I've been a fan of Arch Enemy for YEARS and when Angela stepped down, I was worried about Alyssa coming in (even though I was really impressed with The Agonist) but she's worn the crown wonderfully for like 7 or 8 years now. But when I heard her clean vocals on this the day it released, I was blown away. I didn't realize how much I missed the soul and power she has outside of her fantastic and technical growls. This is such an invigorating song that I pre-ordered Deceivers immediately! Thanks for such an insightful reaction to this. Love you Grannies!

Same here. I discovered Arch Enemy right after Angela joined. I'm not a huge fan of death metal to begin with, so like you I was concerned. It's taken me a while to warm up to her, honestly. I loved Angela because of her enunciation. I could understand that she was saying. That being said, I think Alissa's enunciation is better than Angela's, from what I have heard.

They are actually now a 5pc band, lead vocals, bass, TWO lead guitars, and drummer. The 2nd lead guitarist is quit famous before AE and he joined AE about same time as Alyssa took over for Angela (who is now the band's manager). I've really gotten hooked on AE since Alyssa because the lead singer, because I really really like her harsh vocals better (they are more melodic and I can understand words) and she can mix it with clean vocals as well. The have only recently really added her clean vocals to the band (other than just one song here and there) more recently. The first song that hooked me was ARCH ENEMY - The Eagle Flies Alone (OFFICIAL VIDEO), which was all harsh except chorus was clean. I LOVED that song. Since Jinjer and Nightwish (w/ Floor) I've really gotten hooked on the female leads with both harsh/clean vocals. Alyssa makes AE another option for me!!

I wasn't a big fan of Arch Enemy until I saw them play with Behemoth a few weeks ago. It wasn't that I had anything against them I just hadn't listened to them a lot. Hearing them live was absolutely insane. They gained a fan for life from that show!

Funny you mentioned Nemesis. That's the song that turned me into a fan of this genre, let alone band. They're also the only band I listen to consistently in this style as well .
Over the years I think I've purchased 2 or 3 Arch Enemy "Albums" (Yeah, I'm older :P) I've always loved their music writing. Honestly, I could take or leave the "aggressive" vocals from those albums but the riffs and beats I was always behind 100% I think it's wonderful that she is letting us hear her singing. I knew she was a great vocalist from other projects she had worked on, but never really heard it with Arch Enemy. This is an amazing emotional song. So much feeling. I love her clean and clean with and edge and her harmonies. I love that I can actually understand her aggressive vocals as well. Because of this song I'll be purchasing "Deceivers". It's been about 10 years since I purchased my last Arch Enemy album. So happy they spread their wings with this one. She's not hard on the eyes either :P But the song is outstanding as a whole!

Did you know Alissa White-Gluz, AE's lead singer has toured earlier with Kamelot (another band you could react to if you haven't already) and that she and Elize Ryd (now Amaranthe) both help Nigthwish during the so-call Denver debacle and replace Anette Olzon, then NW lead Singer, during that concert? both are good friends with NW and Floor Jansen.

😂😂😂the Midwestern accents and verbiage are strong. I’m so insecure about my Minnesota accent. I didn’t even know that was a thing. Same as “ope” which is either Minnesota accent or just plain Midwestern idk. I’ll have to go back and watch those reaction videos for their Granny Haze impressions. The guitar riffs had me instantly. I like songs like this that are heavy and then they have a point where they go soft and all of a sudden go back to heavy again :) That is one of the main reasons I like Master Of Puppets so much :) One of the other songs which is my favorite like this is Iron Maiden's Rhime Of The Ancient Mariner :) A long song but very worth the listen :)

just FYI allissa has a pretty great history with the bands kamalot, the agonist and she's even filled in for night wish live. she has way more range than a lot of people give her credit for I was so glad to see them expand their sound here to reflect that.

