I go backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, and many times, the only resupply in small towns is a Dollar Store. If you get the "Just Add Water" Pancake Mix, and use a 50/50 combination of Flour & Pancake Mix, some Salt, and enough water to form a thick batter, you can make skillet biscuits.

I love these cheap dinners! Walmart has a 1 lb. tube of frozen ground turkey (less than $2) - comes in Italian, Taco, & Plain flavors. Its really good too. In Korea, there’s a soup called Sujebi - which translates to dough flake or hand torn noodles. The dough is so simple to make with only flour, salt, water, and a little oil. You could easily make a dough like your flatbread dough and pull apart into noodles and cook straight in broth and veggies from the Dollar Tree. Simple yet comforting and hearty!

All of my local Dollar Tree’s have a fridge/freezer section. I just LOVE their bags of frozen veggies! I found a Southwestern corn/black bean/pepper/onion mix and made a chicken chili with some rotisserie chicken, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes with chilies, chili spices, salt and pepper. I added shredded cheese on top. My husband ate EVERY bite.
I also used the same rotisserie chicken and made cream of chicken soup in the crockpot. With 2 large cans of cream of chicken soup, 2 TBs of butter, a carton of chicken broth, a cup of milk, carrots, celery, salt, pepper, a little garlic powder and shell shaped noodles. It turns out really thick like a stew. We eat it for days on end because it’s just SO good!
Could you make some rotisserie chicken recipes?? I just LOVE how versatile they are. I bring them home, immediately take off all the meat, shred it up good and freeze it in portions for meals. You can literally make anything with them! I’d love to see how you’d work your magic!!

I added water, an onion, garlic, celery, tomatoes, a carrot, pepper corns and a bay leaf as well as salt and simmered it all for a couple hours. I also added a little wine. I strained it in a dish towel, and the result was a lovely broth.

I think I would have opted for another can of veggies instead of the Vienna bites. The veggies would have gone well with the noodles in peanut sauce. Plus you had complete protein in the dish with the Vienna bites from the combination of beans and rice. I think the inclusion of the flour was a great idea so you could have the bread and pasta options in you menu. Great job!

I'm always impressed with your creativity when doing these challenges. Really good hearty meals and a good amount of food.
I was thinking because you said you didn't love the oatmeal instead you could have made baked oats with the peaches added.
It would have been nice with the baking giving it a deeper flavour and baked peaches are lovely, and you could have then baked a big tray of it and vcut it up into squares for the week. :)

My grandmother made "slick" dumplings for chicken and pastry just like you made your noodles! Well, not just like because she cut them into rectangles. They were sooo 👍

If you have a little brown sugar and margarine you could make a small fruit crisp. Oats can also be turned into oat flour.

THIS MAKES ME EXCITED OMG....my.food stamps got cut by 100 dollars when I renewed to only 57 a month as a single household because I'm making an extra dollar from my new job and work constantly but they didn't take into account my loans....its frustrating but videos like these are really helping me out

I just had to move away from a DT now I'm closer to a DG; They have cut up bell peppers mixed with onions that I can mix into other foods like frozen corn, or make a casserole if I add chicken to it as well.

Hey, I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your videos! You’re down to earth and frugal and I appreciate the information you give out. It’s useful for anyone. If someone is not in the situation where they NEED to shop & cook this way, they should still watch, so they will have the knowledge when they could be. It’s kind of like depression cooking, which is what I grew up with and still retain to this day. Creamed peas on toast, from that era, is still a favorite and a comfort food at our house. So thanks for the lessons you’re teaching all of us! Great content!

Thank you so much for making this kind of content. It inspires me to use what I have on hand. So many people struggle with food insecurity. I have had to rely on food pantries in the past.

The main problem with food pantry food, as I see it, is lack of variety, and depending on what is received, lack of vitamins/micronutrients. But with just a few additions, (mainly veggies), I've been able to make two week's meals for five people (two different pantries). I had to make sure to switch up the pantry staples so we didn't have pasta every night. 😁

Depends on which Dollar Tree I decide to go to. There are 4 of them within 30 minutes of my house. Two of them have a frozen section. I'm from an economically depressed area in Southern California. It's been that way for-EVER, even before Covid...Love your extreme budget videos!

Great ideas.. 🤗 when we have lots of left overs we add the left over into a tortilla and make a burrito out of it and freeze it . Then when ever no one cooks or running low on grocerys you pull them out and pop them on the stove or in the microwave . We call them suprise burritos lol . Never know what youll get in your burrito ..lol

I've seen some jalapeno cheese dip at my Dollar tree and I spread of that on the black bean flatbreads would have been so good. And you could have used a little bit of that over pasta to change it out. I would have used the viennas on flatbread with some of the cheese dip also. Everything looked great you do a fantastic job!

I so appreciate you! If you have the means, for the oat meal, you can get chia seeds, flax seeds, and oat bran, pan toast them a little and they do add a little sumpin, sumpin to the porridge. I prefer a savory porridge with some fruit and maple syrup added. But as with anything else, it is a matter of of personal preference.

Hey I love your vids! Good information for people . Can I give you a little bit of advice? Add a pinch of salt and just a tiny bit of fat or oil to your flat bread and you'll thank me lol also if you make the dough just a little bit wetter and then wrap them in a towel to "steam" it's will make them softer.
