Can I just say, as someone who played this game late due to family and work just being too busy, your videos helped me out tremendously. Also, not giving spoilers away is extremely hard to find. Thanks a lot.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear you've found my content helpful 😁 I definitely know what it's like to have limited time to play, so I'm glad to hear my videos have helped you out!
Late to the party as well on GoW:R and I find this video very helpful. I don't really mind progressing slow on the story or game itself as long as I can fight in style lol
Dude. As a guy in my thirties who worked on heavy trucks for a number of years now, take some time to yourself and don’t dedicate the life to the job, company loyalty is dead, besides I’m sure the kids would love to see kratos die over and over again lol.
The hex state doesn't just make it easier to apply element effects and create explosions, it can also boost an element, like with frost, normally enemies are just slowed, but after you hex them, they will have the same effect as if you threw the axe at them, they won't be able to move. Also, it is really useful, for damaging bosses, who are already in an elemental state, because after each hex explosion the enemy is cleared from the hex effect, so you can immediately star building it up again. If you focus on hex build-up with your companion you can just send a barrage of arrows at them, creating multiple explosions
@@bigboibebop No, I haven't done any testing, just what I could see while playing. And it's pretty difficult to spot the difference with burn damage without proper testing. But I also wander if hex boosts other elements
Yes, true. Hex is by far the best against einherjar due to taking 2 instead of 3 to 4. There is a lot to cover with einherjar in general, so I won’t go too deep into it lol.
These videos are a GOLD mine of information. THANK YOU for compiling all this info into videos man. Love to see the community work together to make these games even more fun.
It is also worth it to use the rond of purification to throw the status effect on you onto your enemies and that includes bifrost. It was my favorite because you don’t always need to be hit by bifrost to have it cling to you so it is easier to get rid of than waiting
Dude... I've platinumed, 100% the game on normal difficulty and am now half-way through my GMGOW playthrough.... And just like the advanced combat video this is overflowing with mechanics I don't use nearly enough or at all. Great shit as always, this deserves way more likes than it has.
I platinumed first in normal mode then yesterday got platinumed in GMGOW, still doesn't knew this element stuff, never froze enemy with axe R2 nor used flame or anything. I didn't even know how to use parry with shield, entire game in GMGOW used shield which blocks yellow ring attacks. Don't know if i m fool or feel proud to platinumed in both modes. Maybe will try in new game +.
Edit: I just tested applying Sonic and Hex on the same target in a Loki’s perspective part, it seems like they stack with each other. A few things that I have noticed (and you didn't mention in the video): Frozen and Burned effects are mutually exclusive (both can be built up at the same time or while the other is in full effect, but triggering one effect will expire the other full effect). I have also noticed that Vaporizing Frost and Extinguish Flame apply the opposite status rather quickly, so it's easier to juggle these two statuses back and forth fore more damage. Poison and Shock are their own categories and seem to not be affected by any effect other than Hex (though I have not tried to apply Shock and Poison at the same time). The Boon of Wrath enchantment and Rond of Affliction shield attachment will wipe the full statuses and trigger explosion (including shock, poison, hex and sonic, though I'm not sure if the explosion will deal more damage if there are multiple full effect being active on the target). There are ways to cleanse yourself of affliction statuses (roll with Elemental Evasion enchantment or trigger Rage) or transfer the effects onto your target (Rond of Purification). Stun builds up more slowly on enemies that have been stunned before, which is significant for boss fights. Most bosses just take a chunk of damage whenever the stun meter is full, but some can be stun-grabbed (like Fiske, the Einherjar you encounter in Vanaheim), but when this is the case the boss will be immune to stun after being grabbed.
[Vaporize Frost] and [Extinguish Flames] Is actually nuts. It makes the game MUCH EASIER. Also each mob has a specific weakness to either Burn or Frost to trigger first, this particular weakness makes dealing with multiple of the Same enemy type much easier. After you get the Hex arrows is basically a garantee Win to every fight. That being said: Lunda set is just too good :v
What do you mean by "much easier?" Which difficulty are you referring to? I find Normal pretty easy but then No Mercy can be too hard. No balance at all.
Hey bro, thanks for all the effort you put into this. Really appreciate your well articulated, on point explanations without wasting the viewers time. Helped me a lot. Cheers.
On the frost effects uses: Not only does it slow down their movement, like how fast the move and attack, it slows down every aspect of them. If you freeze an enemy and launch them into the air or knocking them down they're basically unable to do anything for like 7 seconds. Meaning you can do some longer combos for extra damage (combining it with vaporized frost is deadly) or launching an opponent so u can deal with another.
