Dollar Tree Christmas Dinner 🎄 Meatloaf from Dollar Tree!

- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- Hey friends! In this video I decided to make a Christmas dinner using only ingredients (minus spices) from the Dollar Tree!
The Dollar Tree isn't always the best value compared to places like Walmart or Aldi, but these videos are more about accessibility, food access, and getting creative with a limited grocery selection.
Dishes included meatloaf, macaroni and cheese (well, garganelli and cheese actually), oven roasted vegetables, bread rolls, and a 3 layer pudding for dessert! The total for everything was $15, though a few dollars could have been knocked off the total if you had some of the basics like milk and eggs in your fridge already.

This whole video made me smile. We grew up poor - but we never knew we were until we were older and kids were mean at school - cause my mom always made sure we were fed, and felt loved - I think that's where my own love of cooking has come from - and it's a joy to see you doing that for you and yours. You can make meager resources look like a bounty.
❤
You are next level, Lisa! You need a cooking show on food network. Food prices are out of control and you would help so many people.
The most creative women ever omg. I’d never be able to think of half the stuff she does
Isn't she awesome? She inspires me, but in a very practical way.
Its woman not women
I agree! She is something else. 😍
It's "it's" -- not "its."
@@lovepeace7373 be kinder more gentle please.
Your family is lucky to have such creative cook in the house!
I’m seriously getting addicted to this channel. I live alone (divorced & my kids live with my ex) and I hate shopping in general especially since it’s just me. It seems that the Dollar Tree may be the place for everyday dinners for myself.
Your hubby apologizing for his sneezes is so darn cute! 😂
Thank you for these they really are helpful. Money has been really tight lately and your videos have been helping a ton.
My family switches it up for Christmas. Typical southern soul food for Thanksgiving but for Christmas we have had a taco bar, seafood and chili/soups. This year we’re have Mississippi roast, bbq ribs, mixed greens, candied sweet potatoes, cornbread and Mac n cheese. Pound cake for dessert.
Damn that sounds good.....especially the Mississippi pot roast.....I made lasagna for Christmas....my mom made the salad, garlic bread and corn on the cob.....had cake and ice cream for dessert cuz it was my bday 🥰🥰🥰
The year we did enchiladas with chili sauce was such a fun Christmas. It felt scandalous to deviate from the traditional menu but it was more fun for me, the cook.
What amazing ideas! I’m strictly traditional for Thanksgiving but love to mix it up at Christmas - love this.
Sounds sooooo good!
I would have never thought to use stuffing mix in a meatloaf. I bet it gave a nice flavor
I use stuffing mix all the time. It adds flavor and spices.
I thought using stuffing in meatloaf was a universal thing? I’ve been doing it for years. It’s nothing new.
Times are so hard right now, I Will admit I've been struggling with my family and two small boys so thank you so much for this!!!
What I love ❤️ about this is that you did all of this so affordably and showed us roux (Mac n cheese) and pasta 101. I’ve never made pasta before but you’ve inspired me to try 👧🏽
I know, right?! How easy she just slipped those two in, especially making pasta noodles! They make long, drawn out videos on just that alone.
I do brunch. This year im doing crepes. Bacon. Coffee. Gonna be a nice day! Merry christmas yall :)
Yesssss I always tell people meatloaf is amazing! It’s like one giant home style meatball. So many people have never had a proper meatloaf experience!!!
That cool whip mixed with the pudding thing was genius! Very nicely done, Miss Lisa.
I know! So simple...but low key "fancy" for a special meal.
Also try it with crushed Oreos between each layer. Very good.
Sprinkle some shaved chocolate on the top of the whipped cream...Yum!
@@islndgrl832 or chocolate chips/butterscotch chips, etc! ❤️
My grandmother was Italian. She used to make a full turkey dinner AND an array of lasagna, ravioli, etc... every year for Christmas. I've simplified the menu to "just" a lasagna large enough to last us for three days. I serve it with homemade red sauce and meatballs. :)
We do the same for Christmas Eve! ❤️
For Christmas we have roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips, steamed vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mint sauce, a vegan Wellington, nut roast and gravy. For pudding we have Christmas pudding and custard or ice cream, Christmas cake, any other dessert that anyone fancies and vegan chocolate, baklava and sweets. Obviously the puddings are not all eaten in one go except the Christmas pudding. This is all followed with a cup of tea. Merry Christmas to you 🎅🎄⛄💖
What time is dinner? 😂 It sounds amazing! Blessings!! 🙏
Ooh vegan Wellington! Sounds like you’re going to be busy. Don’t let them leave without helping you clean up! Lol
🎄 Happy holidays to everyone and their own 🎄
Your Christmas dinner sounds very " English" are you from England by chance?
