My night owl app has a “hold to talk” button in the app, and my night owl box has an “audio out” right next to the “audio in” where my microphone is plugged into the “audio in”. What product am I supposed to connect to the audio out in order to use this “hold to talk” button in the app on my phone?

I bought the 8 camera night owl. They say they have 24/7 service to help customers and that is just a lie, I called them like 5 times and they keep hanging up on me after im told hold for the next agent, I emailed them twice to get no response as well. I will return it on my day off and i don't recommend buying one unless you are looking to be disappointed.
im not sure if you're still active about this video but i have a question, i had set up my DVR and everything was working fine like i could watch from my phone with the app whether if i was on wifi or on 4g/3g but i've noticed now that the app doesnt work when im on 4g/3g from my phone unless im on the wifi network when back when i first installed it was working when i was on either wifi or 4g/3g
Jose Sanchez when you're at home, you're on the same network, it works, if you don't set port forwarding, you can't access from outside of your wifi network. I hope this is your problems. After you set port forwarding, go to the apps and set the ipaddress to the ip of "what's my IP address" when you typed in the browser.
but when i first intalled the dvr box i had nothing set up besides the network settings in the dvr and it would work without having to port forward anything and now it only works on wifi
i dont know what you're talking about cause on the mobile app i didnt input any ip. i just scanned the qr code and it filled itself out. like i said i set everything up right cause it was working and i had a live feed on both wifi and 3g/4g but now recently it just stopped working while on 4g/3g. im not interesting in the computer application. just the mobile one if thats what you're asking about the ip area
The problem to why its not clear is because your cameras are being displayed in Low Res, Right mouse click on the left of your screen, in the side bar where it lists your camera, right mouse click on each camera and select "Set Main Stream" for HD, and "Set Sub Stream" for Low Res to save on Bandwidth
Click the "HD stream" icon on the bottom left of the main view. I found out that the DVR outputs low res video via ethernet until you click on "HD stream" on a particular camera view.
Thanks for sharing your configuration on setting this unit up. I just setup this up today with some setting like yourself. But one question for you. What is the "post recording" used for?
oh that's what I thought...t hanks for the help. I notice the time keeps changing on the 3 hours ahead. I fixed it like twice already takes about 1 day 1/2 for it to move up again. Do you know why it's happening?
To test, just go to the video camera and do some funny moves in front of it :-) try it a few times, but make sure to give it sometimes to reset itself I think.
Thanks I also changed the resolution 1280 x 720 and the FPS to 30 like you did hoping that that'll helps. Also how come you changed Network to (static) and not DHCP?
I do have many wifi devices in the house like printer, my cloud, etc... it's better to assign a static for each one, they don't change especially when you're out of the house, all you need is the correct software to connect to your home isp assigned address and you can access them all consistently.

I have a small problem where on the screen I only see night owl logo and cannot move mouse or do anything. It used to work before but then power went out and the dvr just restarted. Any ideas?
Evidently the security camera companies don't understand the cameras cmos chip is what determines the resolution. The 720 and 1080 refer to monitor resolution which any camera can alter a signal to put out to a monitor regardless of clarity and resolution of the camera. Companies don't mention the cameras chip so no way of knowing how good of a picture. Pretty sad.
I totally agree, I had this for one day and returned it. The App is completely unusable. Sometimes you see all of the cameras, sometimes you don't. And just to make it fun, you can also play "let's make a deal" and get some random number of cameras instead. It's too bad because the setup was easy and the images seemed "ok", good enough for me. I just ordered the Reolink POE (power over ethernet) so only one cable needs to be run. That's not a big deal either way but their App looks really simple and by all accounts, it works! You can argue camera resolution and night time viewing all day.....but the App is really the most important part. If it doesn't display all of the cameras right away, then the system is sort of useless.
Not a big deal, but it does kind of make me slightly rage on the inside. You have male and female cords backwards. Male is the one that sticks out, female is the one that the male goes into.

