Simple, solid advice, but people suck at doing this (it's kind of like how to not be obese, simply eat less and move more to be in an energy deficit to lose bodyfat, but people suck at doing this in the details of everyday life even if they understand the overarching concept)
Yep, and that's where Dave's plan excels; helping people build an approach that reinforces overcoming the inertia of everyday life to actually DO the right thing(s) when it comes to personal money management. He's very open about saying there's nothing new about his advice. But as he says, personal finance is 20% knowledge, and 80% execution (or whatever his favorite word is that day.) So he focuses on teaching the 20% for those who have never learned, but what he's really great at is helping folks make progress on the 80% with a plan that's been proven to work over and over, for decades now.
His plan works with cruddy economic mindsets. He has them attack their _smallest_ debt first for the thrill of achievement rather than the highest interest rates, because the money-ignorant need to "see" something go away rather than a fast-growing debt accruing more slowly.
@Stevarooni "Cruddy" is probably right in some cases, but the point is that lots of people need help to develop a personal finance plan that works. DR has excelled at that unlike anyone else I know of. When we took FPU, it wasn't because we were low-income of dumb, but rather because an unexpected rush of uncovered and partially-covered medical bills slammed us in a short amount of time, wiping out our savings and putting my back against the wall. We could have filed bankruptcy, but because we took FPU, we dug out of that very deep hole and ended up fine.

I don’t see how companies can get away with only accepting cards. US currency is “legal tender.” It seems like it should be illegal for them to not accept it. The Indianapolis Convention Center will not accept cash for any purchases. How can they get away with this?
Go to the bank and pull out $6000 or electronically transfer $6000 from your emergency fund to your bank account and pay with a debit card to save your favorite. 😊 If the Zelda game was that important to you, you would have had it on your calendar and in your budget for that month to have cash in an envelope.😁

I’m new to this, although of course I have heard of Dave Ramsey before. What I don’t understand is why it’s wrong to use a credit card if you pay it off in full every month so you pay zero interest.
It isn't. Dave Ramsey assumes you will be disciplined enough to pay off debt, but not disciplined enough to responsibly use credit after. I've put every expense I can on credit cards since graduating college. I have not paid interest, ever, but have reaped the benefits of travel and cashback rewards. When it comes to things like low interest mortgages vs investing, Dave's advice/beliefs are straight up factually wrong. He is incredibly dogmatic on debt, perhaps because he was irresponsible with it in the past and projects his own mistakes on to others.
Because most ppl credit cards are like crack. Well over 50 percent of ppl carry a balance. Same reason why ppl are obese. Discipline. If u don’t have a cc u can’t use it. Becomes part of your code of ethics. And helps u stay outta debt.

They might get the concept, but because they don't have a sound financial plan as a basis, they put themselves into a position to not execute on the concept. Full disclosure: My wife and I took Financial Peace University in 2001, and I was an FPU coordinator/leader for many years. I've had folks in class that range from those truly in financial trouble to professionals who just thought there had to be a better way, and even a couple of CPAs! No one ever told me the class (then a 13-week affair) wasn't worth their time. Even the financial pros picked up on things they could use to help their clients. The harsh truth is credit cards typically just extend time in poverty. Very hard to build wealth when you keep going further into the negative. As he says, debt is the most heavily marketed product in mankind's history. They take advantage of the poor, everyone should do their best to avoid them.

What specifically is immoral about having a bill and then paying it. And is there a specific time period that makes it moral or immoral? Do you pay your power bill up front? Water and gas? What about the plumber that fixes your pipes? Do you pay him before he does the job? No, you accrue a debt and pay it. The Bible only concerns itself with taxes and the ultimate debt that Christ paid for us. Where I think it becomes immoral is when you don't pay your monetary debts. How you pay them is between you and whoever you owe.

Proverbs 22:26-27 “Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts. If you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.” Do not become a guarantor of any loan (Proverbs 22:26-27; Proverbs 11:15). Do not owe anyone, and the one who does becomes a slave to the lender (Romans 13:8; Proverbs 22:7).