I am busy stocking up on items I use on a regular basis before Dollar Store increases prices
You should be so proud of yourself and your pasta making skills! When I was little my Papa would make homemade pasta and hang it to dry over his dining room chairs Lol. ❤💚❤💚🌵
If you happen to have piping bags, they work wonders for filling those types of desserts. Also, you could use a zip top bag, if you have that on hand too.
Growing up we just had the exact same thing for Christmas as Thanksgiving. Now I do a beef tenderloin for Christmas day. Christmas eve I make leek soup. Dessert is sticky toffee pudding a Scottish recipe. No specific sides. Just whatever looks good and fresh when I'm at the store.
Lisa Dawn, I love your cooking videos!!! I'm from The Bay Area and I visit my local Dollar Tree once a week. Your recipes are amazing and I love how authentic you are!!
Ours growing up were a repeat of Thanksgiving. Turkey, rice dressing, cornbread dressing, green beans, and mashed potatoes. My husband's growing up was Mundo, tamales, homemade tortillas, beans and rice, ham, and green bean casserole.
I am solo this year. Normally I spend the holidays in the Philippines but with travel restrictions had to postpone the trip. Have my second family there who I miss.
Hope you enjoy your holidays ❤️💚🎄
@@1122skyblue Thanks and Enjoy your Christmas also.
Doing a complete rewatch of the lisa series 😁 I hope you guys had a wonderful new years!
Hahahaha… bless you. I’m absolutely making the chocolate desert. We used to go all out with a Thanksgiving-like meal, but have switched to brunch, sides & ‘snack foods’ in recent years. It works for us so well, & we just leave it out like your family & people munch on what they want as they come & go. Plus, no post heavy meal food coma. 😊🎄
Lisa Dawn you are helping so many people with your video lessons. You a teaching people to feed themselves! How wonderful! Thank you for all your hard work and great ideas.
Thank you so much!
I love these videos you are so right about that fact that so many people in the inner cities that do not have access to big food chains. Your videos show people how to make it work…Love these😘
Thank you for these videos. I know what its like trying to make 10 bucks look and taste like a 100. You're doing a great job.
I love that California veggie blend! I stir in a can of creamed corn, salt, pepper to taste and 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese (shredded or even from the shake can). Bake at 350 for 30 mins. Top with another 1/4 of parm and put back in for 10-15 mins. Best, quick veggy side.
I have to try this one
Do you just mix it all together then bake it on a baking sheet? (Cream corn, cheeses) ?
I think the food Network needs you. I haven't seen anything like this before. So creative and so relatable! Well done! 👍
These videos are so amazing! Many people for whatever reason rely on Dollar Tree for their essential supplies . These are excellent ideas to create variety in meals. Do you ever find the Jennie-O brand of Ground Turkey patties at your Dollar Tree? I made a meatloaf using those & the Farmer John Sausage - & it was surprisingly good!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Can't wait to see it ...
I like the fact that you are honest using only the items at Dollar Tree and oil and spices. Other videos buy stuff from the dollar store or Aldis and then throw in 5 or 6 items they "just had". That's not a challenge. Yours are!
Your meal looks good! We switched to doing big Christmas breakfast rather than dinner after kids got older and moved out. This year we aren't going all out with French toast, waffles, pancakes (had hot chocolate and sprinkle pancakes last year) and cinnamon rolls with bacon/sausage/ham, eggs and fried potatoes as used to. Only having buttery biscuits/gravy with all the meat, eggs and potatoes. Then in the evening we go out for drinks. Its always such a fun day!!
Beautiful job as always great ideas..Thank you
Yes girl!!! ❤️
This could be fun! I do the big Thanksgiving dinner, Ham, cornbread dressing, Mac & Cheese, Collards, Deviled Eggs & a dessert, Spending 2&1/2 days in the kitchen. But for every Christmas it’s a South MS Seafood Gumbo, white rice, saltine crackers, potato salad & a Oreo cream Pie. I’m only in the kitchen on Christmas Eve & can enjoy my family Christmas Day. See, the Seafood Gumbo, potato salad & the pie is ALWAYS even better the next day. Hope everyone has an amazing Christmas & a Safe Happy New Year’s
Yum and yum! Merry Christmas!
