Academy Award® nominee Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Academy Award® winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Hidden Figures) star in Participant Media and DreamWorks Pictures’ Green Book. In his foray into powerfully dramatic work as a feature director, Peter Farrelly helms the film inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line.
When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger-as well as unexpected humanity and humor-they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.
Jim Burke (The Descendants), Charles B. Wessler (The Heartbreak Kid) produce alongside Farrelly’s fellow writers, Brian Currie and Nick Vallelonga, and Farrelly. The drama is executive produced by Participant’s Jeff Skoll (The Help) and Jonathan King (Lincoln), along with Octavia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) and Kwame L. Parker (Kill Bill series), as well as Cinetic Media’s John Sloss (Boyhood) and Steven Farneth. Linda Cardellini (Brokeback Mountain, The Founder) co-stars.

There's a reason both men remained close friends for the next 51 years

Initially, I had watched Green Book by accident. My friend and I had went to the cinema to watch Glass, but had misread the time it was shown and had missed the last screening. So, we started to look at what else was being shown, and came across Green Book. He wasn't really sure, but eventually we agreed and bought tickets for Green Book. Since then, Green Book has became both of our favourite films, and since then we have both watched Glass and thought it was... decent. I'm genuinely so grateful that we misread what time Glass was being shown, as otherwise we both would have probably never watched Green Book, and missed out on watching a masterpiece!
As much as I love glass, you picked the better picture for sure!!
I love this comment. I haven’t seen this movie yet, but this warms my heart.
That’s also kind of what happened to me. Me and my friends wanted to go watch a movie but after about 30 minutes of arguing what to watch we decided on green book none of us knew what it was about except from the trailer and we were like we have nothing else better to do. We went in and I don’t know if i can speak for the rest of the fellas but that was one of the best films I’ve ever seen

One of the best movies I've seen in many many years. I laughed a lot during the first hour or so, but then things started to get serious and it wasn't that funny anymore. That scene at the end when Dr. Shirley arrives home and sits by himself in the living room shook me up. And then Tony at home surrounded by family and friends but I believe thinking about his new friend gave me a sense of hope in the middle of all the hatred and racial division that seems to be growing more and more as time goes by in the US. @@edofluit6568 Sometimes I'm not so sure we have moved forward as much as it appears. Particularly during the last 6-7 yrs.
It's like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
@@edofluit6568 These days it's another type of racism we see out there. For instance, when the white lady is walking down the street and immediatelly after noticing the presence of a person of color nearby holds her purse tighter and closer to her body as if afraid of being assaulted, but not when surrounded by white strangers, that's a sign of racism. Particularly if you consider that the most violent and heinous crimes are commited by white males, reason why more white males are sentenced to death yet more ppl of color are actually executed.
I've been there, I've witnessed myself, I've been one of those ppl of color who got the look of "stay away from me"and believe me, it feels awful. Particularly the first time it happened getting off from work at this company in midtown Manhattan in NYC. I was walking on the sidewalk on my way to the subway station and as soon as this lady saw me she grabbed her purse tighter than if I had actually been trying to take it away from her. When I got home I told my born and raised in NYC then wife and she said: "get used to it".

I also have to say, Willem Dafoe, Christian Bale, Viggo Mortenseen and Bradley Cooper were ALL oscar worthy. I just think to rule out Rami is wrong. The oscars we're tough last year

After you watch this documentary, ask yourself, "Why is it that Black people are clueless when it comes to being aware of the complicity in the "Act of Genocide" against black people in Africa?" Take out your cell phone and locate the country it was manufactured it. China! Everytime Blacks in the United States purchase an electronic device made in China, they are literally slaughtering their own people in Africa. Now, if you are genuinely concerned about making a change in how black people all over the world are treated, do this: Call or text the S.O.B.'s that manufactured your cell phone and tell them that you will no longer be purchasing any of their products this upcoming Christmas shopping season (Black Friday). It's time for every black person who has a brain that works to insist that companies that rob Africans of their natural resources and labor had better open up factories in the continent "OR ELSE!" Now, let's see how ready you are.

