Honda Civic Automatic Transmission Fluid Service 2006 EX (2006-2011 Similar) (Drain and Fill)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2016
- In this video I show you how I change the automatic transmission fluid on a Honda Civic 2006 (drain and fill). The exact vehicle is a 2006 Honda Civic EX with an automatic transmission. Doing this procedure every 30, 000 miles can really help keep a Honda transmission in good working order.
Civics with manual transmissions or CVTs will have a different procedure than the one shown on this video.

Many Thanks to you I'm a single mom doing this parenting thing solo. I want to give you major props for taking the time to show me this. :) $$$$ saving
Glad it helped you out!
@@YD-uq5fi did you know that child support is money used for the kids. Do you know how much it costs to raise a kid. In most cases, the mother is not just pocketing the cash... Yes some do... But kind of bold and rude to assume that about someone you don't know. Who hurt you? 😂
@@YD-uq5fi i agree man. The whole "Im a single mom..." is getting old. No one cares or wants to hear that shit.
@@YD-uq5fi..and you know this how? Sounds like to me that you are a deadbeat dad..even if she was receiving any kind of payment from the father it doesn't come close to the actual cost of raising a child..
@@YD-uq5fi..ya that's funny. What would you know about anything in life. You probably still live with your mommy and I wouldn't be surprised if you still wet your bed.
this has been a very detailed tutorial. I could see you really know your Honda and take good care of your car. You deserve to be the #1 search when looking for this specific topic. Really insightful video that doesn't miss a step!
Bahamiantoons Thanks!
Wondering if you’ll see this all these years later to answer. What’s the difference between a transmission flush and a change?
Gave me the confidence to do it myself took all of 30 minute do.Car feels so tight an smooth shifting now.Great video.
Nice!
Which fluid did you use?
Thank you. Done and explained professionally. No talking about unrelated subjects. No laud music in the background. All together great video
Thanks!
One of the most thorough yet quick videos I've seen for working on the civic. Most videos people are annoying with guys blabbing on, talking to themselves slowly and it takes forever etc. Nicely done. Thanks.
I agree
I am doing this tomorrow on my 2010 Civic. This was the perfect video to make sure I do it correctly. Thank you!

Big Dog50001 Automotive what about the filter?? Maybe is dirty
Where did you get the drain pan?
Wow. Can't believe I paid $100 once for a transmission service when this was all that needed to be done. Doing that and oil changes at home now. Cheers for the video bud!
Thanks!
You actually did well if that's all they charged, most garages charge twice that.
I purchased a Honda civic 2010. Odometer was about 79,000. I drive an insane amount to work. I really need to start getting things like this done, as I have no car maintenance history at all. I can do this myself, as I have the tools. This video will help me for sure.
Thank you for showing us we’re the transmission stick was being a single parent showing my 17 year old how to maintain his 09 Honda Civic ex coupe
Glad it helped!
Most excellent! Some points you might try. Keep and mark ounce levels on some old plastic juice jugs for using. Drain out into one. Put a mark on jug. I use a piece of painters tape. Drain that into another jug and refill with new ATF right to the mark. That way you’re assured of putting in exactly what came out without measuring anything. This approach works great for other car fluids too. These jugs drain overnight almost completely then just a little gasoline in them to clean them up for next time. Mine took 85 ounces or 2.65 quarts. Great video
So clean, to the point, no bs! Nice job man great video!
This is a great tutorial. I can tell that you're an excellent mechanic. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much. So thorough and easy to follow.
Just today I noticed my car was no switching gears properly. So I checked the moto and transmission and turns out I was empty on the transmission fluid. Here I’m hoping the motor has not been damaged.
You are the Man!! I change my own motor oil on my 2010 civic. Love the civic easy to work on.
Awesome video, very helpful :) I really like the quote you said ( if you don't have a torque wrench, use your mind not your muscle) and that's what I do all the time :D
Happy you mentioned jack stands. I had friends who lost legs and nearly killed by having cars fall on them.
Doing my first trans change on this generation civic. Doing 09. I specifically looked for your vid and badda bing this came up. When I do trans changes I’ve been draining into a 5 quart bucket with measurements on the side so I know how much to refill as a start and sanity check. I’m still laughing because yup my drain came up to 2.5 quarts exactly !!! Soooooo appreciate your vids and yes I remembered to take out the drain bucket before lowering. I’m sure you put the extra don’t forget guys message in because you forgot and heard the ooops I forgot crunch plastic sound of pain.
you are so good, precise, to the point, clear, even clean :) thanks so much!
Thank you for the comment!
Thanks for this detailed tutorial with clear instructions and calmly explained.
Great video, simple and easy to follow! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the comment!
Great video, concise. Very easy job. I agree with doing this every 30,000 miles. My mom gave me her 2008 Honda Civic with 78,000 miles, which is low mileage for a car that age. I just changed the transmission fluid today (it had never been changed before), and fluid was a grayish brown, instead of red. Was a fair amount of metal sludge on the drain plug magnet as well. I'm going to do one or two more drain and fills in the next few weeks to 'catch it up' and have nice, red transmission fluid.
Wow. A Civic with only 78,000 miles. Geesh, that's no mileage for a Honda. I'm getting a friend of mines Civic in about an month with 163,000 miles. Drives really nice and sounds great.
Did you notice a difference with all the changes?
Just got my grandmas 2008 honda civic and only has 65k miles
I did two more drain and fills shortly after my first comment. The transmission fluid is a nice cherry red. Now I only have to do one change every 30K.
Thank! thanks to your video i changed my cars automatic transmission oil, thanks a lot!
This was exactly what I needed to save some $$$ thanks for the help
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
Excellent, thorough, step by step how to video. thanks for making it!
Thanks!
Great video dude...nice and easy and straight forward
Honda this model popular in Thailand much. But less of user to care about transmission system. In Thailand many mechanic can repair Honda Civic this model but not many mechanic for care about Transmission. Thanks brother for this and shared your VDO.
Great detail, step by step. Absolutely excellent presentation. Thank you so much. Ron

