Has Pete Hines ever actually said something in a way that sounds like a real human being talking?
Hines is a stain of the human genepool.
I have never heard any person say so many words only for it to end up meaning absolutely nothing. He should run for Congress.
Nope
No he always speaks PRanese
Maybe before he sold his soul to Todd
"BlAcK RaZoR"
Owns the edge
The audio for "Black Razor" and the perfectly timed cut offs were fantastic. lmao
can also be a fun drinking game
I just imagine somewhere in a parallel timeline, Matt is the frontman for a band and that audio is a prominent part of his vocals. I also imagine its his music and likeness that ends up in a fighting game and its that rapper Blessed that gets shocked discovering this.
So here's a fun story.
One of my University Lecturers was a designer for this, and by all accounts he did not have a good time working on it.
He would often poke fun at the game (and Shellshock 2, perhaps another Wha Happun? suggestion?) during Lectures and presentations, describing it as 'fucking dreadful'. He left halfway through my first year so I don't recall if he ever went into significant detail about the production process, but based on this video it seems that everything was very hectic and mismanaged.
Oh man, Shellshock 2 would be a great Wha Happun because that game is fucking out there. It was so frustrating and disappointing compared to the first one and I have to know why it went the route that it did.
Was he in when it was still called BLaCk RaZoR?

It'd be cool to see a What Happened about Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon. Please and thanks for this video!
With the new Destroy All Humans game coming out soon, it would be cool to see a What Happened video focusing on Path of the Furon.
I guess it would be a matter of their being enough information through articles, writings and other resources to paint a proper picture, but yeah that would be a good one to do. I have fond memories of that game, but it was not good in the least.
Enjoyed it despite the low quality and also the lack of graphics in the last level, was a shame what happened with pandemic :/ Anyone else kinda enjoy it just cause it was another DAH game?
As much as I would also really like to see this video, it looks like the *only* way that Matt will even consider a request is if you're one of his Patreon donors, unfortunately.
This wasn't a game. It was a 2-3 hour promo for the best rapper of all time.
Rebellion kinda also own a majority of the uk comics library going back to the 1950s so they ain't going nowwhere anytime soon
To someone who doesn't really follow it, the British gaming industry feels a bit like reading unabridged histories of superheroes. "Oh, huh, they're still going--wait, they can do that? They've been around since WHEN?"
So I have a couple of insights about this game. I know who one of the writers was, the writer is actually so ashamed of this project he isn't even credited on the IMDB page (you can check, there are no writers listed, only script supervisors.) So the writer I know said that Bethesda was desperate for the Call of Duty money to come in so he was told to write edgelord humour that 12 year olds like which is mostly a lot of swearing, I even asked him how he could mess up a game where the story is already written in the form of a book and he just said "Bethesda" and pushed all of the blame onto them.
This writer by the way is the same writer who killed off Lara Croft by the way because they hated the crunch at Core so when Core dissolved a lot of the staff were taken on by Rebellion and from the stuff I've seen did not progress passed the old methods of making games they were making on the PS1. It may have been quick but we sure as hell can see how unappealing it looks because they kinda refused to learn and adapt with the times.
What's the writers name?
Yeah, sure you do. I know Obama
FunWithFirearms someone knowing a writer for a shit game is a hell of a lot more probable than knowing Obama.
@@DisDatK9 not the point dude
@@CrudeConduct666 Yes it is, noone ever believes anyone knows anyone or does anything on the internet. Like why is knowing a writer so far fetched to you?
Rogue Warrior - What the flying SH!T F%&K Happened?!
The scariest part is, Marcinko is genuinely nuts. Even in the military community the guy is known as being insane. And while yes, swearing is a big part of the culture he was one of those old cowboys. But like a lot of the SEALs, the embellished tales and glorfied exploits became more and more like bullshit as real combat footage came to light. People no longer buy the bluster anymore. The heroic badass stuff is just not possible on the level these guys claimed, and the real heros and badass exploits are a lot more simple than guys like Marcinko have made it all out to be. And after seeing some of the shit I saw I'm glad those tales and guys are being called out for their shit. Especially the SEALs, who have even had a whole team disbanded in recent years for their horrible behavior, corruption and failures in the field.
I would love to see a What Happened about Kameo: Elements of Power. I remember hearing it had so many changes in concept and a development cycle that would even make Duke Nukem Forever raise an eyebrow at least a little. Might be worth looking into what Rare was up to during all that time
If you've never seen it, I highly recommend listening to the entire end credits of Rouge Warrior. It really is something special.

I own the game to this day. It's a must play imo. It's just something to experience, like those old b horror movies before they became self aware and winked at the camera.
Rouge warror is one of the most generic looking first person shooters I have ever seen
Call of Duty still manages to do that years later.

@@mathismohr1356 Oooh edgy! MW2019 is the first COD I've bought since Black Ops 1. It is the CoD gameplay loop refined into the best CoD with gunplay and visuals being the best that an arcade-shooter has seen yet. How dare you!? It's not a generic looking first person shooter. It's a "MOTHERFUCKING generic first FUCKING person shooter".
This game is a diamond. I never laughed more. Bugs, constant swearing, knife in a butthole move. I had so much fun. And ending rap. Great!