👏🏾👏🏾YEZ!! I’m from Southern Va and we go all out for the “traditional” Thanksgiving Feast! Turkey, Ham, Fried Chicken, Mac n cheese, greens, potato salad… you know!🤣But Christmas we have Gumbo, Fried Fish and lasagne
I’m from the uk do our traditional Christmas dinner is always a Buck’s Fizz to start with, then a prawn cocktail followed by roast Turkey, sprouts, red cabbage and roast potatoes. For dessert with have a rich Christmas pudding covered in hot brandy sauce
Irish cream coffee with mint chocolate then we all fall asleep while trying to watch the queen on tv. Loving your videos and your food always looks soo good
Happy Christmas to you and your family 🎅
That sounds like so much fun listening to the queen together & a good family tradition
I don't think you know how much happiness you brought to me earlier today little reunion I had about 7 people I needed lil more patties and sausage I ended up spending $20 and using condensed milk for desert but everyone love it. And more importantly it was easy recipe and I didn't spend the initial $70. With inflation and high gas prices you show us how we can make loving unforgettable memories and happy bellies and be able to live afterwards.
This was fun to watch. Reminds me of years ago when my kids were little my ex and I didn't have much experience in the kitchen and we are both afraid of fixing large meals lol
Now the dinner is served around a honey glazed ham sides are typically green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, fresh rolls little smokies wrapped with bacon brown sugar maple syrup drizzled over the top.. Desserts very
I agree with Andrew and like a ketchup-y sauce on my meatloaf. You know what I bet would be really good though? Incorporating your Korean fried chicken sauce into it.
I like to adds chopped dill pickle mixed into the meat loaf It’s flavorful and it adds color.
We usually go to my grandmas on Christmas day. We usually do something different and easy. This year its snacks.
We are having lil weenies and dips and things.
Thank you for showing us how to make pasta!!
I love seeing videos from you!! Happy Holidays
We usually have a Ham and mostly the same sides as Thanksgiving. There have been variations like Chinese Food, Lasagna and we’ve done Seafood like Shrimp
For Christmas we always do appetizers. We'll let the kiddos open presents and eat finger food and watch a Christmas movie. Pretty lowkey. When I was a kid, we'd go to my grandparents' house and they would definitely do like a full sit down meal.
Yummy, your dinner looked delish! We usually do prime rib roast, sides and pie for dessert-Hope you, Andrew, mom and company have a safe blessed Holiday and a wonderful 2022! Thanks for making this past year a little bit brighter with your glowing personality and beaming smile! :)
So fun to watch! We have ham & pierogi ~ sausage & kraut, green beans & Kolchki 😋🥂
Enjoyed your pierogi video too🙌hope u all have a happy, fun holiday
You are on Santa’s good list 🎅🏼♥️🌲
Your Christmas dinner sounds absolutely delicious.
I love this lady! She is unpretentious, clever, creative, and very helpful! I hope she gets rich!
Exactly. She is realistic in her cooking.
Killing it
I love your recipe videos! I love shopping at the dollar tree.
Super excited!!!
Yeah…Lisa Dawn…a really great job again…from the dollar tree…I would have never thought ..meat loaf with dressing mix…you should take a sample of the meat loaf to the checker…Merry Christmas to you…Andrew and your mom…where was your kitty…?
Nice job-looks delicious Lisa Dawn! And for those who don't like hot spices, you can use Worcestershire Sauce , garlic, black pepper, etc to add in to your meatloaf mixture.
I love your videos. You’re always doing a great job ❤️
I love this video. Brings back good memories! My mom and grandma were the cooks! I remember both of them working for days on the meal (same with Thanksgiving). We would have the traditional turkey and dressing. We would stuff the turkey and then have baked dressing on the side as well. As the years went on and mom and grandma passed on, my sister would take Christmas and I would take Thanksgiving. Each one of us would try to make it our own but nothing was better than the days when mom and grandma were in the kitchen. We are now in different states and no longer get together on the holidays. But for my family, we changed from turkey or ham to a beef tenderloin or a crown roast. Always so much more than we can eat! With that I fix twice baked potatoes, (sometimes mashed as well) along with a Yorkshire pudding, gravy, deviled eggs, roasted brussels sprouts and steamed broccoli as well. All in all, its about the food but more about the memories. This year, it will be my son and his fiancé's turn to take over. I'm passing the helm to them. It's wonderful how these traditions are passed along. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season coming in 2024. Be well and thank you again for your delish and creative meals. I watch you very often. xx
My ex-husbands family makes homemade noodles for their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Lately, my son's gf has been making homemade gnocchi from their grandmother's recipe. It's dedication is all I have to say to that... lol. Your dinner looked fantastic.
thanks, again, Lisa!
