As the ghoul watches his old show, he hears the line 'Feo, Fuerte y Formal', 'Ugly, strong, and proper'. When he was shooting that scene, as Copper Howard, years ago he played a character who was 'Stong and Proper'. A skilled sheriff who stood for law and order. He was shooting someone who was only two out of three. 'Strong and Ugly'. But now as the Ghoul watches his show, he realizes how much he's changed over the years. Now he's just two out of three - Strong and Ugly.

The water the ghoul is drinking is definitely irradiated. We saw him refill his flask from a puddle that Lucy drank from and the Geiger counter was going crazy. But that doesn't necessarily exclude him being terrible to her either.
The Props team made Actual "working" pip-boys for the cast so they were actually viewing all the images and stats and such we see displayed on a screen exactly as we see it. Nice touch.
One of my favorite episodes after one that you haven't watched yet. Lucy loses her blood innocence and has become a little jaded with the reality of her situation. The Ghoul has some soul searching to do after he watched his movie at the end. He's become the very thing he despises. He lost his dignity.

Rewatching this amazing show with you has been awesome. I really appreciate hearing your point of view because you're an actual fan of the Fallout series. 🤙
I think the more I watch reactors the more I think pop culture morals are really misaligned. The writers of most of these shows are really testing moral standards. There is a writing trick that the creators are doing with Maximus and Lucy but also to some extent with the ghoul and i think most people don't see it because pop culture entertainment has really setup our moral reasoning to be way too simple. It will be fun to watch what this reactor picks up on by the last episode. This series is a surprising writers masterpiece.

Just a heads up: I like the song by itself but your outro music is SO MUCH louder than the rest of the video. Just maybe... level that a little alright?
Maximus is my least favorite too. They seem to be settings up his character for future seasons. If so I'm sure I'll appreciate the nuance of seeing him just starting out, but for now its slow.
I'd be curious to hear why you think so, rather than just stating it. Most of the reasons I've heard from people tend be because they've made assumptions about the character and then proceeded to judge based on their own assumptions.
Maximus is difficult to pin down. Since there is little to no exposition, one has to learn mostly by observation. And so little of what has been shown of his story has hinted at his background. So here's my take, based on what i have observed and a little conjecture. First, Maximus' mental and emotional growth has been stunted by having been taken by that nightmare cult at such a young age. As such, he's still trying to figure himself out, just as we are. Next, he has conflicting ideals that make decision-making difficult. His harsh upbringing with the Brotherhood has taught that life is cruel and the only person you can count on is yourself. Every man for himself. At the same time, an early formative experience that we are shown repeatedly has planted a romantic notion of heroism and honor. So, as he ventures into the world, he's trying on motivations to figure out who he is. Sometimes he tries to be hard and ruthless, sometimes he tries to be honorable and chivalrous. But since internal age puts him at n00b, he's not very good at either. His character growth is starting from scratch, which is why he's hard to pin down. He's still cooking. Please feel free to include your take below, correct any errors I may have made, or call me a silly fool if you think I'm way off (but if you don't present a sound alternative, I may blow you a raspberry. 😉)
Morally, Maximus is deliberately positioned halfway between Lucy and The Ghoul. Lucy is untainted goodness, The Ghoul is former goodness (almost) totally eroded by the things you need to do to survive in the Wasteland. Maximus is the desire for goodness, counterbalanced by a desire to survive. I think that's part of why some people think he's boring - it's because he's not clearly one thing or the other, and a lot of people consider that to be 'bland'.
He’s also very much supposed to embody what the Brotherhood is within the Fallout universe: a faction of self-righteous zealots who larp as chivalrous heroes but end up just being self-important, bigoted, and violent pieces of shit who will proudly massacre anyone outside their chosen in-group in the name of their dogma. Maximus is like any of the others in lacking the self-awareness to recognize this, but his arc here seems to be a test of his capacity to begin overcoming it. To be clear, all three of the leads have great arcs thus far, but I personally thought his arc was the most interesting because it kept subverting what I expected. I think you’re right @Scyth0r that it made people uncomfortable and turned some folks off, but honestly I want characters to make me feel things like that. Frankly, his arc *should* be frustrating, because his own journey as a Brotherhood member is a life of unacknowledged contradictions.
@@courtneyvaldez7903 And the West Coast Brotherhood is a full-on religious cult in its methodology. The East Coast has a more militaristic mindset. Maximus isnt bad. He and Lucy are both just very naive, each in their own way. But Lucy's naivete is actually worse. If there's a good, youre picking the wrong person, but watch and see.
The thing with the vials that the ghoul(s) need to take to keep from going feral is something new that this series has added. the anti feral drug or a variant of is in the games now. the reason of course it was never noticed is well ghoul needs aren't really cared about by regular humans hence they wouldn't know about and if the drug production was in Calif it would become incredibly super rare after the fall of Shady Sands. This means ghouls outside of Calif would likely not know about it.