Chris Smith It has nothing to do with racism. People’s idea of best picture would be a movie everyone liked not a movie that puts you in your feelings. It looks like a good movie and I’m gonna check it out with my husband. But I never heard about it until spike lee talking about it on UA-cam. Most people watch the Oscars for the red carpet unless they got money on it 😂. There’s also been a lot of jokes over the years about the categories of the Oscars because most people don’t even pay attention anymore. Not everything is racism. Gotta remember not everybody is watching the same the or keeping up with the same events. This is a big world.
People don’t *hate* this movie because it’s a bad movie, they hate it *won* Best Picture because compared to the other phenomenal choices for Best Picture, this one is highly average. The Favourite, BlackKklansman, and Roma were highly praised movies because of how thoughtfully original and crafted they were. While this won because “racism bad,” don’t get me wrong this movie is great it’s heartwarming, but that’s the problem.
It’s nothing Oscar worthy, it’s nothing phenomenal it’s just another movie about racism and how badly colored people were treated. You could say that about BlackKklansman, but at least it touches the subject in a different way that makes it interesting.
Overall, nobody hates this movie, they just hate how this average movie beat the other movies that did deserve it. Especially Roma, a carefully crafted film that had personal meaning to the director that felt personal, lost...
At least Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther didn’t win, just imagine a dark timeline in where that happened.

How about if "YOU" unite under "THEIR" humanity by going on UA-cam and typing in: "CONGO, MY PRECIOUS, THE CURSE OF COLTAN IN CONGO'S MINES." This documentary will demonstrate just how hypocritical people are when it comes to actually "DOING" something to stop the "DOCTRINE OF WHITE SUPREMACY" from victimizing miners in Africa. Take out your cell phone and locate the country where it was manufactured. China! Why is that Africans sacrifice their live to provide Europeans, Arabs, and Indians with the strategic minerals needed to employ Chinese workers in the production of America's consumer electronics? If Africans are intelligent enough to dig that shit out of the ground, then they are intelligent enough to manufacture any electronic device right where the mines are located! E-mail the corporate headquarters of the company that manufactured your cell phone and let them know that you are joining a global movement to bring justice to Africa's miners by boycotting their products until the lable on their products says "MADE IN AFRICA."

