The entitled behaviour of the climbing teams has been shameful. Most would have been well aware they were taking advantage of the community by leaving their garbage but nothing was ever done voluntarily. The sherpas are the hero’s.
The amount of trash and abuse is sickening. Ban commercial, outside companies from doing expeditions. Allow only local, resident, whereas to lead and control expeditions.
Nepalese government has Everest as their cash cow. They are not going to do anything that curtails their ability to make money . The greatest ability to promote safety would be to not allow people who don’t know what they are doing to even attempt the climb. They can throw all the technology they want at the mountain, but if they don’t police the access to the mountain, all the poop bags in the world won’t change anything. People will die and they will leave a mountain of shit behind.
When I climbed Everest the Sherpa are a different breed .they carry everything so my personal Sherpa I gave him 10k dollars when I finished that hike. He said nobody tips them and they only make a few grand risking their lives everyday .
I have read often times the Sherpa's pay is extremely low. Most of their pay are tips. It's nice you tipped. I would assume this was a generous tip? I truly do not know what is average or generous. I have also read there have been people who either didn't tip or gave their Sherpa barely anything. Nepal is a poor country. They have commercialized climbing Mt Everest. Some climbers have very little experience and climb anyway because of the commercialization. So many have died either for the money or rich people wanting to gloat with friends over the fact they climbed Mt Everest. Who would ever want to do this in a line with 100 other people? If one person in line becomes ill, untethering to get around that person is a big risk in itself. If I were a professional mountaineer, Mt Everest would no longer be appealing.

Better idea would be to police the agencies that offer the trips, ensuring that they are vetting prospective climbers for suitability and experience with challenging climbs. There are companies that do this anyway but the lure of a fairly hefty sum of money means some companies will overlook this in favour of simply taking anyone who has a big enough bank account. “A bit of a head scratcher” when talking about the yaks and reduction of helicopters. No, no tf it is not a head scratcher. Whoever wrote the script for this video is absolutely apart of the problem. Everest is not your yearly vacation destination, it is not where you go to base camp to spend a week when you want to experience the wilderness. And unless youre fully committed to devoting every second of your time to climbing preparation (no lounging on couches and sipping tea while having a laugh) or fully devoted to the support system of those climbers, then you don’t freaking belong at base camp. The reversion to yaks makes perfect sense, the issue is that there is too many people on the mountain and too many of those people are completely care free. It is that simple, there is too many people. If you have an issue with traveling by yak and were expecting a helicopter transport so you can get an easy ride all the way to base camp, then you don’t belong on the mountain in the first place. The trek to base camp with all your tents, food and water, and climbing gear or materials has stood as a proving ground for decades. If you have an issue with doing that trek the “old fashioned way”, then you don’t belong on the mountain.
All climbers should be pay a bond to cover the cost of removing all their rubbish and abandoned gear. Also every climber must have reached a suitable standard.
Such a shame, for what’s happened at Everest. I’m glad the Napli government has de-commercialized it. Denali has been better protected, or so I hear-because they don’t allow commercial guides. Everyone has to be an experienced mountaineer to even gain access to Denali.

My bro and I would climb St. Helens as a warmup climb for Rainier. My freshman year in college, we did St. Helens late, in June. At the summit there were all these blue, green, yellow and brown patches. There is red snow in the PNW. I thought how cool, it isn't just a red algae. Digging deeper, I found it was human shit and toilet paper. As his Eagle Scout project, my brother proposed removing it all. The Forest Service said there were tons. I wondered how it would be removed. The day she blew up. I knew.
It’s ridiculous how many people are just willing to throw their life away over an accomplishment they won’t live to brag about. And people with young kids and elderly parents that need them. So selfish.
I did the Everest Trek in 1979. Even then, Base Camp was notorious for being an emormous pile of litter and abandoned equipment. I was advised to go up to Kala Pattar on Pumori's flank, and keep climbing until you couldn't. (This was on bare rock and involved nothing remotely technical.) At about 18,600 feet it started to get difficult, so I stopped. A tiny sliver of the South Col was visible at that point. A glorious view in every direction!

I've been thinking about the rubbish problem. I think they should make a rule that every person must hand in 5 kg worth of trash on their way out. If they don't hand in trash, they will be fined. It doesn't matter if someone else picked up the trash for you, as long as you hand it in. If your whole team hands in a dead body, then you will all be exempt. This way, the place will be clean in no time.
i feel like they should be required to do it themselves because otherwise they will exploit the sherpas to do it like they make them carry everything else

Don't know the first thing about Mountain Climbing but I can say this, the amount of people in that line approaching the summit will one day be the cause of a major disaster on Everest. The amount of people that already die on that mountain is enough. When you take a death trap that is for people in the best shape and the best at what they do in the world and you open it for money and allow people on that mountain have no business on that mountain in the first place, you are asking for a disaster. I'm sure that the best guides have already said it. I'm sure that some of the best guides quit and said to hell with the money. They know what's on the way and want no part of it.
Certified summiting of three other 7,000+ meter peaks (of which there are dozens in the Himalayas) before you even get to go to Everest. It would spread around the work for guides and benefits to the local economy away from that one mountain (Everest), and it would reduce crowding and accidents on Everest because only proven, tried and tested climbers would get to even be there. The 'mystique' of summiting Everest would go back to climbers who have earned it by previous hard mountaineering experience and previous support to the local economy.

When you want to summit Everest. First you spend 100,000 dollars or more to “buy” a permit. It goes downhill from there.

They should make firm rules on the amount of people who can climb it each year.
It's such a beautiful part of the world.Whenever a place becomes a destination,there's going to be trash,everywhere.💛

Every climber must be forced to bring back 15-20lb of waste (empty bottles, plastics, bags etc) and not leave if for others...
It's actually 20 lbs. of poop& trash that climbers have to carry back down.
@cecileroy557 Now it is, but this should be an extra load.
But the you would have piles of shit n garbage there too! 🤢🤮😕

You presented a great video. I have watched a few and read about the issues now present with Mt Everest. Oh my gosh I didnt know it is littered this much. Thats entitlement at its finest!
Every year we are told that Everest has changed forever… yet it’s the same old issues just more of them happening. Too many people waste avalanches death falls stupid expeditions, unqualified climbers, disrespecting sherpas government greed and corruption etc etc ..