Oh god, DX is having a laugh somewhere rn
Why am I getting such a Steven seagal vibe from the main character lmfao
Its the hair
The dyed hair/goatee ensemble does it for me
To be extremely fair...... he was the founder of a navy seal team..... the same navy seal team that did kill bin laden......... so there was SOME merit to his stories..... but of course he would also over exaggerate them.....
I love that you had the Rourke Rap from the game end credits as the end credits here too.
The insane amounts of swearing in this game is exactly like book series that it is based off of. I've read two of the books years ago, and the amount of swearing in them was comical. So when the game came out, I was impressed at how true to the source material that aspect was.
Still a crap game, though.
If the game was actually good, it would be funny. It's just not though.
this was baby bethesda days when they were not yet pros in the art of screwing customers, it took them quite a while, but they are now masters of the art
"yo this game was too much about a Navy seal so we made it about Navy seals"
Cue in a team of actual seals coming in, godrays lighting them from behind in a low angle shot to display the sheer awesomeness of Seal Team "Over Powered" (or STOP for short), wearing tactical gear (one of them with Sam Fisher's goggles on its head) looking all badass and swearing in seal speak (so, essentially barking) before we start the mission to dismantle and annihilate the most horrifying institution in the animal world: PETA and it's decrepit dastardly demonic dictator: DOCTOR DOLITTLE...
Damn...
@Vetreas To be fair, PETA is pretty bad.
As a vulgar person, I seriously can't get over how utterly foul-mouthed and mean-spirited the dialogue was. It's like it was written by a bipolar 10-year old with tourettes on a caffeine overdose.
At least games like Bulletstorm and House of the Dead: Overkill made creative use of their vulgarity to an endearing effect; Rogue Warrior just spews a nuclear shitstorm of idiotic one-liners that wouldn't even fit within an 80's action movie -- all straight-faced and without even a hint of irony or self-awareness.
This was Hatred before Hatred was even a thing...except Hatred was just plain mediocre while this was straight-up terrible and unpleasant.
supereldinho And with Bulletstorm being remastered with Duke Nukem being featured in it, it got even more creative.
I mean, even Hatred was smarter with using the controversy to get some decent advertising. Bethesda couldn't even get traction for this pile of trash coming after TES Oblivion, think about that.
@@meggaman7 was that a reference to the Scout Snipers flag controversy or actually a Navy SEAL unit? Redpill me on this because I never heard of it.
Hell I don't even swear this much, its like the character HAS to drop a swear in every single sentence or he'll die or something
ITS A TOTAL GOAT FUCK!
Hey Matt, do you have any more "Gone Too Soon" episodes in the works at the moment? It's been a while since the last one and I've been looking forward to you doing pieces on companies like Pandemic, Visceral, Lionhead, etc.
@Remington Steele Same. I enjoyed the first game :'(
As soon as they dropped the "Black Razor" I knew it was over.
Just came across this video. I know it's 3 years old, but it's missing some info. I was one of the developers of one of the versions. The shorter version of it is: the game as stated in the video went through multiple revisions. What the video doesn't state is that Bethesda and Zombie had lots of problems seeing eye to eye so they hired outsourcing house Streamline Studios (SLS) to create better graphics and help out on level design. At the time SLS had just given Epic a helping hand with additional asset work on Gears of War. Anyway, SLS was producing Level assets for Unreal Engine, and came up with a method to give stuff additional detail - so assets were being built using a combination of 2 different textures, the "standard" diffuse tex and a "details" tex, and actually looked good. Long story short, when Bethesda pulled the game from Zombie's hands and gave it to Rebellion, not only did they drop Unreal Engine, they completely FUBAR'ed the assets pipeline and used them in-game without the 2nd complementary textures... which is in part why the game looks like crap.
I remember playing this trash with my friends, we decided to drink every time the main character swears....god we got wasted didnt we :D
Oh man that's brutal
I remember picking this game up for like $3 with my buddy when we would go to the GameStop and just grab a whole bunch of really shitty games based entirely on the artwork and drop like 20 bucks each time....
on the way back, we picked up a case of Pabst and we played through the entire game on a projector, laughing our ass off the whole time and it is still one of both of our favorite video games ever because it is so terrible but so goddamn hilarious
You know, even though it's a terrible game, I'm so glad it got made. It's so god damn ridiculous and doesn't last long anyway, so it can be a blast to play with a friend over.
The only thing I remember of this game was it's review from X-Play.
You know, language aside, Rouge Warrior's ending theme probably sounds smooth to cruise to on the highway...
Rouge is the color of Baby Todd Howard's cheeks.
Ah yes, this was an interesting game to work on.
Any stories from the development? In what capacity did you work on it? Did you feel that it was doomed during the making of it?
@@dvt1393 I came on about the same time the sound guys put together the ending credits. It was a strange project to work. I mostly was testing for certification onto the various platforms for it. One of my friends even got some pics with Dick Marcinko when he was in the office, and after taking the photo he saw DIck had snuck a knife up near my friend's neck all while smiling for the camera as if it was nothing.
This series is one of my top ten favorites on UA-cam. It never disappoints.
An FPS title "Rogue warrior: black razor" published by Bethesda perfectly sums up that entire era.