Happy Friday Grannies! That definately had a ton of drama but my Nu-metal heart just can't handle the "tweedley dee" non stop guitar solo! I love her growl, I'd love to master that!. I heard a rumor y'all may be listening to Bloodywood's Dana Dan this weekend. Make sure you turm on the closed captions so you can read the lyrics. I don't know if it is bc of the songs content, but they chose to make reading the lyrics optional on this one. I figured it out later when I read their description that included those instructions. It is not auto generated like most CC, it is actually provided by the band. Reading the lyrics makes a huge difference, although the music really speaks for itself in a way.

Definitifly a masterpiece! I love the eye-catcher Alissa with her growl or (beautiful) clean or soft voice. Her stage presence is simply magical and incredible! It is not the 1st time for Arch Enemy. Listen to the song "Reason to Believe" on album WILL TO POWER with clean voice. I think it was a long overdue step, use the full potential of her voice. Btw. who designs her fuckin' outfits? I've herad by herself... And the other guys? Guitars? Bass? Drums? Really perfect and amazing. A lot of ideas that makes me addicted eg. solos, the bridge ... This song blows my mind away!

Thank you ladies. It's a pretty good song (awesome instrumentals) with errors the size of gorillas. Zero energy pre-chorus and an odd song structure. Cleans are all right but these aren't executed properly. They kill the energy. The ones in their other songs are done much better. I'm only speaking in the context of Arch Enemy and their 27y history.

It's been about 10 years since I purchased my last Arch Enemy album. So happy they spread their wings with this one. She's not hard on the eyes either :P But the song is outstanding as a whole!

Did you know Alissa White-Gluz, AE's lead singer has toured earlier with Kamelot (another band you could react to if you haven't already) and that she and Elize Ryd (now Amaranthe) both help Nigthwish during the so-call Denver debacle and replace Anette Olzon, then NW lead Singer, during that concert? both are good friends with NW and Floor Jansen.

The guitar riffs had me instantly. I loooove guitar. My father in law calls it “crunchy guitar.” I liked the vocals especially the singing mixed in with some of the more intense growly stuff.
I’m trying to get some spring cleaning done today, which might be one of the dumbest ideas I’ve had in a while. Lydia barely slept last night so we are all tired. I’m hoping between her appointments this month and the upcoming appointments we can finally figure out a good plan for her. Just glad for coffee. I like songs like this that are heavy and then they have a point where they go soft and all of a sudden go back to heavy again :) That is one of the main reasons I like Master Of Puppets so much :) One of the other songs which is my favorite like this is Iron Maiden's Rhime Of The Ancient Mariner :) A long song but very worth the listen :)

just FYI allissa has a pretty great history with the bands kamalot, the agonist and she's even filled in for night wish live. she has way more range than a lot of people give her credit for I was so glad to see them expand their sound here to reflect that.

Happy Friday Grannies! That definately had a ton of drama but my Nu-metal heart just can't handle the "tweedley dee" non stop guitar solo! I love her growl, I'd love to master that!. I heard a rumor y'all may be listening to Bloodywood's Dana Dan this weekend. Make sure you turm on the closed captions so you can read the lyrics. I don't know if it is bc of the songs content, but they chose to make reading the lyrics optional on this one. I figured it out later when I read their description that included those instructions. It is not auto generated like most CC, it is actually provided by the band. Reading the lyrics makes a huge difference, although the music really speaks for itself in a way.

Definitifly a masterpiece! I love the eye-catcher Alissa with her growl or (beautiful) clean or soft voice. Her stage presence is simply magical and incredible! It is not the 1st time for Arch Enemy. Listen to the song "Reason to Believe" on album WILL TO POWER with clean voice. I think it was a long overdue step, use the full potential of her voice. Btw. who designs her fuckin' outfits? I've herad by herself...

Thank you ladies. It's a pretty good song (awesome instrumentals) with errors the size of gorillas. Zero energy pre-chorus and an odd song structure. Cleans are all right but these aren't executed properly. They kill the energy. The ones in their other songs are done much better. I'm only speaking in the context of Arch Enemy and their 27y history.