Important thing is that you have to have port forwarding on your router to the outside your house. Use the ip address of your home isp and use port 9000.
No you don't, but you need a monitor or TV to set up. How did you set up your internet without a computer? You can use your phone or tablet. You do need to access ROUTER set up to monitor from outside your home. You need computer to save videos recorded.

3dogs1monkey that's the thing. This is the initial power on. It won't let me through with admin in username box and password blank as that's how my instructions tell me to do it. Is there a default password or something?
one more thing, it's default "admin" written in the box, retype the word "admin" - You must changed the password at one time and now it's expecting it. I've tried to see if there's reset button somewhere on the unit. Normally it should have a hair pin for you to press and hold it. If it's default "admin" on the screen, when I typed my password, it still said incorrect until I retype the "admin".
until DVR is full-then it will record over top of old video if you don't delete old video. If you have it set up to record for 10 seconds on motion only these DVRs will record for about a month.
FYI: If anyone is trying to log in using the app on the phone and are having trouble connecting to the dvr the username is admin. The password should be exactly eight characters long no more . Example 123456789 it should be 12345678. Just remove the extra characters. Hope this helped.
did you set up your router port forwarding? For all portable devices to work, set the ip address on the phone with the ip address you get from "what's my ip address"

I just bought and installed these cameras. I should have watched this video first. These cameras are not for the average person to setup and install. First off, just connecting the cameras to the DVR will require you to drill holes in your walls to connect the DVR inside your house. Secondly, positioning the cameras will require you to get on a ladder to install them in an area where no one can damage them. Third, it seems these cameras need to be permanently connected to the internet for you to play back any recorded video. There are no controls on the DVR to do that. So, running wires from the outside to the inside making sure you are near the router with the DVR will limit where you can place the cameras. Then, your internet slows down due to the constant streaming of video for this device. Night vision is black and white and "x-ray" like. Most crimes are committed at night. Career criminals cover their identity when committing a crime. Just look at Bank robbery videos. Night videos will be hard to identify the criminal.

You don't have to connect to internet to use these cameras. You do need internet to be able to get alerts to your phone when you are not home and there is motion. In fact, if your cameras are inside the house, I wouldn't connect to internet because you can be hacked and someone could look around in your house. Night vision is black and white , although Lorex has CNV(color night vision) on some of their systems now. I like wired systems-Take the time to drill a couple holes in your house and route the wires- then you have no batterries to change and no lag time in recording. Set in on motion detection record only and your DVR will go about a month before over recording the original video. If you get robbed and didn't know for a month that it was on your cameras, then you take too many vacations.
Not Recording! I am wondering if anyone is having a problem with the outside cameras not recording? When it records once. Then a person walks the same footprint with NO recording. I have called Night Owl three times. Nice people but the Company I am not sure. The stories I am getting is that the cameras do Not record the motions that my cameras angles are set at. Okay if this is true then how come the Camera recorded one way and not another. Or the motion was not recorded earlier in the day? A person walks in the same spot and cameras records? So Night Owl checked all the settings I have set up on system. Spent hours on the phone to get the final answer that I have to put the cameras at an side angle. because it can only record at the side. But then it should record always at one of my angles. If I walk in the areas that would make this true I still have the problem. inferred, 1080 motion cameras. Anyone???? About to return them. I can have it to record non stop but that defeats the purpose of motion censors.
Try to switch the camera to a different port, may be the port you use is malfunction, each channel has different recording selection ability. Make sure to highlight all the screen (orange) for motion detection. On my front door, the leaves moving cause the record to activate, I had to gray out the leaves so it only trigger on people only. Check the setting on motion time. It's not the angle of the camera.

Jose Sanchez if you look at the IP address on your app, it's your router IP and NOT your isp assigned IP. You didn't watch the video completely.

I've just logged in yesterday and it updated right away. Make sure you can log in "admin" and connected to the internet with Ethernet cable.

dont BUY!! - Worst Costco purchase ever. Thing falls offline, required multiple factory resets, until it just died and wont power up.
DON’T BUY THESE. JUNK!! I bought these. They only lasted a couple of years before the cameras started dying.
Actually the cameras are still good until today but the base was dead in a few years.
