    How does float height affect the mixture? I thought the jets and adjustment screws control that. I had always assumed the float height is just about keeping the chamber filled so the jets are submerged during rocking of the bike.

    Hey friend, I have a VM 22 clone carburetor on my sons mini bike. The brass tube on the inside of the bowl that makes it drip if it’s too high, that brass tube is level with the gasket. I set my float so it is 25 mm below the little brass tube, so when I check The gas level with the tube it sits 25 mm below the seem or the gasket , I hope that is correct. It calls for 25 mm. Please let me know thank you

    Love your vids brother. I took the carbs off of this v twin. I made sure diaphragms, jets, gaskets, needles, and all were good. Put them back on and still dies upon throttle. After checking everything numerous times, and replaced all lines, it still dies upon throttle but only revs up if I spray the carbs. Could a float out of adjustment cause bike to die upon throttle but still idle? Only revs if I spray the carbs. Any help appreciated. Thanks for the vids.

    • @3000ryu
      @3000ryu Рік тому +1

      My guess is it could. If the float is set too low it's not getting enough gas in the bowl to handle throttle but could handle idle. My problem on my KLR I'm thinking is the it's set too high and it floods the carb which makes gas go out the overflow.

  • @thebeddoctor4273

    • @wmcdonald9081
      @wmcdonald9081 2 місяці тому

      It could, but it is more likely that your needle and seat are damaged and leaking and instead of going through the overflow the gas might be going into the cylinders and draining through the rings into the crankcase.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  3 роки тому +3

      It can, but it's more likely to have something else going wrong. Make sure the you have good compression and spark and the right spark plug. As long as those are good, verify the float height is correct, then work on your jetting. (make sure the air filter is clean and in good condition.) -Charles

      All you need is a length of Tygon tubing you can see through. Place it on bowl drain nipple, hold hose up beside fuel bowl, open drain screw, the fuel level in the hose will be the same as level in bowl. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the hose. You can move the hose up and down, does not matter, level remains the same. Simple physics. I like my fuel level just at or under where the bowl meets the carb housing. You dont need any fancy tools or gauges. You do have to have a fuel bottle that you can hang up above the carb. I clamp my carbs in a table vise. This way you can leave carb sitting with fuel loaded against the float needle all day to check for leaks and test the float needle to see that its holding and not seeping fuel, flooding. I do carbs almost daily for years, this is the best way and easiest to bench test float level. The more fuel you have in your test bottle the better.