Thanks for the guide! I really love the elemental mechanics especially frost, burn, and hex. It rewards you for not taking damage and give you a very powerful extinguish or vaporize for the burned or frozen enemies
Good video, great for beginners but I think you should have went into enemy elemental weaknesses far more, a good example is sonic. Most enemy’s take like 4 sonic arrows to get soniced, BUT grind are far less resident to it, they take 2 to 3 which on paper doesn’t sound too much, it becomes game changing since you can sent them backwards with blades aim R2 and into CG(combat grapple) into the hood attack due to it coming faster from that attack(and others) and it DESTROYS them due to them being far weaker to stun compared to most other enemy’s. This isn’t even the full extend of how much depth there is to it, but I don’t think you want to go that deep but point is it’s a fantastic tool. Ask me more questions about it if you want.
It was helpful to know that I could hit them with the shield to activate the bifrost ! I’ve beaten the. Game and started over and going through the game again , so great video , very helpful
There’s an amulet set that boosts damage against status afflicted enemies. I want to know every way hex effects elemental damage. Speaking from experience, hex disappears quite quickly when trying to apply status afflictions. The sigil punishment charm doesn’t get much use because the status bar gets deleted as soon as another one appears.
My favorite combo is hex, axe frost awaken, hold r1 to get them frosted if not currently frosted, spam sonic, blades triangle R2, sprint hold r1, l1 triangle, and unload. It's the best for boss mobs on gmgow muspelheim challenges. Do not underestimate the power of always having L1 triangle up.
Nice! I'm not sure if I've been utilizing that particular chain of attacks or not. I'll have to give it a try in the Niflheim arena to see what it's like.

I definitely hated Hex until I realized it causes the explosions when the status builds lol have a lot of fun with it now and only use sonic when I am doing stun builds.
you did forget to mention that you actually get a sheild rond of purification where you can return status applied to you back to an enemy so thats another way getting hit with bifrost is a good thing because you can shield bash and transfer it off yourself. its never good to get hit but if you must its great to expire those status on you asap and turn it around on them.
You can use Wrath move (L3 + R3) with any one of your weapon to instantly apply frost or burn element in an AOE around you. It'll apply the element with a single move even on GMGOW difficulty.
Good tip! Another tip for wulvers, if you attack them outside of attack animation and before they transform with the blades traingle slam, it will always launch allowing for ring outs aka insta kills. You can also cancel their transformation with runic attacks(not regular staggers like axe frost bite sadly I think). If there is no ringout spot, you can use a infinite with BoC with OH(Orion harpoon aka aim r1).
Damn.. I've almost 100% completed this game and I didn't know half the things you mentioned in this video!! Thank you so much for this, I'm sure it'll help me with the remaining enemies in the game. Any tips for the Berserker in Niflheim? He's the only one I have to beat before I can fight the Berserker King. The bifrost attacks are destroying me! :((
Thanks! Glad you were able to pick up some tips here 😄 Yeah the Niflheim Berserker can be tough. If you're having trouble avoiding the Bifrost, putting the Rond of Purification on your shield can be a good way to clear it. I show where to get it in my mid-game build guide.
@@ArktixOfficial I have been using it! My problem with bifrost enemies is that they tend to teleport out of range just as my attack is about to land.. I guess I just need to get better at playing, lol. Your videos are a great help in that regard!

Thank you! And yes, the giveaway is complete. I have reached out to all the winners via email. I won't be announcing who exactly won because I don't want to create a situation where people are being contacted and harassed. Not that I think you would do that, but some people might.
I have a question, do the extinguish flames and vaporize frost skills ONLY apply to melee attacks of the axe and the blades? It says melee attacks; so are range, triangle attacks, L1 + triangle and runic attacks excluded and they the exact same damage regardless of the state the enemy is in? Or do any of those also counts as melee and do bonus damage?
In this video we see what your mods tokens are for every skill. Is that your go to mod load out, and if not, what is your suggested load out. I know that you should adjust them for certain fights, but what is your suggestion? Also the set vanheim enchantment bonus says you do more damage to status enemies. I didn't notice the increase when the only status was not hex/sonic. I don't know if that is true, because I wasn't doing extensive testing, but am curious on if that 3 piece set works with arrow status
Good question. I say that's pretty close to my optimal skill tokens, but I didn't quite have everything unlocked when I recorded these clips and I've probably changed a few of them. What's show would be a great place to start though. I've tested the Vanaheim set with all statuses and it does appear to work with all of them, but I'll double check again...
Here’s a third comment for your troubles. I’ve already 100%’d and platinumed ragnarok, so now I going for true 100% - all ratatasks, favours, upgrades, e v e r y t h i n g. This video is going to be invaluable.
Real pity we don't have the old Light Arrows and Shock Arrows from 2018. Those were way more OP. With Light Arrows dealing Stun and Weaken on the enemies, and the Shock chaining to multiple enemies to immobilise them.
