10:14 "Why did he put the finger back on...?" My guess is: Snip-Snip was originally a medical robot. His first programming his to heal. Then, I guess the stoners put the harvesting program, without deleting the medical. So his first reflex is to help Lucy and then harvest her body. Plus, it's seems easy to reattach a limb in this universe, at least for robots like Snip-Snip. So, if they're harvesting organs for resell, I would assume they also sell other body parts. So, a full hand would be more valuable than one with a missing finger.
another way of thinking about it is the medical programming could even be hardware level programming that couldn't be removed and they programmed extra commands in at the software level that get executed after the primary hardware level programming, i don't think this ever is or will be explained by the show every reactor seems to have this same question, EXCEPT fallout game players
Yeah most likely core programming level... but also his system is scrambled... "the bombs... must have been a week ago at least". Codsworth who Haylo seems to be remembering has no system glitch so it always seemed to me to be a callback to Primm Slim in New Vegas.
I'm glad they went hard on Norm's story too. It really nails the feeling of exploring a vault in the games and piecing together what happened inside. Such a good show!
This episode blew me away because ir captured the player experience so well. In almost every game/play-through you came across a superduper-mart early one where you usually find you first proper set, and when you come out of it you feel ready to start your RPG-journey very much like Lucy gained several levels in "thoughness" here and got her first proper gun and a set of wasteland-armour. Her " Yeah, I did that. Okay World, I'm ready for you now!" stance at the end is exactly the experience that players have in the game. Clearly, someone on the production did not only see the allure in the IP, but also understood the gameplay experience (and thus which emotions they have to capture on screen ). P.S.: Within that we of course also have to mention Lucy's "Oh shit, listened to these Weirdos instead of following my moral intuition!"-moment as a prime example for a gameplay experience that was adapted compentently for the show.
It's too bad she got it back almost immediately. Would have felt like actual consequences if she didn't get it back. That said I appreciate they likely didn't have it permanently lost due to budget concerns (would require CGI clean up in every scene, same reason they didn't add Daenery's purple eyes in GoT). I think now the show has done so well they could afford it, but it wasn't projected to do anywhere near this good, and needing a CGI budget or oddly block her hand for every scene she's in just isn't very good even with a large budget.
@@lost4468yt It wasn't supposed to have physical consequences. It's supposed to be a metaphor for losing innocence and replacing it with a little hardness.
@@Scyth0r sure but it doesn't really do that if there's no consequences? Her actions are easily fixed rapidly thanks to random luck. She doesn't have to live with the consequences other than momentary pain. It'd have been far more meaningful if it was permanent.
@@lost4468yt You live in a weird moral universe. Who is imposing these consequences? Whose job is it? The Ghoul imposed the Old Testament penalty on her, a finger for a finger. That’s it, transaction done. He doesn’t have to follow her around and make sure she doesn’t get a new finger. He got his and after that, it’s fingers under the bridge, as absolutely no one says. So who is supposed to impose this additional consequence? And why would they? This all sounds like the morality of the New Testament, specifically Revelations and a whole lot of later post facto Christian dogma about God’s justice and eternal punishment that some Christians made up. Because what good is an eternal reward if your enemies aren’t suffering eternal punishment, right? If the losing of her finger satisfies The Ghoul’s justice, for what reason should she be further punished? Did she break her code when she bit off The Ghoul’s finger? She did not. She was battling for her survival. The Golden Rule prescribes one’s behavior to one’s neighbors. Someone who has taken you prisoner is not your neighbor. I don’t know if this is obvious, but I think Fallout carries a great deal of moral weight, as all great literature and epic stories should. The fabric of the story is woven with threads of ethics and moral philosophy. There are even citations of source material. 😂 But the moral laws of the vengeful God of Revelation do not apply here. That God has already passed through this landscape. The Law of the Wasteland follows Hobbes’ conception of existence as being a war of all against all, and life being “nasty, brutish, and short”. And into this wasteland steps Lucy the Seeker of Justice and Lost Fathers, the embodiment of the Golden Rule. (And in this episode she has learned the valuable lesson that good intentions are not a sufficient guide for the Golden Rule, that one must exercise wisdom and not act based on naive assumptions.) Anyway, Lucy’s moral thesis is laid out explicitly in the second episode, at the campfire meeting. If you rewatch the series, I urge you to pay particular attention to the dialogue. It’s like the topic sentence of an essay.
Well she did go on at him about the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have them to unto you." So after she bit off his finger of course he'd return the favor. It made sense to me, it's kind of surprising that other people were so shocked. I also like the physical connection it gives them.
Keep an eye out for Lucy's finger in the future. It's a metaphor of the toughness required to survive. Lucy is forced to lose some innocence and replace it with Wastelend toughness. The Ghoul loses some cynicism in the face of Lucy's mercy towards him.
I don’t know if I’d say that about The Ghoul. He doesn’t seem to lose his evil edge in succeeding episodes. I think he has gained a grudging respect for her, though. I don’t want to spoil anything, but he shows great joy in killing whether or not it’s necessary for his survival or to move forward with his plans. He just likes killing, whether he has justification or has to invent a justification. “For the love of the game.” Maybe there’s a point where he redeems himself, but I didn’t see it.
@@MarcosElMalo2 He definitely doesn't redeem himself, just like Lucy doesn't become a merciless killer. It's more like each planted a small kernal of change, and I assume in Season 2 we'll see more of the back amd forth, as each changes the other.

That’s a really good detail. Thanks for that. It’s the pre-apocalyptic beginning of the erosion of his decency and the first steps towards the fall of his moral character. I had understood that much. But you brought it around full circle with that detail. That’s good stuff.
