    Gustav Klimt biography: This video covers the life of famous artist Gustav Klimt from his beginnings in Baumgarten in Austria to his worldwide success. He was prodigiously talented even from a young age, as was his brother Ernst, who he would set up an artist's company with. Gustav The famous Austrian artist Gustav Klimt was the first president of the Viennese Secession, but his life was not without controversy, the University paintings being a good example. Klimt is best known for his portraits which are painted in a very decorative style often using gold leaf combining geometric decoration with realistic depictions of hands and faces. His most famous painting probably being The Kiss, completed in 1908. His relationship with the fashion designer Emilie Flöge is covered as his Beethoven Frieze. His controversial paintings, Philosophy, Medicine, and Jurisprudence which he completed for Vienna University are also discussed. Klimt died in Vienna in 1918 just 55 years old.
    The video had been created for those wishing to learn the basics of art history.

      I would like to see some of your work! I'm a bankrupt painter from Austria, born in Vienna, studied under Hundertwasser, but Corona destroyed me and my family, my Italian artdealer died with whom I had an exclusive contract, so we are completely out of money, a dark future ahead of us...

    For me, Klimt is still one of the most exiting painters of the last 200 years. His breadth of styles, his inventiveness and his accessibility were spectacular. I doubt if anyone who has seen 'Judith' has ever forgotten it, and not gone on to explore more of his work. The perennial question should be: "What do artists, other than Klimt, do all day?"

    • @ArtHistorySchool

    Fascinating artist and life and one of my favorite artists from the Art Nouveau period. and Secession movement in Vienna! He could have been a fashion illustrator like I was in NYC before retiring and having my own art business. Now I paint fairly big paintings as well as small ones in acrylic and am amazed that some of the elements in his paintings have inadvertantly made their way into my paintings, minus the jewels though I've used gold plated paint. Read that he had many affairs and illegitimate children as well. Fellow cat lover like myself and the quintessential artist back in the day! Thanks for sharing , love looking at all the details of his great work and wonderful portraits which I've done as well. In my teens I studied with a portrait teacher from the Yale School of Art and he was wonderful. We'd do art work on the deck of his ultra modern home in the woods on summer days in our bare feet! Still love to paint in the summer in my bare feet as well outdoors on my deck, too.Like your vest, too, nice~

      @@ArtHistorySchool Yes, in the states here we call that a vest. I also love to wear vests and have a few of them myself. Never got to beautiful Vienna but my oldest daughter did while she took a river boat excursion down the "Blue Danube"! Would have loved to visited there and Beethoven and Schubert's graves along with Brahms. Vienna the city of great music/composers and desserts mit schlag! Got to other European countries, so that may be on my bucket list! So many great historic sites to see and visit. I'm not like some Americans in the Bible Belt and down south. This Yankee New Englander with family history here since the 1600s/1700s, has my head and heart in Europe most of the time since my forebears were from the U.K. Scotland/Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Holland! Deep roots all the way back to the Vikings on my maternal side per my DNA test from Ancestry.com. and per a geneologist who did our family history in 1940. Found more fascinating facts on the internet as well which connects us all in more ways than one, small world.

      Her wealthy husband had enough money to have his beautiful wife painted more than once.
      They could not have kids. Adele was a collector of fine arts and she helped her favourite artists to survive by buying their paintings. She held salons and was very educated and cultivated.

    Thank you for this biography of Gustav Klimt, especially when he lived as much as what he created. I've always admired his work, but knew very little about the man. Definitely ahead of his time, it's no wonder that he is more admired now than ever before. So influential, his sense of color and balance draw the viewer into his composition. It's obvious how much he loved his subjects. The results prove it ! I applaud his good taste !

    Gustav Klimt had a gift of combining an explosive color treatment with the subdue reflection of a woman as if she were projected from a mirror. The colorful and drastic attire would consume the subject as if the face were a second thought to the painting itself. My favorite 9:45 Adele Bloch-Bauer 1907. His work has a signature style recognizable upon first glimpse and awe inspiring to the very core of your being.

      He certainly knew women and they certainly knew him. There is definitely a frisson at play in many of his paintings.

    • @ArtHistorySchool
      @ArtHistorySchool  3 роки тому

      It was mostly wealthy women who had their portraits painted by Klimt and his reputation was well known. Yet they seemingly became involved with him, probably because they were bored with their lives in the elitist, conservative society in which they lived. Klimt was definitely not a saint, but remember it takes two to tango! You make many assumptions about him, and I have no wish to defend him, but life is not as black and white as you would like to make out.
