I used CVT fluid. I bought 3 one litre bottles and used all of it. The Honda manual say it should take about 2.8 litres when replacing, but it took more.
Thanks for the vid, though I found it afterward. I did three drain and fills on a friend's 09 Civic Hybrid today. Watched all the wrong videos first (non-hybrid and non-cvt) got underneath and was lost. Super simple though and very easy to get to. I was in my driveway with floor jack and jack stands and the same funnel and it was a breeze. Hopefully it takes care of her tranny issues. Took around 3 quarts of Honda CVT fluid each time (more the first time because it was low to begin with). I had 9 quarts and it took every bit of them, exactly. Her mechanic said it needed a new tranny and apparently didn't even check the fluid because it was low off the stick. Grr...
Good luck! My 2008 is at 230k with no issues ever other then regular wear parts and an o2 sensor. Guy before me changed the hybrid battery right before i bought it at 150k. Been a great car so far. Nearly paid for it self with the money i have saved in gas
Good video ! How many liters of oil is poured ? Is the procedure shown sufficient? Are there any errors in the computer when changing the oil? Thanks in advance !
Yo what's a CVT the Honda genuine is trash go to the synthetic. Y'all so it takes more than 3 takes 3 and a little bit more.. also about filling out the drain hole there's actually another hole I'm not sure if feeling at the drain hole can be done or is recommended I don't know but yeah there's another hole back there
+Michael Leighton Thanks buddy for fast answer I changed my fluid today owner manual was saying 3 US QT .I drive came back to home =I stopped car and I waited first raditor fan and I turn off car waited 60 second it is under low I dont know why ? how many US QT you added, I think 3 qt was wrong to me.
Thats incorrect, there is a filer on the outside of the trans along the transmission cooling lines. Its a inline filter, easy and accesable from the bottom to change. Honda part number 25430-plr-003
i have a shudder ( vibration ) in cold start and initial slow rpms . When i gave it to honda they say its because some one changed transimission fluid to normal automatic one not the CVT one . The engineer also added saying if we change it to CVT it may completely stop working , i mean the vehicle might not move . I am confused , why cant he change the oil again .
+itsmebryang interesting question, when you change the transmission fluid not all the fluid drains out, half of it stays in the gearbox. The engineer must be worried about mixing the two different fluids. Did he say whether you could drop the transmission and drain all the old fluid out
Michael Leighton thanks for the reply Michael ( was not expecting as this is a very old post ) . I have collected the vehicle back from the service centre , They have changed the CVT oil upon my authorisation but the problem still persist . Also there is a missing power ( jerk ) while driving , This is intermittent. Any inputs on this is much appreciated .
itsmebryang to be honest I'm not sure why it's not working now that they replaced the fluid with cvt fluid. you may need to do a google search on how the Honda cvt transmission works.
Michael Leighton anything coming to your head ..please suggest . now the vibration on cold start is manageable but this missing while driving is more irritating.
@@bryangopan I have the same jerking movement on my Honda Civic hybrid. What ended up happening? I know this is two years ago and I may not get a reply.
Amishron61 although you may not use a torque wrench to put a drain plug back in, it is best that he demonstrated doing so because. if you over torque it you can cause damage to multiple things and if its not tight enough it will thread out causing serious damage. Good job Michael on the video only complaint from me is how much fluid does it hold? what kind of fluid? and is there any additives they recommend? thanks
I believe there is a filter inside the transmission, but you only need to replace it when the transmission is overhauled. All you should need to do is replace the CVT transmission fluid every 40,000 km

yes 49Nm is what Honda specifies
Great video quick and to the point. I only wished you would have at least said the torque specs and volume but I found them in the comments.
Glad you enjoyed it
also did you use CVT fluid or ATF? how many liters you replace? thanks

thanks for video Michael, but I have more questions... as most of the people...
what kind of oil did you use? ATF sp 2042?

I want to buy one with 129k miles. Hows urs held up? Any major problems?
Great video! Thank you Michael. What is the torque setting for the drain plug? Do you know where I can find the setting - i.e. what document?

Do I check level with car off or on???
If you mean off or on the jacks stands
You check the level off the jacks stands on a level surface
So, there is no need to reset anything, just drain the fluid and pore the new?

how many qts ?
+Thelastairbenderhate hi, about 2.8 litres (3 qts) should do it.
Wouldn't hurt to have alittle extra
You recomend valvoline Cvt oil ?
I have only ever used the Honda CVT fluid and have had no problems
Whats its oil capacity i mean how many litres
About 3 litres, but some extra just in case
Thank you for this nice explanation. I want to ask you what type of oil is for the Honda Civic Hybrid Automatic CVT, and how many liters do you need?
Hi, I would recommend that you use Honda's CVT transmission fluid. You should need about 3 litres
is it safe to fill from Check Stick ? I can't find filling plug on 15 hybrid
yes, that's how you add the fluid. if you notice the transmission dip stick is oversized to allow you to use a long narrow funnel

Having the oil hot/warm allows it to flow better. Therefore you should be able to extract more oil

You need to check the fluid level by the dipstick.