Was that Cyriak? Jesus, I haven't seen any of his stuff for ages.
Yeah it's a weird inclusion. Also uncredited the fuck?
Ah Bethesda. Truly they have become the Orkiest publisher in the industry, just ask Mek Boy Tod Howard!
I literally have no recollection of this game even existing. And looking at it, I can see why.
Rebellion, the company that developed a game called Rogue Trooper, and then 3 years later one called Rogue Warrior.
Ironically neither of which they picked the name for. Rogue Trooper is based on a comic strip of the same name from 2000 AD. They picked it because it was a property they owned that was ripe for adaptation, along with Judge Dredd. They didn't create RT but they do own it: they bought up 2000 AD in the early 2000s and continue to publish it to this day. Unsurprisingly, I have a subscription, hehe.
You know, for how rough Rebellion's career has been it's a minor miracle they put out a game as good as Sniper Elite 4
That picture of the games that came out in November '09 had me feeling some heavy heavy nostalgia. MW2 was so so good and I have some really distinct memories from AC2
@@SuperNuclearUnicorn Should be the opposite really.I mean the more games yoou put out then chances are atleast a couple of them will be hits. Rebellion has had more than a few good games though in my opinion.
The original Rainbow Six, the AvP Games, the Sniper Elite series, Rogue Trooper was a great game, The Simpsons game was good, plus a few others i'm sure.
So Seal Team 6 was founded by General Zod. Neat.

RIP our great hero with slovak heritage.
I'm okay with these B/C tier games. The industry needs more of it. Of course they should be appropriately priced.
Might and Magic 9 is an old-school disaster that would be interesting to know more about. It ended up right in the death throes of the first person dungeon crawler sub-genre and...well, I'm surprised Might and Magic lived on as a franchise despite it.
I wouldn't apply that Bethesda lube on me, I'm scared of becoming glitchy and broken!
This looks like the video game equivalent of a Steven Segal movie.
The ending outro was so smooth I was really groovin lol
I want to know if there's a full version of that song...
@@czarkusa2018
The best part is that is literally the song that plays over the credits when you finish the game. it is so completely out of place but hilarious that they just did some fucking jam and dumped a whole bunch of Mickey Rourke's voice lines over it and called it good.

Bethesda: BLACK RAZOR!!!!
Literally Everyone: ok? But why?
An episode on Deus Ex: Invisible War would be great
Would it? The game was at Ion Storm the entire time, Harvey Smith was the director through the entire project, and the game had great reviews. It was a victim of needing to trim down for consoles more than any kind of blunders. You can't even make fun of the stiff voice acting because ridiculous voice acting is now by far one of the most beloved parts of the original Deus Ex.

The legendary playthrough by the best team ever assembled under the Machinima brand. I salute thee, Inside Gaming!
Haha, I was totally thinking about when Funhaus played this so I appreciated the cameo of their footage.
I met him in person. At a book signing in the late 90's. My dad liked his books and took me along. As this was like 23-ish years ago, I don't have a super clear memory of everything, but I do remember the guy was an asshole and was also like barely 5'. So yeah, he may look huge, but it's not quite as impressive when you tower at least a foot above him. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm sure the guy could kill me in 1000 different ways, and judging from his personality, probably would just for the hell of it, but unless you're very short or a child, he doesn't exactly have the physical presence that the pics suggest. He mostly looks like a short guy who works out all the time to compensate.
And to be fair, I know that smaller people typically do better with SEAL qualifying and performance, so it's not really shocking that he isn't some towering muscle giant. But the video played up his physicality and even made mention of "if you ever meet him" which, like, I just had to point out that he's not that impressive. And again, I'm aware that's fairly normal for people in his very specific line of work. Just, if you DO ever meet him, be prepared for a guy who's about exactly as tall as his shoulders are wide. Like, identical proportions
Pete "Swamp Ass" Hines got me rolling, lol
The "Yeah that makes sense" gets me every fucking time
Also; fuck yeah The Wrestler. Good film that, and decent description of how to direct ol' Mikey-R haha. You would've done wonders with that second Iron-Man movie haha.
Rogue Warrior is the game I do not remember much of it, but the information looks fascinating, btw, I still waiting for What Happun on Crackdown 3 soon
There's 1 game from a big series that I've been really really curious about since I've heard about it, which is Need For Speed Rivals and it's development. Not only cuz it's one of those "1 year release" games that had a rushed development time, but also cuz they had to develop it, while at the same time build up their new studio, Ghost Games.
Like I still don't understand why EA let Ghost Games develop it while they're building up their studio, instead of Criterion who already made 2 Need For Speed games before Rivals.
