Do you all remember when you sang this song at the Uptown in N. Pila. and received a standing ovation back in the 60s? Everybody at the Uptown, stood up, raised their hands in the air, and applauded the Magnificent Men. I was there, so I can verify. Magnificent Men were the first white group to perform at the Uptown. They were scared big time. But when the Magnificent Men, posted on stage and sang, it was all over! They had it going on like no other. I was there.

I loved to see the Mag Men at clubs and at the Uptown in Philly 50 years ago. How I wish that I could see them again!

The Magnificent Men were singers in 1968 or so, in Philadelphia. Performed at the Uptown and the entire audience stood up and clapped/acknowleged

WOW!! I remember hearing about these guys. I was a fan back then and still am! With the aging acts on the cards I often support; those shows would be greatly improved if these guys were added. I sure hope I cross their path someday. I hope they are all doing well.

I saw the Mag Men every Saturday or Sunday nights at (The Oaks) White Oaks Park in North York, Pa. for along time. York Suburban H/S was a great place to grow up in the mid 1960's. Even saw them at the Ravens in Harrisburg, too. That was our thing back then, dancing and cruising. Went to Rutters for ice cream after the dances and basketball games. We had several bands at our H/S and danced to lots of MagMan tunes back in the day. Such GREAT memories!!! THANKS for sharing!

Magnificent Men were the BOMB in Philly in the 60's. Loved by both blacks and whites. They were the first ever white band I saw at the Uptown in North Philly. They TORE THE SHOW UP! Unbelieveable. OMG

wow! I've been waiting for 40 years to see them live. I'm from Western Pa and our band was modeled after them even though we only were able to hear "Mag Men Live". Still one of my favorite albums of all time. Thanks for the memories.

I also saw them way back at the Uptown in Philly! They tore up the house! When I saw them at one of their reunions, I wondered where Dave Bupp was. And then Dave Bupp's voice started coming out of that guy on stage, who looked more like a young Tom Selleck than the Dave I remembered! WOW! I'll be seeing some of the original MagMen in York PA on Sat, April 12th, at the CLASS OF 60 SOMETHING show, along with my boys, The Soul Survivors! Thanks DaddyC--I'll see you there too! ~~Mama Soul !

Mae West -You went to the Uptown in North Philly, a place where I was scared to go, and I'm Black cause it was gang territory, but I wasn't dsoscared cause I wanted to see the shows. No way, If you're Caucasion you went to the Uptown unless you were very brave. I've never ever seen a white person in the audience at the Uptown. NEVER.

I was probably the only white blonde there, but was never scared. And the night I went was the night after some student riots! Brave? Nah! Just wanted to see some great music!

@@imbees2 I am white and I and my white fiancee at the time in 1967 went to see the Mag Men at the Uptown and really enjoyed the show. Things were more peaceful in the neighborhood at the time, and there was no trouble then. I would not go back there by myself today even if the theater was operating.

Actually, that's Dave Bupp on most of the lead. Buddy King sings the middle section ("Well, since you went away, the blues walked in & met me", etc.) and he's standing next to Dave (in the blue light).

I have passed your comment onto Dave Bupp, lead singer of The Magnificent Men. I know he will enjoy it. They are all fine and doing well. Thanx so much for tuning in. Come back again!

Thanks for the return of this post... As I remember Mr Welsh (Jump Street) produced this show at the Forum. I was just a DJ at WKBO who really wanted to do this show. We did do a reunion at the BBQ Cottage, reuniting several other popular bands of the day.

The group was petrified that the black audience would not accept them cause they were white. The y were accepted big time. Big time. The mag men are one of the best groups ever.

  • @imbees2

If they hadn't performed at the Uptown, they songs would not have become hits. It was because all the Black people bought their music. A lot of Black people thought they were Black.
