    At 10:11 Big Time Flashback- 1965 Mosquito Bar- crew from danish Anna Maersk and swedish Broholm . It’s me in white T-shirt breaking up ice for the cooler also Sven Karlmark and Torbjörn Stålnacke from Broholm .Memories. How did you find this Picture?

    • @BangkokPat
      @BangkokPat  Місяць тому +1

      I was searching and found a link to this page from an old nightlife webpage:
      www.snesejler.dk/bill77.htm
      I hope you don't mind that I used the pic, but I'm really glad somebody has seen the video who has real memories, and was there. Now there's just a couple of old bars surviving as you saw. I looked for clues and filmed whatever I could find, but it's the exploring for old history that I love doing!

      @@BangkokPat No problem with the picture, thanks for the Snesejler link. Good info . I was in and out regular in Bangkok from 1962 to 1968 on Swedish and Norwegian ships also lived in KlongToey 1966 in between ships . Had a house next to the Temple right at the river’s edge , across the street from the Mosquito bar behind what is now the 7-11 and across the railroad tracks. Like I said Memories. Again thanks Pat .

    What a great reminder for me in this video. I first visited Bangkok courtesy of the Royal Australian Navy in 1982. We were berthed at the Bangkok Port berth right in front of the Port Authority building. As such Klong Toey was a first stop beer bar destination with a minibus dropping us at the end of the wharf road and on the corner of Thanon Tarua 3 ( 8:41 ). There were still some bars around the corner then that provided a few heart starters before heading off to the salubrious attractions of Soi Cowboy or Patpong by tuk-tuk (never taxi). I have particular memories of the sights (and smells!) of the Khlong Toey Markets while heading up from that corner looking for a cab ....what an eye opener. Thanks for the reminder of a fun area which introduced me to the world that is Asia....it was an awesome time. Cheers

    This Pat classic has plenty to interest everyone. Pat takes us to parts of the area we would never want to visit. He talks about the old "Semen's Mission" - "still a bit of pussy walking around" - "The prices are quite reasonable and so they should be". Watch and listen carefully. These gems are slipped into every orifice with the relaxed professionalism we expect from an real pro.

    Another great job Pat. High quality and informative. Khlong Toei should be a must visit for tourists that wanna have a sly geezer at some SEA slums. But also, because it's a very interesting place with all manner of friendly inhabitants, good food, cheap beers.

      Thanks Nick, it's bit messy and disorganised for tourists to get a sense of direction but still a must see to get a glimpse into an area still retaining its old school character.

    another great video thank you, change so much since I was last there back in 2007/08. Don't Thailand have a equivalent to the English Heritage grade system to protect old building, it sad to see some of great Architecture of the past been knocked down, understand Bangkok need to move forward, but surly they keep some the old builds and possibly moderns them.

      Old buildings = poverty is an attitude felt amongst many sadly

    This is another all-time gem I have enjoyed every second of on my TV screen and good headphones.
    I the real world one would need a dedicated team to produce content and quality like this.
    So I suspect you keep more than just this one clone to help you with all the post production... 🤨
    Absolutely great video.

    I especially like the old photos and film segments you dig up from who knows where. Got to see the Khlong Toei market, from where our food in the 80s was procured almost daily every morning for six years (lots of flies it seems, but we never got sick). Also the bar area (The Mosquito Bar) was there and talked about, but never had the desire to check it out, though it wasn't too far from where we lived (Sukhumvit, near Tong Lor Road). At least got to look at it and suspect I made the wise choice not to visit. The American PX was also located in the Khlong Toei area in the early 70s. Very interesting, though we can't get over how almost everything is so radically different now. Your quip when the cat jumped through that grate near the Mosquito Bar was priceless!

      Thanks! Even though a couple of bars still remain in that area, there are many cats that outnumber the girls that must be working there so l think it's true, plenty of pussy cats around!
      Khlong Toei market l remember before they built the new roof and market bit was always chaotic but cheapest place if you needed supplies for running a restaurant.