At our house, we do lasagna and seafood on Christmas Eve, and then we do ham and turkey on Christmas Day. It's very much like Thanksgiving, but we aren't as rigid about the sides. Sometimes it's mashed potatoes, sometimes it's a potato casserole. I'm doing baked beans instead of stuffing this week.
I’m a Floridian and never baked much but it was counterproductive trying to cool the house while using the oven. Pasta is so cheap and quick that I never made it but twice. I love your ingenuity with making pasta! It’s probably my favorite part of your videos is your breads and pastas👍🥰!
My parents make homemade wedding soup, homemade ravioli, and other Italian food of choice. I'm Italian. And I love Christmas dinner. 🎄
This meal looks absolutely amazing. Thank you and happy holidays
Absolutely love your creativity, your complete menus out of minimal supplies.
Great ideas, you do such a nice job, thank you.
Just discovered your channel, love watching you and your content couldn't be more timely! I like to look at your ingredients and try to predict what you're going to make.
As a kid, Christmas dinner was sometimes turkey, but most often ham as everyone was sick of turkey from Thanksgiving. When I was with my ex, we did ham because he loved ham and not turkey so much. This year I am doing turkey, because it's what I like better, and I'm not sick of it! (Plus I got 2 free turkeys at Thanksgiving!)
I feel the same way girl! Lol I absolutely love turkey 🦃 but my husband's family usually prefers ham, blehhh! Not for me 😐
I can’t eat turkey w/o gravy or hot sauce. Otherwise it’s kinda dry.
I've always wanted to try to make homemade pasta but it's so intimidating for some reason lol watchin your vids though I think I may try it lol and for meatloaf one thing I always add to mine is a packet of onion soup mix, it's got a lot of flavor makes it really yummy.
It’s actually pretty simple. Just try it. You will rock it.
My mother used onion soup mix in her meatloaf too. I wonder if they make a lower sodium variety?
Do it! :)
Because of her I felt brave enough to try making my own bread, turned out so good!
Same. Good luck
So everything you cooked and ate came from Dollar Tree only. No other ingredients add from another store.
Cause your eggs look like bought from Walmart.
Growing up Christmas dinner was usually very much the same as Thanksgiving only we had ham instead of turkey. One year we had beef tenderloin and another year it was prime rib roast and crab legs, those were both a special treat those years. Now the majority of the time we usually will make some sort of pasta dish like lasagna, stuffed shells, stuffed manicotti or baked ziti along with many other appetizers and we always have bacon wrapped water chestnuts, its been a favorite for almost 40 years. Being from Chicago we often times will also have Italian beefs. Dessert is always jello salad and some sort of pie like apple or cherry
On Christmas eve I roast a Turkey hindquarter, with roasted and steamed vegies, along with home made gravy. My husband loves Turkey and as we live in Australia Turkey is a treat only eaten at Christmas, well at least for us. Christmas day we do a cold lunch of Turkey, Ham, German potato salad, mixed green salad, coleslaw, and king prawns with home made seafood sauce. We have drinks, along with a charcuterie board, dips and crackers for starters. Dessert is a choice of hot Christmas pudding, brandy custard, pavlova topped with fresh whipped cream and raspberries, strawberries, blue berries, kiwi fruit, and grated milk chocolate . My brother always brings a cheesecake too. So much food to choose from. I love your channel, you are easy to watch and listen to. Merry Christmas.
Your meatloaf recipe is also an excellent meatball recipe! I add chopped onion and reserve the ketchup to mix with brown sugar and spread on top of the loaf like a glaze. You can make it with just hamburger. But I think using half pork and half beef is the best.
Your ingenuity is priceless. I love what you are doing with your channel.
Growing up it was very similar to Thanksgiving, sometimes it was Ham, sometimes it was Turkey.
My husband and I decided wanted to end the year off with a bang so we started doing Prime Rib and seafood. :)
(This is coming from people who know and understand food insecurity, and we would never go out of means to have it if we couldn't. Its a treat and a celebration for the year, the accomplishments and defeats, and the push we need to go into the New Year)
We do seafood and steak with baked potatoes corn on the cob, which I froze in the summer. Very easy and simple so I can spend time with my family. Love your channel!❤️❤️
That’s different but luxurious. Happy holidays to you!
I love it ! Me and my fiance was talking about how cool you are for doing this especially for people that don't know what to do with limited funds and think that they can't make a dinner for special occasions because they let finances. We appreciate your videos
Yes, exactly.
