  • Hey there, folks! If you've got a MacBook Air M1 2020 A2337 and you're scratching your head because the keyboard and trackpad aren't playing nice, you're in the right place. I've been there too, and in this video, I'm going to show you how I fixed it step by step.
So first things first, I'll explain what the heck is going on with these issues. You know, those frustrating moments when your keyboard feels like it's on vacation and the trackpad just decided to go MIA? Yeah, we've all been there.
Then, I'm going to take you on a journey inside the MacBook Air as we break it down - trust me, it's not as intimidating as it sounds. We'll get a closer look at what's really going on in there.
But here's the aha moment: I found out that the problem isn't always super complicated. In fact, sometimes it's as simple as a missing track on the flex cable that connects everything. And guess what? Replacing that cable can work wonders.
Join me as I show you exactly what I did, and how I brought MacBook Air back to life. No need to be a tech genius for this one - it's all about DIY and saving you some bucks.
So, if your MacBook Air's been acting up, hit play, and let's get this problem solved together. If you find this video helpful, give it a thumbs up, share it with friends, and don't forget to subscribe for more down-to-earth tech tips and repairs.

Bro you saved me hundreds of dollars, I spent $8 on a precision tool kit at Walmart and just followed the steps. My trackpad had sand in it and all it needed was a cleaning. Good as new!

I have been investigating in this issue for hours and hours and hours until I finally figured out it is the flex cable. Used your video to replace it. I could not be more thankful to you!!

I have the same problem but I hesitate to open my Macbook. So I found a workaround by using an external mouse an keyboard.
You are doing great work! 👍

I was quoted £400+ by Apple, watched this video and bought a flex cable for £13 to do it myself. Now it works perfectly again. Thanks !!!!

Thank you! I now feel confident I can open up my mom's 2020 MBA to see if this cable is damaged. The repair person we called refused to do so, suggesting she buy a new machine (?!?!) instead. He didn't get that with her trackpad not working, I can't wipe the machine to recycle it. If I can do this for the cost of a replacement cable ($10), a set of tools ($90), and some of my time (free, bc family), it will save her $1000 at least. It's definitely worth a try. Much appreciated.

why my MacBook keyboard and trackpad not working after I closed and reopen the lid. I need to restart my Mac every time this thing happen . it is because of the flex cable too? or just the software faulty?

Thanks for sharing. Good to know. I haven't repaired any of the non Intel Macs yet but I'm sure I'll see some soon. We used to get similar issues with the SATA ribbon cable in some of the Mac laptops.

honest question: if an external keyboard and mouse connected also doesnt work. it means that is not related with the cable or hardware?

Hi, I have a Late 2013 21.5 inch iMac (14,1) and I will soon open it to replace the HDD with an SSD. And since I'm in there I thought I should upgrade the RAM as well. Do you know if I need some "special" Mac compatible ram or it can be any as long as it's DDR3L 1600Mhz 1.35V 204 Pin CL11?

    • @IFIXIT4U-UK
      @IFIXIT4U-UK  4 місяці тому +1

Personally I have never ever used RAM modules that are suitable just for macs, I believe this is just a marketing thing. I use any RAM module that meets the configuration, mainly Kingston.

@@IFIXIT4U-UK Thanks for the reply! Yeah Kingston is nice but the price for 16GB is half of the entire iMac haha so it's beyond my budget, especially since there's the cost for the SSD as well and those annoying adhesive strips. But good to know standard RAM should work too, this definitely broadens my options!

    Hi.
I have a similar problem with my keyboard.
Multiple symbols are typed at once, for example F4, F6 and F6 are pressed all together when any of them is pressed individually, also happens with RYI, FHK, VN, if you look at these key you can notice the pattern.
Do you think the flex cable replacement could solve this? Thanks in advance.

Hi, very unlikely, seems more that your keyboard failed

  • @Dilligaf_Josh

You can just press the power button and it will turn off, the keys your were pressing have no effect, I just experienced this problem. Sad to see it’s wide spreed now. Although mine works for 4 minutes and then keyboard and mouse freezes, mouse won’t click as well. Screen keeps working and if I have media playing keeps it keeps going normally.

    • @IFIXIT4U-UK

Yes you are right and here is why: There is a simple reason why you can't reset SMC on M1 Macs - there is no system management controller in the M1 Macs. All functions that were previously handled by the chip are now embedded in the M1 processor.

    • @Dilligaf_Josh

@@IFIXIT4U-UK I see, why do you think that flex cable deteriorates even on a basically brand new machine, I don’t see any moving parts that might put stress on it, my wife’s M1 Air has only 15 cycles on battery and this happened gradually and got to a point it happened even if the lid wasn’t closed and put to sleep, thankfully I have Apple Care + and they are looking at it.

i did this with my a2337 and was so happy, because it worked again. now after about 1 week it's the same problem.. so it is stuck after some seconds/minutes (always different) and i cant use the trackpad and keyboard anymore. could it be possible, that the new cable is damaged again.. after just 1 week?

I have exactly the same problem. It works then if I just close the laptop (instead of powering off) the trackpad and keyboard don’t work again. Very confusing and annoying, Macs are too expensive and too expensive to repair to have issues like this
