That river ben jungle may be a part of conservation area of Trat Province. In 1907 when King Rama V visited Trat Province he landed at a pier on other side of the jungle.
Well done seeker for what you found. A few months ago my wife and me passed by Trat after 45 years (1979) . We were on the road to Cambodia. We never it to Cambodia and stayed for 3 weeks in Trat. A transit town to the islands or Cambodia. Free of mass tourism and consumerism. Filled up with culture and hospitality. And a bonus is the most diverse and quality streetfood . For people who want to travel to learn and to exchange culture .... try it out
There is a bus station just north of Trat of you want to go to Koh Chang or the border to Cambodia. In my experience the thai buses and vans stop on the border and you must take a Cambodian motorcycle taxi to get to the bus for Phom Penh. No thorough traffic!
I agree with you about the scam and the motor bikers they are riding like the maineact they'll will go on the side Walk If they don't want to wait for the traffic. I knew this because I am a Thai woman.
@@SeekeroftheWay-qt5kj Well, I never knew that, I stand corrected. Obviously the Thais hate advertising any colonial rule. Agree with the baguettes comment. Actually bought 3 in Koh Chang yesterday and they were soft and limp. The old saying that the British empire left behind good governance, infrastructure & railways but the French Indochina left behind good coffee and baguettes is very true. Always easy to find a nice crispy baguette and a proper cup of coffee rather than 3-in-1 in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam.
not a main town in Thailand but is a changwat the thing about Thailand architecturally is they don't have planning permission ,so do what you want .Pros and cons but no boring estates and every home unique I have lived in Sa Kaeo province for 20 years but not been there ,yet ,it's not that far away you will never get a French influence but then you will never get any other country's influence ,LOS is its own boss ,never had a colonial influence of course every town is the same though ,you cannot differentiate one from the other ,they all look similar ,and the markets too but ,so what chock dee
and trust me on this ,Thailand has the worst drivers ,the craziest ,it does your head in . No logic . Indicate when not needed and NEVER when you don't Exit your local supermarket in a single lane with a one way (to the left) road in front and they all ,every time will indicate ,who the @#%& for . Get behind a car ,slowing down looking for some drop off point and blocking you to overtake ,NOTHING ,never get a hand signal or an indicator light . Best time to visit and I know ,is around now ,the low season . less tourists so cheaper costs ,not boiling hot and some rain ,which is good .Yes ,low season
Sometimes too polite though, like stopping to let someone else enter the roadway oblivious to the fact they cause everyone behind them to get in to a traffic jam. But yeah, it goes both ways. When I get annoyed at reckless driving a few minutes later the feeling is gone when someone else is very polite to me.

Hello, I am going to Trat next week and I would like to ask if there are motorcycle rentals there? Or can I use GRAB there?
I'm not totally sure. I'd be surprised if the were no motorbike rentals, I'm pretty sure I heard there are some. Grab I'm not sure about.

There used to be a small van station in the centre too, but that's gone now.
Mama James Guesthouse 😊
Doesn't look like it's still open 😢
The covid panic restrictions unfortunately did a lot of damage in the region... 🥲
Why is everyone driving on the wrong side of the road ? No police ? 😔

Yes, it's difficult when people ride motorbikes at you on the footpath & dangerous. Nice to hear from you.
French Colonial?? When were the French there exactly?
13 February 1904 to 23 March 1907.
It's just a shame the tradition of baguettes didn't remain! :)

Trat city is the capital of Trat province. I don't know if that qualifies it as being a main city of Thailand, but somehow it's important.
As far as the scam Im had experience with myself at the airport
They don't care who's you are. And beautiful.
What happened to you at the airport?

Thai drivers are generally polite, try Vietnam and you will see craziest.
There are a lot of extremes between totally vacant and overly polite in a way that blocks others. 555

Trat is a province, not town .
It's a province & a town, like many places in Thailand. :)
