  • This video shows you how to manually force charge your hybrid battery to the highest point possibly. This will help you figure out if you need a new hybrid battery or if a grid charger will fix your problem. Here are the steps to take:
    Disconnect 12V battery (-) cable for 10 seconds
    Reconnect 12V battery (-) cable
    Start car
    Allow car to charge IMA at engine dle. Do not drive.
    Continue idling until charge stops.
    Repeat 3 times.
    Repeat every hour for 8-10 hours
    The Honda Civic Hybrid 06-08 is the second worst Hyrbid Battery out there (second to only the 09-11 Honda Civic Hybrid). The battery cells often overheat, and lose charging capabilities.
    When your battery gauge stops assist or charging The gauge behavior is described is a "negative recalibration".
    It results from imbalance in the 132 cells in the battery. The pack is monitored in 11 places. One or more of the 11 voltages drops too low during assist. The car terminates assist, drops the gage to 2 bars at 1 bar per second.
    It will then almost completely disable assist and begin force charging. After some time, one or more of the 11 voltages indicates "full" thus triggering a "positive recalibration" where charging is terminated, and the gauge goes to 8 bars at 1 bar per second. A positive recalibration does not always occur after a forced charge, but when they do, it indicates a very imbalanced and deteriorated battery.

    Thank you so much.
    My Honda Civic IMA is from 2007 and has 160,000 km.
    Lately the IMA battery did not keep the charge well, it charged quickly and discharged much faster.
    I was thinking of changing the battery but I found your video and, after doing it only 3 times, the battery has improved a lot.
    The car has power again and the battery lasts a long time. Also the average consumption has dropped from 6.6 L/100 km to 5.3 L/100 km, both in mixed city-highway consumption.
    I hope it lasts a long time.
    Thank you.
    Thank you

    Thank You- This is one of the most helpful videos on how to actually test this pack in a simple way. My 2007 would click over to the third bar and immediately jump to recalibrate. 2-3 is as far as it would go using this method. Our poor IMA condition (230,000km) had eventually caused the car to stall in really cold Canadian Winters. I wanted to be sure before spending the big bucks!
    I decided to rebuild the pack with new sticks from China. After very detailed and tricky work (Note some mods were required to make original end caps fit) . After I installed my rebuilt pack. ...I put the 12v battery cable back on....and...Voila....the car kicked into charge mode (higher rev than standard 880 rpm idle). Well.... starting at 3 bars I let it sit and run while it slowly climbed to FULL BARS.... one friggging bar at a time!!! Not once did it recalibrate and jump around. Just saying....really happy and Very satisfied ....and you helped A LOT on the diagnosis...Thanks again.

    If the battery is good and has no problems, how would it be after disconnecting the 12v battery's negative terminal? After starting the car would the white bars quicker or slower fill up! Can you by just removing the negative terminal once tell if the battery is good?

    Do you know much about the 2014 Honda Plug in Accord? I purchased one and have been charging it at stations and the system says that it adds 1.7-1.8 KWh. I have read the batteries in these are 6.7 KWh. It leads me to believe that the battery is deteriorated enough that it’s not doing much good. I will charge the battery at home and a full battery on these are supposed to get 12-15 miles on a full charge and I’m getting maybe 4. What are your thoughts on this?

    Hello, I have a Honda Civic 2011 and have been to a repair service in Albania more than 20 times and they cannot find any solution. When I drive, the battery runs out and the car is off, sometimes the battery charges normally, for example after 2km is low and the car is off. What do you think is a battery problem or something else? Best regards

    is doing this completely safe? Because my battery seems to act pretty good, i dont really have any issues but i feel like the 7th and 6th bar charge holds up pretty poorly, like it drops relatively quickly when i drive on the electric motor only, when the battery drops to 5th bar it stays on that level for a pretty long time of assisting. So im thinking about doing this process, will this improve the capacity?

    Hey thanks bro this worked for me not sure how long it will last but thanks for the video. I was thinking to get a new battery but now im going to hold off. I would say these cars seem to be too expensive to fix becasuse they are only giving you 40 max in the city. You can get an old school gas corolla or civic to give you 30+mpg with no hybrid battery. If the batteries were much cheaper and the mpg was way better it would be worth it otherwise its a totaled car. Unless you have the skill, lots of time, dont mind the risk of killing yourself playing games with these batteries, oh and you need the equip. Worst of all you can have all that and still end up screwed.

    I have recently purchased a Honda Civic hybrid that is 12 years old but has covered only 28,000 miles in that time. The IMA light came on the other day so that is when I started to investigate what might resolve the issue without straight away buying a new battery pack. I have carried out the procedure in your great video, over 10 hours as you recommend. So far the IMA light has stayed out for 10 days, and I notice that when the car has been standing overnight and I start up in the morning, the hybrid battery monitor reads 100% (8 bars), whereas previously it would read only 2 bars and take 5 minutes driving to reach 8 bars.
    I'm not saying that my issue is solved, too early to say, but if the IMA light comes on again I'll get an OBD reader to lift any fault codes and go from there. If it's just a battery issue (and not a fault with the inverter/converter) I'll invest in a proper grid charger and cycle the battery pack a few times. If that doesn't help then a rebuilt battery pack using all new (not reconditioned) cells cost £1450 (around $1900) here in the UK. I'm guessing they use Chinese made NiMh cells as the original Japanese Panasonic cells are no longer in production. They come with a 3 year warranty, so worth the risk as the car looks and drives like new.

    • @karrskars
      @karrskars  3 роки тому

      Yes a grid charger should work great for yours. Your batteries were likely not balanced correctly from the car not being used for long amounts of time. Glad it helped!

    • @tsgcustomworld
      @tsgcustomworld 3 роки тому +2

      @@karrskars Thanks for your help. I went for a long drive today and still no IMA light. The battery, assist and charge indicators all seem to be reporting as they should and I'm getting 45mpg for mixed town and highway driving. I borrowed a friends OBD reader and run a scan for stored error codes. The scan found zero stored error codes so that's encouraging.
      I'm keeping my fingers crossed and may buy a grid charger anyway as I think it's a good investment if your are running an ageing hybrid.

      It’s force charging each time. So even though most sticks are already charged, every time you do this after it will charge the sticks that aren’t fully charged and hopefully get them all in sync
