      Same, I think she should start asking people if they would let their faces be shown. I don't think it would change the power behind these messages very much at all. And I want to see their happiness!

      I understand the sentiment, but I so disagree. These women have allowed themselves to be vulnerable and exposed in reaching out for help. These women have obviously been through a lot, I guessing they are probably overwhelmed when they first see their hair. That is a too sacred a moment to be put on the internet and their identities revealed. This woman's family had no idea what was happening to her, her privacy needs to be respected.
      Please, don't change how careful you are to protect your clients.

      I also think she should continue concealing their faces. I wouldn’t want potential clients to feel pressured to show their faces if clients who show their faces on these videos were to get more positive comments. And also what KW said.

    While I was waiting for spine surgery, I was in so much pain, physically and emotionally that showering / washing & combing my hair was basically the last thing on my mind. I can easily see how someone could let this snowball until it’s out of control. When I had breast reduction, I couldn't wash my hair by myself for about 25 days, so I had to spend money going to a salon every week (my hair does not like to be washed more than once a week) so it wouldn't be hard when I could lift my arms. It wasn't ideal because I had to straighten it every time so my mom could brush it easier, but as I had the chance to do it like this it helped us so much. We were spending so much with surgery and meds that it wasn't that much and we had planned it beforehand. It's something to consider in these difficult parts of life.

    the same thing happened to me in middle school and I was continuously bullied for it, it’s what I was known for basically and made me very anti social. there was no hiding it. started as a couple small knots that I just ignored bc I thought I couldn’t get them out then next thing you know I ended up with my hair matted to my scalp in a big ball for all of my middle school years. I was always too ashamed to let anyone touch it or help me. and when someone finally did they cut it off and showed it to me and shamed me for how bad it was even tho I was a kid who was never taught how to maintain my hair. you are so kind and caring and patient I needed someone like you back then! I was the same way as a child. I wasn't allowed to have long hair like my sister because I "couldn't take care of it". But no one ever showed me how to take care of myself properly and relentlessly bullied for it. I even let it get tangled at my nape and when i went to the salon they just cut them out. Now, as an adult I have butt length hair that I am so proud of, and get compliments daily! It's crazy how much people can change over time.

    Im blown away by what you are doing. I’ve done hair for 15 years and I have seen very matted hair probably a dozen times. I never came across anyone who had been matted for more than a few months, but they were still tough cases. i agree it can happen to any race. I noticed part of the reason people get stuck in this situation for so long is because if they try to find someone to help them they get turned away and gawked at. So they are overwhelmed and reaching out for help, only to be publicly humiliated. Talk about adding insult to injury. That’s why whenever I came across someone like this, I’d pull a late night trying to get it out. I like your idea of splitting it up into daily sessions and I think that’s more realistic because I had one that took like 12 hours. I didn’t even think about splitting it up into sessions. I was afraid it would get worse again before I could remove it all if I didn’t do the whole thing at one time. Sorry this is so long, I am just so inspired by you, you are doing amazing work.

Each night I worked that knot out of her hair a little at a time. I then did a circular French braid so that it wouldn't tangle and mat again. Well, she passed away sadly. Her daughter wrote me a thank you letter and said that she was buried with the French braid I put in her hair with a flower crown. I was in tears. But I was I honored to have done that. I'd get such a big matt right where it would sit and it would stay there until I could find the time and energy to deal with it without hating myself. I still deal with it. You are absolutely right. The lack of personal care is rampant across the board: women, men, black, white - all races. People are not taking care of their bodies, skin, hair, diet, mental health. We are all struggling with this huge societal change: politics and pandemic, self isolating and high crime rates. We WILL come out the other side of this, but there will be some marks/scars left. I am not black and I am not young, but your care and patience is noteworthy. Thank You for your videos!

    I'm a Puerto Rican woman with really curly, kinky hair. When I watch your videos, they make me want to cry. My hair is so tender and my head is so tender headed.. When I was a kid, I would hide when they tried to brush or comb my hair because I'm the only one in my immediate family with this type of hair- my sisters have lose and straight hair like my mother's.. She has bone straight hair. I received my beautiful, tight curls from my father.. your work is amazing.. I've also decided to go into a service business(s) of personal training and massage and so i understand the lives that can be touched with a kind heart and someone who wants to help.♥️💛♥️I wish, in my 25+ years of working with clients that I was able to document their personal journeys because the stories are rare!
    What I want to know is how do you keep the tender headed clients to keep going? Because I KNOW HOW PAINFUL combing and managing certain hair- like mine- is? I wish know HOW GREAT IT FEELS AFTER it gets washed and brushed through😁 it has to feel so good to these women!! SO HAPPY I FOUND YOUR VIDEOS👍✌️
    THE WOMEN THAT SEEK YOU OUT ARE AMAZING!! Good job and I will watch and share your videos to help more women who go through these battles silently... To show them NOT TO GIVE UP!! 😁👍✌️🤗♥️♥️

      Hey 👋 what does over stimulation in salons mean?

    • @lavenderbee423
      @lavenderbee423 3 роки тому +15

      @@FreeSpiritMom For me, it was a lot of noise to process. I worked at a busy salon that specialized in haircuts, so having multiple clippers, hairdryers, and conversations going with the radio on while maintaining my own conversation with my client while using my clippers and hairdryers sometimes got to be too loud for me to handle. And having Autism, all this noise doesn't fade into the background for me; I am acutely aware of each noise.

      @@ellejohnson2817 Salon suites can be amazing for some stylists, but it makes you a business owner, with all the stresses that entails: Paying all the bills, picking up all the supplies, doing all of your own scheduling, inventory, advertising, paying taxes as a business, etc.
      It requires a good bit of money up front, because you need a selection of products, which is expensive. And it can be difficult to grow your clientele in a suite. If a stylist doesn't have a local clientele, and they work in an established salon, their salon's reputation can attract new clients to their chair. Of course, it's the stylist's skills & personality that will keep the clients coming back, but the salon gets them in the door. But in a suite, the stylist will need something else to draw new clients: Maybe a large existing clientele and a great referral program, or a great social media presence.
      Don't get me wrong, a suite can be amazing for the right stylist, and many make way more money there than in a traditional salon. But it's a lot of work, it requires skills that aren't related to hair, and even an amazing stylist and business owner might fail if they don't have a local clientele.
      That said, I totally understand what the original poster means about salons being overstimulating! I have only mild sensory issues, and sometimes I get so agitated working in a tight salon: It is so loud, and hot, and humid, and hair gets stuck to your skin. I can't imagine what they've been going through. I hope they find the perfect place for them to work, because they obviously love the craft.

    I have fine hair like this woman and it tangles super easy. I can understand why she let it go while tending to another part of her life. Just leaving it wet over night not tied or braided can cause it to super tangle and after a week start mini mat balls. I have also suffered from depression and caused my hair to damage and mat. It is easier then people think depending on your hair type and when you're going through something it only makes you feel worse to have to try and care for it when it has gotten bad. Thank God for people like you 🙏🏾
