Agreed. Again, someone with autism. I used to have a much harder time making eye contact, I am usually much closer to my parents, teachers and other authority figures than other people my age, I can get hyper fixated on topics I want to think about, and I often struggle to know why certain people give me a hard time the same way Ivo Hugh struggles to know. For the record, I may have been an excellent student, but I was just as speechless and ecstatic as Duncan when I realized what Ivo Hugh was doing, and I can get hung up on unfamiliar problems or situations, so I'd say Ivo Hugh is more resilient and the superior problem solver. At the end of the day, of course, not all the details are going to line up with every person with autism, but that's okay. As they say, if you've seen one person with autism, you've seen one person with autism. I'm also thankful that you didn't just make Ivo Hugh another arrogant new engine. What you've done with his character is beautiful, and considering the dozens of fan stories I've seen since I saw the first episode (So much for my comment on the first "the making of" video), I would say Clever Little Engines has held up beautifully and remains one of my favorites. I've been in love with this project since I first saw it, and that love hasn't diminished.
This gives me the idea for a Headcannon In Duncan's cab there's a jar for when he swears and when he has an accident because of his rough riding Whenever he does one of these a lump of coal is placed in
as someone diagnosed with autism myself I can confirm that the way you handled Ivo Hugh was respectful and didn't cross any boundaries. Great work on your series :)
As someone who does have autism, I've got to say that Ivo Hugh being autistic has definitely been done well. I can definitely relate to him. Until now, I was wondering why I absolutely loved this take on him.
I’m a big fan of these episodes! I didn’t know you try to portray Ivo Hugh on the Autism Spectrum! Hope everything goes smoothly with making the last part!
As always, well done! While I think it's a bit strange for an engine to be on the spectrum, from my experience it seems you've portrayed it in a respectful and meaningful way. I hope more people get to enjoy these videos of yours.
This story for the next part of Ivo Hugh's story here is fantastic and interesting to see. Duncan being a mentor to Ivo is something unexpected considering how he is in the series. In his own ways, he teaches Ivo something. Well done on this part. Can't wait to see how the last story goes. Keep up the great work and take care.
Hi Max, I didn’t get a chance to leave a comment in time but I thought the shunting situation was quite creative in how they literally rearranged the train again. I did a turn in Van 6 at the Heritage Weekend which required moving the van to the other end of the train when we reached each end of the line, so it reminded me a bit of that. I really like Ivo being neurodiverse as well, i felt he was very relatable in these videos beforehand but especially so now. Thanks, Ethan
I really enjoyed this series! My sister and I have experience with people on the spectrum, especially since she was a volunteer teacher for the options program for a few years. While it's subtle, I think it's quite interesting how you have portrayed Ivo Hugh. Good job!
1:59 “Respectfully” is one good way of putting it. In fact, I’d say your portrayal of Ivo Hugh has been a very admirable one. Edit: Also, I quite enjoyed your approach to stop motion, that’s something I’m not entirely used to seeing in the Thomas UA-cam industry, so I found it very refreshing to watch.
I think you did very well with representing Autism in Ivo Hugh. As someone on the spectrum, seeing both the good and bad of it so accurately depicted is really nice.
As someone who is autistic I appreciate how you haven't made Ivo overly autistic or made him perfect because both are often things that are misportrade with autistic people. I also like how you don't make it his entire character another problem I see in media. Ur doing good man :)
1:42 I was also thinking your version of Ivo Hugh gives off spectrum vibes. I think you have written him quite well, as someone on the spectrum myself!
Sometimes I feel like the Railway With a Heart of Gold song overshadows the actual narrow guage theme in recent years so I'm okay with it taking the backseat once. Like I get that a song obviously can’t be from the books but still
All do with respect, as someone who is on the spectrum, I hate when writers make characters autistic because they treat autism as the character flaw instead of giving them actual character flaws. But to be honest I don't see it in your writing of Ivo Hugh. Well done.
I certainly didn't want it to be his character trait, it's just part of him. Particularly to make sure he wasn't simply the token autistic character, it's never the main plotpoint in these stories.
Honestly, even as an autistic individual, I never realised the autistic traits Ivo Hugh. And yet, I sympathised with him and understood his way of thinking thoughout the saga, hoping he'll get a happy conclusion at the end.
“Ivo thought Duncan seemed wise, he also learned a few new words he never heard before…..”
“FU-“
Even though I’m on the spectrum. I didn’t notice at first but now that you mention it it’s hard to not see. I appreciate that you have included this.
The way you portrayed Ive is perfect autism the overthinking and quick ideas are absolutely perfect along with his radiating energy I love it
I actually really like Ivo Hugh being autistic. Being on the spectrum myself there are some things that he does that I feel I relate too!!!

Perhaps a Duncan swear jar is in order
This gives me the idea for a Headcannon
In Duncan's cab there's a jar for when he swears and when he has an accident because of his rough riding

You can make one for while you're at it. It's just too fun using those gruffer words.
@@LBSC70the jar would only Handel two are your sure that it’s a good idea?
@@MacsensRailway maybe the break a piece with a hammer and then just have a small stash in the corner of the cab for the jar
That jar would make him rich
You will always have my respect for how you’ve made Ivo Hugh a more fleshed out character.
You mean he made Ivo Hugh an actual character
as someone diagnosed with autism myself I can confirm that the way you handled Ivo Hugh was respectful and didn't cross any boundaries. Great work on your series :)

I too have autism. And the eyes moving away from people is something I find my self doing a lot when ever I have a conversation with other people.
5:17 “Oh puh-lease! I have no soul.”
Great video, Max!
I can't wait for the next episode!
I like your portrayal of Ivo, a very interesting take of making him autistic but i think it still worked
tbh the autism thing is very very well done as an autism goblin myself its good
Yay hart

I adore Autistic Ivo ❤
As someone who's on the spectrum and seeing Ivo Hugh's basis in real life, I actually love it.

Duncan’s language is often strong it seems