We do soups and finger foods for Christmas. Always chili and potato soup and depending on the crowd we're going to have, sometimes another kind of soup. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Can’t wait!
Lisa, I am learning so much about being a real home chef from you & all your awes recipes. I am a low income senior & I only have a small budget for food & your videos have helped me to utilize my dollars in a wise & yet delicious way! Thank you so much & God bless!🙏👍✅💯❤️
I like how you help people utilize creativity. U rock
As a kid ,my dad put out a appetizers spread of cheese crackers ,lil hotdogs in sauce, hard salami and kalbasi ,shrimp cocktail, mixed nuts and fruit and many other items. At 1100 am we started snacking. Between 12 and 100 pm we had a big turkey dinner. For deserts. We had a variety of pies and cheesecake and platters and platters of homemade cookies and candy dishes full of chocolates and Christmas candy. We ate all day we ate all night. Everyone was welcomed at our home. The best memories ever..
Your dinner looked good!!,,
I'm so glad to see that you actually made food with the dollar tree food and not just open up packages and heated the food like every other channel I see do it
My mom chose prime rib for Christmas. She passed away 5 days before Christmas.
My husband did an outstanding job cooking the meat, and baked fresh bread, but I was so scatter brained, an hour before dinner was supposed to start, I realized I was supposed to make sides. So I nuked some whole potatoes, made a cheese sauce and threw frozen broccoli into it and dinner was served. It was DELICIOUS.
I'm obsessed with your videos. My granddaughter is struggling financially and I have send her your videos to help her on her food budget.
I was wondering how your meatloaf tasted. I watched another budget dinner from the dollar tree and they said it was terrible.
My favorite was the dessert...I am definitely making that.
Thanks for making videos and sharing.
We have prime rib or Turkey, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, Watergate salad, cranberry sauce, stuffing and either apple pie or pumpkin pie
I ALWAYS LOVE watching your videos!! If you ever came out with a cookbook, or something similar, I would definitely buy it!!!!!!!! 🥰🥰
We love eatin Sunday dinner like this and we appreciate yer instructions.
Everything looks yummy! You did a great job! 🎄
Love your videos, I’ve shared your videos with a few friends and they’ve found really helpful. Thanks for you tips and tricks.
I have never tried making homemade pasta but would love to try. You make it look easy! ❤ your channel!!!
Another Awesome Video! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Ooh la la❤❤❤. Champagne pudding cups. Those look tasty and so fancy
We usually go to my father in law’s house and we have smoked prime rib, twice baked potatoes, green bean casserole, and rolls for dinner. For dessert, a lot of times I will either make a cheesecake or chocolate cream pie or pumpkin pie.
God bless. You're vids are helping out so many people struggling during this time.
I've watched ALL your videos and I just think that you're amazing ! Loved every single one of them. Low budget recipes that actually looks good. Totally A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ! Keep up your awesome work. You are truly inspiring ! I'm a new subscriber by the way 😊. Sending tons of love from Canada 🇨🇦❤❤❤
We always have pot roast and rolls for Christmas dinner. And dessert is usually pumpkin pie. When I was growing up we had all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes and either ham or turkey for the meat. We don't really eat a big dinner anymore since my husband and I retired. I loved how your meatloaf looked. Thanks for giving me ideas in case we need to go low with our budget in the future.
We have either a honey roast gammon or steak pie 😋 Always have lots of brussles, roast potatoes, carrots, onion rings and Yorkshire puddings with gravy! Pudding is normally sticky toffee pudding and ice cream😋
My kids like meatloaf when I shape it into a ring. Then they think it's fancy. lol
They would really like it baked in a Bundt cake pan!
Thank you, Lisa Dawn. I have never needed to budget on food too much, but I am approaching retirement on social security only. I have been thinking I need to adjust my food purchases. You give me hope that I will be able to take care of myself. Keep up the good work.
For the future, I would love to hear you talk about what you like to keep in your pantry, you know, the stuff that helps you make the most of a limited weekly food budget.
I really admire how resourceful you are.
So that pudding you made…I have a Christmas version. You get vanilla pudding, sub the milk for egg nog and the entire cool whip container. I also add a little nutmeg. I put it in a pie pan and chill.
Christmas dinner here is ham & cold salads. Usually potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, deviled eggs & whatever else we choose to make. And we eat throughout the day. Nibble here & there kind of thing.
We do traditional turkey and fixings for Thanksgiving, but for Christmas we do fondue, both cheese with bread, and chocolate with strawberries. Everyone loves it, and it's not a lot of work.
