I was a lost, married but separated single mom of 2 babies in 1984 at the ripe old age of 21 when I found this movie. I watched it until I had it memorized and it gave me the courage to get my GED so I could face my soon to be ex, be able to stand on my own 2 feet, get custody of, by then, all 3 of my babies (we got back together to see if it could work but you all know that story). I filed for divorce, packed up everything and moved back to my home town where I started college and became a teacher. This movie opened my eyes to a lot of things that I was too young and naive to even think about. Plus I've always loved Burton Cummings and his music, so that helped, too. I've finally found the movie on DVD so I can relearn all of the songs and lessons. I can continue to look forward and not live in the past. I will always be thankful to those who made this movie and for the synchronicity of how it fit perfectly into my life with the info I desperately needed at the time I needed it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ♥️
I taped it from TV many years ago, and just watched it again and converted it to DVD yesterday. I know the movie is hokey, but it's always been a favorite of mine. I could listen to these songs all day...
Something old something new. A song in a movie that i have never forgoten up to this very day. The movie melanie i first watched when i was about 13yo. Now im almost 40. Such nice music, and movie. I watched it for the first time on HBO. It was years that went by, but still i love everything about it. Thanks for posting!! What surprises me is the its all from Canada, yet so less people have ever heard about the flick and the songs.
Thanks for posting this video. I still have this movie on VHS tape (somewhere) and haven't forgotten how much I liked the movie and the music. I'll have to find it and watch again. Burton Cumming has a unique voice. Never have seen him in person, but would like to.
Another underrated song from Melanie, album was Sweet, Sweet. Beautiful song. Shows off his voice. Think BC is very down to earth, check his comments on Facebook.
Well I ran so fast, Never knew where I was running, Never quite exactly sure where I was bound, Always spinning round, But I can't live back in the past, Looking all around the ashes, Picking up broken pieces everywhere, Picking up broken pieces everywhere, Here I go again, but it's different, I can't believe what I get back from you, The feeling can't be wrong, Cause it's coming on much too strong, Something old turning into something new ...
seen this movie when I was real young, and actually bought the vhs about 10 yrs. but don't have a vhs player so i can't watch it now! i love this movie, love this song, and want to hear real good.
It's too late to learn, Never knew much about loving, Spent a lot of days and nights running round alone, Always on my own, And as those memories start to burn, Looking all around the ashes, Picking up broken pieces everywhere, Picking up broken pieces everywhere, Here I go again, but i'ts different, I can't believe what I get back from you, The feeling can't be wrong, Cause it's coming on much too strong, Something old turning into something new ...
thanks also for the post-i saw this film for the first time at the Camp Lejuene Theater--the theater was filled. at the end almost every marine had at least one tear in his/her eyes. these rough tough men and women were all touched with thoughts of home and lost lovers (the girls {and boys} they left behind. thanks for the memory
i remember when it first came out and was shown on Camp Leljune--have you ever seen a bunch of marines with tearsin their eyes and i'm not only talking about the women marines---a great but under rated film---wish t was available
Here I go again, But it's different, than before I can't believe what I get back from you, The feeling can't be wrong, Cause it's coming on much too strong, Something old turning into something new ... Something old, It's turning into something, turning into something, Something old, You're never going to find it, Never going to find it now, Something Old turning into something new Thanks Burton ;)
Actually, this song is called "Something Old, Something New." it is off of the album "Sweet Sweet" (I burned it from record to CD so that I could put it on my ipod.) Killer song. Amazing voice.

My father was the Unit Location Manager. We spent many years listening to Burton Cummings solo work. Truly a Canadian gem.
I taped it from TV many years ago, and just watched it again and converted it to DVD yesterday. I know the movie is hokey, but it's always been a favorite of mine. I could listen to these songs all day...
GeorgiaPat would you be willing to convert another one. I LOVE this movie and can't find it anywhere, I'd be so grateful