ritche de jesus Thanks!
Excellent presentation Big Dog!
Thank you so much. Ron I really like all your videos Great detail, step by step.
Thanks!
That looks easy and I would do it myself if the property management would allow tenants to perform small repairs. Oh well, I might do it at work if I can get a jack over there.👍🏾
Thank you for this video! I'm going to change it on my Honda.
Heeey I did what you told me i called Fernandez Honda dealership and asked them what kind of transmission oil I needed for my 2010 Honda Civic and he asked me for VIN number and he told me I needed the DW1 like the one you show on your video and like you said I didn't have a CVT transmission like i thought i did lol :-)
And you video was excellent !!! 😀👍
Honda makes models with different transmissions, some have a conventional automatic transmission (like in this video) and some have Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs). Most newer Honda now have CVTs. That being said, I am not aware of any 2010 Civics (in the US) that have CVT transmissions. Don't take my word for it, go to a Honda dealer parts department with the VIN and they can tell you what it needs.
@@BigDog50001
Heeey my password for my gmail is bigdog18 lol 👊😀
I did have a 2003 Honda Civic hybrid and when I went to AutoZone he told me I had a CVT transmission and gave me the oil I needed but now on my 2010 Honda Civic I want to put the oil that is recommended like the Honda genuine oil and now you have me thinking what kind of transmission I have 🤔 I just assumed it was a CVT transmission so thanks for the advice I will go to the Honda dealership and they will give me the recommended oil for my car and I'll find out what kind of transmission I have lol :-)
Ty for this straight forward informative video!
You are great to the point with it’s steps and short
great video, thanks, i want to change the filter, do i have to change the fluid also?
Really good explanation step by step. Good job

Good to hear you got it done!
Great step by step tutorial, Thank you.
Predator-Hunter - Thanks!
You made it look easy thanks man.
I appreciate the comment, thank you!
So do I really need 2.5 quarts? I have never changed it before but on other trans fluid drain and fill videos it says only about 1/3 of the old fluid actually drains out?
Brilliant presentation. Thank you very much :))
Aleksandr Bakhshetyan Thank you for the comment!
Would it be worth measuring what drained?
Then matching that exactly to put back in?
When would you replace the transmission filter?
How often do you change the AT filter?
Hi there, thanks for doing this tutorial. My question is do I also need to replace the transmission filter as well? thanks again!
sorry, never mind, i saw your responses to some people saying its a 'life of a vehicle' item.
I needed to hear that “what are you waiting for?” While having the oil in my backseat
Thanks great run through. Did this end up being the same for a 2011 se. ?
Someone said In automatic transmission 2.4 liters is used. My mechanic put 3 liters in it. In hot car the gauge is on the higher side , should I remove extra oil or is it alright?
How often do you need to change ATF for this car?
have an 07 ex civic starting to shudder in slow throttle 2nd and minor 3rd gear. would servicing this according to the video fix shudder??
I bought a used Honda with 140 and I don’t know if it was ever done it now has 180k miles on it do you think I should change it or is it too late and I should leave it be
GOOD VIDEO thanks for all the information.
I appreciate the comment, thank you!
I started losing a quart and a half of fluid a day. I checked my cooler lines going to my radiator and one of them was spinning free. I tightened it will this solve my problem you think?
The real fun is changing the filter for the transmission fluid..
Did it last week for my girl..
The plastic cowel under the window has to come out...
And if you got big hands like I do...
Good times

