We didn't know too much about this part of Missouri before going but we sure were blown away! Hopefully this helps with your own trip plans to the Ozarks of Missouri! If you haven't yet, make sure to give a like and subscribe at goaw.pl/AwesomeTube.
My grandfather Walter Seldon Carr was the original owner of Carr's Canoe Rental, although the land that it sits on was leased from the parks department. Originally, they sold gas, food, tackle, souvenirs, ice, and ran a small post office for the locals. My grandmother Myrtle Carr ran the post office and many of the duties involved in running the store. My grandfather was more involved in the seasonal canoe rental and guide business. They actually lived in the back of the store when they owed it. My grandparents sold the business in the 1970's and retired down the highway a short distance away. They're both deceased now. Seeing it again really brings back memories of my childhood.
This is truly a full circle moment. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. I didn't know about this history when we went but having been there, I can see the hard work your grandfather put in to build the business. The current owners are doing a pretty good job and the rental process was pretty smooth. The inside of the store seemed to be a bit renovated as well!
Appreciate it!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. As first-time visitors, we were surprised with all that we saw and really loved our time in Missouri even though we only saw a small portion of the state!
As a resident of the Ozarks I’m glad videos like this exit to show off Missouri is way more than just KC and St. Louis. I live about 30 mins from Lampe Missouri where Dogwood canyon is and I love my homestate.
Can you make some recommendations? We live in Greenwood just south of Fort Smith and looking to road trip to Branson tomorrow and make stops along the way. Thank you for your time and have an awesome day.
So kind of you to say so!! We came in with no expectations and having never been to the Ozarks, we just put together that included our interests and made sense as a road trip. We were impressed!!
I just ran across this video as we plan our fall RV trip to the Ozarks. You have excellent content, videography, and presentation. Very impressive. We are going to all these areas and now I know better where to focus our time. Next I have to watch all your Japan content since we are going there in Spring for the Sakura season... New Subscriber!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad this video helped. It sounds like you have quite the epic trip coming up and hope you have an amazing time :)
Thank you for this video! We recently moved to Ozark, Missouri and now we have some great places to discover thanks to your video! BTW: It is an amazing place to live! Shhhhh...don't let anyone know. Ha!
You hit some of my favorite soots and introduced me to one I, a native, didn't know existed!! Well, i hD heard of dogwood canyon, but didn't know it was so developed. I don't walk much anymore and vthose drive through areas would suit me very well!! ❤
Thank you for watching! New to the area, I was very impressed with what we saw. I’m glad that you learned a few things as well. Hope you get to go to Dogwood Canyon soon!
I almost went to Dogwood, but the problem is you have to make advanced reservations and we didn’t know at what time we would be there since we were on an overall road trip. I would’ve loved to. I’ve gone in and just had a quick look around, but it’s not possible.
Yeah, they do get booked out really quickly. Sad that you guys didn't get to go but hopefully in a future trip! We made a note of it in our article: goingawesomeplaces.com/6-day-ozarks-missouri-itinerary-adventure
I'm from Missouri and yes Silver Dollar City has some wonderful food. A few years ago at a truck stop some people from Michigan asked me how much farther to Branson. They had strong northern accents, so out came my hillbilly voice, which ain't much of a stretch. Branson embraces hillbilly culture, I bet when they got there, they said, "oh we already met that guy".
And if you're a mountain biker, Shepherd Mountain Bike Park (5 minutes from Elephant Rocks) is a true, gnarly downhill park with shuttle service. You won't even find trails like it in Arkansas.
Sadly, we didn't encounter elements from the show haha! It's interesting that the show has generated interest in the region but the reality of the Ozarks is quite different and in a good way!!
@@GoingAwesomePlaces It's good to see how it really is. It is really beautiful and would love to visit someday. And yes, the show did raise my interest.

Wow. You did a great job with presenting places to go in Missouri. My daughter may consider a fellowship in Missouri.
Aww thank you!! Yes we really tried to show a unique side to Missouri. As Canadians, we had no idea what to expect but found a lot of great surprises!
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. You're doing great!
@@WTHPOPL aww thank you so much. I hope you found it helpful for your upcoming trip!
@@GoingAwesomePlaces Yes, it has definitely helped give more ideas! 💡

Helen Keller said her wish if she could see would be to see a sunset in Missouri.
Love this video! Thanks for sharing your adventures! :)
Thank you so much for stopping by! Have you been to many of these places??

I grew up in Missouri; I had no idea.
We discovered so many incredible places. Hope you get to go to a few of these when you head back!
Must have had a bad social studies teacher.
The music reminds me of the music that they used to have on the TV show Bay Area back roads. Unfortunately the volume on the music is too loud.
Thanks for the feedback!
It is to loud

Great tip!! Great combination with Elephant Rocks.
Me and my family is planning of going here to start a new life. Also thinking of opening a Casino for the community.
Good luck it's not a good idea to do that your probably gonna get run out of the Ozarks
Everything looks amazing! Very cool and beautiful!
I did expect more crime and money laundering 😉

Man he cut scene so many times made me sick to watch. Good video but dint be scared to let a scene play out without a cut
Thanks for the feedback!
LOTO is the worst thing you could pick to showcase the Ozarks.
way to far east
There’s definitely a lot more of the Ozarks of Missouri to explore!
You’re welcome to try and do better