I brute forced the game with gmgow and now that i have berserker king and gna left to fight i really need to go to train lol. I struggled so hard in many berserkers and other encounters...
You mentioned how limited your options of applying bifrost are with no mention of freya's second sword summon that applies bi Frost as well as the relic that can apply bi frost to 3 separate targets.
I hust started playing got the blades of chaos when i equip them an it shows they equipped an return to battle it keeps me on my axe I try to push triangle but it not changing to blades
@@ArktixOfficial One more thing; have you been able to figure out what the Rond of Obliteration's special attack does? Because it doesn't do anything special that I can see. Edit: Never mind. I found out it applies Bifrost to the enemy.
Good question. No, Freya's poison will stack with yours to help build up to the poison state faster, but you can't have a stronger poison state. The poison state always lowers enemy power levels by 1.
Please tell me, near the end of the video I see both your axe and spear appear to have 2 bars in the bottom left where you can press L1 triangle, but then your blades only has 1 bar. Can you explain this?
Ah yeah. Good question. Those were a bit confusing to me as well at first. So those actually don't have anything to do with the axe, blades, or spear. They're an indicator for the charge level on your shield. Not all shields have them, but in this case they were showing up in those clips because I had the Shatter Star shield equipped. The bars indicate how charged the Shatter Star is.
@@ArktixOfficial do you really think the shatter star is better than the other Shields? Especially with the one that can block yellow attacks and the other one with Stun perk? The shatter star doesn't provide any perk really does it?
There's a shield that when Kratos is status afflicted, it will transfer that element to the enemy by performing a shield thrust ( double tapping shield button to attack with shield ) and removes the element from kratos

Extra stun. There is more to it, ask me if you want.
Excellent, thank you
You're very welcome! I hope it was helpful!
Brilliant video ArkTix
Thank you!
Pretty sure around the same.
I have no choice but to subscribe to your channel. Awesome content and tips!
Haha awesome! Welcome 😄 Hope you find the tips helpful!
Nice! Hope you find the tips helpful!
Real pity we don't have the old Light Arrows and Shock Arrows from 2018. Those were way more OP. With Light Arrows dealing Stun and Weaken on the enemies, and the Shock chaining to multiple enemies to immobilise them.
Ah yeah. I kept waiting for those to get unlocked, but nope =/
Great video !
Thanks!
HOLY SHIT, I’ve put close to 100 hours into this and I never noticed the circle icon next to your health bar fills up for immolation and permafrost!
Haha yeah they don't really explain it at any point very clearly. Glad you could pick up a tip on that!
Yes, good point. One of Freya's swords can apply Bifrost. I did mention the Glaive of Dodher reclic though.
@@ArktixOfficial my fault then I missed that
No worries 🙂
Could you explain the Maelstrom effect for the Draupnir Spear?
The maelstrom skill? Basically, it increases the damage the spear does as you continue to get hits without taking damage yourself.
@@ArktixOfficial Oh, okay. I thought it might increase the damage from status effects. I guess that only applies to the "Attuned Elements" Hind.
Oh yes that would just be the Attuned Elements hind.
I hust started playing got the blades of chaos when i equip them an it shows they equipped an return to battle it keeps me on my axe I try to push triangle but it not changing to blades
if u have a neutral enemy frosted or burned and u siphon it with the spear will the spear get the applied status effect?
No, they were gonna do something like that originally but didn’t want the spear to be too flexible.
Does fighting in Niflheim let you complete labours and skill tiers? Because I've been fighting in Muspelheim, and it can get repetitive.
Sure you can complete some of them in Niflheim
@@ArktixOfficial Awesome. Thanks.
@@ArktixOfficial One more thing; have you been able to figure out what the Rond of Obliteration's special attack does? Because it doesn't do anything special that I can see.
Edit: Never mind. I found out it applies Bifrost to the enemy.
does poison from your attacks stack with poison from freyas relic to make the unit 2 difficulties weaker?
Good question. No, Freya's poison will stack with yours to help build up to the poison state faster, but you can't have a stronger poison state. The poison state always lowers enemy power levels by 1.
@@ArktixOfficial Makes sense, thanks!
Great explanation.
What about the Daze status effect?
This video blew up since I saw it last, let’s goooooo 😎
Haha yeah it did a bit!
Imo, Poison and Bifrost are my favorite’s effects to use against enemies
Muito bom mesmo esse vídeo. Obrigado.
Thank you!
Main takeaways: Hex amplifies everything else and poison is OP.
There's a shield that when Kratos is status afflicted, it will transfer that element to the enemy by performing a shield thrust ( double tapping shield button to attack with shield ) and removes the element from kratos
Actually it's a shield attachment. The Rond of Purification! I discuss it in my mid-game build video 👍
i wish i knew about hex before i started a 2nd ng+ play through the berserker king would have been a bit easier
