I love listening to the elderly talk about times past. As a child I would listen to them talk while the other kids were playing. My grandma would tell me all about her life and her grandparents who were from Ireland, I would listen to her for hours. Having time with them is truly a blessing.

One of the things I've always been happy with is the time I spent listening to Grandma, Grandpa and all the other old people talk about their life and times gone by. They were and are a priceless treasure trove of information.

This is a moment to treasure, especially when you have photographs, you are so lucky to have this! My grandparents perished long before I was born, but I did have a great grandmother, she was 98 when she died in 1977, I remember her having two kitchens in her house, one for dairy, and the other one for meat, and saying Jewish prayers over us at night when us little children would go to sleep at night in front of one of the fireplaces, I will never forget my ti es there as a child!

I'M so happy to have discovered Celebrating Appalachia! Where I come from, women don't cook and bake anymore.. they're too busy and can't be bothered. I, on the other hand, LOVE TO COOK AND BAKE for the people I love! I am thoroughly enjoying these stories because they remind me of my childhood..Thank you for sharing!!

Used to love to sit & listen to mama & daddy talk about their lives & stuff. I could sit for hours & listen to them even though I was a kid. Blessings to your mom, you & your family, Tipper! Oh Tipper, what a treasure! I interviewed all of my mom's brother's and sisters. I would not take a million dollars for the stories they shared. The laughter that we shared and the feeling they were stars being interviewed was almost overwhelming. I interviewed two sisters together, and I have never laughed so hard at each of them trying to outdo the other. Wonderful memories and histories for generations to look back on. Thanks again...Love it!

I love hearing from the Grandladies about how life was back in their days. I was fortunate to know my Great-grandma, Marianna, we called "Babcia" (Polish for Grandma), and me and my sister, back in the late '50's & 60's would spend summer weeks with her & her daughter, my Great-Aunt Veronica and her husband, Uncle Bill. My Aunt was a very good cook, and I learned to make pie crust from her. Your Granny and Pap were such a handsome couple. I liked her place mats, the stitch and her colors that she chose to match her curtains! I like that she pays attention to detail like that! I'm 68 and I like that way of matching things! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️You're both get 5 Stars!❤️

Growing up I was tight with all of my grandparents. Not many people can say they had one grandma who was born in the mountains of Norway and the other was born in a covered wagon in the Cherokee nation of Oklahoma. My Norwegian grandma skied to school. When she was two, her father made a pair of skis for her. I had cousins who hardly knew our grandparents and often ask me how I got so close and had so many stories of them and the struggles and joys of their lives. I just was interested in their lives and what it was like growing up. Just listen to them young people! Granny is a jewel, Tipper. My wife never learned to cook and couldn't even turn a stove on when we got married. I taught her what my mother and grandmothers taught me and she turned out to be one of the best cooks in the family. Love this channel.

Granny certainly is a special woman. I love to go visit, she is always crocheting something. I usually go to the gym in the morning then stop by to see her on my way home. In the fashion of true country hospitality, she always tries to feed me something or to stay and have lunch. She tells me stories of her family and we have a nice visit and all the time she is still crocheting!!

Granny puts me in mind of my precious great grandmother on my Mom's side. Everybody in the family called her Mommy. Mommy used to tell us about what it was like when she was growing up. Mommy was a cook in a nearby school as well. She was well loved by the school kids. Fascinating to listen to what times gone by were like, especially in Appalachia. Times were hard, but in some ways they were better than today. Pap telling Granny he'd teach her to cook was so sweet! All that good cooking in your family was passed on from generation to generation and that's rare these days! ❤❤❤

This is wonderful. It's so interesting to hear her stories and thoughts - especially in the last few minutes of the video. When you ask about the convenience of the grocery store vs. doing it yourself. "Some people don't can nothing." = a wonder in her voice like "how can they survive like that?" - "It's a lot of help in the winter time" = canning helps her provide for her family - "I just mostly make homemade soup and green beans" = and then you name several other items she cans hahaha - "So many of them have to work" = like she doesn't??? hahaha - Thank you for saving and sharing this conversation!

Both of my grandmothers taught me how to make biscuits. Both were from Eastern Tennessee. My grandma on my mothers side made water biscuits...grandma on my fathers side made buttermilk biscuits. I used to make them for my wife and children at least twice a week on weekends and occasional weekdays. Of course, I included sausage gravy and eggs. It was always a debate which was better. I am partial to the water biscuits because I spent more time with grandma on my mothers side...but both were really good. I have slacked off since my children got married and moved away. This video has convinced me to start making both types again. I'm the only one in my family that can pass this along. Thank you for this channel...you are helping people like me understand the importance of passing along what we have been taught by our Appalachian families. It includes much more than biscuits, as I'm sure you know.

I am a new subscriber to your and your daughters channels. I love each and every video so far your cooking to the girls singing. I have being bing watching all day. And I have like every video. I am not big on commenting on peoples video's but I had to respond to this one. My Nannie was the love of my life and I miss her even after twenty years. Listening to your Granny reminds me of her. I don't know her but I fell in love with her in this video.

Granny is such a “Peach”! What a blessing that you have these talks on video. She reminds me of my Granny. I have a crocheted Angel I’m going to mail you. A good friend of mine used to make these but she’s moved to her daughter’s house now. Maybe Granny or Korie can figure out the pattern. I use mine as a bookmark in my Bible but I have also seen them hanging up or on a Christmas tree. 😇

What a blessing she is! Reminds me of my own Granny, who's birthday is also in March. My little sweet Granny will be 90 this year. Hard to believe. I could listen to the Grandma's talk forever and a day! They have so much to teach us! And we have so much to learn! God bless!

This made me tear up. She reminds me so much of my great grandmother, Eva. I’d give anything if she could be here to see how I turned out. I know I’ll see her in heaven. But, I’d give anything to talk to her now. Thanks for documenting all of this - it means the world to me. God bless you.

Thanks for sharing Granny with us. I can see why you and your daughters are so nice! It’s fascinating to hear about her younger life. I am 56 years old and have never seen anything being canned. It’s a different life! 💖

Granny reminds me of my Grammy Loretta who passed away this year. She outlived her husband by 20 years and then passed on his birthday. She wrote every one of her 10 kids and 50 grandkids cards on their birthday, even after it became difficult due to a stroke. I'll always remember sitting with her as a little girl and hearing stories just like this ❤