Holy shit, this is a Peter Farrelly movie? As in the Farrelly Bros.
Shockingly, yes. I wonder if this had been a passion project for Peter.
“It takes courage to change people hearts.” I feel that.
For someone here looking and thinking if this is a good watch. Watch it. It's definitely one of the best films I've watched. Truly amazing.
Won the Oscar for best movie and I couldn't be more happy about it
This has "Oscar" written all over it, if not something wrong.
Well, You were right 2018 nominations
@@elijahdale4546 2019*
they are so predictable it's laughable
Indeed
@OB1 Well, it's the best new movie I have watched in a long, long time. Perfect in it's own way.
One of the finest movie I've seen. Truly deserves the awards. And the two lead... Acted so well.
It's funny, it's smart, it's heartbreaking, it's astounding and absolutely beautiful.
This movie made me feel it all.
I went to watch it twice in two days. Best movie nominated for Oscars this year. And by far! Brilliant performances and an amazing story! Huge thank you to everyone involved ! WOW
*Good Night! Seriously?!*
Looks like Viggo is about to get his Oscar
Let's hope
Nah, his performance his over the top to the extreme.... This movie looks like it's wanting Oscar gold, but it'll probably grab Razzies instead
He should have picked one up for his performance in Eastern Promises
Nah. This is another typical performance. Not even the best of Viggo. There's other performance's this year that are gonna be better than his. Want me to name some? Christian Bale -- Backseat, Timothy Chalamet.
OGKennyPowers FOR WHAT BEING A SELL OUT
Profound movie watching two men transform, grown, and learn from each other. I can't say enough about this movie.
This was a great movie. I understand the hate it's receiving because of the facts and stuff, but simply as a picture, this was a masterpiece.
Viggo amazingly nailed this role for this film, gained weight and his Bronx accent OMG I never watched his films before this, when I watched his interview on Jimmy Kimmel today after the Oscars couldn’t believe he’s just so opposite of this character!!! So humble and slim, and slightly golden blonde hair. Couldn’t even recognise him at first. Don’t know if I’ll ever be able to watch his other films without this character.
On a gloomy cloudy morning....this trailer warmed my heart.
Abhilash S trailer was released two days ago, you made this comment one day ago. Today is Thursday...
@Thom Coe Maybe it warmed Abhilash's heart on two different mornings.
Excellent, heart-warming movie!!! Viggo and Ali rock the screen in this. Must see. True story, which makes it more the brilliant.
If Viggo Mortensen doesn't get an Oscar by the time he retires, it will be a huge loss for oscars. He has given impeccable performances over the years and has been unfortunate to lose each time
This is like a movie that would come out in the 90s (starring Robert De Niro And Denzel Washington)
Thanks! Now you ruined the whole thing for me, knowing that those are the wrong casts :(
No its not! Denzel would NEVER play a gay man who NEEDS the assistance of a Italian American while being blinded!
Nah... I can't imagine De Niro as a pianist, but I can imagine Denzel cracking some skulls.
@@daddyfamlittle6262 Viggo is suppose to be Italian in this? That accent sounded Russian to me.
Denzel Washington and Robert DeNiro have never been in the same movie together
Because it takes courage to change people's heart. . .
*Yes, that sounds plausible... But not an absolute!*
So many amazing lines in this movie
Heart transplant surgeons must be brave
Hi, Minerva! Courage is only a precursor to "ACTION." How would you like to help African miners at home who are enslaved in mines producing the minerals needed to manufacture your cell phone? Go on UA-cam and type in: "CONGO, MY PRECIOUS, THE CURSE OF COLTAN IN CONGO'S MINES." After you view this documentary, ask yourself, "Why is it that Africans die in mines to provide the raw materials needed to produce my electronic gadgets? Do you plan on buying your chidren a new cell phone this coming Christmas season (Black Friday)? If you are, you'll be supporting the Genocide that 's occuring right now in African mines. Do this: Text, e-mail, or call every manufacturer of the electronic devices that you own and tell them that you are not purchasing any more of their crap until they build factories right in Africa where the minerals are mined so that Black people can live prosperoulsy like everyone else on this planet. Do you have the "COURAGE" to do that?
Start, Story line, Ending are fantastic. One of the best I ever watched and I can watch this Over and over again.
What an amazing movie! Best movie i have seen in a while. Absolutely perfect. Only thing that i wish that the movie was longer.
Here's an unpopular opinion. I know Mahershala Ali will be nominated for an Oscar for best supporting role, but honestly, he is as much the main character as Mortensen. They should both get nominated for best leading role. This movie was absolutely great!
Mahershala Ali is legendary stuff
Abhilash S 💐🌹💵💎
Ali is legendary stuff and may also be an Oscar winner!
My favorite scene. The look on Dr. Shirleys face when he threw out the chicken wing out the window. Obviously the first thing he's ever thrown out of a car window, any window. Perfectly acted.
Hacía mucho tiempo que no veía una película tan maravillosa como esta.. Dura más de dos horas pero te tiene atrapado constantemente y el tiempo pasa volando..Grandes actuaciones de los dos protagonistas.
Totally deserved the Oscar, 🏆 portrays so well that not everything is what it seems, and I was so touched by their friendship😥!
They learn so much with each other, beautiful.
The Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor will come from this movie. Book it!
which ones which? 😂
I certainly hope Viggo can snag one at least; dudes a special talent.
Prime Judicator lol. Don't count on it.
no they won't. Rami Malek
@@christiantran9144 Viggo is up for best actor, Ali for supporting. The trailer doesn't show it, but Tony Lip was more the lead character.
Also there is gonna be intense competition between the lead and supporting actors of Green Book, Vice, Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody.
My bet for Best Actor is either Christian Bale or Viggo Mortensen, and Supporting Actor will be between Mahershala Ali or Sam Rockwell.
Viggo deserved an Oscar for this. His transformation is insane.
Man, viggo morttensen knocked his role out of park, incredible performance.
Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali? Count me in.
How doea Viggo Mortensen doesn't have an oscar!!!! 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Yeah, I wish he won!!!
I know right?!
I watched it yesterday and he deserved an oscar. He was so good.
because everybody in this earth loves music.
@@asahel980 But it was a caricaturish and inconsistent performance of a music legend, which won the best actor...
Crazy how this wasn't a traditional comedy and yet it made me laugh more than a lot of actual Hollywood comedy movies. Extremely beautiful and it gets dark a lot of times too, highly recommend, way better than expected
This movie legit changed my life. In my Top5 of all time hands down, outstanding film.
I can't stop watching this trailer.