👍
changing the transmission filter how many quarts of oil does the 2008 civic sedan take with automatic transmission, 6 or 7.
Thanks.
Do you run the engine like before an oil change so it flows better or not needed for trans fluid?
Hi big dog, i changed my transmission fluid and after about a year it shifts hard. Do i change the fluid again? Im a bit lost here
Hi Big Dog. I have supplied 3 bottles of fluid to my mechanic, he advised to put 1 more bottle. Any leads please ?
Hello I am at the bottom harsh line since my transmission has been leaking. How much fluid is it from bottom to top line because I don't want to overfill.
Appreciate the video. I am wondering though when looking at another video, and looking at yours. The other guy lifted the car to just loosen the plug, then let the car run until the fan turned on. After that he lifted the car up and drained the oil, is the similar aspect of you running the car for 60 seconds before seeing if the fill line is correct? I didn't see much difference in what you both did, seems straightforward. We all appreciate your help, you know how it is as you're saving us $150 per comment on this post.. Great job man, Please don't forget to answer this. Thank you
how do you keep the engine bay so clean? I'm scared to clean the engine...thanks for the video bro.
I work at a dealership and we just hose down the engine bay with the engine cold and I've never seen a problem.
That's because you dont know what your doing if your scared to rinse the engine bay. Leave it running and use a blow gun to get off the excess water buy the coil packs or anything electrical
Thank you so much for this!!
👍
Do I have to change the Transmission Filter also ?
Is it safe to do this if it’s unknown when it was last done? Just got the car and it has 160k miles
Thank you by you time and share this video, une cuestión, do I need replace transmisión oil filter or is not necessary?
I made a video on it. ua-cam.com/video/0o4lh9_AyG0/v-deo.html
do u recommend changing the transmission filter too?
Hey BigDog looking to do a drain and fill for a 2013 Honda Civic 9th gen. Is the procedure the same as the 8th gen? Thanks!
Very big help!!!! Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks for the comment!
Why didnt you change the in line filter under the air box?
Hi, what is the meaning of the fluid level be over the dash level? Is that runing hot? Do I need to add fluid?
Goodyear recently did an exchange fluid for me on the transmission of my 2012 Honda Accord. About 5,000 miles later, I am now noticing a horrible vibration coming from under my front car seat and steering wheel. It happens at different mph. Not to mention, I am noticing the car is not changing gears properly. Goodyear said they put Honda fluid in the car, but how does one know for sure? I am hoping they did not screw up my transmission.
Is the oil as good for the Awd or ivtec ?
Excellent Video and very detailed! Why do most service stations push for a Flush?
kevin Harmony Thanks! Usually because they have an expensive machine they need to pay for.
Helping me save a couple bucks. Thanks you !
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
great video ,i notice the car on jack stand ,that's mean the car is not level is that OK ?
curious how come you didn't change the transmission filter. Great vid thanks
Would you recommend changing on a high mileage '09 Civic with no history of it ever being changed.
Mine doesn't have a dipstick, but it's a manual transmission, assuming that's why.
Should I be flushing out the fluid?
minimo....excellente video thank youu....question........what about the filter dont need change.....thank you.......forever and ever
Thanks for the comment! As for the filters: ua-cam.com/video/0o4lh9_AyG0/v-deo.html
When I drained my 07 lx I got 4 Oz shy of 3 quarts out. Put back in what I got out. Was a closer to. 2.75 than 2.50 quarts.
As clean as it could be. Thank you.
