZZ or squall. Also I don’t think EOLine>Left Block is more ergonomic than FB>DFDB

    • @LiamHighducheck
      @LiamHighducheck  11 місяців тому

      You could also use full OLS (a touch over 500 algs) to solve the last pair and OCLL at the same time. Winter variation (and summer variation since you could also end in a split pair) would be a decent beginner version of full OLS but I couldn’t say it’s better than just LS>OCLL>PLL at that point. Easy cases would probably be worth it tho

    At the highest level, how important is it that the pair creation step gets done 2gen? I was wondering cuz some of the cases where both pieces are at the bottom of the right side look like they might be easier to solve with s or wide f moves. The downside would of course be harder eo prediction and the fact that the pair isn’t always made in the 4 given locations. (e.g. the case where the corner is solved and correctly oriented but the edge is oriented at DR could be solved with S R S’ instead of R’ U R’ U)

  • @jukezy4669
    @jukezy4669 Рік тому +3

    Surely this method would be worse than cfop because of how difficult it is to do look ahead with this with all the unnatural s and m moves. With cfop, although it has a high move count, you do the moves unbelievably fast with the easy look ahead. With apb, you have high tps but long pauses at eo and zbll.

    • @theonlybass8947

    i feel like the most advanced version of APB would be making br pair while doing partial eo to give a lower move-count pair plus EO pair. then while doing that also doing a solution that gives you a favourable LxS. this would be often cancelable into LxS due to it being predominantly 2 gen(so not necessarily always doing the last 2-3 moves of inserting the pair into the back).

    • @unrealxela
      @unrealxela Рік тому +1

      Its the other way around, typically you want to stay in "home grip" as much as possible meaning Rwide moves would be much quicker. Its also possible because the right layer is free to move all the time until EOPair and so on

    On the eo step of the beginners method, can't you just check the orientation of the u/d edges and if an odd number of them are bad then the last f2l edge is also bad?

    • @chinjunsi7752
      @chinjunsi7752 Рік тому

      There are 5 U/D edges and only 1 f2l edges so recognizing the odd one first then determining the case is faster than counting the U/D edges and then checking if it's odd/even AND THEN you still need to find the f2l edges to start executing the algs

    • @LiamHighducheck
      @LiamHighducheck  Рік тому

      Yes you could do this but the problem comes when you can’t tell where the F2L edge is. I taught it this way so solvers get used to checking the F2L edge first and eventually track it during Pair Creation, and while it’s true you only need it’s location, recognising it’s orientation as well is a good habit and will speed up your recognition in the long run. Also looking at the orientation of the F2L edge (which you might as well do since you already have to track it’s location) means you have to look at one less U/D edge, for example you could look at the U edges+FR and wouldn’t have to ever look in DR to recognise that edge.

  • @SamanZeb-il9dc
    @SamanZeb-il9dc Рік тому

    for pair insertion couldn't you just insert in a F2L way like CFOP with only R* and U*?

    • @LiamHighducheck
      @LiamHighducheck  Рік тому

      I think you’ll find if the pair is oriented that’s what ends up happening naturally, if it’s misoriented it’s better to get into the habit of only pairing the pieces for when you eventually learn EOPair

      I’m assuming you mean inserting DR during the first half of beginner LXS. You can use inserts like S R2’ S’ R2 or S’ U2’ S but the RU version are generally faster and most consistent + the RU versions are triggers that get used all over full LXS so it’s good to get used to using them.

      For methods that ALWAYS end in ZBLL (like APB), yes, although they are the hardest get to the point where they become worth it so it’s recommended to learn them last (as learning other ZBLL sets first will provide more immediate value)
