I saw an exhibit of most of Kandinsky's work at the Atlanta Art Museum way back in the early 80's. What amazed me was the pre-painting blueprints of all his works. Every line drawn out like an architect. His paintings were not " free form " in any way. Every line, circle, shape and color were all pre-chosen and carefully laid out. Just like his clothing. The exhibit was most enlightening. I felt very honored and especially blessed to have been able to see his inner workings of the man I admired so much.
Sounds like a great exhibition.
If you want a deeper insight then the letters between him and Miro are worth reading
One of my favorite painters...I paint...I’m 72 and I look at his work frequently for inspiration..your presentation was informing and added to my appreciation for him...thank you
Glad you enjoyed the video, good luck with the painting.
Bit old init
@@user-zw8io8ru4v I’m 60. Bit old init. How old are you? 12? I’m grateful for every single day. My son died recently, he was 37.
My heart broke at hearing he died in obscurity ☹️ But I love how much he contributed to the art world and how admired he is today, thank you for teaching us about his life! I knew nothing of it! Also I love how he got dressed up to paint. Maybe every time he painted was a big event for him?
He was a very interesting character. I'm glad you liked the video. Cheers
Dear Ana: Don't feel so sorry for him. It sounds like he was a "trust fund baby" who never really needed to work for a living, so he was hardly a "starving artist". The fact that he even wore suits while he painted showed how he flaunted his affluence. I love Kandinsky's work too, but it sounds like painting is what he did while he wasn't spending his inheritance.
I went to the Guggenheim in NYC and saw his exhibition there and I was speechless. I have never felt so connected with any other artist or paintings. His work just spoke to me. I'm a science guy but I go to art to relax. It was the best experience I've had in a museum. The way the exhibit was set up to match the Guggenheim architecture was the cherry on the top.
Yes, Kandinsky is very special. One day I'll get to the Guggenheim. Cheers
I can gaze at a Kandinsky painting for hours. His work was brilliant.
I was in the Pompidou Centre in Paris yesterday in a room full of Kandinsky's. They are even better in the flesh.
Fact number 20 he was tortured by the nazis and was so pettrified he came back as a bully called buzzy.
Kandinsky is my favorite artist.
I have several prints of his paintings in my home.
It’s a dream of mine to see one in person.
Absolutely
Absolutely! 💖
Actually, Kandinsky was amazed with the fact that you can read a music partiture and play it anywhere in the world, as opposed to languages. He synthetized this concept with the idea that white and black dots can transmit feelings and emotions. This was the drive that made him experiment with his art and gradually move away from established forms, to an abstract medium to transmit feelings and emotions. Just for that, he was one of the most underrated genius of the last century. Picasso concerning shape, Matisse concerning color and Kandinsky concerning the concept.
That is a very interesting comment. He was very much a genius.
@@ArtHistorySchool These concepts are in his books, Concerning the Spiritual in Art and Point and Plane to Plane. There is a great book in Spanish called Retrospective View which contains some of his letters to Gabrielle and fragments of other books which clearly picture -No pun intented- his thinking.
Kandisky is my favorite artist. I have several of his prints hanging on my walls.
That's great.
My TOP 3 most favorite painter of all time.
The pure definition of controlled chaos.
Yes, he is brilliant, who is your favourite painter?
Brilliant video, I learned a lot. Thank you very much for another fantastic lesson. And your suit looks great, very dapper, Kandinsky would give you a big thumbs up too for sure!
Thanks again!
Thank You (excellent video). As long as lovers of modern art exist, they will appreciate and revere the genius (and joy) of Wassily Kandinsky!!!
I think you are right, he was something special.

One of my favorite artists!
Mine too
That’s why I listen to music as I paint. Thank you Paul.
You are welcome
Thanks buddy. I had wondered why looking at Kandinskys felt similar to listening to music.
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers
Gabriell munter is one of my favorite artists. I was amazed at how fresh the colors of her paintings are and seeing them in person was best.
She was a great artist and very under rated.
Artist in School I briefly worked as an exhibit tech a long while ago at the Milwaukee museum of art and they had a few of her pieces. My favorite was a painting on glass that she did.
Thanks for these great videos.
Always a pleasure to hear about all topics from u here, enjoying every moment of it

Hi Paul, I wish you well in your new venture. I am relatively new to art, I decided to learn to draw because I needed a couple of new hobbies as I am getting more house bound. I love your art tutorials because you have such passion. My favourite artist is Monet and I don't get abstract art at all but it is interesting all the same to learn about different artists so shall look forward to all your tutorials.
Well, thank you for watching my tutorials, I do enjoy making them and it's nice to get feedback. Paul
Also enjoy Monet and the Impressionists.
Deeply appreciated. Thank you. Serenity.
Thank you
I love how you bring the human factors of the artist to the forefront and I get to "know" them and the art they created. Thanks!
Really pleased you like the way I create my videos. Much appreciated. Cheers
Thank you. I wish I had explained this theme to my fellow classmates as clear as you did.
Perhaps you should show them the video next time. Cheers Paul
He certainly is important. Though he died in obscurity, his paintings are instantly recognized and saleable.
Very True
Nicely told. Thanks.
You're welcome
The photographs of figures abstracted into line drawings were revelatory!
The Bauhaus must have been a great place to experience
Abstract master 🖤🖤🖤love his works
Yes, he was great
Love Kandinsky's abstractions but recently have really become enamored with his landscapes - which when viewed provide a sense of Kandinsky's brilliance with color. But even as his work prior to the Blue Ryder period became more abstract, show Kandinsky's superb drawing ability. In one of several books I own of Kandinsky, he recounts how one day coming home to his studio saw one of his paintings through the window lit differently than he was used to viewing it, inspired him to create the more abstract paintings he would become famous for.
You are very right, he was an immense artist, much under-rated.
What a wonderful presentation of a great artist and his life.
Many thanks
I’m greatly surprised by how much I enjoyed & appreciated this video!

Truly amazing connectivity between music and painting. I love music but have not much knowledge of paintings still liked it.
Interesting concept painting music, as it is means painting the visual equivalent of something that is experienced but not seen.
Facinating video. Very enjoyable.

thankyou for illuminating lesser known facts about Kandinsky; there seems to be a cross linkage between his work and the fauvists who just preceded him in Paris. But Kandinsky took it as you say to the next level of the abstract across music and spirituality, with colour. i wonder what a teacher like Goethe's response would be.
I'm sure he would have appreciated his work.
I love this clip it will be Perect for the kids at school. thank you
That's great, I hope your kids enjoy it too. Cheers Paul
Thank you very much. You really are a good teacher!
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Cheers Paul
This is a very tough lesson. You can be that thorough, understanding, interested, committed and dedicated and prolific and f**ing profound, subject to the fates and the furies and you die in obscurity only for everyone else to catch up later. The super tasteful French took us Brancusi but remained blind to Kandinsky. Your excellent presentation was brilliant and I learned something. I always thought or imagined that he had been a runaway success during his lifetime, but then to be labelled "degenerate" is a certain level of recognition and that period of art in Germany was really pushing the envelope. Did he work on colour theory alongside or with Paul Klee or were they thinking about it separately?
They worked together at the Bauhaus before the Nazis shut it down in 1933.
Best Art History videos!
Cheers
Love your videos
